I watch these just to hear Micheal's voice!
ecceau fx same here... Even after 4 ago , his voice was just as refreshing as it is today
I prefer Lumia thinner bezels. Looks better than the M8
the front? maybe. the back definitely not
I hate how all lumia phones looks like it has a bulit in case on it. The front looks good but the sides & the back is ugly in (my opinion)
sides only ugly because its thick but i still prefer smaller bezels . Yea would be cool if they use Kevlar or Aluminum in the back but being plastic back the battery should have atleast been removable
TechPimp The sides aren't plastic. that's metal.
nestor rasgado i taking about the back of the phone. The metal sides are ok but they look so thick round off would be better
You are always super- uber cool Micheal; with your "ultra" fantastic "pure" reviews!!!! I have never ever seen a phone reviewer like u buddy!!!! period!!!!! There always some magic and crispy, silky, juicy content in your reviews!! That shows how fantastically well crafted is your script! I wish i can write like that!!! U make me fancy myself in your shoes!! Biggest fan of urs from INDIA!!! Keep reviewing!!!!

LORD GANESH at 5.35 .glad to see that one !!!!!
5:35
Icon is suppose to have double tap to wake after Cyan Update. Check your settings Michael.
Windows Phones are great. iphone and Android came out almost 10 years ago so naturally people adopted them first. Windows Phone been out 4 years and so no surprise that the App market is a little behind. In my opinion Windows Phone OS is the superior mobile platform. People just aren't willing to switch over yet because yes of the lacking app market but that will change with time.
I personally I have tried both iOS and android neither of which I liked at all, simply clunky and slow. Windows Phone OS is smooth and perfect.
***** There is another mobile OS, thats lacking apps, but provides best in class user expirience - BB10, you should check it out (I am WP and BB10 user btw)
Oh man, I forgot about the Custom Lockscreen launcher for Windows Phone that never left Beta.
Wait, the M8 has a 5MP front-facing but only 4MP rear-facing? That's stupid.
Ben Micael Dven 💔
The 4MP camera has 1.9 microns per pixel, so it's much better in low light than the selfie cam.
Golden Boy i thought in the One M8 its 2.0 microns?
DarkPa1adin
1.9 rounds to 2.0
4 ultrapixels
Just got to say; best review yet, realy nice transitions and just with being clear about everything
Deal breaker for One M8 is camera and no shutter key
while deal breaker for Lumia 930 / Icon is no sd card storage
Pocketnow is the only channel extensively covering all platforms and providing relevant videos for consumers...really impressed
Your comparisons are getting better and better..
+1
Damn those perfectly rounded corners, how sharp they are.
I like the lumia better.
Gaming Comic and Lumia's pricing is better too plus.google.com/104923498734515538555/posts/7Z1Gm18r5iQ
I love the edges on the Lumia phone, and you can never go wrong with that camera
Now they should make a Lumia Icon for Android...
I would love that!
Will never happen :/ Still +1
Nah.
Those slim bezels on the Nokia actually make me want to try a windows phone.
Icon hands down!! I seriously hope this phone isn't outdated by the time I build up some cell phone money
The pureview camera + camera shutter on One M8 body would be perfect.
The Icon's(930's) screen can reproduce totally pitch black. I've tested it by turning on full brightness at night and setting up an image with a white square while most of the picture was black. Then I covered the white part with a book and, to my surprise, the black portion was actually pitch black! Unlike the S3's which I previously owned.
I have a SG3 and this review has made me really think about moving to a Windows phone. Thanks.
Dude your reviews are by far the best on pocketnow and for the most part all of UA-cam. I really enjoyed Noah Kravitz reviews and unboxing, you two are my favorite oh and Jaime Rivera as well.
I love Micheal s reviews. He gives a detailed and insightful description. Bravo
With HTC offering a windows version it would be amazing to be able to get the icon with an android version. The build quality and camera running android would be sweet.
I'd take the Nokia, the reason being that I already have the HTC One (M7) for Android, and I'd like to change it up.
Also I have little to not use for the speakers on my HTC One as I dont often use them, and I enjoy taking nice pictures. So regardless of "changing it up", I'd still refer the Nokia Lumia
I had an Icon for almost 2 years (loved it!) and dropped it a few months before my upgrade. The insurance provider ONLY has the M8 available now... Guess I get to try both!
This guy is a cool dude. Damn he got style
I'll tell you what, I watch all sorts of WP reviews on UA-cam.. but I'll always come back to Pocket Now simply because I love all the Star Trek in the videos!
Fantastic review as always Michael. For me, I can't go past the Icon's superior camera.
The Icon just got the latest Denim update and 4k camera tweaks. This video is a few months old so look at some of the updated reviews after the latest update finally hit the Icon. You can get the Icon from Amazon, Verizon has not had the Icon on their Online Store since last Fall. They only offer the M8 and the Samsung Ativ S models now. Who knows if the Samsung model will ever get any updates since Samsung cares more about their Android phones.
I like this comparison. I never realized Windows phones had so much to offer and I'm impressed honestly.
@Adam Faulkner It's a button to basically swipe right to access the App list. But u can easily just swipe right so its hardly used.
An excellent review as always. However, I'm still eagerly waiting for a 1520 replacement.
you can setting the double tap to wake up on Nokia Lumia 930. Go to settings -> touch -> check the "Double tap to wake up the phone" box. :)
One advantage that the M8 has over the icon is that it while be coming to other carriers whereas the Icon looks to be staying a Verizon exclusive
Omg just looking at this now and shocked to see how mature windows was back then. Microsoft truly fucked this one up. And the build quality of the Nokia, just wow.
Not many apps and coronavirus
The Lumia 930 (Icon) DOES SUPPORT the 'double tap to wake' feature as I have the Lumia 930 and have this feature... The screen is also amazing.. much better than on the Htc One M8.. And peformance wise... the lumia has the edge. The corners of the phone is not sharp.. I know this and IN MY OPINION.. I prefer the design as mine has a lovely matte orange backing. :)
I just chose the M8 over the ICON. I knew what I was giving up on the ICON (stellar camera, wireless charging) opting for the beautifully designed M8.
the 930 does support double tap wake, also, i dont know why, but the 930 feels way better build
Beautiful comparison Michael!
HTC One M8 has expandible storage... that's another great feature... I love the ICON/930 but since there is only a 32GB available... I think the best WP at this moment is the LUMIA 1520.
Sadly in 2020 is almost impossible to use Windows Phone 😩. I miss it so hard!
Hack it
I'm looking for a windows phone but I don't know which to buy. Any recommendations?
the one m8
by the way it was a great review you showed every single feature of any phone
thanks Michael! lyr! *
*like your reviews.
If it were the original One M7 design with M8 specs I would be more equally divided, but I really don't fancy the current design
In my opinion , Lumia Icon is the best looking smartphone to date.
I have used both of these and what it boiles down to is weather or not you watch or listen to much media. You gotta love the Boomsound speakers! Im personally tired of cupping my phones to redirect the audio somewhere forward. One more item to keep in mind is Blinkfeed, this is one of my favorite features/app on the HTC line. Im a huge Nokia fan but give it up for the HTC One! Lets hope someone can figure out how to duel boot this bad boy like the H7.
Well done Michael Fisher! #applause
I love music and sound quality in a device is a must , and I don't take lots of pictures... Therefore , I'll go with the m8 !
Lumia Icon is a really good phone and so is the M8 but the 4MP sensor doesn't cut it enough for me, the 20MP sensor is clearly the better choice. Im due for an upgrade in a couple weeks and trying to narrow down my decision. Ive never owned a lumia but i think it would be a fluid and fun experience.
I really enjoyed this review. It was honest and highlighted bout h of the phones advantages and disadvantages, thumbs for a great review
Windows does have double tap to wake. They actually came out with it first. My Lumia 928 has it. It's had it for awhile now before many Android phones. Just look in the settings it is hidden. Pocketnow
I am on ATT but I think we as enthusiasts should reward HTC for giving us a choice. I love Nokia and I know it is customized for WP but they have left the high end and we need some phones. I am buying the M8 when it hits ATT.
Fact check Michael, any WP8.1 phone has double tap to wake via a setting in the touch settings list item.
Opinion: only girlie hands have issues with the rounded corners of the icon. My lumia 925 does not affect me at all.
The best technical review very detailed and in depth.
Lumia have more real screen estate, Wireless charging, OIS, much more MegaPixels, Better screen, better support, better apps. M8 just have better speakers and expandable storage, and of course, very good selfie camera.
Such a tough decision but in the end I personally would option for Nokia Lumia Icon. LG G2 user, currently.
Already have the M8 Android and the ICON - wouldn't consider flipping to the M8 Windows unless FLAC playback and screen-on for at least 60 min becomes a reality for the Windows M8. Also really liking the AMOLED of the Lumina over the M8's Windows look and feel. I also felt the ICON was more responsive with 8.1. developer installed while comparing the two in a store setting.
Nokia icon is the way to go, but good to see htc finally back in the market with a windows phone, hopefully more will follow
MS has vowed to provide updates for Lumias through Windows 10, while HTC has kinda sucked considering updates. The HTC 8X isn't even on 8.1, while the Lumia 520/521 has the latest updates. I admire HTC's ambition, but if you want support in the future, I'd suggest the Lumia.
LOL AT 4:36 WHEN HE SAID ON ANY WINDOWS PHONE I WAS LIKE UM, ON ANY SMARTPHONE, THEN HE CORRECTED HIMSELF LOL. I LOVE MY ICON. CAN'T BELEIVE I EVER OWNED AN IPHONE.
i have a m8 and love it but had i known the lumia had the camera it had i may have been swayed, too late now. still love my new windows phone.
Quick question - what app we're you using for the lock screen? It looked pretty cool!
Owh my god, i miss windows phone now in 2022
Remember to keep your pixels ultra, and your view pure! :)
the more I watch Fisher's review the more I like him... probably my english improved too!
nice video though. personally i prefer Lumia for windows to the M8. it is really a tough call... I think M8 is better on android to windows. The only reason for a windows phone is really lumia camera and its nokia map... :)
It's pretty amazing to see how much better the iPhone 11's camera is in 2019 than those phones!
My Lumia 930 supports double tap to wake, so I suppose the Icon does too. It are the same phones anyway.
the icon is actually the 929, so I guess that's the only hardware difference. I know it does require hardware to support the double tap.
juffurey it only requires software. cyan update (;
Yeah I think he mispoke. I see other videos showing the Icon and it double taps to wake just fine. As for what the Cyan update is I have no idea, is that what they are calling the 8.1.1 version? Just hope it gets released soon, my 8x is still waiting for the 8.1 update, one thing that sucks about being a Verizon customer.
TekReview's 8.1.1 is 8.1 GDR1
of course for me ur will be Lumia. I already own one and have never looked at anything else and wanna upgrade to Lumia 930. 1020 is also not bad but it beats every cellphone camera in the market. Plus I like the Nokia camera app that gives a greater control on the photos I shoot.
I would pick the lumia because of the high megapixel camera compared to the M8; but then again, I would also pick the M8 because of its great speaker quality, I dunno.
As always the best reviewer Mr.Michael Fisher
Bought the lumia awesome phone
If there was a dual boot with android and windows I would love it. I need android apps but windows UI is gorgeous. And the Icon shows it with that display oh well not getting a windows phone since not enough up to date apps
I started with icon and changed to the m8 based the music and the icon to me was much more heavier . I use my 1020 for pic so I still the best of both worlds
Each phone has almost perfect score. But as someone that has been loyal with Nokia since ever, i prefer the Icon even though I can't buy one because I don't live in US. But, great review! Very entrrtaining, keep making great videos!
Waited a while to see a good full review. Good job. Though from what I've heard the HTC has a much longer battery life due to the newer professor. And I do like the ir blaster plus speakers. I'm constantly putting calls on speaker.
But l feel lumia is the definition of wp8. I feel I rather get a HTC m8 for android instead.
Well at least now ms/Nokia will have to start coming up with more features finally to keep up.
Regardless thanks for posting this comparison. Still no idea which I want. All be it a $200 difference
love the review... i may be using android now, but i can see good potential with WP as my next viable...
Odd the icon doesn't have double tap to wake. My 930 does.
maybe becoz it has a Cyan update.. not sure though
Nicko Porras my 820 does that too even b4 the cyan
I have seen other videos where the Icon did have the double tap to wake feature. But it was a video from Germany, maybe they have that in the next update, who knows. I would not mind a button as long as it did not do like my HTC 8x. After the last GDR3 update my 8x when tapping PWR to wake it up, sometimes it says GOODBYE and turns itself off. Other times the screen comes on and when Im looking at my latest TEXT message within 2 seconds it will say GOODBYE and turn off.
iut will get double tap with the update its part of cyan update.
I think it already does. The next update is Denim and ATT has been putting out updates faster then Verizon. I had to get Cyan on my HTC 8x by signing up with the Microsoft App Studio for free. Works just fine. Tired of waiting for Verizon they spend far to much time making commercials and pretending they make products everyone wants that are not related to cell phones.
That is a very interesting VS you guys did. Now if only the M8 would get out of exclusivity and land on another carrier then we're golden for some Windows Phone competition ;)
Have you gotten an M8 for windows yet since they are now on T-Mobile and AT&T?
StrickenWithFear
Sadly though I don't I live in Canada, and we get barely any Windows Phone love here :P
MrWindowsPhone
Poor Canada. I feel so sad especially since we live (as countries) so close together. But I do remember reading from a few people that the AT&T and T-mobile lines work in Canada because those two companies are the standard that most of the world uses. So if you buy that or the Lumia 1520 unlocked, it should work.
StrickenWithFear
Haha thanks, I'll probably find a used M8 Windows version on Ebay or some forum site and then unlock it, I have a 1520 with me but it's financially blocked because someone owes AT&T 1200$.... soooo yeah I think I'll just resell that and get an M8 or just wait for a W10 device.
MrWindowsPhone
I hope that all works out for you. Have a good day :)
Love the lock screen @ 41 sec, what app is that ?
Microsoft's Lock Screen Beta, available in the Windows Store. ^M
I don't know if everybody who using this app has the same problem with me is battery drains much faster after install this app. It's awesome lock screen anyway.
Mono THENG It's a laggy piece of garbage with ugly fonts. Avoid.
Lumia has advantage of screen technology and camera but the M8 has latest processor (not much of a difference though) and those boom sound speakers (other manufactures should also consider). Both are good windows phones right now. And yeah the M8 looks better with windows phone.
I think the Icon has the Double Tap to wake just like the 930, with the last Cyan update.
double tap to wake up is available on Nokia Lumia 930 (WP 8.1) - I'm using it
is Icon that different?
For me it was an easy choice as HTC costs more :)
and HTC is more slippery and it's curved back makes it hard to operate on a table
Icon or any other Lumia with amoled technology or even other lumias tends to have high brightness on AUTO under sunlight. I tried it on my 1020 and the screen is so bright under sunlight over Automatic Brightness.
How about fusing the two phones together? Have to Lumia legendary built quality, with the HTC materials and design, and mix the Lumia PureView Camera with the HTC BoomSound speakers. That would make the Perfect windows phone
Charl Meyers That would make the Perfect phone, no just windows phone. Sweet dreams u.u
Just curios i want an icon but I am a little concerned about the icon not having 8.1.1 does it mater too much?
Michael Fisher is the BEST reviewer EVER, great comparison by the way, and I would buy the HTC One M8.
I realize they were so close in comparison but l lean toward the HTC because past use with both brands of phones. The HTCs tend to be more reliable.
I am pleased with ur videos man
great job Michael
@Aisback Really? I thought that feature was not on the 930. Did they update it with cyan?
I just dont like the fact that HTC felt the need to have a seperate phone for windows when they could have just given us the option to pick which OS we wanted.
@Kumar Velayutham Exactly!
Lumia! I am buying one now! The video I been looking for.
I'm thinking to quit the world of Android soon and was thinking about the M8 coz I adore HTC.
Also, I was waiting for the release of iPhone6, but I'm a heavy user and its screen won't last a month with me!
BTW, I am a big fan of LOST!
Both are fantastic, but I'm a little bit inclined for the Lumia because of the Nokia Camera. Anyway HTC 8 is amazing too.
If only Nokia released a 900 or 1000 series phone with an SD card slot for once... Until they do I'll pick any other High-End WP.
(Also don't rub 1520 in my face, I don't like phablets).
any heating issue with the L930 ?
I'd go with the Lumia, just for the camera and maybe wireless charging. But i really value an excellent camera, so to each his own, i guess. M7 user btw
What about the Ativ SE by samsung? Pocketnow it's one of Verizon's flagship windows Phones too I believe, and it is the cheapest build, but also the most lightweighted one at 136 grams. :P Will their be any coverage on that phone?
windows phone keeps getting even more gorgeous
Where did you find that lock screen at? Would love to have.
Thanks in advance!
