As somebody who's playing BM in M+ post season, I really need to say that Expel Harm with good crit chance should be in your rotation. With Keg Smash and Blackout Combo (which currently with Azerite traits is clearing your stagger with every use), you can effectively keep yourself alive, with really low stagger. It can be used kinda as active mitigation since you're constantly decreasing your stagger, whilst healing for a good chunk of health. So you're making yourself a favor and keeping yourself alive without much help from a healer and you have always room for more damage to stagger. You know you're doing this correctly, when you will have always one Purifying brew available as backup througouht the fight. Purifying brew should be always a priority over Celestial Brew since it does the same thing, but it's in your control (with the expel harm as heal).
Recently changed from Prot Pally to Brm Monk on populair demand from guild. Was looking all over for a comprehensive guide how the mechanics behind it work in detail. Found nothing quite satisfying untill stumbeling upon your vid. 3mins in and i already knew this was the video i was looking for. Insta sub and like. Thanks man!
It's a real blast in SL and Pre Patch!! I think I'll most likely put Part 2 out a week before launch, and it'll be a "light" pass over all cov's, legendaries etc and then I'll most likely make a part 3 when the "final" tune happens before Mythic raid release, which will hopefully have more longevity to it.
From the tests I have done: Spinning Crane Kick does NOT do more single target damage. It's a channel that stops your auto attack and therefore causes you to do LESS damage single target
I'm not sure if any tuning has occurred around and I'm certainly not saying Tiger Palm isn't worth pressing, it obviously comes with the brew benefit and if you're taking Eye of the Tiger you'll certainly be pressing it. But from a straight damage/number POV on SL Spinning Crane Kick WAS dealing more damage to 1 target than TP was. If this is no longer the case, cool beans. It's also why I still mentioned TP as a ST filler and SCK at 3+ in the rotation section.
Nice and comprehensive video. Touches all relevant points to play a brewmaster. I'd personally never give up on ring of peace it's kinda the signature spell to my brewmaster since it's utility is just overwhelming. Interrupt a cast? There you go. Make kiting easy for you? no problem. Knock enemies closer in for more efficient aoe? Hell yea... ROP is easily my most favorite spell :D
Thanks so much mate, I couldn't agree more mate, the utility from ROP is certainly giga AF in dungeons. It is nuts how shit threat is though at the moment over on BETA >< Hopefully it's something that gets fixed up and isn't an issue at launch!!
I created a fresh Monk on pre-patch day and leveled it to 50. I was very disappointed with the play, but after watching your video I think it might be better once SL launches. Thanks a lot for the in-depth review!
Cheers mate, I was pretty excited when it seemed Shadowlands would give us access back to playing alts, so meant re learning Brewmaster for myself as well! Best of luck on the Monk in Shadowlands! Though I can say, Prot Paladin is probably the most fun I think it's even been in SL lol
Thanks mate, appreciate that! Honestly probably not doing anything in this aspect outside DK and BrM. I play guardian and I enjoy the spec, but I probably don't understand enough of its history as a class nor the theory aspects behind it to make a really strong guide. (if that makes sense)
It's a tough one!! DW with Thunderfury kind of actives a special brew in my pants. The cloudsong is also pog, but there is just something about dem Thunderfurys!!
My main is Blood DK, as I have just always enjoyed everything about the class re it's playstyle, fantasy, look etc. Monk is certainly the "better tank" if you are choosing between BDK and BrM but in the end I always say just play what you enjoy the most.
Can you explain why Expel harm stacks up to roughy two, three stacks? I’m not sure if it stacks up more than three but that’s all Iv seen it go up too! I also want to know what causes it to stack?
Expel harm also can use your orbs for extra healing and damage by consuming the orbs you spawn via Gift of the Ox That's how you gain stacks, it's the orbs you spawn and haven't consumed.
I've only been back on the monk for a brief time now, but I 100% agree, it makes the rotation feel complete, and on that row I can't see anyone outside specific circumstances and high lvls at that picking anything else.
I kinda don't actually mind the toolkit spread on offer to tanks in Shadowlands tbh if they could fix the tuning for damage output I would actually be pretty happy with how things are. Just my opinion obviously, but I do enjoy going from DK and that style/kit to a Brewmaster and then to a Paladin for example.
Hey mate, all my strings are subperks via twitch. But I don't use ElvUI for much other than unit frames, action bars and party frames. The name plates are plater, the icons are all weakauras. So you could make this elvui set up for yourself very easily, if that is all you're chasing =)

I remember learning how to play BrM from a video you posted back in legion. Glad to see you are still posting and helping people learn their tanks.
Haha that's very awesome to hear =) Thanks mate!! Having a blast getting back into Brewmaster in Pre Patch and moving into SL!

Never thought I'd see a brewmaster guide here on Darckmech!!

You're too kind mate, thanks so much!!
Best guide out there even though this was done during beta, well done
I´ve been playing Brewmaster in BFA for last 6 months. Congrats on the video. Waiting on part 2.

actually the GOAT i was literally just making my decision to go monk in shadowlands hell yeah mate
Haha this is most awesome news =)

Yasss, been looking forward to this. Great vid, very helpful. Even enjoyed the blood DK one even though I’ve no interest in tanking on DK...
Haha thanks legend!!

Yooooo! I didn't know I needed this but I needed this!
I created a fresh Monk on pre-patch day and leveled it to 50. I was very disappointed with the play, but after watching your video I think it might be better once SL launches. Thanks a lot for the in-depth review!
Thank you for doing this. I am probably switching my tank from Paladin to Monk, and this is exactly the information I need.
Great work as usual, strong content. Just curious, is the druid (guardian) one coming out as well?
Thanks mate, appreciate that! Honestly probably not doing anything in this aspect outside DK and BrM. I play guardian and I enjoy the spec, but I probably don't understand enough of its history as a class nor the theory aspects behind it to make a really strong guide. (if that makes sense)
@@Darkmech knowing what a thorough guy you are i’d say it does make sense. Thanks again for the great stuff, big fan here. All the best.
Dude love your content as always! Please do Prot Warrior next! Much love bro
Thanks so much mate! I don't think prot warrior will be on the cards, sadly. Just DK and Monk atm
is the background transmog is for monk?
Sure is!
Great video Mate , Keep it up!
Thanks legend!! Hope streaming has been going well!!
Awesome info, thank you can't wait for the next episode of Brm.
PS: I'd prefer to show off with my Cloudsong Glaive instead of going for DW
It's a tough one!! DW with Thunderfury kind of actives a special brew in my pants. The cloudsong is also pog, but there is just something about dem Thunderfurys!!
Thanks for the awesome videos man, keep it up!
Thanks mate!!
What addon are you using to see those health bars like that? Also just made a brewmaster monk he's absolutely my new favorite character to play!
That's great mate, glad you're enjoying the brewmaster! My health bars are ElvUI and the nameplates are Plater.
Great class guides perfect , keep them up! +10
Thanks mate!!! Part 2 is inc soooooon
Hi @darkmech where can i find your brewmaster WAs? Tnx
Hey mate, all my UI/WA's are available to subs via twitch.
Hey Darkmech, what's up, it's Darkmack here and welcome back to another Cease and Desist
Give me a second while I go edit our chat from 2 years ago in discord.
When are you gonna put part 2 out?
Hoping to have it done the night before SL Launches just finished the DK one (and even then they still changed something today) zzzz
What is your main tank? I'm a VDH looking for an alt. Trying to decide between BDK and BrM.
My main is Blood DK, as I have just always enjoyed everything about the class re it's playstyle, fantasy, look etc. Monk is certainly the "better tank" if you are choosing between BDK and BrM but in the end I always say just play what you enjoy the most.

What are the addons that you use? Thanks
ElvUI and WA's for the most part mate.
I realy like you4 ui. Do you have a vid for it in the Pipeline?
Thanks mate, my UI is a sub perk on twitch but I will probably do a general video before SL launches.
I love all the tanks for variety and at my skill level of content they will be fine
100%
Quality content, as always
What is that two hand at the start of the video?! Looked down
Cloudsong Glaive, was the gold weapon mog rewards from completing gold challenge modes back in WOD.
Is brewmaster good in PvP
My monks stagger isn't magic damage included so I tried looking it up did they remove that part
It is, hover over your tool tip in your spell book where it says - Affects magical attacks at 35% effectiveness.
This has made me want to me a BrM Monk, thank you! Great vid, take my sub! 😊
Thanks so much mate appreciate that!!
Dad Dark in the house.
Yea yea yea!!
who better to explain brewmaster to somebody switching from DK to brew than darkmech!
Haha it's def a nice change from the DK! Hoping to play both of them a lot in SL, should be fun!! Hope you enjoy it mate
I want this ui I am currently leveling a brew monk and I really like this any chance you could send me a list of your addons and a pastebin link?
Hey mate, glad you like the UI =) all my strings for the addon are available as a subperk via twitch though sorry!
I really don't understand why RJW isn't baseline.
I've only been back on the monk for a brief time now, but I 100% agree, it makes the rotation feel complete, and on that row I can't see anyone outside specific circumstances and high lvls at that picking anything else.
@@Darkmech Exactly
Good guide Sir, my brewmaster is a fat panda though, the way it's meant to be played haha! :D
Haha respect!!
Gnomes are the correct answer
ITS TIME BOYSSSS LETS GOOO!!
Yehhhhhhhhh boisssssssss
Excelent work!!
Thanks mate!!
Very Informative! You might be tripping over words due to the odd Piercings you have ....
hahahaha maybe!!!
I'm that one brewmaster who refuse to conformity builds like RJW and RoP 😆
Now imagine if every tank had a similar toolkit. I know it would be homogenized but I’d probably be cool with it if it meant balance.
@@Darkmech I mean that’s fair. I just hope the tanks are close enough to where I don’t feel like I had rolled something else on any given fight.
can u plz share ur elviUI profile ?
Hey mate, all my strings are subperks via twitch. But I don't use ElvUI for much other than unit frames, action bars and party frames. The name plates are plater, the icons are all weakauras. So you could make this elvui set up for yourself very easily, if that is all you're chasing =)
Best vid ever. Plis give us your Weakaura for monk. :D
haha thanks mate! My UI/WA;s are a sub perk via twitch sorry man!
I watched this
I appreciate your eyes.
Came here from dota 2
