  • This video is all about DIY slat wall bin organization for reasonable costs. I didn't want to buy into a proprietary organization system for two reasons:
    1. They are expensive.
    2. I didn't want to be locked into a specific ecosystem that wouldn't work if the manufacture changes designs or quits selling the product.
I wasn't able to find many resources on what works and what doesn't for the DIY hobbyist's garage. Many of the retail display stores cater to professionals and construction people that build retail stores and displays. Most of them offer bins of varying shapes and sizes but shipping can be expensive if not local. All of the products shown are available on Amazon (the clear ones are avail at retail stores and Amazon and the gray ones are also available at Lowes). Links below. Thanks for watching.
I an not sponsored and have no affiliate links, just a list of tools and items personally used or seen in the video.

Setting up my home school room and wondered if I could use pegboard products with a Slatwall. Thanks for answering that question! I'm much closer to a decision now.

Looks like things are moving along for you. Congratulations! I spent years getting my production shop running, I almost gave up several times.
I use the slat walls in grinding, sanding, and painting rooms, very dusty environments. My walls have the aluminum tracks inside them. My solution to the boxes, was to use crush resistant shipping boxes, that have a lid. Probably because I have thousands of them on hand.
I use a 1/2 Wide x 1/6 Thick x 3 Foot piece of aluminum flat stock. I cut it down to 3 inch strips, bend an L shape on them, so that it fits the track and hangs. Then I cut a piece using the same flat stock, for the inside of the box, normally 6 to 12 inches long, running horizontally inside the box. I then drill and rivet them to the box, the L shapes on the outside of course.
For really heavy items, I’ll cut the hangers much longer and have them run under the box for extra support.
This method requires a little more work, but is a fraction of the cost, and keeps the dust off of my tools and materials.

Nice! Thanks for the support. It's taking soooo long! haha. That's an awesome solution. Am going to look into that further as my needs expand. Thank you.

I have found that the suppliers for retail showrooms have much better options than these. Unfortunately those suppliers seldom sell through common consumer channels such as amazon or home depot. But they do seem to sell to anyone with a credit card over the counter.

Make simple sheet metal L-shaped shelves width and length of screw boxes with another L-shaped bracket at top to mate to slatwall. . Use clear tape to afix boxes to hangers. When empty cut them from brackets.....or refill from new screw boxes. Wrap paperboard screw boxes with clear packaging tape so they are stronger, use marker on box end for easy ID of specific screws. Slatwall slots are 3" on center, will take two boxes stacked.
