The question becomes how much higher before trucks are priced beyond the reach of all but the very wealthy? On the positive side it appears that the decade of gray, white, silver, and black is over, nice to see so many bright blues, reds and yellow vehicles.

The Ranger Raptor could be a bargain if you can get a dealer to sell at sticker. Seeing serious mark-ups on them by dealers. Would love one, but refuse to pay.
The only way prices will ever come down is if the government regulates the vehicle market and set limits on how long you could finance a vehicle. Can you imagine what would happen if you could only finance a vehicle for 4 years. A 75,000 truck at zero percent interest would be 1562.5 a month.
I agree, also the banks need to stop lending stupid amounts of money for these trucks, at least require 20% down payment. Let see who can come up with $20k down payment.
NEWS!!!!! So I talked to a dealership and after the information passed around about no big markups with Ford. This dealership said the Ranger Raptor will be marked up by $10k over sticker price. 🤦🏻♂️I was interested when thinking $56k-$60k but over $65k....WTF. Looks like I will keep to XL or XLT.
I enjoyed the price analysis and you guys open my eyes to possibly going with a midsize in the future as my full size is getting older! Thank you for all the great work you do.
Great video guys! BTW, y'all were fortunate to get your Tacoma at MSRP. Fred Haas Toyota here in Spring, TX is adding about $4500 to MSRP for those of us peasants (😂) who are would be buyers. I assume thats the same across the country right now.
@czwhat328 ehh, it's where the market is. I'm not butt hurt and they know that there are thousands of people willing to pay over MSRP. Dealers and manufacturers aren't the problem. The average person is.
For future reference, whenever you hit a location with loud background music, mute that segment of the video in editing and add voice-over. Note the reason for the audio change with a quick explanation and never have to skip over something important again.
The ranger raptor isn’t a bargain. Because the dealer will add 15k, like they add 5-6k to the mavericks. And then it’s 70k like every other full size truck you showed.
The retro themed Frontier is pretty cool, the gloss black nose idk but the rest is neat. My family had an old Pathfinder years ago and the tough Nissan stuff still has some pull for me
For 2nd owner value, used with mileage all those offers seemed fair. Actually some higher than expected. For owners selling to buy a new vehicle it’s actually sometimes better to trade in for the vehicle you want because compare the trade in price plus the savings in sales tax from that and add the two together and then compare if you can sell it for more then that as a private sale. Sometimes those numbers are greater then selling private party and no hassles or risks. Then having to pay the next vehicle entire sales tax. If you selling a newer vehicle private party and own it out right. Don’t say in your ad or on phone call you have the title. Say in ad title with local bank and schedule showings during banking hours. That way you won’t be a target to thief’s.
The best overall value has to be a Nissan Frontier or the Honda Ridgeline. I’m not crazy about Nissan reliability, however the Frontier shouldn’t be to bad since it’s more of a progression than a total redesign. Honda, if you can’t get pass people heckling you for owning a Ridgeline, isn’t actually a bad truck. No, it’s not a crazy off roader or will tow large numbers, but for most truck needs it does that and more. I really hope Honda has a new design coming soon. The new Pilot is fantastic and the Passport and Ridgeline are due for a new generation.
Great video gentlemen! I'll stick with my 2003 GMC Sierra Denali Quadrasteer, most comfortable seats ever. It will also out maneuver all trucks still at 20 years old. If you can find one, you guys need to test drive and showcase it.
I’ve owned 2 Mavericks so far (hybrid & ecoboost) and loved them. That 20k to 25k base price is going to be a deal breaker for many people. Also that old 20k price was for a hybrid, and Ford is now charging extra for that. Idk, Ford went up way too fast on the Mavericks in my opinion for not much change in the truck.
I was told when I ordered my maverick that if I placed an order that the price was msrp with no markup. I ordered and that was the price when it showed up. If the dealer orders the truck for their stock, then the dealer owns it and can charge any amount they wish.
At 14:00 is my impression of the current truck market. Everything is expensive, because all the trucks in stock are equiped like luxury sports cars. The roughing it, tough guy truck owner image is becoming an affectation, because so many people are driving around luxo-yachts on wheels as their commuter car, and a vanishingly few are actually driving WORK vehicles. I want to see base model, most capability for the lowest price vehicles. Something I won't mind if it gets a little dirty or scratched or, heaven forbid! Dented!
The big 3 stop with ranger size trucks then market the full size truck and then turn into a luxury grocery getter. Very few cafe rules and huge markup.
Toyota screwed the pooch with this 🆕 Tacoma everything from pricing to making you have a hybrid that's basically unreparable if you're on a trail.. just a flawed vehicle! Nice video guys as always
I agree with this video 100%. My big issue is I do not want to an force Max. I'm not ready to go full for e into the hybrid world. I also hate the white interior and highly touch areas. I think the 1794 Limited Edition should be 2000 per year with more color options minus the TRD package because I do not do offroad I love the center console safe.
Mark Allen retiring is a huge blow to Jeep. Set aside the expense of the product for a minute, he always had that traditional vision that I think long time Jeep enthusiasts appreciated. I fear for the future of this product with the Stellantis ownership. To me they clearly do not understand Jeep Americana and if it were up to them, want to be Range Rover (look at the new design as it screams RR Velar). I fell away from Jeep last year and after 20 years went to a Bronco WildTrak. I’m really happy with it.
The "bargain" trucks are more likely to be shown at auto shows run by dealer groups. My pick would be the full size ones with a little bit of an appearance package so think Tundra SR5, F150 STX, Chevrolet Custom, Ram Big Horn. All of the mid size trucks are too FratBoy/HighSchool jock off road to be legitimate now.
I think it's a safe prediction that Nissan's Frontier pickup will sale well in 2024. Most reasonably priced real truck and a naturally aspirated V-6. These small twin-turbo engines are a unknown as far as longevity, I just can't trust them yet. People are right about auto makers and dealers having priced themselves beyond buyers grasp. The money is just not there. What world does the auto industry live in? Do they not hear the buying public crying out?
It's a shame the compact Rampage 🐏 and Hilux aren't on US shores. We need more vehicles starting around $30k, because not everyone needs leather interior, heated steering wheel,etc...The Maverick has proven the demand for a compact truck.
Excellent overview of the state of the art and comparison of trucks in America. I just bought a 2023 F150 XLT with the 3.5l Ecoboost. I love it. I also have a Tacoma. I hate the Tesla truck. It is an abomination. I simply can’t believe that truck is actually better for the environment overall.
That show might say the Zr2 is 48, but I can't find it for less than $55 gentlemen. In fact the GMC sister AT4X and ZR2 list for almost $60 in most places. Not a bargain. Until dealers are forced to drop the prices by spring. There are 2023 listed with with $3,000 to $4000 off. With inflation and a recession, people are NOT buying. Jeep not spending the money to be at the show is your sign. I think people are underestimating that sign. It's much bigger than most think. It's not just a pass on a demo. Great show as always guys. Wish I would've been able to meet you at the show.
True. I hate all that "Starts at $xx" for high end models because none of them actually ship like that. I was surprised their Taco Off-road was so stripped.
I do wish that smaller trucks like the S-10, Sonoma, Dakota, etc. are made. Make them smaller than the Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado/Canyon, and Ranger. That way, it's much cheaper, easier to maneuver, and more fuel efficient.
Crazy! Clearly ford won with the all ranges of budget friendly. Breakdown: MAVERICK! Ranger Raptor for $56k 😮. I can get a full size f-250 with 6.8 in the 50’s and the 7.3 in the 60’s without the lame auto start stop😂😂. Ford hands down clearly wins!
What about dealer markups in the thousands ? Unwanted dealer add ons ? Shipping ? Set up charges ? Etc , Etc , Etc , . AND 6.00 dollar a gallon fuel ? High Interest on the loan . And Fords warranty issues , recalls ? TIME TO GO FULLY MODERN AND BUY A REAL TRUCK - TESLA CYBERTRUCK
Everyone seems to love the truck from "Back To The Future" and the Nissan Hardbody looks very similar to that movie truck. I like the Nissan Frontier Pro-X (2wd) King Cab because it has a 6-cylinder engine and is designed like a classic truck. Even though I don't like technology in a truck I appreciate how Nissan moulded the dash around the touchscreen. I think the Nismo roof rack for the Frontier is ugly and needs some design improvements. I noticed that Honda also figured out how to properly mount a touchscreen into the dash unlike Toyota who put the screen on the dash. If Honda focused on a all-wheel drive sport truck instead of a off-road truck they would have a better city truck than the Ford Maverick. I hate the modern trend to put 4-cylinder engines in trucks. A 4-cylinder works great in a car or small SUV but not a truck. A mid-sized truck needs either a 6 or 8 cylinder high torque engine to move the mass of the truck, cargo, and a trailer. LHT Performance put a V8 in a Chevy Colorado and get 28-30 MPG on the highway which a turbocharged 4-cylinder can't match. When a V8 mid-sized truck is towing on the highway it isn't working hard so it doesn't guzzle gas like a 4-cylinder. Has TFL heard anything about the 2025 Kia Tasman? I don't know if it's real or just wishful thinking. But the Images of the Tasman look good because it is boxy and reminds me of the Jeep Honcho.
If you want to talk about "bargains", why not compare buying a midsized truck with no options, and doing an after-market lift, tires, wheels, shocks, versus a factory upgrade. Which is better and cheaper? Do you lose all factory warranty if you go off-roading?
Great video! I love the budget models.

The cyber truck is an updated Chevy lumina van. Silhouette lol
I knew jeep was backing out of auto shows but i didnt realize they fully gave up 😭 the only American company able to hold up is Ford, dodge is italian and GM has been running on tax dollars for far to long
Except the most American made truck there was the Honda Ridgeline, probably followed by the Tundra. From parts to assembly.
Hate to break it to ya but Ford gets more in subsidies than GM - by only a few hundred thousand, but still.
@@Dusdaddy maybe cybertruck might be most usa content ?
@@lesterng5748 he is confused…
@@lesterng5748 You are correct! Totally forgot about that one?
Love the all new Ranger! The gen2 '19-23 was awesome. 💯
🔥You Guys Did A Great Job At The Show
This and the car discussion were awesome.
Just so you know TLF...I appreciate each and every video you people produce for our entertainment. I do realize all the work and time and money that must go into to them... THANK YOU !
25:01 🤣 "Too soon" 😂
Great job finishing this year 🙌🏽 👏🏽 and thanks for sharing the video with some good tunes 🔊 🎶 🎸 👍🏽
Tacoma's prices are ridiculous, I bought the first TRD Pro manual cement grey in 2017 for 40k flat. Today the PRO will be 55k, since the a loaded up Taco on their site is 55k. This is ridiculous, and I'm getting the Ranger Raptor all day every day for 55k than a loaded Taco and even a Pro Taco.
"Bargain" Lmao what a joke
Could you guys try to start w/the cheaper trucks then work you way to the Super Duty(s) type trucks that most of us can’t afford anyway.
The question becomes how much higher before trucks are priced beyond the reach of all but the very wealthy? On the positive side it appears that the decade of gray, white, silver, and black is over, nice to see so many bright blues, reds and yellow vehicles.
36:20 The rims on this Frontier remind me of the rims on the first generation Pathfinder , pretty cool.
I bought a 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR 4x4 Access Cab 4 cylinder a few months ago specifically because it was a BARGAIN. $33,800 MSRP, purchase price, $32,400. Does all the truck stuff 95% of us need. Get while there are still some left at dealerships!
I really wish I could have gotten one as well last summer. My dad bought the same with the SX package for my stepmom on Maui from Honolulu Servco Toyota for $34,000 out the door and I got my TRD Off Road base in January 2024 for $41,000 out the door. I really was limited in the availability since the 2024’s were only a few weeks from the docks here.
I got the 2023 since the clamshell of the ACab is going away for 2024.
Welcome to Chicago, guys! You got great weather this weekend! 🙌
I can’t believe how much trucks are. I remember wanting a 1991 Toyota 4x4 Pickup (Hilux) regular cab 4-cylinder with manual; shift, windows, locks and hubs on sale for $11,000 from $16,000. Now 33 years later in January 2024 I just bought a 2023 Tacoma Access Cab TRDOff Road base for $41,000 out the door after all taxes and fees here in Hawai’i (both trucks were at Servco Honolulu)
Your videos are always excellent. I look forward to the extensive level of detail that you go into. Keep up the great work!
Honda Pilot - Why can't they move the push button transmission controls near the steering wheel. I would so appreciate having more storage space between driver and passenger. bring back the column shifters.
We were recently in the market for a 3 row crossover. The new Pilot was high on my list until I saw the push buttons. 🤮
The Ranger Raptor could be a bargain if you can get a dealer to sell at sticker. Seeing serious mark-ups on them by dealers. Would love one, but refuse to pay.
Stellantis isn't there
They couldn't afford the entry fee.
They had nothing new to show.
Great video! The Toyotas are on target with most all features EXCEPT the lack of auto 4WD and a/c vents in the back.
Don’t give in, tell them you lost a customer for life.
@czwhat328 ehh, it's where the market is. I'm not butt hurt and they know that there are thousands of people willing to pay over MSRP. Dealers and manufacturers aren't the problem. The average person is.
@@ryansheard8092 Same thing with real estate.🍺🍺
Is that where they got theirs? I don’t remember
Marine Corps ordered 250 RG31 Mk5E mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP). it's $227.4m for 250. so $909,600.
I don’t understand they didn’t do a Santafe PHEV or EV when they rebooted it. It has a lot of features you don’t find in Chevy or Ford comparables
What about the Ram?
For future reference, whenever you hit a location with loud background music, mute that segment of the video in editing and add voice-over.
Note the reason for the audio change with a quick explanation and never have to skip over something important again.
Tow hooks as the lowest point on departure angle?
And whats up with raptors still running those tiny rear shock frame brackets?
The ranger raptor isn’t a bargain. Because the dealer will add 15k, like they add 5-6k to the mavericks. And then it’s 70k like every other full size truck you showed.
Show us the nissan versa, or a chevette. Those sre bound to fit my budget
If only Hawai’i did that but they don’t.
The Ridgeline is insanely overpriced for what it is. It's the reason why I ended up with a Maverick, and I owned an Accord before this...
Great video gentlemen!
I'll stick with my 2003 GMC Sierra Denali Quadrasteer, most comfortable seats ever. It will also out maneuver all trucks still at 20 years old. If you can find one, you guys need to test drive and showcase it.
Dear TFL talk do you have an in depth video out there about the base Nisan Frontier RWD that can tow 6690 pounds? Its starts at 30K is it reliable?
I’ve owned 2 Mavericks so far (hybrid & ecoboost) and loved them.
That 20k to 25k base price is going to be a deal breaker for many people. Also that old 20k price was for a hybrid, and Ford is now charging extra for that.
Idk, Ford went up way too fast on the Mavericks in my opinion for not much change in the truck.
They saw that dealers were making a whole bunch of money on them, especially on the low end.
That is why they raised pricing.
I was told when I ordered my maverick that if I placed an order that the price was msrp with no markup. I ordered and that was the price when it showed up. If the dealer orders the truck for their stock, then the dealer owns it and can charge any amount they wish.
Imagine building a basic 4x4 truck without all the crap and selling it for $30k OTD. Most of these new trucks will never sell.
Have you Sean the mr st I forget but it’s on the tube for across the way I mean country this model would sell like crazy
Where is the bathroom in those trucks? No Shower or lawn edition either?
Toyota screwed the pooch with this 🆕 Tacoma everything from pricing to making you have a hybrid that's basically unreparable if you're on a trail.. just a flawed vehicle! Nice video guys as always
Trend is due to the EU and other countries/states like California pushing for EVs in the future 👎🏼
I did the exact same thing. I really like my ‘23 WildTrak. And the seats are more comfortable than my ‘21 Wrangler to boot lol.
Totally agree on the Back to the Future movie car thing. So many clean DeLoreans ruined.
$55k for a Ford Ranger! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Damn those dudes at Ford must go through a ton of clown makeup each day!
Yeah what a joke these guys think it's a deal🤡
Excellent overview of the state of the art and comparison of trucks in America. I just bought a 2023 F150 XLT with the 3.5l Ecoboost. I love it. I also have a Tacoma. I hate the Tesla truck. It is an abomination. I simply can’t believe that truck is actually better for the environment overall.
No EV is better for the environment as the mining of battery elements is toxic and most power lands are coal fired
Conclusion:Ford Maverick Tremor is the best deal.
🎉 I purchased a 2023 and it's amazing.
I’m ready for my zr2 to arrive!
Does the 2024 Ford Ranger offer a Tremor version/package?
It does not.
I do wish that smaller trucks like the S-10, Sonoma, Dakota, etc. are made. Make them smaller than the Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado/Canyon, and Ranger.
That way, it's much cheaper, easier to maneuver, and more fuel efficient.
I was watching Pick Up Plus. When who comes strolling by? TFL ❤
Those rims are from the 1990’s Hardbody pickups and Pathfinders.
You guys should talk more about the ford xl . I would like to see a show on base modle trucks off road capabilaty
I'm really a BIG fan of the Ranger Raptor. It's such a nice looking truck, in my opinion.
When are you guys reviewing the new 24 ranger?
Awesome walkaround fellas
I think the Canyon Elevation is a deal when you consider it’s an upgraded Trailboss.
Love this Video esencial for the Consumers Love GUYS NICE CONTENT AND VALUE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It is hilarious to watch all the CONTENT CREATORS colliding into each other on the Auto Show floor!!!!
sticking with my 07 Tundra 4x4
245k runs like a champ if I ever need an engine I can pick up one with 70k for 4k down the hill.
I would love for you guys to make a video about your personal trucks, why you bought them, how you like them, etc.
The MAVERICK looked to be ROOMIER IN THE BACK, than the mid size trucks, lol !!
Trucks are eye watering stupid expensive!! Most being way over engineered has driven up complexity and lowered vehicle quality for longevity.
I really like these auto show videos...
Those are old school Pathfinder wheels, refreshed on that new Nissan Frontier..
If you want to talk about "bargains", why not compare buying a midsized truck with no options, and doing an after-market lift, tires, wheels, shocks, versus a factory upgrade. Which is better and cheaper? Do you lose all factory warranty if you go off-roading?
