woods that can be used for this project-
ideally, the wood should be-
not too hard (so you can carve without too much effort)
and not too soft. (so the wood does not break, and can hold details carved into it)
a lot of different woods can be carved, I can't name them all but here is a few below.
Lime, ash, sycamore, holly, birch, willow, oak(can be hard), London plane, pine, etc

What are the best knives for high school students to use for wood carving?

I really like the music playing in the background, so you should keep it!
How do you know which way the natural grain of the wood is going?
Sorry for late reply to your question.
the grain runs vertically up the tree as it grows. I find it helps to imagine it like a bunch of straws bundled together. Hope this helps .
The music is OK!
Ce serait bien plus facile avec un couteau de sculpture
Either the wood is very soft or your thumb is really strong .
Bit of both I think ☺️
Helpful video. But if I had to listen to that profoundly awful music with a whittling knife in my hand, I would have done something drastic... 🙄
Thanks for your feed back this was also my concern about adding music I'm learning as I go. I think I will not be adding any in future videos
Ps please make sure not to watch this with a knife in your hand 🤣 I'd better add a disclaimer that listening to the music may be dangerous!😂😂
@@TheForestSchoolWay I dig the music
@@ryanwalker1341 I also "dig" the music. Easy on the ears!
That 'profoundly awful' music is enjoyable to hear! Could you have done better?
