If you make a Part 2, I'd LOVE to see a middle stage evolution for Noibat and Noivern! I've always felt like there should be a bridge between this line, since Noibat evolves pretty late. Great work as always, Ron! ❤️
Purugly can use a middle stage. Glameow to Purugly is a big change in concept so it can benefit from a middle stage. Plus that would mean Purugly would get a boost in stats which is needs cuz as of now it only has speed and nothing else
That's an intriguing idea! It's so true, there's a huge inexplicable visual disparity between Glameow and Purugly that needs fleshing out; what happened in between??
It’s cool to imagine “optional” middle forms… maybe they could happen when they reach the level or are given the evolution item before a certain stat is high enough, and then they evolve the rest of the way once their stats hit the target?
I think it would be cool to make this mechanic a thing. The incentive could be that you can teach the Pokemon some secret moves only available if you do this extra step.
Love this concept, it really enriches the lore of the evolution lines. I couldn't help but feel Buneary's gorgeous mid-stage could have a more thematically fitting and feminine sounding name. Considering the Japanese names for Buneary and Lopunny are Mimirol (Ear rolled) and Mimilop (Ear rabbit) I would suggest: Fluffeary, or Mimifuwa (Ear fluffy.)
I love the idea that a pokemon mid evolution is because the younger stage wasn't ready. I'm honestly hoping pokemon does something like this where if a pokemon doesn't learn certain move before a certain level, then they become the mid evolution until they learn the move, or they just learn the move before the level and skip straight to the final evolution. It adds so much flavour.
it'd be a sick series to make two random pokemon look like they come from the same evolution line! like drawing a made-up middle evolution between bulbasaur and charizard to force them into the same family 🥰 could make for some funny mashups!
the dex entry lore you wrote for these really give em some credibility as a possible mechanic, and the especially wonderful designs just top it all off - i'm officially an enjoyer of the concept, to which i was previously indifferent
I've always believed that designing evolutions is one of the best ways to start with fakemon design, but I hadn't thought to try adding a middle-stage. I'll definitely have to try this!
I don't remember if you've done this challenge already but I’d love to see a video where you redesign where they have their primary and secondary typings swapped
I loveeee these designs, and I also do just love the pokemon archetype of having drastic evolutions!!! you can like both :D and i don’t think you always neeeeed to be hand holded through transitions and evolutions yknow, in fact, pokemon may evolution drastically more often than they don’t! pretty cool personally
I love that series of the "in progress " evolution art and am so glad you got around to doing this and ngl hope this one becomes another series, because you're such a talented artist and I feel so inprised by you ❤ Anyways keep up the good work
The sidekick finizen transformation actually seems like it would be a really interesting mechanic to implement. A rare finizen could have the sidekick ability, leading to interesting hunts. It could also be an interesting eviolite user!
Thing is it kinda undermines the purpose of Finizen's existence. Finizen's name already says it all, "citizen". That is also why Palafin base form looks so similar to Finizen, because when not in their superhero persona they blend in the with the "normal citizen". The reason Finizen exists, is so that we have an idea of what a "normal citizen" looks like. They are supposed to be relatively unremarkable.
@ mm yeah good point! I wasn’t thinking from a lore perspective, and I agree w you looking at it this way! I still think it would be an interesting mechanic, maybe applied to a new/different pokemon in a lore appropriate fashion.
@ mhm, that’s what I meant by “a rare finizen,” mostly. It’d be similar to finding the poltchageist/sinistcha’s artisan form, but instead of the little inscription it’d be the sidekick ability w finizen.
While these make sense as transitions between evolutions, I think what is missed by just making a "middle ground" is that a lot of mid-stage *evolutions* nowadays have their own unique themeing. For some examples of middle stages who do not look like a 50/50 mash-up of their pre-evo and final evo, there's pokèmon like Quiladin, Vibrava, and Drizzile. So in a theoretical continuation of this, it'd be cool to see some middle stages like that.
(That said, a lot of middle stages ARE more or less just a 50/50 split, so don't take this to be harsh criticism. I also know the whole point in this video was to create pokémon that smooth the transition between two forms, so it would be counter-productive to make a design that looks drastically different such as shellgon or a bug type pokémon's cocoon stage.)
lot of these give more of a feeling "if the final stages were babyfied" or something. esp the ones that have from cute to cool evolution lines. still super cute!
I love how these look, but I noticed a whole lot of them don't really look like a "in-between" of the two pokemon, but more like you reimagined what the final evolution's pre-evolved form would look like
A middle stage between Anorith and Armaldo sounds like it could have potential, as it's a little guy becoming a mountain. So if you ever think of doing this again, you could give them a shot. Great art as always.
For one of these videos I would love to see you make pokemon based on some more obscure specific trees and their unique properties, I the grass type is easily one of my favorite types but like their are tons of planty ones very few are pretty predominantly tree themed and of those most are oak or similar. I think it would be super fun to see something like a mangrove pokemon that has maybe some unique features based on how they are able to live in salt water and coat themselves in salt for protection or the unique way their propigules work. Other cool tree ideas could be an ebony tree pokemon maybe with a symbiotic Durant relationship or a maple tree and maple syrup pokemon.
OMG YES YES YES YES I've become OBSESSED with Beastieball and I strongly recommend it! People should try out the Demo but it's much more complex than that. It's literally taking Pokemon Doubles and turning it into it's own thing through Volleyball. I love the lore and exploring and creating teams and having my Beasties teach each other new moves and train specific stats (which you can pay to revise a bit if you need to, similar to EVs.) The Beasties INTERACT at times and it's so satisfying when you get a relationship between two of them. And the game encourages you to spend more time with the other coaches and your childhood friend with substantial rewards for doing so. The only downside is that I keep wanting to binge-play for hours. I love how they still gain experience from losing too, which is more realistic. I can't wait for them to finish all of the art and animations for every Beastie ahhhhhhhh but the game is entirely playable with few bugs so far. Thank you for promoting the game/getting that Platinum Sponsorship lol. Edit: Ahhhh hard choosing a favorite middle evolution you made. Excellent job overall. Some would be really welcome in the actual Pokemon games. Psychic birb especially. I enjoy the little lore tidbits too especially with the teen Urban Legend stuff for teen foxy.
They look great. Rabound looks so cute. I don't know if half of the Pokémon are fake since I've never seen them before. But I haven't watched Pokémon in a long time, so I might look them up.
I extremely like the Princesp idea. I originally thought that the Flittle line was going to fill the “three stage feminine Psychic type line” criteria back when I first played the game blind.
I hope you make another one of these. Especially if there was a transition between Eevee and some of it's evolutions like one between Lefeon and Glaceon. Your videos are fun to watch!
Damn we got Deku the Dolphin before GTA VI. I think had Rabound been introduced in Gen Four it's evolution would happen at half of the required friendship for Lopunny, and the pose reflects that growth, the pose asks 'Hey, you coming with me?' showing that they have a greater trust in their trainer before evolving into the final stage in which there is full trust between the two.
Fantastic designs especially middle Zoroark! I don't know how to explain this idea but have you ever thought of evolutions similar to shedinja where it's like a spin off evolution if that makes sense?
Reminds me of those old posts I would see on Instagram about progress evolutions, either way I'm interested in all the different ways you can go about evolving a pokèmon
It would be interesting to see a 'sidekick' form of Finizen because we got the reference of Superman for Palafin so, we might as well do a Batman & Robin with Finizen.
Fantastic work as always, Ron. Did you redraw the existing Pokémon too? I was wondering, because your new forms artwork matches them exactly. I hope this gets to become a series.
This isn't really a criticism but I thought I might mention it? With the middle stages for Zorua and Buneary, I noticed that when you used them in the thumbnails and lined them up with the other pokemon in their evo line, their eyes actually look like they're too big. Almost like they get bigger proportionally before shrinking dramatically when they evolve. Normally I don't think it's much of an issue?? But since you're directly putting them between the first and third stages, I thought I should say sssomething? I hope this doesn't come off as super negative, I actually really loved the video. They look great on their own, too! All of them do! You proportionally comparing them in the thumbnail is the only reason I realized anything felt off tbh. I have rambled for too long 💀 Wishing you the best!! Congrats on one million subscribers!! It was about time! 🎉 You more than deserve it

I think these are dope, the only thing id change is making the Samurott middle stage's pupils smaller. The black looks like it has a ring around his eye vs. being his actual eye.
This episode has inspired me to ask: What would a pokemon look like in the later stages of its lifecycle? Though themes of death have been touched on in the games, I believe we trainers tend to look at Pokémon as somewhat eternal creatures, however; if Pokémon had a matured, or elderly stage, how would they appear? What features would begin to show more prominently, or recede, as they age and prepare to sunset? Such an upload could be a rather emotional exploration, but a potentially fascinating premise nonetheless.
Imagine a new Pikachu regional form that uses its strength in its legs and tail to fly (like captain Pikachu), giving them a new typing, it could have a new raichu form and since Pikachu is so loved, it could start a new gen of regional evolutions in pokemon, by allowing previous evolutions like pichu be gone, cuz I hate pichu and would rather raichu evolves more
Honestly one that really 'pisses' me off is Crabrawler and Crabominable. Not really like MAD MAD but how is this tiny barely ankle height and width crab BECOME A MASSIVE yeti that towers over me and wider many times over
I love Rabound, if she was part of the pokemon buneary evolution, I would gladly put her in my custom pokemon doll project. I also love Zoruaru, I would gladly add that to my project as well.
That Buneary and Lopunny middle-Evolution is feeling VERY MUCH like the missing link and just so natrual that it feels so weird now to not have Rabound as a real Pokémon.
The problem with making a middle evolution for Flittle and Espathra is the fact that it's flipped upside down. Flittle is yellow on top and orange underneath with a triangle pointing down. Espathra is yellow on the bottom and orange on top with triangles pointing up. Also, Espathra isn't a bird, it just resembles one.
@@cTc10691 Flittle doesn't resemble a bird in any way. It's a fairy type but not a flying type. It has a snout, not a beak. It has a non-birdlike mouth. And then there's my previous point about the upside down aesthetic in it's design.
If you make a Part 2, I'd LOVE to see a middle stage evolution for Noibat and Noivern! I've always felt like there should be a bridge between this line, since Noibat evolves pretty late.
Great work as always, Ron! ❤️
They did Noibat so dirty. The poor thing has the same base stat total as Zubat until it evolves at the same level as Gabite.
As someone who’s first Pokémon was noibat, I second this.

Purugly can use a middle stage. Glameow to Purugly is a big change in concept so it can benefit from a middle stage. Plus that would mean Purugly would get a boost in stats which is needs cuz as of now it only has speed and nothing else

awww those would be cute.
Doing an in between of Feebas and Milotic's colors actually led to a really pleasant palette to look at.
It really did! I enjoyed that one a lot more than I expected.
Yeah, almost like a zombie fish. I like those muted colors with the decorative pattern starting to show through

Sinceriously
What do you mean it's not a bird, it just resembles one? Where does that information come from?
@@cTc10691 Flittle doesn't resemble a bird in any way. It's a fairy type but not a flying type. It has a snout, not a beak. It has a non-birdlike mouth. And then there's my previous point about the upside down aesthetic in it's design.
In between Trapinch and Vibrava would be interesting
