Unless they re-recorded the harmonica line, it was Tim doing the harmonica in this - and i don't hear a difference between the Full of Cheer take and this one.
They do use looping (that they record on the spot even in their concerts) for repeating sounds to add layers they otherwise could not maintain with five members.
@@thomaschristensen7451 looping in their concerts is a relatively new (and fascinating) thing, but they have been multi-tracking recordings since the beginning.
@@nancyholter5646 I am pretty sure it’s Adam Rupp that harmonica thing is one of his best tricks. They very often multi track their recordings so you can’t necessarily tell by watching the video.
Yes that “Harmonica “is all Adam’s voice we call it his Nomonica he is that good. They all can beatbox / do sound effects some not to the level of Adam You need to check out there version of Do You Hear What I Hear and they just released on Friday Christmas In LA.
On stage nowadays, Adam uses a looper to be able to do all the sounds in. He really has such an amazing talent for beatboxing. I really enjoy your breakdowns of my favorites!
I enjoy watching people new to Home Free discover their vocal ranges and all they can actually do. You've only just scratched the surface. Enjoy the surprises. In the video Chris gifts ( adam) Chance with his pitch pipe. So sweet to see that. Thanks for the Home Free reactions
Your eyes are very expressive… Can almost see your brain analyzing the song!… Since you’re just starting with home free each member is very talented…they can cover each other’s parts! Every Home Free band member can beatbox if needed! There are 2 bass singers, 2 tenors, 1 beatboxer(Adam Rupp also sings tenor. Tim & chance can also sing tenor(listen to american Pie) They love to surprise their fans by giving them the unexpected!! Nice reaction… Can’t wait for your next home free song!
Love your breakdowns! Would be interested in hearing your reaction to “Do you hear what I hear?” Also, there is a neat collab with Homefree and Chris Rupp…so all 6 members sing “What child is this”. Their newest Christmas video is “Christmas in LA”.
During live performances Adam manages a loupe machine stacking his sounds with other members ad libs. Adam has perfected several horn sounds. This also allows Adam and Austin to stack short harmonica duets as bridge.
I think we all hope you'll make sure to do their Auld Lang Syne around New Year's. It's an exquisite specimen of #homefree mixing organ-like harmony with solos by each of them.
I love this video - as is the instance in many of their videos, this one has their wives/kids/friends (in Austin's case, his former g/f). Of course the singing, harmonies & beatboxing are terrific. It's also one of the few videos in which Chris Rupp & Chance appear together. It's so sweet that Chris gives his pitchpipe to Chance. (When Chris left for a solo career, Chance took his place).
Did you see that Chris gifted Chance (Adam) the tuner that Chris would blow for the first note when they sang on stage and now it’s Chance’s job? Cute!
I noticed it as I was watching but forgot to comment on it! The pitch-pipe is an absolute classic in the acapella world. I'm guessing none of them have perfect pitch then?
My favorite Christmas song of Home Free is "Do You Hear What I Hear" which was arranged by the beatboxer, Adam Rupp. I'd also love to hear your thoughts on Pentatonix's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Little Drummer Boy"!
Welcome to Adam Rupp's legendary 'Nomonica' They openly use a loop station live to enable layering (beatboxer + nomonica) Highly recommend another Christmas 'Do You Hear What I Hear' arranged by Adam Rupp.
That’s Adam doing the harmonica. No instruments. When live Adam has a looping station and makes sounds into it and records it and then it frees him up to do other sounds. Btw, Austin can also do a harmonica and joins Adam when they sing Man of Constant Sorrow on stage. We call the new Adam “Chance” as that’s his middle name and it lessens the confusion. The group calls him Chance too. This is an old video. For Christmas you might like Do You Hear What I Hear (Adam’s arrangement)…it’s fabulous. Also, Mary Did You Know, O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, What Child is This. They’re all great and their harmonies are wonderful. Good reaction SH!😃😍
Tim did the harmonica in the original version they did of White Christmas, with Chris Rupp. Then Adam and Austin learned how, which we see in the live version of Man of Constant Sorrow. This is a remake with Chance and definitely Adam playing the nomonica.
There is diversity in arrangements, genres, videos ... and having attended two live concerts, I believe they are not struggling to impress anyone more than themselves.
This sing has a definite "Happy Trails" vibe, even down to the "clip clops", an old "country/western" song done by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans to close their TV show.
Thanks for the reaction and analysis, I enjoyed it. All of their Christmas music is wonderful. I like O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Silent Night.
What you hear here as a harmonica is definitely Adam Rupp's no-monica. Where you can see and listen to this clearly is in their "Man Of Constant Sorrow". I also love that at Home Free all five members have different, but beautiful voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp. For me the harmonies are some of the best harmonies I have heard. The combination of their voices makes it simply beautiful. Then they also have the very best beatboxer. They not only let you hear, but also feel. Because doesn't this sound great? For me, Home Free doesn't cover, but Upgrade does. By the way, Adam Chance is called Chance.
From the two performances of theirs I've heard so far - the other one being their Sing Off performance of Ring Of Fire - I'm absolutely in love with the Ring Of Fire opening harmonic progression. As you can see in my reaction video to it, I was obliged to transcribe it because it was that good Thanks for the comment ☺
To see the harmonica sounds from Adam are real you need to view Man Of Constant Sorrow. If you are interested in how they sound LIVE, they just released a current live song, Sea Shanty Melody. You will see the sound even better in person than studio songs. Adam Chance is also a bass and handles the low notes while Tim is singing. He also make most of the guitar sound in all the songs they do.
Adam does the nomonica on Man of Constant Sorrow (mentioned multiple times and also includes Chance doing a jaws harp sound), Catch Me if You Can, Workin' For a Living, Folsom Prison Blues, and Ain't Going Down Till the Sun Comes Up (unfortunately only available on their Facebook page due to restrictions from Garth Brooks). While most folks recommend Man of Constant Sorrow for the nomonica, I think Workin' For a Living shows off his ability a whole lot more (and Ain't Going Down is just mind-blowing).
I'm betting a lot of people are going to tell you that there is no harmonica. Adam Rupp is just that talented. And I suspect that Chance is holding the beat while Adam is making the harmonica sounds.
Cool to know Chance can beatbox too! Others have commented saying that Home Free multitrack, so in that regard there's no longer the 5-part limitation I mentioned
For their videos, Home Free often loops in Adam’s beat boxing so he’s free to do all those other creative things he does. There are some live videos where the use a loop station in concert.
If you want to witness the "voice harmonica" up close watch their performance of Man of Constant Sorrow. Not to mention the fact that the vocals are mind blowing.
They can ALL do beatboxing a little and they have to bass if they are needed yes that’s Adam Rupp doing the harmonica sound. Absolutely not a real one when I heard this in man of constant sorrow , I damn ne’er fell out of my chair. lol these men are so multitasking with their voices it’s amazing. 😻. Love my # HOMEFREE.
No harmonica… All vocal!! Listen to ain’t going down till the sun comes up,… Working for a living,Man of constant sorrow for more NO Monica! Listen to Tim’s original “even more cheer!!For Christmas a little more serious listen to Mary did you know; “Angels we have heard on high”; “Do you hear what I hear” Arranged by Adam Rupp”; React to more Xmas “Cold hard cash for Christmas”; “Children go where I send thee”, “What Christmas means to me! Can’t wait for your next Christmas reaction 🎄🎅🏻
I second, third, fourth etc. the other commenters urging you to look at Do You Hear What I Hear by Home Free. Adam Rupp arranged it, and he is also an instrumentalist (trumpet player) so it definitely has more elements of an instrumental arrangement.
They do use some layering in their studio recordings. They mostly change the arrangements a little for live performances OR occasionally they will use a looper station live. But only for minimal things like such as sound effects. Like Chance doing the mouth harp sound so he can sing harmony or so the beatboxing can continue while Adam does something like a harmonica solo (without a harmonica). They also make it very clear to the audience what is being done with the looper so no one is "deceived". A good example of this is in Man of Constant Sorrow". Thanks for doing another Home Free song!
Adam Rupp's "nomonica" is so realistic and clean. So amazing. Absolutely LOVE Tim's low notes and his runs. This is such a great song and they did an awesome job arranging it.
Adam does the no monica extremely well and does it in the live shows and always impresses.Adam would practice a sound for hours everyday till it sounded right. Another great homefree song.🎵 #homefree
There’s two videos in their library that you would enjoy….and i really don’t know what they’re named….but one of Adam Rupp ‘briefly’ shared his ‘beat lab’ in his home office with protools, etc…..and …. There’s another live performance of Dolly Parton’s “Working 9 to 5” where all members of Home Free have a beat box breakdown….and Adam is demonstrating a loop machine. I think they do layer tracks for the studio versions as necessary….but plan for performable versions for when they’re touring. Their talent seems limitless and their antics add to the pleasure they provide to their fans. Your analysis is spot on and it’s nice to hear musical terms seamlessly explained during the course of your reactions.
No harmonica, that is Adam Rupp's no-monica....his prettiest work doing it I believe is in an original of theirs, "So Long Dixie" a very poignant and beautiful song and some of their best harmonies...it's "brilliant" as might be said in the UK
Hey there, Glad you are enjoying our guys And I am enjoying your breakdowns. Definitely would highly suggest for you, their covers of Helplessly Hoping Angels We Have Heard On High Do You Hear What I Hear? You take music seriously! I like a new reactor that can hear what we don’t hear. And I’m guessing that you have perfect pitch! This is a good analysis of the song in how you explained the different harmonies. Yes, this is a country version. You will hear that in many songs they do since Home Free considers themselves to be an all vocal country band, but they are not limited to this genre. Thank you so much for choosing White Christmas. It was a joy to hear.
They do layer tracks and add their extra sounds on top of the singing tracks. All sounds are made by the human voice. If there is an instrument used it be be in plain sight. Sometimes they collaborate with other artists that play instruments.
Just discovered your channel with this video. I like that your analyze the song, but don’t overdo it. I always appreciate musicians’s/professional’s opinions being that they know music well. These guys are the real deal! There is no bad song/video! Hope you continue down the Home Free rabbit hole on UA-cam!
Thanks! Haha yeah, when there are wonderful groups and arrangements such as Home Free, it's difficult for me not to get a bit over-excited and say everything I'm hearing (I cut out a fair bit from these vids too 😅). I try to tone down the analysis but what I leave in these videos is everything I think is necessary to point out - sorry if it's a bit much! I do put 'analysis' in the video titles so people are aware there will be analysis happening 🎵 Which I hope would be helpful if someone is after reactions where the reactor doesn't comment much
@@SirHairless I wasn’t bothered by your analysis. Some do leave too much in for my taste, though. Yours was just enough, but wouldn’t mind a tad more if the song, performance called for it. ☺️
OK, yes - beatboxing and other things you'll hear because these are "Studio"... Not to be confused in any way that they don't do the "sounds"!!! : ) You've jumped into a rabbit hole from where there's no return my friend!!! And it's so so good! Had to search for this one too ... only after you mentioned it in the latest (O Holy Night). I searched "Home Free" (your channel) and it gave me OHN and ROF... didn't give me this one! Just an FYI. Do appreciate yer take on this - for sure!!! I've been on the HF bandwagon for 8+yrs now, still amazed!!!
Thanks for a Great reaction and analysis. I know you have a lot of recommendations for Do You Hear What I Hear and Oh Holy Night that is because they are outstanding so for what its worth i also recommend them. You will find as you react to Home Free more you will see they like to add humor to a lot of their videos but they never compromise their awesome vocals.
Adam the beat boxer does not have a harmonica. Us Home Fries call it no monica. These guys are extremely talented. Keep reacting to them! Love your reaction!
Even if you don't react to it, you should check out a live version of Home Free's Man of Constant Sorrow at some point. Adam does the harmonica part live and it's crazy how much he sounds like a harmonica even without any post-production magic lol
You can’t go wrong with Home Free they can sing anything. The harmonica is not real. It is Adam. Check out Snow Globe and all their songs, so many surprises 😊
Just a note - Adam Chance ( called CHANCE for averting confusing the two Adams) IS Actually a three register voice as is Tim Foust .... though his coverage is mainly Baritone UNLESS Tim sings lead .... GBjj
Tim Foust is a fabulous bass and Home Free is wonderful. But there's another aca group who are also incredible, and they too have a stupendous bass: Geoff Castellucci. The group is VoicePlay and they're called the theater geeks of acapella. They are super creative and talented. You should check them out!
The wah sound is made by Austin. Its a beautiful sound .He only started using the wah sounds (thats what i call it anyway in more songs.I love his high long notes also. You ha e a great ear for music hairless😊
Just a little titbit of interest is Austin singing a "strange but lovely sound in the beginning of the Collaboration homefree does with Kenny Rogers RIP 🙏 called children go where I send thee.
New Adam is usually referred to as Chance, his last name, just so we don't get them mixed up and expect Adam Rupp to drop into a base line nor Adam Chance to suddenly sound like a truck backing into trash cans.
The studio recording is lip synced on scene (LOCATION) ... and therein The beat boxing is done ... and the separate track for Harmonica replication is also Adam Rupp ..... a vocal freak by any standard ! GBjj
That western feel to such a classic carol was a little off-putting to me at first, but by the time the song was over I didn't want it to end! Now Home Free's music is the gift I give myself--all year long❣️🎼🥰🎶♥️ #HomeFree #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest
Everyone thinks it is Adam doing the harmonica - and that is what is shown in the video, but unless they re-recorded the track for the new album, according to the video discussion of the Full of Cheer album (Part 1, 1:30), it was Tim doing the harmonica on this one, and I don't hear any difference in the harmonica between the Full of Cheer version and this one. And regardless if it is Adam or Tim - Darren still needed to layer either the harmonica or the beat/bass in.
@@SirHairless My guess is that since Adam does do the harmonica on virtually everything, they felt it might confuse (or upset) people to see Tim, but that is just conjecture on my part. And it is possible that they re-recorded it when they recorded Chance's part, but if they did , it was very well matched.
NOPE ! You're incorrect - though understandably so ! The SOUND YOU PERCEIVE AS AN INSTRUMENT - is indeed that of THE VOCAL CHORDS OF ONE Adam Rupp .... a noise machine without equal. OF COURSE HIS PERCUSSION is tracked before or after he laid the Harmonica Track in the Studio - where all these vocal parts are recorded - lip sync for Video sake. GBjj

You must listen to their cover of "Do You Hear What I Hear". It's one of their best, or of all of them. It was arranged by their beatboxer Adam.

Bella armonías ,pero la voz más baja enamora ❤❤❤❤
Adam does a nomonica. He is making the harmonic sound.
Thank you so much!
They do layer tracks and add their extra sounds on top of the singing tracks. All sounds are made by the human voice. If there is an instrument used it be be in plain sight. Sometimes they collaborate with other artists that play instruments.
When he does the harmonica sound on stage he uses a looper for the drum section. On albums he is double tracked.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for learning their names. Many new reactors rarely do. Great analysis. Would love to see more.
It's the little things eh! Thank you for watching 🙌
@@SirHairless You also gave a great breakdown of the song. It's very informative.
I appreciate it! Hopefully many more to come, stay tuned @@peggygross7409 😀
Yes they do use a loop sometime
They layer voices for their official videos. They do live versions of their songs where of course they don’t layer
👍
Really enjoyed your analysis. Hope to hear more from you about these talented guys. I see that others have clarified the Adam harmonica situation.
Thank you! Stay tuned for more Home Free 🎶 And yes, very cool to learn about the "no-monica"!
They do use a looper, so that they can record some background voices
They use a looper when doing these songs live so they can do layers
The harmonica is all Adam Rupp ... They do use looping sometimes but it is still him, no instruments.
Very cool to know, thanks
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Home Free can sing any genre. Subbed for more Home Free. #HomeFree #HomeFries
Thanks!
Chris got a Key Tone for His Replacement - Adam Chance .... funny and useful gift. GBjj
Adam the beat boxer does not have a harmonica. Us Home Fries call it no monica. These guys are extremely talented. Keep reacting to them! Love your reaction!
I like this no-monica 😅Thank you!
They do use loopers in live shows but yes, there is NOT a harmonica.
Yes they layer on their video version of a song. Then they adapt the song to live performance conditions
Cool, thanks 👍
Even if you don't react to it, you should check out a live version of Home Free's Man of Constant Sorrow at some point. Adam does the harmonica part live and it's crazy how much he sounds like a harmonica even without any post-production magic lol
It’s on my list for future reactions! One of the more commonly recommended ones 😀
❣❣❣❣❣
Nope it’s all Adam and yes he is that incredible!
NEW SUB HERE FOR ALL THE HOME FREE CHRISTMAS MUSIC!! 👏👏👏 CHEERS!!
🙌
Adams Nomonica!
You can’t go wrong with Home Free they can sing anything. The harmonica is not real. It is Adam. Check out Snow Globe and all their songs, so many surprises 😊
Thanks, I look forward to it!
Check out harmonica on "Man of Constant Sorrows"!
They do tend to use the same people to arrange their songs.
Thanks! Yes I've been recommended them a number of times - I'll get round to them in the new year at some point, I'm sure
Subbed for more Home Free
Thanks! 🙌
Please do Do You Hear What I Hear
Hey! This is on my list and is currently scheduled for later this month - so expect it then (assuming no copyright/scheduling problems etc)!
The wah sound is made by Austin. Its a beautiful sound .He only started using the wah sounds (thats what i call it anyway in more songs.I love his high long notes also. You ha e a great ear for music hairless😊
I'll be listening out for the 'wah' sounds in my future reactions 🎶 Thanks!
Just a little titbit of interest is Austin singing a "strange but lovely sound in the beginning of the Collaboration homefree does with Kenny Rogers RIP 🙏 called children go where I send thee.
If you watch and from seeing them live, all the guys can hold the beat for short time. Adam does not use a real harmonica it is his voice.
All of the.mbers of Home Free cam beat box.
Very cool!
Tim Foust did the harmonica at the beginning after that it was Adam
Thanks for the info!
I suggest you REVIEW their Folsom Prison Blues & other covers displaying Adam Rupp on HIS Harmonica replication. jj
New Adam is usually referred to as Chance, his last name, just so we don't get them mixed up and expect Adam Rupp to drop into a base line nor Adam Chance to suddenly sound like a truck backing into trash cans.
React to “Man of Constant Sorrows” to hear a larger range of Adam’s “instrumentals”!
There is no harmonica-Adam Rupp is amazing!
Now Home Free's music is the gift I give myself--all year long❣️🎼🥰🎶♥️
#HomeFree #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest
Adam = harmonica
Welcome to the rabbit hole.....😅
🐰🕳
Check out Adam Rupps drum solo with no drums
I've seen this - others have sent me the link! Very cool
Interesting choice to show Adam doing it in the video if it isn't him! Wonder why they opted for that
@@SirHairless My guess is that since Adam does do the harmonica on virtually everything, they felt it might confuse (or upset) people to see Tim, but that is just conjecture on my part. And it is possible that they re-recorded it when they recorded Chance's part, but if they did , it was very well matched.
No instruments, all them
GBjj
I know, how cool! As I mentioned in the video I would be...I'm very surprised! Can't wait to hear this put to use in other performances by HF
