I used to but they slowed the shutter too much. Since I have a dedicated camera angle for the PFD/MFD, I decided to live with it in favor of everything else being properly exposed.
Thanks for all the great videos. Just wanted to get your thoughts concerning the M350. Have they made some worthwhile changes with the M350 and could you also comment on the MT 4 bladed propeller that can be fitted to the Meridian/M350. Thanks
Hi Colin. My personal opinion is that when it comes to cost, performance, and efficiency, nothing beats the '84-'88 PA46's. I do like the M350's but given a choice, I would opt for the early Continental powered Malibu. Unlike the 3 blade props, I have observed a significant improvement in the MT 4 blade over the original 2 blade. It's noticeably quieter.
@@MalibuFlyer Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. Having seen you flying in some pretty big storms, I would imagine the weather radar on the M350 would have helped? I have heard lots of speculation that the Continental engines on the early Malibu's were a little tempramental? Your opinion? Are the new Lycoming engines not more reliable?
@@colinbryant8969 The ability to see where the weather is as opposed to where it was is always best. I can only speak to my personal experience with Continental which was positive, if managed properly. If you agree that the two things that kill engines are heat and pressure, then the ability to operate lean of peak at ~15gph with CHT's well below 380 is a benefit. With properly managed mixtures, there is no reason for some of the valve guide issues that some experienced with Continental.
@@MalibuFlyer I agree with you, if published limitations are complied with then most engines should be fine. Would like to see you fly a M350, perhaps Piper can arrange a flight for you
I watched the whole thing, full screen, before reading the comments. Not a surprise, some criticism about doing it in a single with the “what if the engine fails” warning. My concern is the RVR, even if the airplane is operating flawlessly. 600’ viz at 50, 60, 70 knots? I wouldn’t drive a car at 70mph in visibility like that. I my area I would worry about a deer standing on the centerline, or a darting coyote. The tower can’t see the runway either, so who knows? Low ceiling - in “in the soup” before the gear is completely tucked up, OK. The leeway under part 91. But when the wheels are on the ground, I want visibility to be at least equal to my realistic stopping distance. Love your channel. Overall, pretty good stuff. Thanks for sharing your flying with us.
Nope the best bbq in Texas is in Stephenville at the Hard Eight. I’ll give others a chance but haven’t found any that come close to them. Great videos.
I love BBQ also but would think twice before DRIVING in that pea soup much less flying (with family) for some. That's why they make home bbq's. (Get some good apple or cherry wood.)

Speaking from the perspective of a professional pilot who takes his responsibility to his passengers as PIC very very seriously. I hate to be “that guy” but doing this kind of flying an a light single is going to get someone killed eventually. Mechanical failures and pilot errors are not a matter of if, but when. Therefore, for every flight we need to be mindful of our primary, contingency, and emergency plan. Doesn’t seem like there are any account for anything going other than perfectly. Remember as a pilot on command each of the lives of the people on that airplane are YOUR responsibility. Maybe I am missing something as to what your backup plan/plans for the flight, especially the takeoff, were if something went wrong. I think there is definitely potential for a good conversation about ADM and Risk Management that can benefit anyone who watches this video and cares to read our comments. Looking forward to your response. Respectfully, Riley
Did you manually switch from GPS1 to VLOC, or does your equipment switch it automatically? Good video. If you’re ever a little west of CLL, GIVE cooper’s BBQ a try in Llano.
Possible to hit a deer or other obstacle in fog, tower won't know what's there to give any guidance, happened to my friends Mooney 201 at night, expensive repairs. Agree with limited options available if needed to return. Artificial deadline created here, I would wait a little bit for the fog to burn off or thin out, the food can wait a few hours.
Nice video, cool to be able to see the prop wash in action. What is the minimum RVR you are allowed to depart in? I had visions of the fire being at the BBQ place!
Nope. No way. What if you would have an engine problem on the climb out? Bad decision. Your kids, friends, and the public. I had a hangar neighbor do something similar. No one survived.
I have eaten BBQ in at least 8 states that claim the best BBQ. All of them are correct - cause the best is good Q that I am eating at the time. I was born in Texas, but the best pork ribs I have ever had were in Gainesville Fl not Memphis TN for example. Beef? Lots of Texas places make great BBQ but so does KC. Alabama and both Carolinas make great pork while I haven’t had much decent pork in TX. Had som Cubans in Miami cook a pig that was beyond belief. Had a couple of snouts in IL of all places. So it really is what you have available, not where you are. Just saying…..
That take off would not have been something that I would have been comfortable with. An engine failure, a blown tire. However, we each make our own decisions based on our experiences, and I'm not judging your decision. As to the prop condensation, thank you for sharing that with us. That was seriously cool and I've never seen that in flights before. That was amazing. So, was the BBQ the best on the planet? :)
Does "just because I can" always have to mean "yes I should do it"? What would have been the harm in waiting for maybe less than a hour so that fog could burn off? Yes it was legal and yes the plane was equipped for it, but my question is why was is so necessary to do it ??? Having all your friends looking to you to make the right decision. I'm not sure you made the right one here. Just my 2 cents.

In regards to the firetrucks at the field....its the largest training center in the Country for firefighters training to putout oil field fires. There is also a giant wind tunnel there at A&M that you walked right past on the way to ASTIN :)
As a retired airline pilot and former military and GA pilot I say that for any flight operation the risk must be outweighed by the reward. This was a Single Engine Takeoff into RVR at the minimums for most airlines. I hope that BBQ was good enough “to die for”.
That gs was crazy, guess that's why they don't want you coupled below 1050, but that would have gotten fun above 1050 if you hadn't been flying by hand. Nice video.
If you have an emergency in those conditions and need to return to the airport, what is the procedure?
Land straight ahead?
I always enjoy your videos & am happy to know about 1775! We’re based at KADS & are planning to fly to KCLL soon for lunch at Gate 12…it may fall into second place behind BBQ. Safe travels!

Nice departure.
When she said "proceed on course" and you were at that time runway heading, did you go direct to destination, or did you commence you departure procedure? Silly question I know...
A good question actually... "On course" in this case was direct to KCLL so that's what we did.
I continually rewatch Malibu Flyer, and learn learn something new each time. I heard a whisper about a Baron. Anything to that?
Thanks Bryan! Nothing to that one... We have been busy taking sailing lessons :)
Love all of your videos!! What happened to 444DT ? Hope to see you back again soon!!
They do advanced fire fighting training at the airport there
There is a fire fighting school just south of Easterwood field.
Awesome job guys! Great videos!
Just so you know he crashed that airplane the following week so you probably won't see more videos from him for a while sadly.
Nice, but below my minimums in a single. You have zero outs if you have an engine failure.
He appearently doesn't have the best judgment because he crashed N444DT the following week
@@dillonshrop4563 do you know the cause of the crash?
Good one!
RIP N444DT 😢😢
Do you use any Neutral Density filters on your inside camera's to help with out-of-phase appearances in the videos showing the PFD/MFD?
I used to but they slowed the shutter too much. Since I have a dedicated camera angle for the PFD/MFD, I decided to live with it in favor of everything else being properly exposed.
Big fan of yours. Read you had an incident/accident. Hope all is well, from the report looks like no injuries. God bless. what happened?
Been waiting for a while on a new video. Anything in the pipeline? Love your Malibu and your videos.
Hi David. I don't have the Malibu anymore so this is the last video...
@@MalibuFlyer did you step up to something else? I always found your videos very informative.
I love BBQ also but would think twice before DRIVING in that pea soup much less flying (with family) for some. That's why they make home bbq's. (Get some good apple or cherry wood.)
Did I just read that 444DT was involved in an accident earlier this month? Are you ok Corey? My prayers are with you! HEARTBROKEN!
Thank you Chuck. Do you mind if I ask where you read that?

Looking at upgrades to my Cessna 210, stumbled upon your channel for the Malibu. Great videos, editing is well done. What’s next on your horizon since the incident?
Thanks for stopping in. No plans for anything exciting at this point. I wish you the best on your upgrade project.

Hi Steve. Very encouraging message, I appreciate it! Thanks be to God, we are all well.
I think Chip would actually agree with you. 🙂
Hey Kory, glad to see in the other comments and replies that you are doing well. You may not be inclined to say, but if you are, any replacement or alternative plans in the works? If you didn't catch it in my comment a little while back, my Arrow is N446TT, so every time you get a radio call, I get ready to key the mic. 😂
Hello and thanks for the note. I don't have any plans for replacement at this point but you never know...
@@MalibuFlyer I understand. You aren’t NOT flying, are you? Your plans and motivations may be very different from my guesses and assumptions, but hopefully you are back on the horse in some form or another. If not, don’t give up!
On another note, you seem to have run into frustrations with your GoPro recording at times, as I have in my flights (no UA-cam this far, just for personal reference). Might I contact you via email to compare notes on that and your workarounds, if you have the time and energy?
Either way, hope to see you back in the sky again before long!
Sure. My gmail is knakatsu
How long until this guy is on the blancoliro channel?
Well he crashed a few days later so I'm surprised he wasn't on blancoliro
Respectfully,
Riley
Just because you can launch into 100ft ceilings doesn’t mean at all that you should
Did your aircraft go down? I see an accident report on December 1st, 2021. I hope everything is okay.
SNOW's is the best BBQ in Texas (meaning worldwide :) ), Smitty's Market is #2
Did you manually switch from GPS1 to VLOC, or does your equipment switch it automatically?
Good video. If you’re ever a little west of CLL, GIVE cooper’s BBQ a try in Llano.
Cooper's is trash. WAAAAAY too salty.
Sorry, it had to be said.
Was the glideslope issue on their end or yours? That would make it the second Garmin failure with your new panel if i recall?
It was on their end. The notes in the approach chart prohibit coupled approaches below 1050' due to the inconsistency in the GS.
Kory, can you provide any info in N444DT accident. Hope everyone is ok
Engine Failiure at departure - what do you do?
Pray!
I am slow but when did u leave Az.?
We moved to NW Arkansas last January.
Almost a year has passed since your last video. Whats going on?? I really enjoyed your channel.
Hi Matt. We don't have the Malibu anymore so have been a little starved for content. Hopefully, more coming soon...
That spiraling prop wash was also visible during your taxi, as you were approaching the runway. Cool effect.
That was scary, I have flown in pretty rough conditions but that was just pushing it. Godspeed
Nice video, cool to be able to see the prop wash in action. What is the minimum RVR you are allowed to depart in? I had visions of the fire being at the BBQ place!
No visibility minimums for an IFR departure under part 91.
@@jeffersonsteeflex2364 good idea to look at the Jepp vis takeoff
Nope. No way. What if you would have an engine problem on the climb out? Bad decision. Your kids, friends, and the public. I had a hangar neighbor do something similar. No one survived.

Lockhart, TX is the town for BBQ!
@@scottwheeler2494 So great to live in a free country!

@@nsti0802 No reason at all. The PA46 is a perfect platform for a trip like that.

Just my 2 cents.
hi. any news on 4DT? salvageable?. hope to see u back flying
