- Tool Fans...FEELIN' YOU!!! Alright so tonight we are diving into a band making their debut on the channel. I'm talking about the band called Tool, with a live performance of their song entitled "Sober". Now, obviously I've heard this song before, so I'll be reacting to the performance....not the song itself. I've heard great things about this performance...will it live up to the hype? Only one way to find out...

I have always love this specific performance because of the way Maynard mirrors the emotions of the song through his body language. You are the first person on UA-cam that I’ve seen make an actual commentary on that link instead of just immediately react with “Oh, his stage presence is weird!” My favorite thing about Tool is the feeling and experience you get from their music and live shows. Great video and insight!

I was there with ya! Matt Pinfield! I remember headbanger's ball...hell, Kennedy is still kicking around TV, and still sassy! I found the vid mesmerizing, like, "do these images mean something together?!" hahaha...like a story from another planet...

TOOL!!!! Hello my fellow TOOL Army brother and sisters! I LOVE the Reading cut of this! Maynard gives a show we have NOT seen since the likes of Iggy and the Stooges! EVERYONE else who has tried that has failed, Maynard just brought it, NEVER trying to imitate it!
The head and chest voice he has is amazing, when he blends, CHILLING!

As a performer I recognise that place, it where you are on stage, but in your hole being your back in that dark place where the lyrics come from. I use to be able to do that too in my art work and it a power place to be, to face your demons on stage. After you feel free of it all, so great to see you really get that. Rock on.
I gotta tell you...I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and enjoy all of your reactions to that band...but all of the other videos that I have watched with other bands have been spot on as well. The different things you hear than any other makes everything much more interesting. thank you Sir for being original and honest

Their music videos were really awesome. Not a fan of tool but I do like this song, and that was a awesome live performance of it.
Ive seen these guys 4 times. EVERY time was such an amazing and mesmerizing experience! If you have the ability to go see them, do yourself a favor and do it! You wont be sorry!
What more can you say? Maynard, Adam, Justin and Danny are BEASTS and MASTER musicians ALL around? It's hard to find a band in the last 25+ years who can complete with them... Everyone else who's come since just sounds like a rip off of TOOL even when they try NOT to be?
One CANNOT play Progressive Metal and NOT end up sounding like TOOL somewhere! lol

I was so excited when I finally got to see them- I wish I got to see the Maynard from this show, instead he performed behind a screen on the side of the stage for most of the show with acrobat above the stage- the band sounded great, but I get what you mean when you talk about stage presence and how it effects a show. This is a great performance and a good review.

Maynard's character IS a character, MEET "Jimmy"!!!! They also did a song titled "Jimmy", and a few songs outside "Jimmy" touch upon that character. Prison Sex touches upon the character of "Jimmy" as well.
"Jimmy" being a play off James, Maynard James :)

@@THEDavidHeretic Even when the 1st season of The Real World started infecting the channel is still wasn't so bad; still had mostly music. The new millennium really ruined it. I have to admit to watching TRW though. It was something no one had done before and was sort of interesting and then, like many things, it became a plagued "3 ring circus sideshow of freaks..." lol.

It does give the opportunity to mix in more of the "sour" into the "sweet", that IS David Heretic...hehehe...adding sour to the sweet gives you "tangy"...Doesn't the BOTTOM half of your grading scale feel a little...lonely...? "I wanna know what a two is...I want you to show me..."--Foreigner...mostly...

I disagree with your comment on the bassist playing. He is playing all 4 of the strings, it would be hard to do that with just the wrist. I have played this, not professionally or anything, but you need to move your hole arm to get all the strings to ring out like he is.
Maynard is a rock god. No question. Band=8.5, huh? Maynard should get as close to 10 as any singer ever could.

Check out a cover of this song by The O'Keefe Foundation. Performed by kids under the age of 18. The vocalist is a young girl Kala Rose. I believe she was about 14 or 15 at the time.Not sure. Its amazing. The O'Keefe Foundation has made a lot of covers by different artists the last few years. Such as Tool, Muse, Slipknot, Ozzy, Black Label Society, System of a Down, Rage Against The Machine and many others. They have their own UA-cam channel. Worth a look.

I get your "persona/song tie-in", but I disagree that his posture is a disadvantage to his projection. Try it! I see his posture as liberating to his breath! And I always have to trust a singer to adopt the posture most efficient for the moment's musical articulation...some of that efficiency is psychological, and unique to each performer. Joe Cocker springs to mind...

How many vocalists have quit after seeing this video?
My question is, what is a 10/10 vocal performance if this is not one?
I actually don't give 10's. 10's signify "Perfection", which means there's absolutely no possible way it can be worked on or improved upon, which means there's no further need to strive to achieve a higher level. The second that happens, the artist stops growing and becomes stagnant. I will give 10's posthumously to artists who are no longer able to improve and work on their craft, like the day Eddie Van Halen passed away. However as long as the artist is alive and is able to work and create and improve upon his/her craft...then perfection should always be the goal, but never truly be achieved. My own personal philosophy.
