The greatest performnce ever done of this great work? "The Fairest Isle" is of an unearthly beauty.
Bravo a tutti

Thank you for your contribution, couldn't agree more - all best wishes from New Zealand.
Bellissimo, bravissimi.esecuzione, interpretazione, recitazione. Eccellente ❤
Great performance. Some of my favorite:
16:20 Brave souls, to be renown'd in story
35:27 How blest are the shepherds, how happy their lasses
53:28 What Power art thou, who from below
1:02:26 'Tis I that have warm'd ye
1:04:10 Sound a parley
1:15:55 Passacaglia: "How happy the lover"
1:28:22 Fourth Act Tune: Air
1:31:09 Trumpet tune
1:40:21 Fairest Isle
1:53:28 Saint George, the Patron of our Isle
It goes to show you don''t need a large modern orchestra to make beautiful and full orchestral sounds. Just some very talented musicians determined to put on a good show. Fascinating to see this "English" opera, we might still be thinking along the same lines if the Italians hadn't taken over via Handel. It makes theatrical sense to have spoken libretto, song and music all intertwined - before the use of surtitles it certainly aids comprehension of the story. . I suppose operetta in a lighter vein accomplishes much the same thing. Technically the recording is stunning, and our narrator delivers his lines to perfection and the setting is so pretty and apt. The singers all have flawless voices for this music and staging, light, flexible, and mellifluous and good diction not masked by an inappropriate effort at voice production - perhaps the microphones help a bit here. . I knew nothing of this music, nor much of Purcell, but what a sweet and heart-warming evening he's put on for us three hundred and thirty years later. Congratulations to all involved - perfection. ..
Gesanglich, Musikalisch und Schauspielerisch perfekt umgesetzt 👍👍👍
An absolutely astounding performance
God bless you all ! What a divine performance... ❤Love from here !❤
Brilliant. I hope this is on DVD. Thank you for posting.
1:17:00 so wonderful. I had tears in my eyes.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!
This is a truely superb presentation. Beautifully sung and interpreted.
The threads of Dido and Aeneus show through here and there.
The video and audio quality is superb.
Simon Robson's delivery was dynamic and of spectacular clarity.

I can´t stop watching and listening it at all.

Tis a most thrash metal of subject matter
Vivaldi, Bach and Purcell are the equal best of the baroque music.
and Handel???
great version !
21:22 I love this segment

J'adore ❤
Vraiment... 💙🤍❤

Not bad, but no one will ever perform this a swell as Klaus Nomi (RIP).
A thrilling performance from beginning to end.
