And I feel like that has less to do with the contestants (since we had so many creative and/or fashion queens that season) and more so to do with the fact that the category jet set elaganza is both very constricting and very plane.
i fully agree i wish the prompt would have pushed itself a little bit more towards a creative approach instead of just being glamour

Popular usage of the term trauma on the internet to mean things other than what the DSM has defined has watered down its meaning for people who actually suffer from trauma. People often joke about trauma and throw it around, as you have done here. Imagine how that might make someone feel. I'm not sure why you would say "except it doesn't", my knowledge comes from the field of clinical psychology but you could have googled my claim.

This discussion really highlighted so many cultural differences. I am Asian and the beginning reminded me of my discussions with white people from small towns who are allies to LGBTQI, black people, Latin American, but are less aware of Asia. Maddy's transformation from the beginning of the conversation to the end of the episode is remarkable. Maddy is not only a great interviewer who listens but also tries to understand.

I remember some of the famous impersonators (that's what drag queens were previously called in the Philippines), were straight men, so when Maddy came out as straight, it wasn't a shocker to me since it's quite normal to see straight drag queens in mainstream Philippine media even in the 1980's to the 2000's. The pioneers though were, of course, queer Filipinos.

Hell no. Going independent most of the time is better. Better for Maddy’s personal branding and with less network control too. Maybe getting it on WOW will get more views but obviously revenue-wise it’s always better to be independent. Maddy has a sizable niche and sponsorships too.

Chiming in to say that when I was little I was hit (not often) with a classroom pointer stick called "The Black Hand" and also when I struggled to read music notes, I got hit with a pillow. Pangina is bringing light to many people's childhood stories 🙌
I can relate too. As born Latin American (Ecuador) my parents would never put on a hand on me. But I was petrified to know the new school they sent me it was pretty normal for teachers to punish ALL students of the classroom by hitting them with a wooden stick one by one whenever ONE of them misbehaved. It was a rough era to go thru that.

Yep, my mother and many others like the star gooseberry branches because it was sooooooo think and getting rid of the leaves was totally just too easy.
So I’m Thai and Lao and my parents never hit with things but my dad did serve in the Vietnam war so I wasn’t hit with physical things, just emotional things and then my dad would yell at me for crying and tell me that if you’re not in physical pain you don’t need to cry…Asian trauma!

What i love about this show, even though it's maddy show, the star of the show always the guests. We learn so much about them beyond their drag persona, it's a learning experience for all of us. And Maddy's here being the medium for us, she listens and do her research and dare to explore some deep stuff respectfully. All of these make the show so great and fun to watch

Wow, what Pangina said about people and particularly her mom hitting her with all types of objects really struck a cord.
Personal story: My mom is mixed black and Korean born in Korean and moving to the US at a young age, her mom was anywhere from aloof to abusive as a parent and her dad was in the military for most of her younger years. When I was living with my mom she would hit me or punish me for things a lot of parents would let go, which I learned through years of TV in childhood. "Anything she could get her hands on" is how I've described it over the years; table legs, cooking utensils, door stopper bar, hairbrushes, etc. No lie, on my 9th birthday she slapped me across the face because she said my hair wasn't brushed and me, as a child, who may not have brushed it well insisted I did. In an extremely fortunate and unexpected turn of events, I was able to leave my mother's custody in my mid-teens and live with a relative she had kept me from for over a decade without me knowing. That relative was able to provide me with a better life which has made all the difference in my path.
I don't share my story often because it has so many pieces, and those who have not experienced with a lifestyle like it can have a hard time grasping that it does stick with you even if you work each day, week and month to not let the memories overtake you. It's really interesting to look at how Eastern and Western norms differ but pain is pain, and inflicting uncontrolled and unreasonable levels of hurt onto anyone animal, child, or person is one of the worse things a being can do. Thanks for reading if you did, really been enjoying Maddy's organic and informed interview style. It allows the guest and audience to feel at ease
