Great video and conversation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Any conversation with Motoman is epic! There is no one better, in khaki pants, at explaining the WHY of cars than Motoman! 😊
Evs are NOT the future....sorry, folks.
It's just another forced communist-influenced agenda of the Democrat Propaganda Party of Pravda to control the people with disinformation of deceptions.
Dont fall for it! For Real.
@@TFLtalk add Mazda to the long term car list up there with Toyota and Honda
If you are a white man.
Stop with the IPad dashes. So ugly. Screens need to be incorporated into the dash, not fixed onto it.
Absolutely agree! Looks like an afterthought..... Hey let's stick an ipad on the dash!
But that is more expensive and they are on the cheap, like BMW just slap a gigantic Samsung on the dash and take away the pricey buttons. Get rid of as much leather as you can and replace it with super cheap plastic fabric known as fake suede.
That’s why I love my integrated 11.6 “ infotainment on a Subaru. Also the fact Outbacks and Crosstreks are a jacked up station wagon.
And the iPad stuck to the back of the seats 😢😢😢
Roman left Motoman hanging with that handshake…legend has it that Motoman still has his hand out
Make a few decent vehicles under $25k. Like a small 2 door pickup. Ford came close but didn't actually make any of the cheap pickups they said they would. Most can't afford all that technology they are putting in vehicles.
Not just "can't afford", "don't want." I don't want any of it. I want a simple ICE vehicle, priced right.
Like he said, it's 56 degrees in Chicago, February 10, think it's a good investment to drop all this money into these over complicated beasts? Lotta change coming in the next ten years
Lamborghini vs Porsche = apples v oranges
Afford… well, I would rather spend my money on other things. Seriously, what do I do with an entertainment system for thousands … I am driving…
They never build the car for the consumer. They build what they think they want then raise prices at dealerships.
Santa Fe looks like the old Ford Flex more than a Land Rover.
I seen that as well!
That's what brought me here. I am very interested to watch the sales of this one.
I like the room in mine. And the 20-24 mpg.
Andre great discipline for not jumping into the conversation!❤💪🏽💯
Andre is one of my favorite presenters
One thing that stands out regardless of the vehicles being ICE, HYBRID, PHEV, or whatever is the fact that vehicle prices are climbing year to year at a rapid rate.
Its really simple for Toyota on that front. One of Toyota's highest priorities is reliability. Per Consumer Reports, reliability by segment from best to worst are HEV > ICE > BEV > PHEV. So naturally, they said we are going to focus on the highest reliability technology available, which are hybrids and traditional ICE vehicles. Anything else is just compliance effort for things the government is forcing them to do.
Too Expensive
Where is Toyota truck to compare with Ford Mavericks price.? Greedy is what Toyota is all about.Look at the new Tocoma outrageous priced!
That new Hyundai Santa Fe is one good looking vehicle. However, Hyundai/KIA has got to convince me (and others I'm sure) that they can actually build a good engine before I would buy one.
They can build a good engines, but they have issues with quality control from their suppliers. I still put the Ulsan plant over the Montgomery, West Point, Monterrey plants.
I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole.
I have had the Santa Fe before and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one
@@JT-fq2bl H/K is going all electric before any legacy manufacturer. No need to invest in engines anymore.
I’ll wait for the electric version. They make excellent EVs
The problem with American car manufacturers. Rather making great affordable sports cars. They rather make unattainable Halo cars
Pretty much. Most guys I know just care about what it looks like, engine options, whether or not a manual is available, tunability, price, and if it can smoke both the rear tires. Nothing else.
The exception to this is the Chevrolet Corvette. Hits all of the numbers, competes with Euro and are affordable.

@@texttwenty-nine1627 "most guys" you know is not most people, most people want a transportation vehicle, and let's be honest here most Americans drives cars, they shouldn't be driving because they can barely make the "payments"
I believe that most automakers foreign and domestic here in the United States 🇺🇸 are not producing enough affordable vehicles. Honda Nissan Toyota Mazda Volvo BMW Audi Mercedes Benz have all abandoned making affordable vehicles in their respective classes of automobiles.
Every time I hear MotoMan pronounce foreign car names, I think of George Costanza’s girlfriend saying “Papier Mache”
The only thing I do not like about the 2024 Prius is how hard it is to get into. I am 6 feet tall and 54 years old. That is why I think older people like the RAV4. Easier to get into.
That's why I plan on never buying a hatchback or sedan again. Once I'm done with my Honda Fit I'm done.
I'm only 5'9 and 150 lbs and very athletic but getting into these things is annoying.
I attended the Chicago auto show 6 years ago… it was packed… vehicles everywhere across the hall… both sides to the gills… exotic terrain area for off road… huge displays..
the 2024 show looks like something at the local mall with some local auto dealers… with some corporate booths added in.
Enjoyed the video! Let each other talk though! Thx
I suspect they are there before the general audience is allowed in 🤷♂

Yeah, 2020 was the last year a majority of manufacturers were there,
Online shopping! The future is happening, minimal time or interest in brick & mortar stores, dealerships or car shows, too expensive for vendors or attendees. Like CES, one big one per year.

the 5 series is "Fugly"!! Wish Chris Bangle was back
Golden era was 1985 through 2005 in my opinion.
It's unique for sure but I don't think it's as ugly as Mercedes.
BMW was actually early but realized with the i3 that the EV future might not be so easy. Don’t cost them like GM or VW to go slow. Toyota was paying attention….
That taller Crown is really like the old Venza, which was just a raised Camry wagon. It was marketed to a slightly older crowd, and rightly so as it had great visibility and very easy to get in and out of. I had a 2016 model with the V6 and all wheel drive, and for taking my parents around was very easy for them to get in and out of that vehicle and comfortable. Plus, the backseat was huge since it was really only a two row vehicle. A very practical vehicle. No reason I got rid of it was to get a 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road (Canada).
I had an original venza and it was such a great car. I regret trading it in.
Many thanks for this walking tour of manufacturing in 2024. Akio Toyoda has shown great leadership and foresight. The company has money for real product development after avoiding the EV trap
Aiko is dumping hundreds of millions into hydrogen. He has lied dozens of times about them having solid state batteries just about ready to go. Akio has watched sales in China tank.

Might I suggest that when using the DJI mics in a high interference areas that you record directly into the transmitters then add the dialogue in post? The crackling at times was almost unbearable.

Another reason not to buy a CadiLACK.
I thought that the Honda Pilot boxy version dating back to 2008 was the most versatile, squared off practical SUV and not the RR that was the great platform other car manufacturers copied. To most of our friends we felt Honda made the wrong choice by turning the pilot into a minivan without sliding doors and made it look like so many other cars. The boxy HP was very affordable, looked like a cool off road vehicle - even though it wasn’t a true off-roader and its engine was rock solid. Had it for 12 years. Zero issues except the paint peeled off in sheets. The new Land Cruiser/GX makes me feel like I can have my Pilot back except it is more powerful, more reliable, and more utilitarian. Awesome.
The new pilot is more boxy and the best looking pilot by far imo.
Tesla model Y is also easy in/out, AND at 6'6" I can tell you it has the most headroom (and sightline to match) of any sedan/hatchback...and midsize SUV for that matter.
It sure has something going for it. Best selling car of any type in any market on earth last year. And they can sell them at crazy margins. Nobody else is doing that. They're doing something right.

Trivia: The iconic sports car Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show on February 10, 1989.
It was the Honda NSX in the same year right?
MX-5 debut - February 1989
Love the banter and discussion between these two. They should do this more often.
Really enjoy the Auto Show walk around while in conversation. It’s like a mobile podcast, great Video!
Just discovered your channel as it was recommended from something else I was watching. I watch a lot of car UA-cam channels, even though I have slowed down a little since I recently bought a new SUV. But there is something a little unique about your style that I like. I look forward to exploring more of your non-show stuff!
Awesome video guys. Thanks to the guys behind the camera too. Throughly enjoyed this. You take your audience to places we can’t go.
thank God for skeptical journalists braving the Midwest. Thanks for being interesting
Problem with having a shared platform like bmw is the compromise, like having a transmission tunnel in a ev just feels wrong, also the hood is too big since its supposed to house a big v8, another thing is no frunk or a very tiny frunk since the packaging is bad since its not designed as an ev. You realy should have different platforms but i get that its expensive.
3 years owning a Beemer and I still have trouble figuring out the wiper and heater controls
32:03 the way that plug just dangles up against the paint 😂 classy
A good tour. There were a few sports cars. Most likley talking about the Mazda MX-5 Miata in 1989. There was the 1989 Acura NS-X Concept, 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 , SHO time in Chicago and my favorite 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning.
I went to the Chicago auto show this year. Was disappointed at lot of manufacturers were missing. (ie. Jeep, Dodge, Porsche, Lincoln etc)
I agree total waste of money. Felt Like I was at a mall auto show
I looked at the floor plan like I do every year before attending. I saw it, 2024 and decided it was not worth the money or my time. Glad I went last year though... I had a great time!
Great conversations, video and walk through the show floor! Thank you 🙏
I want a new Land Cruiser sooooooooo bad.
Same, and a new Tacoma lol
Let’s all hope the new 4Runner looks good, built on Tnga-f with the 2.4t w/o hybrid and comes in at 45k….
@@tdub25I expect it will mirror the Tacoma drivetrain. Would be great for the 4Runner to move down market price wise, but that is a pipe dream.
Absolutely love it.
Why?
My mom bought a 2012 Sonata at my suggestion, it is still going strong today. I am now the owner. Her new car is a 2022 Kia Telluride SX Prestige, paid for the minute she drove it off the lot. Toyota and Honda are not the only game in town. We have owned both before.
12:47 absolutely love the Ford, I think Roman doesn’t get the passion in a company that makes the mustang and the divisions within the company. I mean Chevy makes the Corvette and doesn’t do a great job with the rest of thier cars or trucks frankly other than the Duramax.
The Crown Signia is a very nice looking wagon with great tech/safety features, abundant cargo space and has one of the best hybrid engines returning very good gas mileage. It may sit too low for your average American SUV buyer but I believe there is a market for a very stylish and capable wagon to replace the Venza.
Fun to see you guys together, but waaay too much focus on electrics that no one wants to buy.
The government is going to force you to buy one by 2035 lol.
@@Jev55 "The government is going to force you to buy one by 2035" -- In their dreams, right after AOC becomes the President.
I guess that is why the Tesla model Y is the best selling automobile in the world, including gas cars.
@@SkyRiver1 Tesla is an exception to the rule. It is a toy car and toy brand, something of a cult and something to show to your friends in high tech and certain other areas. The rest of the EV market is curled up in the corner begging for mercy. And don't quote me nonsense about how many BEVs sold worldwide in 2023 because that number shown about on EV cult sites conveniently includes hybrids.
No Toyota Stout or whatever the new small pickup is called?
Right, I want one… was expecting to see it here.
One thing i wish all hosts, that are walking thru an Auto Show is a have a drop down menu, that shows when they are talking about every manufacturer. Then i could pick the one car I,m interested in seeing what they have that's new. I have watched several, & did not see what i wanted to look at. I have watched several of your reviews, which i like. I,m more of a reviewer Than a walk about.
This was a great overview of the industry. Thanks guys! Oh, and the offroad Hurrican/911 are both the best road going versions. You don't have to worry about pot holes, the suspension is subtle, they are just great.
US consumers are getting smarter, going to value longevity, which makes sense with increased cost to buy and cost to own of modern new cars. That’s why Toyota is in such high demand while the production is at record hight.
Not true look at Ford Maverick a inexpensive ride!
The hybrid system makes no sense in those large off-road vehicles I don’t think it gives enough difference in fuel savings, which is the bottom line, not just to say look it’s a hybrid, back it up with significant fuel economy numbers.
Toyota will, they only use the hybrid system that actually saves fuel.
You guys are great to watch together 🤠
Love this collab love the respect these two have for each other and the knowledge these two have, great flow through video, keep it up Roman! Great video TFL

I totally agree with you about Tesla. If the Model 3 was a "normal" car without all the gimmicks (if it had a gauge cluster, turn signal and wiper stocks, etc.) it would've sold even more than it has. I like the Model 3, but I could never own one because of the center screen and "minimalistic" design. I call it cheaping out. They put everything on the screen because it's easier and cheaper to do.
Agree, and I'm a Tesla fan. Tesla is going to have to figure it out soon, because the customers have already figured it out. Minimalism is a sales pitch that saves the company money and fools the fanboys. But it doesn't fool the general public. Put the turn signal stalks back, give us some controls that we can use that aren't on the screen, so our hands can find our way to them while we watch the road.
I'm just surprised that BMW didn't beat them to removing turn signal stalk 😂
Totally agree. The steering wheel felt like rubbish as well. I went ICE again and the buttons are really quick and easy to use and the heads up display is great. My wife took one look at the Y and said 'no way'. Suited me because it had no spare, looked and felt cheap inside and I wasn't impressed with the exterior finish. I do not think I'll go EV until some advancement in the battery technology (probably Solid State) because I really don't want to plan trips around charging.
You are not the future. We now have generations of buyers who grew up with one (phone) screen, no buttons or knobs, for phone, text, camera, videos, news, entertainment and shopping (even for a car). So they don't care about stalks and knobs. They care about cost, safety, capabilities, and they want no hassles of dealerships, maintenance and gas stations. They need smart phones and expect smart cars, that are fun and relaxing and do most of the driving. And the best selling car in the world last year was the best value for that.
@@alancapes5644 are they driving their iPhones 80 mph down the freeway, or 30 mph down a bumpy dirt road and trying to find the right menu to get to the turn signal icon while the car and screen are moving in ways that are not sympathetic to my hand? Fantasize all you want about the future, but it will hopefully be driven by practicality, and by what works rather than by abstract notions about how fun it would be if all controls were on a screen.
Audio was BAD. Not sure what wireless receiver you’re using but it sounds like every time they weren’t facing it, the audio distorted. Also for monetization purposes if they mention an old video y’all should drop a link. Great content as always! Can’t wait until yall get some of these vehicles to test.
Audio was totally fine for me.
I couldn't help but notice... Is Toyota bringing back the X-Runner?!
Probably looking at the trailhunter, coming to the Tacoma and Tundra this year.
As far as I'm aware they recently made a new X-Runner Concept just to see the reception from the public and haven't decided to actually build it.
No, the X-Runner is the lowered blue car that's near it. They gave it very little attention because it's not off road. Guess what- we don't all need off road here in the midwest. Bring it!@@Le_Royaliste_Perlino
I absolutely love the new Land Cruiser myself, and am more into go-anywhere than go-fast these days, so Moto Man I'm with you - but I do have to say a heartfelt "WOW" to the new Countach. I always liked the look of the original Countach better *without* the added wing, so the fact that the active wing on the new one matches the body shape and "hides" when it's laid flat is the best of both worlds.

Fords biggest mistake was giving up on the Rivian platform and branding a Ford Body on it.
I enjoyed this video. I appreciate the commentary and non-political look at EVs. It seems like everything has gotten crazy in this conversation with the anti EV crowd fighting with the pro EV crowd. I love my EVs(I have a Lightning and a Bolt), but realize there are issues with charging and public infrastructure. There is a place for gas vehicles, at least for the next several years but the transition is happening and will continue happening(perhaps at a slower pace than expected). We will not go back to 100% gas, but we won't switch to EVs overnight. Those two viewpoints are all I see in the media right now.
You have presented a very balanced, logical, insightful perspective. Thank you!
The honda prolog looks less shitty than some platform sharing cars. And better than the EQS suv, that thing is butt ugly.
The mustang GTD is the exact right move. It’s not about making it a statement for the mustang brand. The mustang EV tainted the muscle car brand of the mustang, which if EV’s had of worked wasn’t a bad move, but obviously it didn’t work, the EV market didn’t gain traction as hoped, so the GTD is to reinvigorate the brand as a “powerhouse brand”. It is to prove the mustang still has “balls”.

To answer the trivia question: was it the Acura NSX in 1989?
I've had my f150 2.7l ecobeast for little over 8 years and has 150k miles, Honda and Toyota aren't the only answer. So tired of hearing Toyota reliability when they have failures all the time.
Have had my tundra for 20 years. It's only cost $230 outside of normal maintenance
Awesome job! Extremely informative post. The ELectric Vehicle versus the Hybrid and gas powered topic is very much a serious issue. We are not buying EV's until the grid supports it.
Loved yr talk and analysis too 👏✌️. Thnx for sharing. 🙏
Nissan really was the first to introduce a commercially successful small spacious family car - the Leaf - the #1 electric car in the world. The problem, besides battery issues, they did not upgrade or renovate since its creation. This could have been a game changer for them. You saw an Aria on the road?
The electric car industry is in the 30s with respect to infrastructure. It's so stupid to even compare the two. Give the EV market another 100 years like the petroleum industry has had. It's such an ignorant stance to expect the electric infrastructure to be at a comparable level.
Hydrogen is a better alternative but too many politicians own EV stocks to invest in different alternative energy sources.
Bringing back the Landcruiser to compete with the Defender was a must. The PHEV still get tax credits and they are cheaper to manufacture than EV. I still believe the electric motor is an environmentally urban necessity. City pollution account’s for a lot of cancer and costs money to all tax payers. Country pickup resisters should welcome EV’s not trash them.
These two have so much knowledge and so much to offer yet take banter much too far. Even Andre proved it by taking the camera away from it to show what the viewer really wanted to see even if it meant having the camera going off topic and taking those guys out of frame. Mad respect for Andre. He knows what we want to see. Also, drink a shot of liquor every time "I would argue" was spoken and see how long you last lol. That said, a little banter can be entertaining, but these guys were exhausting and downright annoying at times.
Great video. Toyota seems to be well positioned with their electric strategy and new models. Crazy that they were getting laughed at last year about the lack of electrics, and now reality has set in and they're being revered for their foresight in hybrids. Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Prius, Sequoia are all big wins. Now if they'd only get us an updated 4Runner. Mine is 27 years old and still going strong. Lexus are great vehicles but designs become stale and there's no excitement in the brand. The GX is a start (though needs help with fuel economy) and TX gets us three usable rows (finally) but the other models need help to appeal to non-senior citizens. BMWs have great design but lack the Japanese quality and are expensive to maintain. The X5 is one of the most compelling SUVs on the market today, and I agree on the platform strategy and that there are too many models. . GM vehicles, apart from the Corvette, blur together and seem to be destined for rental car lots. How many people walk into a GM dealer excited about a model? $175k for a Cadillac SUV is laughable. Ford similarly likes making junk no one wants and not enough of the models that people do want (Maverick, Bronco). Both Ford & GM's all-in approach to electricification was a huge mistake. VW is irrelevant these days. Hyundai and Kia are on the move, though designs are hit or miss. Tesla's interiors still look cheap and desolate, with questionable build quality and safety concerns over removal of the signal stalks. Some interesting models out there for sure.
loving the counter push against EVs.... You guys nailed it.. hybrids are the way and toyota got it right...

@@godofdunTrue, that is one of the weird things for this one since it has the shape of a liftback and the weird twon tone layout (the single tone actually looks far better IMHO).
Weirdly in Japan this Crown is dubbed the "Crown Crossover", while the other model called "Crown Sport" is the one that is actually a Crossover.

Excellent. It’s like Oscar and Felix of the car world. I’ve learned so much about cars from these videos. The most shocking part was how fast the car works is moving, they were talking and literally passed up the C8’s, 😂 the C8 is like the grandfather of the new post 2021 design and it’s only 4 years old. It’s very scary how fast the car industry is moving. So many models. I hope they keep the combustion engines as the grid will not be able to handle all EV’s and your helping China with more EV’s.

The Prius is still the only car that if you invest the money it saves on BRAKES and fuel, the money buys you a new car every 15 years.
My friend has a powerwall that automatically does arbitrage with the local electric grid. His typical electric bill is from nothing to less than a dollar a month. He charges his Tesla at night and it costs him nothing. No gas, no oil changes, no brake replacement, no tuneups. Virtually drives for free. Stick that up your exhaust pipe and inhale.
@@SkyRiver1Common sense tells that he’s not really driving for free. He’s paying for it with the higher up front cost. In the long run, you’re not saving any money, the batteries don’t last forever, lol.
Toyotas Prius is the moneymaker if you're a cab driver. I've seen so many with over 600 thousand miles. Amazing
I still don't understand the haste to go all EV. Most state's grids still aren't capable for everyone going EV. There isn't enough Lithium on the planet for all EV personal transportation. What happens during emergency evacuations? Everyone trying to charge at the same time (again, the grid can't handle it) and if it goes down or fire takes it down, how do you evaluate far enough? What about flood or hurricane evacuation? Have you seen what happens to EV's in high water? What about disposing used lithium batteries because they can't be just thrown in the land fill.
I'm not apposed to new technology especially if it's better for the planet, but not if it just currently looks good on paper. We still have many coal powered electric plants- how much coal will they have to burn to accommodate all EV's? What about rolling blackouts needed to keep up with power demands? Do I have to choose between heating my house or charging my car? How is the government going to tax the electric power because they will find a way to replace all the gas tax they currently charge. Does nobody wonder about these things? Why am I worried? Because no one is asking the right questions, and if you don't live in an area where quick evacuation is a necessity, you probably don't care.
Thank you for this update. I'm somewhat old. Been driving since since 1964, worked at dealerships, and love going to car shows. This, and local Utah car shows, was very disappointing to me. I personally don't want an electrified vehicle of any kind at this time. I guess, with the way government is pushing automakers away from combustible engines, I won't be buying new vehicles ever again. I'm sure there are many in my baby-boomer generation that feel the same.
I am older than you & bought a Tesla M3 & won’t be going back to gasoline vehicles unless maybe a truck. My M3 has been the realiable , very low cost maintenance & brakes not changed & has 93K miles. No more gas fumes, leaking oil pans & radiator spills.
@@edornelas8275 That's great for you. Choices is what we should have. Everyone drives differently and their needs will determine what they want/need. We shouldn't be forced one way or the other.
@@reneleroux7669 Exactly. People should have a choice. It's our money and we should be able to spend it on what we want.

As a young guy, I'm with you. There's no way I'm ever going electric, unless they can vastly improve reliability, and range.
Spent 6 hours at the Chicago Auto Show today. EV demo drives were popular (Kia EV6 & EV9, Tesla Model Y & S, BMW i5 & i7, Lucid Air, Cadillac Lyriq, VW and more. As for other vehicles at the show, I liked the design of the Acura zdx, Toyota Crown Signia, Corvette. And then there was the supercar section to make almost everyone there feel poor. 💰
I love super cars, But Fast sexy truck is where it's at. The Ford F350 or F250 with the HO 6.7l Diesel has it all, minus the DFE high usage. Rugged and tough for the Rockies fun, and great for the long distance and local driver. One day I will find a way to own one!!! the $100,000 has me at a standstill, I cannot afford 2 mortgages. As for the super car...............I'll never be even have enough money to look at one. Keep up the great videos!!!!!!
Walked right by the Army booth 😢. That would have been a cool few minutes.
17:40 being from Chicago, I cannot accept how people not from Chicago call non-deep dish pizza a "pie". Chicago deep dish is literally a cheese pie. If they want to keep calling it a pie, then get on our level. Enjoying the content and collabs.
My 1997 Maroon land cruiser is almost all mechanical, 411,000 miles and burns 1.5 quarts of oil every 5,000 miles. Original engine and transmission!!!!
I have an 04 4Runner Sport with the 4.7-liter V-8. It still looks and runs like new, never burns any oil and has never had any unscheduled maintenance. However, it has a mere 225,000 miles on it, so it's barely broken in.
Toyota was right by a long shot. I literally do not know anyone shopping for an BEV. Then again I live in a rural area.
Excellent show gentlemen, all three of you worked together to produce an informative entertaining show.
The GTD is a homologation car for endurance racing. It has nothing to do with the mainstream automotive industry.
Let's make this an annual episode. "State of the Car Industry," while touring an auto show w/TFL and MotoMan
