Yeah, it feels like a completely different Pokemon. Considering that it learns a number of horn moves, this kind of completely breaks Heracross to remove the horn. Sorry Ron, this is an interesting idea, but it just doesn't work for Heracross without making a completely different Pokemon for the concept.
I personally would have made female Diggerby a bit fatter or at least stayed the same as the male, because female rabbits have a dewlap, which is a chunk of fat by their neck they use to get fur, so it would make more sense for the female to have a bit more size to it, or at least the same as the male. And also, some of the choices you made to gender differences here are ones that don’t make much sense for an animal, like a doe doesn’t have a more feminine snout than a buck and hens don’t have smaller beaks then roosters. Otherwise great video and I like a lot of the designs, but I feel a lot of changes you made are more based on what we as humans see as feminine vs masculine rather than the evolutionary reasons why some animals have sexual dimorphism. And just so you know, this is more a critique than hating, again I like a lot of these designs, Lanturn and orangaru being favorites for sure!! Just some opinions I have as an artist, science nerd, and Pokémon fan!!
Yeah, the bigger chest on the female inteleon made me think, for a video that’s so interested in scientific animal sexual dimorphism, you sure did imply boobs on that lizard
One difference I'd make to Male/Female Machamp is have the female Machamp have bigger head spike things, and have in its dex entry say that the leader of a Machamp Tribe is always the female with the largest crest. I think it would be cool!
I feel personally about removing female Alakazam’s whiskers/mustache because in my younger days I roleplayed a trainer with a female Alakazam who was very proud of her long whiskers. Fun vid overall. I personally prefer the gender differences to be kept minimal, more like a neat detail than something justified by logic or biological examples in real life all the time.
Deers have antlers, not horns. Horns are a fixed bone surrounded by the same cells as like your fingernail. Antlers are bone that can be shed and regrown, often times growing back bigger (or with more points) than the prior year.
something i always wished was for male combee to have an evolution where he becomes like a knight or something, and they could even have some fun with the way to evolve it like, K.o. two pokemon in a double battle with vespiqueen being on the field. like it would be so cool and match the royal theme
The thing is, if they were going to have a Combee evolution based on a knight, it’d be biologically accurate to have it be female only as well. This is because female bees, or worker bees, take up all of the roles that keep the hive running. Meanwhile, male bees, or drones, are only useful for mating with the queen and ensuring that there’s a steady supply of future worker bees. Outside of that, drones do nothing other than sit around and eat all day. That being said, an idea for an evolution for male Combee that I think would be interesting, as well as accurate to bee biology, is a Bug/Ghost type evolution based on wraiths, as well as the role of “dark lords” that you’ll often see in fantasy, and maybe possibly even pull a bit of loose inspiration from the Asian Giant Hornet, that’s triggered after a male Combee takes so much damage from Ice Type moves (I’d say take chip damage from hail, but considering Gen 9 reworked it into snow, that wouldn’t work anymore) without fainting ala Basculegion. This is based on how, in the time leading up to winter, the worker bees will kick all of the male drones out of the hive in order to ensure that the rest of the hive will have enough honey in order to survive the cruel winter months, thus resulting in the drones slowly freezing to death. I imagine the explanation for this would be that, while most male Combee perish in the cold after being kicked out of their hive, a select few individuals that have the strongest of wills to keep on going, no matter what, will evolve into this hypothetical wraith bee-hornet (HWBH for short). After evolving, they’re filled with a burning desire for revenge against their former hive mates and will try to steal the honey that the female Combee make (thus the Asian Giant Hornet inspiration, as AGHs are infamous for attacking bee colonies, where they’ll kill bees via decapitation, eat their honey, and steal larvas and thoraxes of decapitated adults to feed to their own young), as well as try to take out the Vespiquen leading it. I’d imagine that this HWBH would have a new ability that acts like Levitate, but for Ice Type moves instead of Ground Type, as well as gets access to a fair few Ice Type moves itself. Embracing what caused it to perish to make it stronger, if you will. Maybe it could even have a new Ice Type move that acts like Freeze Dry that targets Bug Types instead of Water Types. Of course, one could argue that this wouldn’t make sense since most Combee are male, but I propose an easy solution to that issue. Have it stated in a Pokédex entry for Combee that researchers have recently discovered that there’s actually many more female Combee than males in the wild, however, females tend to stick in small groups to watch each other’s back to avoid predators, as well as humans. Males, meanwhile, don’t get anyone to look out for them due to being considered less important in the hive hierarchy, and are often forced to fend for themselves, especially in the months before winter. Not only would this explain the existence of HWBH, but also give an in-universe explanation for why there’s so many gosh dang male Combee in the wild in-game. Plus, it lets people choose whether they want an easy mon to find, but tough to evolve, or a tough mon to find, but easy to evolve.
Have Male Combee evolve into a Carpenter Bee. Carpenter bees are basically harmless to people, but they're large, and the males tend to fly aggressively.
@@ReedzTheSilly Oh damn, that’d be dark but also really cool (no pun intended)! Especially since it’s almost like their trying to make a mockery of Vespiquen’s order moves (namely Attack Order in this case), which would fit so well with it being a vengeful wraith :0
Grill dad Combee that grills berries and glazes them with honey to avoid being kicked out of the hive. I don't care if it goes against the nature of bees, we have sand hippos and flowers that imitate bugs
I gotta say the Squawkabilly and Conkeldurr female gender difference looks very good! I’d actually like these Pokemon more of that was how they were in-game!
I'll be upfront with my critiques, but to give myself context I struggle a lot defining masculine vs feminine traits, and resonate with the idea that they're very arbitrary and loosely defined as an idea. Take that in mind with the thoughts I'd like to share. I think overall your ideas came out well and I personally want to bring up my own thoughts is all, as subjective as they are. I'd honestly love to see what you do in the future with this concept and see how you change as time goes on! As proof of concept, there's a lot here that is rather well in theory, but there are some that either really work in practice, or fumble on the execution of the idea and why the original differs from nature. Take Heracross versus Ariados. Heracross loses a key feature of its design philosophy, but Ariados adds to their own. If I had one complaint that I did wish to address, and I could entirely be missing the point of this video and I apologize if I am, the beliefs you express versus the designs on display don't always align themselves as fully as I think they should. What do I mean by this? Using your Milotic example at 4:54 of "Femininity isn't exclusive towards women" there are a few of your designs that really don't push that point further or rely too hard on the tropes of masculine vs feminine rather than properly explore that to a greater effect. A lot of your female Pokemon for example tend to subtly have too many smaller features, such as height and proportion and doesn't really come across as applying that logic to its fullest or challenges that belief (Excluding ones like Dewgong, Cyclizar, and Ursaring to name a few that have more poignant choices). There are some that work, very well such as Ursaring, and others like Alakazam where it feels unnecessary. Really out of all the designs you've done, I think a majority have merit. Cyclizar, Conkeldurr, Stantler, etc. most of the designs have a lot of redeeming and sometimes endearing qualities. I do however think you went a bit heavy handed on one of them. Your Delphox. It might just be me, but Delphox doesn't read as masculine or feminine in my opinion. They're an archetypical mage. Yes, they are based on Witches which are more commonly a title given to women in modern culture, but their origins were gender neutral (Wicca or Wicce). I think leaning really hard on the wizardry themes both changes way too much, and also showcases the antithesis of the more healthy gender differences you've done previously. A small bit of beard alone would've been fine, or messing with how the fur to lean harder into looking akin to a robe would be substantial enough (Though that's more a gut reaction of an idea rather than a suggestion, it'd be something worth workshopping further). Regardless, whether you take anything from this or not is fine, I'm just happy to share my thoughts and hope you enjoy reading this if you are, there's no animosity from me just my general subjective thoughts. Keep up the good work you do! 👍
@user-py8oj5yv4m Perfectly valid. I know I might be in a bit of a minority here thinking Delphox looks more gender neutral. I generally don't mind if a Pokemon has a gender difference or not but are a neat concept to consider overall imo
When I first watched this video this was exactly what I was thinking. I love pokemon like roserade, gardevoir, and lopunny specifically because the males and females are equally feminine. Personally as a very feminine guy, I wish there were more feminine male pokemon, I just think it's more interesting than constantly sticking to old views of gender. Sorry for leaving such a long comment on such an old video. But I really think your comment should have more likes.
i think sawsbuck should have it so female sawsbuck have the antlers in spring and summer and males have them in autumn and winter, kinda like how it is in real life
....Also it's kinda inappropriate that female Machamp runs around topless considering it's rather humanoid looking🤣.(Cues old trashy girls gone wild video commercials)😂
I very happy that you made the default design the females in many cases where the default isn't super femenine (like Dewgong and Sirfetch'd), instead if just assuming default is male as almost everyone always
Because Tsareena is based on the Mangosteen, also known as the Queen of Fruits I think the male counterpart should be based on the Jackfruit, also known as the King of Fruits.
I won't go into all of your designs (that would take forever) but I would argue that the biggest things that don't work in execution are the difference in overall size and the removal of parts (like the female heracross' horn). The games have been dabbling with adding size differences of individual Pokémon lately (Pokémon go being the biggest example), and the removal of body parts like horns would mean that they can't learn attack that involve those parts. I do think however that this is a good video, as you tend to think up of some interesting ideas. So I think this is at the very least a good taking point and thought exercise
But gender based moveset differences as well as even gender based stat distributions already exist! Check out Indeedee Male and Female! They are as different from each other as Nidoking and Nidoqueen. But still count as the same species!
@@Robin93k Pokémon like Indeedee have very different designs, while still similar enough to be conserved the same species (Kind of like how some Pokémon have different forms). As for the different moves, my point was that some of these gender differences would have one gender have less moves than the other
@@ryanolphie2166 Indeedee Male literally already has less moves than Indeedee Female... That's the point! They're classified as one species, but have different stats, level up move sets, tm learn sets and even different egg moves! They're literally as different from each other visually and game play wise as Nidoking and Nidoqueen. Actually Nidoking and Nidoqueen are partially more similar, but also with the difference that Nidoking naturally learns Megahorn, while Nidoqueen gets Superpower. With these already existing Gender differences, there is no reason why the same Logic couldn't be applied on Heracross. Just remove Megahorn from the female's moveset, or replace it with another move that the male won't get. Besides... Gastly can learn the Elemental Punches. Primeape and Alakazam can learn Iron Tail. Beheeyem can learn Steel Wing. Gamefreak doesn't even cares that much about moves making sense anatomically...
Love the vid. Personally I believe sawsbuck fits into the other category with a split evo counterpart based on gender. Because the entire idea of being a buck means it’s a male so having a female evo means it’s a doe.
An interesting idea for a video inspired by what you did to lanturn would be to make Neotenic pokemon pokemon that retain features from its first evolution as an example quagsire with gills and no arms
I'd like to see some Dragon-types with gender differences like this. Especially Salamence. I have a female Salamence in every game Bagon is catchable in. It'd be cool to see how it could have been designed slightly differently to make the females more unique.
I was worried youd go overboard with this like so many designs Ive seen in the past, but these are pretty neat! Not at all like the "charizard in a dress" type of thing Ive had to scroll past while trying to find references for differences that actually appear in the games
I enjoy the colour variations and slight changes to a design, as like you said it makes the Pokémon feel more special. I really like the Lantern variation and the others that messed around with the body shape a bit more like Dewgong. The Sawsbuck design I feel was a big miss making them bright pink, as it just made it quite ugly and too overpowering. I feel you should of replicated the seasonal foliage on their front hair tuff instead, like winter Sawsbuck and have types of bushes for the seasons. Its a lot less subtle and achieves the same vibes as the male counter part. Also, the designs like Machamp just don't sit right with me and feel you've done the same thing you said others did, which was to give them an hourglass figure. Reducing the muscle mass has possibly done that. The pokemon is already too humaniod and so I feel something like smaller head crests and beaks for males as they are more prone to fighting or showing off and ware them down compared to the females, as to add more of the animalistic features into the creature design.
Yeah, I feel like GF's female Heracross still wins out on this one; it still needs to be able to use Megahorn, after all, and those antennae aren't gonna cut it as substitutes. I'd like to see dimorphism for Greedent. The base form kinda reminds me of a male dwarf with that dark bushy beard pattern. Also, Bellossom leans pretty far into the hula girl look-a male form would be interesting to see for that one.
I don't think that any Pokémon would benefit from small differences like your Oranguru. There is a reason why gamefreak left these small ones behind. They are not noticed by many players because they are not visible on first glance and just mean more work in upcomming generations. But I do love and wish for more of the big changes. Your Ariados, Lanturn or Sirfetch'd are the ones we need. They make people think twice about these Pokémon. Even Delphox and Probopass do a great job at that. Nice work! ps: It's funny seeing the like counter going up every few seconds while writing this comment
are you implying small details are not appreciated by (most) gamers therefore game devs shouldn't bother putting in the effort to create a thoughtfully detailed game?
@@Cajun_Seasoning Depends. Lovely details in general are a big factor for making high quality games when they contribute anything for the experience while playing. e.g.: if they make you laugh, add information, help with worldbuilding or are just adorable. If you look at Pikachu, the female has a heart-like shape at the end of its tail, which is just adorable and sweet. When it evolves it only has a little blunt spot compared to male Raichu and I don't think anyone benefits from that and certainly noone will change their opinion of Raichu based on that difference. And that is something that is true for very many of the pre gen. 5 differences. In my opinion, neither the specific Pokemon nor the game benefit from these and that's why they went on making fewer and more noticeable ones so that they actually have an impact.
I really like whenever the same species can have subtle (or not subtle) differences, Like Ben 10, A franchise I LOVE that also has really cool designs and so many different species and some of them have different looks and things like that
hornless Heracross looks so bald. My favourite is definitely the Lanturn design. I always thought it was a missed opportunity to not have a smaller male Lanturn seeing how it was such a huge difference in real life. Female Conkeldurr was giving off that granny vibe and I love the subtle purple in female Machamp that really suited it.
Try drawing different types of Sinistea/Polteageist: Dark type by using coffee foam cup & coffee decanter pot Electric type by using soda can or energy drink Fire type by using hot sauce bottle Dragon type by using Chinese dragon soup etc.
I like these, but a note is that female rabbits are larger than the males, so female diggersby should remain fat and if anything get fatter. Female rabbits also tend to have this pronounced pouch at the base of their neck? I have no idea what it’s called, but maybe more fluff could’ve alluded to that. Also, controversial, but I don’t think female Machamp should be slimmed down! I’m also just generally not a fan of Pokémon with human clothing, so I guess the unitard didn’t resonate with me either, but I do prefer it to, like, a sports bra, because why would a lizard have boobs?
I didn't like some of them, but most of them were absolutely brilliant! I especially liked the subtle ones, but I think that Machamp might've been my favorite. Fun fact; it's easier (on average) for men to develop stronger arms, while woman tend to have stronger legs. Maybe the same would be true in Machamp?
I think a staff and wizard’s beard should be reserved for a Mega Delphox design. Maybe the male has a beard and moustache combo, while the females have whiskers. Also, slap on a wizard hat for good measure, and maybe make it a witch hat for the female.
Draw modes of transportation as Pokemon: Monster Truck (Normal/Fighting type) Unicycle that evolves into a tricycle and evolves into a motorcycle (normal types for the first 2 evolution stages and steel for final) Ice cream truck (Ice type) etc.
I love the differences and how thought out they are but I’m kinda sad he didn’t get more creative with the bearded/mustached Pokémon then just removing the beard/stache on the female forms. Many female animals in nature are just as hairy as the males and also have beards (ex: goats) this seems just like kinda adding human sexual dimorphism onto animals imo. Overall I still love the video and think Ron did a great job
I was thinking and designed a fan gender difference of Primarina, if the male variant looked like a bigger sea lion with an appearance like a sea king, like King Trident from Disney’s The Little Mermaid or Poseidon from Disney’s Hercules. I still need to finish it, but I’m proud with how it’s looking so far.
Those are amazing ideas. I don’t Know why we don’t get those gender changes more often. I personally would love to have them for every Pokemon just variety.
I love how you handled female Machamp! I hope GameFreak makes it like this because I love my Machamps and genuinely want the females to be a little covered up to be more distinctive
"It's more interesting to have a masculine female Pokémon and a feminine male Pokémon. Cause that's how real life is, it spices things up", thank you for making that clear. It's fun to experiment with different designs and I personally tend to like masculine looking Pokémon or masculine forms of feminine looking Pokémon more, but that doesn't mean feminine looking Pokémon need a masculine form. It's generally just nice to be able to choose. And it's even more fun when you use actual biology and zoology to make realistic changes that are sometimes subtle and sometimes more noticeable depending on the animal. What I like most about your changes is that you don't look to make the counter parts look super masculine or feminine, just different in a way that has the wished effect but don't change the Pokémon too much.
I must confess yours is probably the only female machamp design i respect, love how you didnt make it overly feminine or give it a bra and the subtle color change actually looks good Also THANK YOU SO MUCH for making female lanturn bigger and taking real biology into account instead of using the big male/little female stereotype for all of them I usually dislike pokemon gender diference videos but this one is pretty great
I remember as I was playing Pokemon Moon purposefully blind, I caught a pair of Sandalit in the hopes it would be like Nidoking and Nidoqueen again. After the female evolved, I gave the male a few more levels before cracking and looking up how to evolve him. Finding out that they don't made me the most disappointed I'd felt in a long time
I have an idea to a Fakemon for you! I just heard about a frog called a Rain Frog. It looks like a little angry avocado and are probably the cutest frog out there and it screams like a dog toy when touching it. It could be a grass type or some sort of

@@nestlenightmare The gender differences should be similar to those of people as far as the pokemon’s design is similar to a human.
@@BuetifullPersun i feel like them all imitating human sexual dimorphism (which is more like gender dimorphism at this point) would be more boring tbh
One difference I'd make to Male/Female Machamp is have the female Machamp have bigger head spike things, and have in its dex entry say that the leader of a Machamp Tribe is always the female with the largest crest. I think it would be cool!
Honestly that's so cool
I wouldn't trade away my female Machoke for the world. 😊❤
Why did I immediately get a mental picture of a feminist protest from that🤔???🤣

I feel personally about removing female Alakazam’s whiskers/mustache because in my younger days I roleplayed a trainer with a female Alakazam who was very proud of her long whiskers.
Fun vid overall. I personally prefer the gender differences to be kept minimal, more like a neat detail than something justified by logic or biological examples in real life all the time.
@@AnonimusQualquer Based Alakazam, kicking butt while looking fabulous while doing so lol
Dang, that’d be cool to see
Deers have antlers, not horns.

@@stormylobby Imagine if they used swarm attacks by reanimating the frozen corpses of male Combee..
No you’d actually like them if you used them and got to know them and let them grow on you instead of making rash assumptions from a distance
@madnessarcade7447 nvm i misread your comment. disregard
But I really think your comment should have more likes.
i think sawsbuck should have it so female sawsbuck have the antlers in spring and summer and males have them in autumn and winter, kinda like how it is in real life
Agreed!
8:46 “very much a Mr. and Mr. Potato Head vibe going on”
idk if I'm the only one who names their Probopass "Mario" every time
Female Machamp was very well handled! I would like that so much more than having no difference!
....Also it's kinda inappropriate that female Machamp runs around topless considering it's rather humanoid looking🤣.(Cues old trashy girls gone wild video commercials)😂
I very happy that you made the default design the females in many cases where the default isn't super femenine (like Dewgong and Sirfetch'd), instead if just assuming default is male as almost everyone always
Because Tsareena is based on the Mangosteen, also known as the Queen of Fruits I think the male counterpart should be based on the Jackfruit, also known as the King of Fruits.
that's awesome and i need to see it now
Gonna get to working on that ✍🏽
that's a genius idea :0
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to pull off another Gallade situation.
@@joshjo9405Remember that Bounsweet and Steenee are female-only species.
Anglerfish males are interesting to say the least.

Love the vid. Personally I believe sawsbuck fits into the other category with a split evo counterpart based on gender. Because the entire idea of being a buck means it’s a male so having a female evo means it’s a doe.
Female machamp looks like an 80s yoga instructor. Nice touch by the way
An interesting idea for a video inspired by what you did to lanturn would be to make Neotenic pokemon pokemon that retain features from its first evolution as an example quagsire with gills and no arms
1:30 Your serious face 😂
I love the female machamp!
Same.
Female machamp should've had a vest of some kind
Also, Bellossom leans pretty far into the hula girl look-a male form would be interesting to see for that one.
alakazam feels like a mandela effect without the mustache
I don't think that any Pokémon would benefit from small differences like your Oranguru. There is a reason why gamefreak left these small ones behind. They are not noticed by many players because they are not visible on first glance and just mean more work in upcomming generations.
But I do love and wish for more of the big changes. Your Ariados, Lanturn or Sirfetch'd are the ones we need. They make people think twice about these Pokémon. Even Delphox and Probopass do a great job at that. Nice work!
ps: It's funny seeing the like counter going up every few seconds while writing this comment
Actually most gender differences are incredibly subtle. Most players wont notice a majority of them
are you implying small details are not appreciated by (most) gamers therefore game devs shouldn't bother putting in the effort to create a thoughtfully detailed game?
@@Robottank4vet Thats a completely fair answer
I really like whenever the same species can have subtle (or not subtle) differences, Like Ben 10, A franchise I LOVE that also has really cool designs and so many different species and some of them have different looks and things like that

I’m aware. Did I not say that? Weird
@truegreen7 no, you said deers lol
Idk why but female Conkeldurr gives me Miss Trunchbull vibes. You know, the principal from Matilda.
Conkeldurr was def my favorite, the granny haircut is just great.
Try drawing different types of Sinistea/Polteageist:
Dark type by using coffee foam cup & coffee decanter pot
Electric type by using soda can or energy drink
Fire type by using hot sauce bottle
Dragon type by using Chinese dragon soup
etc.
PragMagik already did a video about that
I like these, but a note is that female rabbits are larger than the males, so female diggersby should remain fat and if anything get fatter. Female rabbits also tend to have this pronounced pouch at the base of their neck? I have no idea what it’s called, but maybe more fluff could’ve alluded to that.
Also, controversial, but I don’t think female Machamp should be slimmed down! I’m also just generally not a fan of Pokémon with human clothing, so I guess the unitard didn’t resonate with me either, but I do prefer it to, like, a sports bra, because why would a lizard have boobs?
it's called a dewlap! also i didnt know machamp was supposed to be a lizard until now
was not expecting that many designs
as always, great work
I didn't like some of them, but most of them were absolutely brilliant! I especially liked the subtle ones, but I think that Machamp might've been my favorite. Fun fact; it's easier (on average) for men to develop stronger arms, while woman tend to have stronger legs. Maybe the same would be true in Machamp?
It's great to see people appreciating realistic biology again! Thank you so much!

I think a staff and wizard’s beard should be reserved for a Mega Delphox design. Maybe the male has a beard and moustache combo, while the females have whiskers. Also, slap on a wizard hat for good measure, and maybe make it a witch hat for the female.
Really cool, I'd like to see more of this series!

Overall I still love the video and think Ron did a great job
agree with this! was a great video but i personally wasn't a big fan of the nosepass :(
I would've added some vivid tail feathers for Blaziken, or at least in its crest

I must confess yours is probably the only female machamp design i respect, love how you didnt make it overly feminine or give it a bra and the subtle color change actually looks good
Also THANK YOU SO MUCH for making female lanturn bigger and taking real biology into account instead of using the big male/little female stereotype for all of them
