This is how a video is suppose to look on engine work. Great job!

I changed the oil pump gear in my '02 Roadie a few years ago, and dropped one of those Allen fasteners down into the case! Thank God for those magnets on a stick. I was able to retrieve the screw with no problems, and immediately after getting it out, went in to change my shorts. Hang onto those screws. I had the old type gear, and even with the panic of the screw in the crankcase, the job went well, and works fine. I also upgraded to Barnett clutch pressure plate.

It seems like on these engines almost all is going to be good at the end 🙂 Good luck with your bike, mine is atanding over a year now, no time for it, maybe I'll have to make a video on a barn find soon 😁

I’m planning a long ride this coming September and was concerned about that oil pump gear. Not sure if my 2001 Roadstar was ever replaced during the recall by the previous owner. Was looking for instructions on how to do the tear down and inspection. Glad I found this video. Thanks for taking the time to record and post this video.

Do all years of road stars have the same oil pump or were they upgraded in certain years?

Nice work and video my friend! Thank you. I am about to get one of these too and have no idea what to look for at this bike, but now i have some small idea. Any hints I could check before buying this bike? Thank you

Thank you too. No really, but f.e. I do have trobles with starting the bike, decompressor solenoid is shutting itself off during startup, electrical issues, like speedo not working or fuel gauge too sometimes, I would check the drive belt and on my bike the brake dics are oscillating. Any oil leaks are not desired of course.

Buongiorno ho un problema dopo il richiamo sulla trasmissione, richiamo sicurezza Yamaha ufficiale, la moto in decelerazione emette un forte sibilo, cosa può essere successo ?

No idea, but I would go to Yamaha and claim an improper repair.

As a mechanic, I couldn't work right with those big gloves!!! I prefer to wash my hands with godd hand cleaner..... Well I guess there are different ways of doing things....

Well, I work with gloves because the oil products like to go through the skin like everything else does and that's not something I'm comfortable with... So for health reasons.
