My son just arrived yesterday, Nov 5th. It was a long trip getting there. I'm so proud of him. This was a great video for me to watch and I don't feel so apprehensive.
Great memories ! I did Fitness and bootcamp there. Fitness where I got physically fitted thru training From November 1988 to January 1989 and Bootcamp from January 1989 to March 1989. I loved my experience there.
Was there Sept 1989. Was missing my girl really bad through that time I was at Jackson. Went to fort Gordon for AIT afterwards. Ended up on Ft Bragg and in the Desert for Gulf War not long after that. Seems like a 100 years ago.
When I had basic training, our haircuts were 4 strokes 1,2,3,4 'NEXT' the gas chamber we had a large tree out back 90% of us hit that tree, our instructors, were laughing. we didn't train with females in 1982, we only saw females at KP. In my platoon I was a road guard, we didn't have buses it was old fashioned 'CATTLE CARS', we marched everywhere 'CATTLE CARS' was a treat.
Sounds like jacksons more of a treat than what benning is about to put me through, only 3 weeks due to the delayed trainee program, then straight to georgia but still looks alot more eased
BCT at Ft Dix, NJ 1982, The Drill Sergeants put the recruit with the longest hair at the front of the haircut line. This genius showed up at Basic with hair half way down his back. The barber started the haircut and the Drills started yelling that it was taking too long to cut that long hair. When the barber had just the left side of this kid's hair cut off, the Drills yanked him out of the chair and sent him to the back of the line. It was hilarious, and we couldn't even laugh without getting smoked.
I've gone to Army BCT more than over a year ago in Ft. Leonardwood, MO, did a lot like what was on the video, except for the hand to hand combat we did not do. Every night before hygiene and lights out, we would get night night bars (calcium bars, either cherry tart, chocolate, or caramel sea salt). 😊
the look like marine CAPS? Jarheads? I've always considered the day I left boot camp (Ft Jackson) I was i the best shape of my life.. To this day like 50 years later I wanna get BACK to that shape! It felt like they were starving us but I went from 145lb to 165.. To this day I remember that GAS exercise my first terror experience! Family Day sucked for me everyone else had family there..

As soon as I arrived at reception at Fort Jackson in 1989 I wanted to go home. I tried to fake asthma but it didn't work. When I got to AIT at Fort Gordon I played crazy until they finally let me out. The week I was processing out I literally had 100s of guys begging me to tell them how to get out.
Damn we road in cattle cars standing up back during my boot camp days 1989..NOT BUSES 🚌 OR we Marched everywhere, or in the back of trucks 🚚. UNBELIEVABLE what our US ARMY and military has become. 😮😅
What's so unbelievable about having vehicles for transportation in 2024? They're still marching and going through training, and I'm sure they're working just as hard as you did in 1989.

God bless the US Military.
Times have changed. When I went through Basic most drill sergeants had combat patches. Now I rarely see them.
A lot of the drills at 3-39 have CIBs

I was in the MC, but it's cool to see a video on the Army's training.

I’m going to Join The United States Army at Fort Jackson SC, USA after 2 years in College in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA

They should do a Fort Sill version
I did BCT at Ft.Dix,NJ in November 1984. It was about 2 hours from my house. So it was a drag being so close to home and couldn’t go to the house.

I’m going February 18th, 2025
The haircuts look so gentle compared to marine corp boot camp
Graduated on nov 6th from there that civilian barber is rude af
TRAINING WITH FEMALES NOW..not back in my boot camp days..Ft. Knox Ky. 1989. UNBELIEVABLE
I went to FT.JACKSON ( 2020 ) they train together but for the most part the males and females were separated
Males and females should never train together but the females should have to shave their heads just like the males.
1986 Ft McClellan Military Police OSUT was coed
I do not like the green uniforms at all.The uniforms they are graduating in if not mistaken are from the 40s.Super cool!

Black dudes wasting camo, when I was in Drill said if your as black as this guy you need no camo 😂
We didn't do the combat stuff because the drill sergeant said they had way too many injuries and we had to wear ipro 24/7
