Most likely a complaint from a neighbor. Sorry, but you can't block the sidewalk. Park in the garage, park legally on the street, or park a vehicle which fits in your driveway without blocking the sidewalk. Its a common ADA complaint.
@ryutheslayer88 I think the issue is that the city own the sidewalk even though you have to maintain it. So the complaint is too the city. The city has to comply to ada. So despite whether the house was design before ada. The city still needs to comply therefore if they get the complaint they have to do a ticket or well, I think they should of did a warning. Not much the homeowner can do. Because if someone in a wheelchair want to complain. They have the right too. The homeowner should park in the garage. I do know that areas like that the garage is probably jam packed with storage because of a lack of basement. But declutter because u have to do what u have to do. Or just declutter enough that u can fit the nose end of the car in so it not over the sidewalk. Like unless there is an hoa that gonna bitch about ur clutter. There is the security issue. But let be honest. If ur garage is jam packed with stuff u don’t use. U can probably get rid of most of it. I’m not saying get rid of the holiday decorations or family photos. But that kind of stuff is not the size of a garage.
There were times, long ago... When people didn't own two or more cars. There may...or may not...be another car in the garage. The video mentions .."older homes". The game being played is the city needs money.. Increase ticketing.. Go to court.. Plead the ticket.. It will cost the city more money. .
100% agree with the Ticket, she says her mother-in-law is disabled, what’s if a disabled individuals was going down the sidewalk they would need to go into the roadway to get around the vehicle.
I can sympathize. My grandmother was wheelchair bound for the last three years of her life. she got around the neighborhood in her wheelchair. I was not aware of the problem until she complained about how hard it was to navigate around inconsiderate jerks. Then years later when I moved to my neighborhood here in Florida the problem really hit home. In the last 12 months alone, three different people in wheelchairs were struck and killed in the street because they were forced into the street for this very reason. I routinely report violators and do so about 2-3 times a month. I have on many occasions in the last two years watched vehicles get towed. Our city code enforcement crew does a good job but can't be everywhere at once. The police are tired of putting police tape around fatal accident scenes so they always thank me when I report this. I've got code enforcement on speed dial.
I own enough cars that it's tight parking on my driveway. Unlike the douchebags in this video, after I park, I get out and make sure none of my car is on the sidewalk. It's my problem that I have the number of vehicles I have, NOT yours, you deserve a clear walkway. I've even accidentally bumped one of my cars pulling up to fit. Again, my problem. You deserve the sidewalk, it's there for you to get around. If I couldn't make it fit I'd park it in a parking lot somewhere, at my expense. Homeowners like these douchebags need someone with a sawzall to hack off the part of their car that's hanging over the sidewalk!
I hate it when people park into the sidewalk. I once watched a blind woman walk into truck parked partially into the sidewalk walk and fall down hard. She missed it with her cane. She was not exspecting a truck to be parked blocking the sidewalk. It not just the blind everyone using the sidewalk is put danger by this practice.
The city was within their right to that. You are not allowed to block a sidewalk. My question is, why has San Diego stopped enforcing that law for whatever time they stopped?
I am allowed to parking in the confines of my own driveway. Everyone is forgetting the the city allowed for this neigborhood to be build so the design flaw is their fault.
The City should come by and tow any vehicles that are blocking the sidewalk!! These owners will cause school children to have to walk into the streets!!!

Yes. Get rid of the stuff (if it is in a garage,it's seldom if ever used) or build a shed to store the stuff or rent a storage space or stop buying stuff or get a bigger house. The reason I applauded the cop is simple.Sidewalks are for people, not cars. My friend is an amputee(right leg below the knee) and is trying to use a walker to get around. When people block sidewalks she would have to get on a street and she is not fast enough to get out of the way of some moron driving and texting.
This is more "fake news". ABC 10 News, in their headline, is pushing the narrative that these people were "Ticketed for parking in their own driveway." However, this could not be further from the truth. They were ticketed for obstructing the sidewalk with their vehicle. Headlines are a large part of the news story and fake headlines = fake news.
That is what garages are for. I noticed that she had a garage. Also, her mother can apply for a handicap parking space. If a child is walking to school or the bus stop, they will have to walk in the streets. They can get hit by a car walking in the streets. All of those people parked on the sidewalk should be ticketed for a safety violation.
@Daniel Mohammed HAO rules state that you can’t park in the street. Instead, people hoard junk in their garage or buy too many cars, so there is no room in the garage to park their car. Not their problem. That doesn't make me a Karen. Nice try, though.
@@zari2662there is also plenty of room to park on your property(garage) and not the sidewalk. Sidewalks do not belong to house owners. Just because you leave a little room for people to move, it doesn't automatically make it legal nor okay. Do you have any logic in that little head of yours?
But we know that a small car would work because other countries don't have the luxury of using huge cars for either disabled or able bodied people, in fact in the past disabled people in the UK used to use tiny cars that had a tiny engine and only three wheels so there is no reason at all why someone who has a disability can't use a reasonably sized car and park in their garage, in fact it would probably work in their favour because it would be easier to park thus giving them more space to get in and out of their vehicle.
Well I don't think any car would do for her to drive safely in that situation, assuming you mean at a level where she couldn't get into the car without the use of a crane, otherwise pretty much any car even a smart car would probably do.
I'm fat as hell and I drive a Yaris. It would fit in that driveway. And, frankly, it's more comfortable than a Camry. Small cars fit fat people. Just some fat people don't want to be seen filling 50% of the car with their body, makes them look even fatter. I just don't care because the gas mileage is great, the car was cheap, and it's comfy. @@ryans413 True, although if the car is parked sideways and even one wheel is resting on the lawn, they could get a different kind of ticket depending upon the local laws. See for example the video titled "Ont. man gets $75 ticket for partially parking on lawn."
So wouldn't parking in the garage solve that issue? Especially if the garage has a direct entrance to the house, which would make it even easier for her mother.
I'm sure it's used for anything but parking cars in! many use it as a extra room. A have someone a few houses down that turned their garage into a Bedroom I think, or something. There's no longer even a garage door. It's all sealed up, a solid wall now. If you can't park in the garage and your car is to long to fix in your driveway, then it's out on the street!!! Why the the houses were built where they were with such short driveways?!?! Just because you've always broken the law and gotten away with it doesn't make it right.
JB Dragon That's true. TBH we turned out garage into a gym/laundry room/workshop...but our driveway is long enough for 4 cars. However one of my aunts had a driveway as short as this one and they parked the extra car sideways so it wasn't blocking the side walk.
I'm with the city on this. What about handicaps, people in wheelchairs, old people, ect.? Especially if it's snow or ice on the ground. They have garages for a reason. Park on the street if you have to. If so many people stopped using their garages as storage this wouldn't be a problem.
The photograph shows a driveway that is clearly not intended as a parking space. This is a path to the garage and nothing more. It is the responsibility of the home buyer to ensure that their house suits their needs. It is not the responsibility of the city to provide parking free parking space for home owners who don't. Side walks are not extensions of your driveway. They are for the safe ambulation of pedestrians and others who need a path to traverse. By obstructing a sidewalk you force people, especially those in a wheelchair, to take to the streets which endangers their lives. In my neighborhood alone three wheelchair bound people have been struck and killed this year by motor vehicles because they could not access sidewalks that were obstructed by vehicles. Based on the comments, most people seem to agree with me. But I see there are a few selfish liberals who think the government owes them a free parking space for every vehicle they own. If you want to own more than one vehicle then make sure your property has enough space for them. If you turn your only space into a den then you forfeit your right to complain.
You make some excellent points. The only thing I would add is that the patch of concrete between the sidewalk and the garage is called a "driveway" and not a "parking space". Further, the Merriam-Webster definition of "Garage" is, "a building or shed for housing a motor vehicle or vehicles."
"where do they want them to park?" - Hmmm. How about on the other side of that big overhead door.? That is unless you haven't done anything dumb like turn your garage into a living space.

That's their house first, and then a small path to a temporarily inconvenienced passerby second. Driveways are meant to be parked on. If they built small driveways, they can't fault the person who bought a house and a regular sized car which doesn't fit. You know I have been reading these comments and majority of them are blaming her when the real question is why was she the only one given a ticket? It feels like that is what most of the commenters had missed. It like they only heard one sentence and not the rest of the story. A few are like why not park in the garage? So..... where else are you going to store things like yard tools, tools, holiday decorations, etc if you don't have anywhere else to put it? Also, stop saying things like a gimp pass that is rude and uncalled for.
The homeowners are clearly at fault, just a little common sense will tell you that blocking the sidewalk is inappropriate and if the street has a permanent no-parking ordinance they should have committed to being a one-car family the moment they bought the house. The disabled tag, if valid, should allow them to park on the street in front of the house. It's not as though the city went on a revenue binge and started ticketing every house in the neighborhood, so you can't accuse them of blind bureaucracy for not giving warnings or coming up with a long-term solution. Likely a cop or brownie noticed this one car in the middle of the day blocking the entire sidewalk and wrote them up.

Due diligence. Buyer be smart.
Well the city certainly approved it, it was likely the doing of the builder.
But that kind of stuff is not the size of a garage.
it was a normal size car, the sidewalk should not go through the driveway like that, whoever made those houses put them to close to street
There were times, long ago... When people didn't own two or more cars. There may...or may not...be another car in the garage. The video mentions .."older homes".
The game being played is the city needs money.. Increase ticketing..
Go to court.. Plead the ticket.. It will cost the city more money. .
Thank you.
I'm so very confused as to why they don't use the actual garage right in front of them.🤔
I'm guessing the garage is already occupied by another vehicle. There is no room for their second vehicle to park, except on the driveway.
100% agree with the Ticket, she says her mother-in-law is disabled, what’s if a disabled individuals was going down the sidewalk they would need to go into the roadway to get around the vehicle.
Also a good point !

Why doesn't she use the garage after her mother gets out? Pull it out of the garage before she gets in. Simple.
As a handicap person i need sidewalks and this is a constant problem that people block the sidewalks with their cars.
A brick through the window of the parking police cruiser ought to fix the problem. If not, maybe an ass-whooping.
I usually just slash the tires of cars blocking the sidewalk but bricks work too.
Weird. Almost like there is a space right in front of the vehicle specifically designed to park it there.

California is a cesspool
A garage is purpose intended for enclosed vehicle parking. If people choose to use it as a warehouse for junk then people need to get rid of junk

Ohhhh god, didn’t have to scroll down far to see a comment from a Karen
@Daniel Mohammed HAO rules state that you can’t park in the street. Instead, people hoard junk in their garage or buy too many cars, so there is no room in the garage to park their car. Not their problem. That doesn't make me a Karen. Nice try, though.
That's why she was ticketed. No cars are allowed on sidewalks. This family is nuts.
@@zari2662there is also plenty of room to park on your property(garage) and not the sidewalk. Sidewalks do not belong to house owners. Just because you leave a little room for people to move, it doesn't automatically make it legal nor okay. Do you have any logic in that little head of yours?
I don't know why they would bring their handicapped mom into it. You would think they would understand others might want to get through on sidewalk.
There's still plenty of space to walk around. Quit being so dramatic.
Why don't people there park their cars in their garages surely that's the point of having a garage?
Or get a smaller car that does fit their drive.
Her mother is disabled, a small car probably wouldn't work.
What if she's morbidly obese?
Well I don't think any car would do for her to drive safely in that situation, assuming you mean at a level where she couldn't get into the car without the use of a crane, otherwise pretty much any car even a smart car would probably do.
I'm fat as hell and I drive a Yaris. It would fit in that driveway. And, frankly, it's more comfortable than a Camry. Small cars fit fat people. Just some fat people don't want to be seen filling 50% of the car with their body, makes them look even fatter.
I just don't care because the gas mileage is great, the car was cheap, and it's comfy. Done and done.

I'm with the city on this. What about handicaps, people in wheelchairs, old people, ect.? Especially if it's snow or ice on the ground. They have garages for a reason. Park on the street if you have to. If so many people stopped using their garages as storage this wouldn't be a problem.
So the world should stop for the rarity? Sorry I'm not adjusting my life for you.
Liberalism has nothing to do with it. Grow up.

The purpose of a driveway is so that you can remove your vehicle from the road, cross the sidewalk and park it in the garage, the facility that's built specifically for parking a vehicle.
Park it in the garage. That's what it's for.

she was not ticketed for parking in her own driveway, she was ticketed for parking a vehicle over the city owned sidewalk. She is saying where is she supposed to park? That is not the city's problem. She should either park in a legal spot on the street somewhere, or in her garage. If her garage is too full of junk or has some sort of cabinets in it to prevent the vehicle from fitting inside it, then she should either park on the street, or get a different vehicle. Get a shorter vehicle that won't impede the sidewalk. The city is doing nothing wrong here. It is not up to the city to figure out solutions to people complying with the laws & ordinances, that is for people to figure out for themselves. She could buy a Smart car, a Scion iQ, or a mini-Cooper. If she wants to convenience her disabled mother, she should park in the garage, if she cannot, then she should modify the garage so that something, some vehicle, fits inside the garage. I have a driveway long enough to park 2 school buses single file, but a shorter car than she does. I'd bet she bought that vehicle when she already owned the house. If she did, then she is not too bright, she should have measured her driveway to see if the vehicle will fit without impeding the sidewalk. People have a right to use the sidewalk, and it does not belong to the homeowner.
you think you & people like you own everything. but you don't. Someone like you in my own neighborhood put up a fence but fenced in not only their own property, but city property as well, because that gave them a larger area to be fenced in. They were stupid like you & fenced in the public right of way, including a stop sign. @@Sasskitten Yes, Michelle says she was the only one who got a ticket - no news here. She was parked on the sidewalk. If she needs more storage space there are self-store facilities for that.
@@tophtml1 Yeah but can anyone actually afford those monthly things?
@@Sasskitten It may be cheaper than tickets for parking on the sidewalk.
It doesn't matter you're not allowed to park on a pavement it is for pedestrians handicap people baby strollers you park there someone has to go out in the street then they get hit by a car a mother pushing a baby stroller Stop Parking on the pavement it's illegal they just finally started enforcing it clean out your garage you damn Hoarders
If the driveway isn't long enough to fit a car then it was never designed properly. Driveways should be a minimum of 20 feet. Any shorter and it's not safe.
Cars should be smaller.
You got a ticket for blocking the sidewalk, because you were um blocking the sidewalk.
That big door in front of you, well that opens up to reveal a garage, a place to park that car. As for loading/unloading, do it on the street.
This kind of crap usually happens in cities that are desperate for money
It's not! You're just too selfish to understand why most of us agree with that ticket and the law. Your problems shouldn't affect the lives of others. That's narcissistic!
The City of San Diego needs money. Like a mafia shakedown
"I'd like the city to tell me how to park my vehicle." THAT is the issue with modern day people, and mostly city people at that. Asking the government for special privileges that they already have access to without the government's "permission".
C D Hanks The city has a responsibility to make sure the sidewalk isn't impeding on private properties.
You're an idiot. The whole point she's making is - why would she not be able to park on her driveway? You're forgetting about all that space in front of her garage meant for cars. Not even counting the small piece of sidewalk that was taken up. The whole point is that the driveway was built too small. The city should have known about that when allowing the house to be built. But you're too stupid and petty to understand such an obvious argument like that....
Move your car Karen
Cant call her Karen anymore.Remmeber you cancel culture?....
i hate cars that block the sidewalk maybe clean your garage maybe you'll have some room
Duh, sidewalk is for pedestrians not cars. Where do they think someone in a wheelchair supposed to get by, guess they don't care.
