  • First Time in Hong Kong - Hong Kong functions as a special administrative region under China. This was our first time in Hong Kong and we were shocked by the vibrant energy pulsating through the crowded streets. Hong Kong is more than just a concrete jungle, it's a metropolis with diverse cultures, incredible food and lots of green space.

Welcome to HK! My office is just round the corner from where you had the dim sum lunch and I often get take away from there. Wish I knew you were coming and would have loved to meet you guys.
Great to see to see you're enjoying it here! Just a few things, the taxi's are all pretty new, not as new as the ones in China, the vast majority are Toyota Crowns, they just look old.....
It appears you arrived just after Chinese New Year here and many are still on holiday and the main business districts are still quiet, starting tomorrow, it will be much busier.
Getting across the road from the shopping mall to the harbour, actually there's a tunnel at the basement carpark of the World Trade Centre that take you to the harbour, where it exists is a cannon where Jardines will fire the noon-day gun every day! SO you may wish to make a trip there to see them fire it.
Travelling through HK, you could get an Octopus Card, similar to an Oyster Card, only capable of being used in just about all public transport, many fast food restaurants, convenience stalls, supermarkets, and many more and you can top them up at any convenience store, supermarket and many other stores. It's available from any MTR station and you can return it when you leave or keep it as a souvenir.
You'll need to go back to the peak and victoria harbour at night, the views are absolutely stunning. At 8pm every night there is a light show and if you watch from the kowloon side of the Star Ferry, you will get the accompanying music from the area by that big clock tower. Oh, BTW, it's not a light house at the top, the location used to be the railway terminus, when they demolished it, they kept the clock tower.
With a 3 month visa you've plenty of time to visit HK, and you should go to some of the temples in Kowloon and New Territories, namely Wong Tai Sin Temple in Kowloon and Che Kung Temple in Shatin, both have their own MTR Stations. Both of these are commonly visited at this time of the year.

Since you are in HK, you might want to reenter China by Guangchou and travel southwards towards Guiling, great landscape, breathtaking. I am sure you are not done with China. Back north there is the avartar mountains then you have Xian, Kunming, Dali and the Himalayas where you can go some distance by cable cars and hike up the stairs. And in Yunan, there is the famous Tiger leaping gourge and other than that Yunan has one of the most breathtaking landscpe in the country side. Happy Adventure! Just a few suggestions since you are near to China. You might not be sure when you can have a chance for another trip if you left that area now, Just making the best and planning well!

Was in Hong Kong in 1996, too fast pace and expensive, just stayed for 3 days. Then me and my ex went to Macau and stayed and worked there for more than a year. Macau was more laid back those days and not expensive but now it is almost as fast pace and expensive like HK

Another great option to get to the Peak is … walking up! It’s rather easy and the walk is really nice … all paved, lots of shade and fantastic views of the harbour. Not to mention a great workout before another delicious meal. 😂
