I can relate to blues philosophy in the way that I can't help be curious about death but know I can only get the answer once it happens but it never stops me pondering.

Two of my favorite lines about death are from a Mili song (Extension of You)-
"I know that bodies rot, but where are your self? Where are all your thoughts?"
"Does it feel good to die? To live your next life?"
What colors would you associate with this song?

@@DiceTry yeah I've noticed there's a lot of death and resurrection in their older music. In this particular song the singer was a cyborg who was being raised and taught by someone who died, but the singer didn't quite understand the concept. Pretty child-like almost

I think there is something about the death for blue that was actually missing in the video. Every other color has a certain way to overcome death and become immortal while blue doesn't. For the first, to understand what is the death for the color we need to examine what is the life for them, what substantial for their existence? For example, white doesn't fear to sacrifice one's own self to save others. It would be seen as a person still lives in the heart's of those that he/she cared about and which cared about him/her. It is because life of individual is a part of life of the community for the white. It can be a small village, kingdom, humanity or every living being in the multiverse. While for the black the death of self is actually real death. Black doesn't care about death of a mortal body but about presence of the consciousness and will. So black mages fine with the life of undead. Red can find that if the moment of death is fulfilled with passion and feelings it can match nothingness follows up. Because for the red life is present in the powerful expiriences like furious battle or even something more peaceful like gorgeous party. And for green there is only one living thing which is nature. The death of anyone is not more than a part of life's cycle of something much more than them. Like "death" of child who becomes an adult. For blue life is infinite quest for knowledge. Therefore if a blue mage won't die physically or mentally at some point he/she will learn everything that can be learned. Nothing will be left to discover. But for blue that discovery is what makes life worth living. Life will become boring. On the other end we have uncertainty or blue's fear of uncertainty which both could be found in the Lovecraft's novels. The heroes of his stories often curious about universe's secrets but not as much after facing some of them. And I think this is not because secrets are so disturbing but because they realize that with their human minds it's impossible to truly understand this universe. After this realization attempts to uncover multiverse's mysteries is meaningless because they are going to fail eventually. So no matter if blue succeed in it's quest for knowledge or not life will eventually become existence and death isn't that fearful in this case. In that sense blue is the ultimate color of mortality. It is because the only way to avoid disappointment and ultimate dissatisfaction for blue mages is to die before reaching the final point of their research. I think this is something very interesting and unexpected to learn about the color. Something makes it truly unique and unlike others.
    P. S. After redacting this post a couple times I had an idea that we could see life in the eyes of blue not as a research of an individual but as a "research". Some kind of transcendent "thinking" that doesn't belong to anyone in particular but which includes everyone's thought process as it's part. And if we assume that infinity is a part of this process nature it invalidates the whole point. But I spended too much time writing this so I will post the text anyway. Also this last theory is probably very unusual view for an average blue mage so be it.

I guess I'm Temur (big shock I know) as always. I try to live life instead of being afraid, but I don't want to die anytime soon because I know people will miss me. When I do die, I think it'd be cool to have a tree planted over me so I can keep something living despite my passing. And I have my own sort of tributes to loved ones I miss dearly.

Like, I know that Death is a very natural part of Life, and I take comfort in that very thought. But the thought of my friends and family dying fills me with a deep sadness, one that I know I would feel very deeply.

This puts me firmly in golgari… or dimir… can’t figure out fully. Edit: I’m bug and I don’t know how to feel about that. XD
I fear an unexpected death, but not death itself. I know I am of flesh and of light and that my natural self may die and rot, my soul will go on. I long to know the sensation and experience that death and the afterlife beyond holds for me.
There’s an adventure time quote by jake that I always love. Can’t remember in full but it’s about him accepting that he’s gonna die and can’t wait to have his conciseness smeared across the universe!

What's funny is that although I am very much Grixis overall, most of my views on death are actually more aligned with green. I regard death as a natural part of life that deserves to be as respected as birth and growth. It is the nature of all things or nearly all things that they must one day come to an end, and to me, that is what gives existence meaning and purpose, concepts which are deeply rooted in green.

i've shifted from abzan to sultai in my ideology over time. death, in my opinion, isn't a tool to be played with or some sacred rest, its a variable, and the results of that variable is how we as people and as a society either fail or prosper. sometimes life is burdensome, other times death is the enemy, its all a balance that needs to be thought of with caution and steady insight

  • @devanradford6108

Concerning mortality, I seem to shift a bit. When it's 3 in the morning and I'm having a panic attack I will barely remember the next day, I'm Black Red for sure. I need to escape what will happen, there has to be a way out, and I'll burn everything I have to get it done.
When I'm a bit more stable however, I'd say I'm more White Red. Death sucks and efforts should be made to push it as far back as possible, but it will inevitably happen. And with that knowledge I remember to live for now and worry less about what will follow tomorrow. When I'm incredibly frustrated or need to calm down I'll use the phrase "It's fine. You'll die someday. You, and everything else." It gives me some comfort to remember this.
There are times when I'd say my alignment is Colorless, where I'm apathetic towards my own and others mortality, or worse. But those are scary times and it's usually best to "stay in place" until it passes over.
Also, I'd like to say I really appreciate your dives into the color pie! I lost my passion for mtg a couple of years ago, and when I tried to get it back what reignited my spark was the philosophy and ideology of the color pie! Cards look so different know with that this light. Anyways yeah, you're awesome.

I think White has the most reasonable outlook on death. If it happens unnaturaly then it can't be right and in the other case you want to make sure it is truly a final rest. There is good reason we deem things like zombification immoral by instinct

@@eudaldvidalcodony7089 Interestingly there are quite a few parallels between Black and White here aswell. Note that Blue and White have the most Spirit creatures out of all colors. Spirits being the souls of deceased people represent some kind of life after death which Black too is all about. Still this creature type isn't as common for it. Shades don't count as they are not actual lingering souls but beings of shadow. The big difference is that Black tries to overcome death by using resurrection which most often results in Zombies or Vampires. This is unholy magic as it not only defies the natural cycle (which Spirits do aswell) but also forces this Status on others than itself. The practitioner also retains control over the physical world at the cost of certain bodily "deformations". So I think we agree with regards to the general idea but disagree on its execution

Black is such a hypocrite, completely enamored with utilizing the dead as a tool but completely unwilling and even fearful of the idea of it happening to them. Truly why they make such great villains, cliché-callouts be damned.

    • @emjakos3548

It isn't that hypocritical, if you consider it from an entirely egoistic position. It's a honest double-standard: "There's me, and then there's everyone else".
