- The Shards of Magic: the Gathering are a set of combinations centered on each of the games five colors and its two allies. In this video I will explain how this section of the color pie is leveraged to create the factions and characters of MTG

So which Shard do you resonate most with?
Esper and Bant are my favorite!
Definately the blue-aligned Grixis, for a long time now I have been creating some sort of way to systematically think of Existence, through borrowing from many different fields within Philosophy, but obviously Ontology more so than any other. Through that system, I even filtered myself through it to try to determine what it means to be "Me", and in order to do so I had to ask some uncomfortable questions, like "When am I the most small?" as one example. I am definately Izzet aligned in general, but that exercise itself makes me think of what you said a Blue aligned Grixis would be like.
Edit: However, your coverage of Jund and Bant makes me interested to see you cover Temur, because the system itself wasn't make to filter myself, but as a way to think of how we can best know "What is". I just happened to use it on myself as an exercise.
I like. The cheesesm
Bant, for sure
@@fenrirsilver6441grixis is black aligned. Not blue. Blue is esper
Dice and Rhystic Studies dropping the same weekend?! Lifes good!
haha, it's a good week to be a Magic enjoyer
Looking forward to the Wedges, Temur especially given it's Focuses .
The others because I like visualizing the 4-colour combinations as Tetrahedrons (Faces are 3-color, Edges are 2-color, Vericies are Monocolour) because it makes establising your starting theme of the combo easier (Whichever Vertex is on top is your Focus)
I am excited to get to Wedges, as well. Will have to a bit patient though, as I am thinking it won't be until the new year
A Red-based Naya is absolutely me. One thing that I've loved for a long time is how I can learn a lot about people from the color(s) that they choose more than the rest. MTG can reflect our life's philosophies and show the world both who we are inside, and the mask that we present to everyone else. I can't wait for the Wedge video, I wonder if my Wedge is more Jeskai or Temur? Maybe I'll be surprised that it's neither?
2:03 so essentially Esper is the "null hypothesis" of the color combo, highlighting the effects of the missing colors more than the present ones.
That's true for all of the shards. When Alara was divided, each shard lacked 2 of the colors of mana.
At least, that's how I remembered it. It's been a while since shards and I might crumble into dust if I found out how long it was.
Your videos blow me away man! Thanks for showing me why my first 2 commanders decks ended up being Grixus. Can't wait for the wedges vid!
Wedges will be the first thing I start at the beginning of the new year
I am a naya timmy that doesnt even play black or blue amd have always felt the way this video explains about my colors, nature driven with alot pf power but the cohesion of having multiple things come together for a win
I like this, but that brings into question, what about the other five color combos? Abzan, Jeskai, Mardu, Sultai, and Temur?
I will be covering all the wedges in the beginning of the new year
i think that i resonate the most with esper, but not sure at wich branch that it comes with the color pairs, but besides that pretty nice video dice, loved it!!
Bant would be my best shard, centered around my best color of white.
I often find myself gravitating to Bant, at least when it comes to shards
I’ve been a Naya player ever since Alara.
It's easy to think of Esper as the truest evil, morally self-righteous color combo, etc. etc. For my money, I'd call a lot of vigilante characters Esper, though, ones that are indeed often considered some of the most heroic precisely because of the darkness they're touched by and the self-control they exert. Most iterations of Batman- a true idealist that nonetheless exerts covert influence on his society from the shadows, that chiefly uses fear and planning and research on his targets to achieve many of his goals to take down his rogue gallery- come to mind.
YESSSSSS Omg, my evening quality just SKYROCKETED.
i thought a shard is when you fart but you get a lil extra
That’s ‘shart’ with a ‘t’ shit+fart
Esper, all the way. Always. It has two of the BEST colors in EDH, which is Blue and Black.
Really can't believe we've went back to Zendikar twice, Innistrad Twice, Ravnica Twice(after the first time we've been there) and have yet to return to Alara.
I like the shards but i prefer wedges, Madu and Temur are my favorites but Naya is chill
I feel like it would have been much more clear *what* a Shard was if, at the very start of the video, you showed the card back with the color wheel design on it (or your own graphic version of it), maybe mention Wedges as well, and maybe even kept that graphic up in the corner of the video or something for each Shard you detailed
Man why does thinking about these alignments hurt my head?
People are talking about “I’m a little bit of this shard with a bit more white” or “they call me Mr Bant, because I love being self sufficient, but also I have a bit of this color in me”.
I’m just here trying to wrap my head around the base 5 color ideals. I know you talked about them in the start of the episode, but it still doesn’t make sense to me.
Yeah the 3 color combinations are a bit to jump into. I do have a video like this for all 5 colors as well as all 20 pairs, I would maybe start there if you are interested.
I was expecting a 4 color set 😔
Instead we get Spidey and FF in Standard 💀💀💀 (though I am a fan MTG just feels like TCG's Fortnite instead of getting another Lorwyn or Kaldheim)
Heck even Aetherdrift is just PWs racing
Like OTJ being PW cowboys
DSK being PW horror survivors
MKM being PW detectives
Jund is great tho i was raised on a cattle ranch so seems fairly predictable
So Shockwave from transformers would be esper.
Im the 2nd coment lets GOOOOO!!!
wrong the shards are the 5 3 color worlds form the plane of alarah
Yes, and when they came out that became the names for this set of color combinations.
