I hate the idea of an open world resident evil, but the issue with that is that I also love the idea
I guess it will depend on their interpretation of "open world" for example is it a HUGE open world map like GTA and the witcher 3? In that case you would probably need a car or even a plane and I feel like having things like these would ruin the feeling of survival horror, but if it's a small scale map like the yakuza franchise then it might work, I just hope they don't go back to their RE5 and 6 era...
It'll work. I'm looking forward to it. A longer RE game will always be good in my opinion.
I'm hoping for a hub like 7 and 8 but you can kinda choose what to deal with first like deciding to go after Donna area. Kinda like the new far cry's do but smaller map size
It has me a little bit worried tbh. I far prefer the carefully linearly crafted modes of previous RE with some open hub sections.
For example, I felt terrified with the survival horror and controlled narrative in The Evil within 1. However, the open world in the sequel seemed to rob the game of that narrative power even though it was mechanically superior.
Just look at evil within 2 for what this might look like if done well.
I am wary of the idea but I think Capcom would ultimately do a good job. An open world RE in a dense, gritty urban setting like Raccoon City could actually be dope. Especially if there’s “dungeons” - more classic survival horror type buildings you can go into.
Metro Exodus and The Evil Within 2 brought back my love of open world games. If they were to make a Resident Evil game on the level of those games I think it could succeed.
Evil Within 2 is not Open World. It's linear plus occasional optional gigs you can do. Guess what. So is Resident Evil on the PS1. Learn what Open World means from gamers who actually play them. Daggerfall and GTA are open world. EW2 is not.
I'm so ready for this. I always remember thinking how much better RE3 remake would have been if we'd had an open world racoon city.
A rural tropical setting seems interesting but i feel like an urban raccoon city style setting would feel more fun, kind of like a dead rising 3 styled map
Or it sounds very much like Dead Island?
I think the urban Raccoon city vibe would be the best way to go, but something like a dead island tropical isle vibe would be very cool, and different from village, and Biohazard... I'm down for w.e they choose to do.. but would definitely prefer the urban environment.
@@ReadyPlayerTomVR they could really add the tropical isle part later on in an expansion if they wanted to tbh I definitely wouldn't mind that, urban environments are the most terrifying to deal with so it really would be perfect for them to go down that route especially considering how much lore raccoon city has and how much it can be expanded on,
@@fritzy. 100% agree.. that would actually be cool.. make the entire game urban, and give us expansion DLC with tropical environment, would be drastically different, making gamers want to see it play out.
@@ReadyPlayerTomVR exactly, just take a few pages out of elden ring's book
a detailed multi elevation map like cyberpunks night city would be perfect, but with the rural town setting it with possible jungle area to explore it could have a real nice tone
people always color R and E in fan-made Resident Evil 9 logos red, unaware the red RE stands for remake
Could swap characters like gta v tie up everyone.
It’s arguable that a lot of resident evil games are open world. Look at CVX, you can travel vast distances to different locations within the linear story
I think safest and probably the most desired approach for RE9 would be RE4R gameplay with a semi open world like village only expanded slightly with maybe Jill, Ada or Claire as the protagonist. If what Dusk Golem said about the setting is true then a SEA jungle would be an interesting visual choice for RE at least. I feel the only natural progression for the series would be the introduction of environmental stealth mechanics like hiding under water or covering yourself in mud/shrubs to avoid the inevitable stalker type BOW Capcom insists on putting in every RE game. It could wright a lot of the wrongs of RE3R in regards to how Nemesis was handled but more importantly I think these mechanics would really build tension and ramp up the horror. Loved this vid btw 😊
It sounds like what they really want isn't an open world game like GTA but a first person Metroid-vania style game. Where it's a big map you can traverse as you please, but there are locations locked behind abilities or items.
I am very nervous about an open world resident evil game but I am going to hold off my opinion until I see the game
I like the idea of small teases of the overall saga to be in RE9 with a larger focus on a new main character with pop in partners like Leon, Jill and Claire.
Remove Leon and add Chris
I am sick of Leon🤮
@@user-gz1ey7fr8vI’m sick of Chris
Head over to the "Lets Talk Resident Evil" channel for awesome RE content which has a new video talking about these leaks and some things that channels arent mentioning about them
Best resident evil channel !!
I love it. Village was almost open, but u get to spots where ur like I could walk right over that.
Resident Evil actually could benefit from a spin-off for open world gaming or online multiplayer. Since they have dishonorably included multiplayer modes in past titles for their single player/offline games like RE2R and RE3R, RE5/RE6
If they could nail down a more stable online multiplayer, it would hopefully mean more storyline oriented content for their single player games, which is how it should be. Given that Resistance and REVerse were nearly DOA and took away classics modes from the original game like Mercenaries.
Mercenaries in fact would be a great premise for a much larger game. Just with more features. They could basically just re-hash all the major events like Raccoon City, Val De Lobos, Tall Oaks and Kijuju. But instead with a sandbox twist. Allowing players to change the version of events by objective based actions. Perhaps like Battlefield 1 and 2’s multiplayer.
Players could either be a survivor, hero, soldier or villain. Pushing their objectives until one side has made the most effort in manipulating the situation.
For example, in Raccoon City, survivors would start in RPD while villains begin underground in the HIVE. They’d have to find their collectibles and objectives in order to escape to the streets, taking up to 30 minutes perhaps.
Once they would complete the first stage, they would then begin competing against each other to thwart the other team in checkpoint based advances.
Like blowing up the RPD hospital or stopping the explosion, taking down the electrical grid or preventing evacuations, whichever team performs the most objectives would be the obvious winner.
While draws would come down to team death matches. Basically like Operation Raccoon City, but more drawn out to really immerse the player in the role that they are fulfilling.
The issue with me is that most of RE’s multiplayer was always too fast paced when most of the games are drawn out, puzzle based, and focused on backtracking. They definitely need to find a way to incorporate these elements instead of just dumbing their modes down to shooting.
I’m so excited to see what RE9 looks like and the story and the characters
I feel like 4 Remake had some of that open world feel to it that I wanted. The side requests allowed you to backtrack or hang around areas for longer, the world was bigger in scale so it felt like you could explore more. The replayability is insanely good. I would love if they kept that and expanded on it, giving us a sort of mix-and-match for the overall experience that can be changed for multiple playthroughs. I want to be able to live in the world for a bit, not always have to be pushing the story forward or being cutscene teleported to a new location all the time.
When ur faster then light u only get to live in the darkness 😢
Deep
Considering how far the Resident Evil series has come over the years, I would love more spinoffs where you play either past Umbrella Agents or possibly even some of the monsters. Now yeah they did have those elements in the multiplayer games and in Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, but it would be very interesting to have a fully playable monster or B.O.W story.
Open world but linear story driven to still hold your hand through where to go. Dungeons like Zelda to keep you locked in to certain segments of the map which are indoor and detailed
Myself, I’m so ready for this game, open world and all
The previous formula still had a lot of life in it, they didnt have to reinvent it yet. This means going forward they have to match the scale of the development of 9? Seven years wait, hundreds of millions development ?
Idk hope its good at least
I still havent played Village lmao
don't lol as soon as you beat lad D which is near the start and is very underwhelming, the game goes downhill from there like way downhill like awful.
Me neither, RE 7 as well. They lost me when they went to 1st person.
Long time RE fan and I absolutely love Village. I think it’s far superior to 7. Played it as soon as it came out and there’s a lot of similarities to RE 4. If you’re a fan of 4 I highly recommend it. I personally thought it was very well balanced in terms of action/horror and I love the way they tied the origins of umbrella in with it all.
So Resident Dead Evil Island then?
I normally despise open world games because i think Ubisoft open world BUT Elden Ring and more horror focused the Evil Within 2 (RIP GONE TOO SOON) taught me that an open world horror game and by extension an open world resident evil game is totally possible and can be AMAZING. I think RE VILLAGE was a testing ground for the open world at least in the village, which was the best part, while i know it wasnt totally open world it did have player choice in the Treasure Side objectives, if they are able to expand on that making the "dungeons" bigger and give character to each zone i have to say i'm pretty excited. So far Capcom with their big IPS have not disappointed (except RE3R) as long as they keep out crating (keep normal crafting in RE combining gun powder, herbs, and some items) like 2 peices of wood to make a stake or collect 1 wood, 1 stone makes axe kinda crafting i guess survival crafting then i think we are in for treat. I think Capcom knows that atmosphere conquers all if they stick to that and not aim towards meaningless fetch quests we will have a banger.
Evil Within 2 open world style (Zoned) would be the best way to do horror open world. Capcom should use Evil Within 2 map design as a baseline. (not ripoff, concept)
I've been asking for this for so long! The idea of an open world Raccoon city 🤤😍
Resident evil needs to take the dark souls approach with winding levels and densely packed areas that lap over eachother, just multiple layers vertical and horizontal intersecting metroid like
They can do a custom character really well if they go the Mass Effect route

It's NOT that Singapore doesn't have any rural areas, I know, but "rural town inspired by Singapore" sounds a bit off.
Singapore is not particularly known for its rural areas, especially when we're talking about South East Asia. It's arguably the most 'urban' country in SEA.
Long time RE fan here and I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't call DG a 'trusted leaker' tbh.
Yeah I wonder was he maybe being ironic with that comparison
@@MickkaladYeah, if you think about rural setting in SEA, Singapore would be the last thing to get inspiration from. Even a quick google search will show you that Singapore is pretty much the opposite of 'rural'. I don't think DG knows what he's talking about.
That is like saying Frank West is a blank slate character.
That’s a mixed bag. My hope is it doesn’t incorporate a level system and it stays the same formula with getting weapons you can upgrade and that’s it. I wouldn’t want it to be like dead island.
I’d really like for them to keep the horror roots and bring back classic zombies , lickers , & tyrants. While keeping the 1st person mode. Even bring back the plagas or mold all in one game …
If the singapore inspired setting is true, thn open world would work fantastic with it; i mean the environments in said country along with similar southeast asian countries like Thailand screams RE claustrophobia, and mind u these countries are island based,so it doesnt take away from the feelin of isolation RE is mostly famous for and gives us quite the map to explore without havin to do a major retcon and bring RC back from the ashes
All I know is they better have the aerial view at some points.
Claire and her motorcycle would be awesome
Y tho
Please bring back classic characters. You didn’t even give Jake a shot after his first run with sherry
As long as it's not with the same thing as the MW3's open zone missions, I'm all for it
I love the game days gone so if re9 is an open world like that then I'm down for it
I love the idea of an open world resident evil
RE3 remake would definitely of worked with a semi open world in RC. It was such a let down how they made it so short and linear.
1st Dead space nd evil within 1 had basically blank slates
I’m optimistic about this not sure what it be like but I trust capcom they have been on a roll with their remakes
I hope it has a part of city streets of zombies in that would be fun
This is either going to be really good or really bad.
Yep, no inbetween.
I just wanna be able to see enemies that are coming from my back.. 😭😭😭
As long as they include a boulder-punching contest minigame I'm good with it...
I don’t care what they do as long as it’s in VR. I’ve been spoiled by 7, 8 and 4 in VR that I don’t think I could ever play another resident evil without it. Hope it’s there at launch 🙏
9 should go third person in the way the remakes are. 2 and 4make are the pinnacle of capcoms efforts
I personally love Resident Evil series as semi open world rather than full world but the concept might be good but if rumors are true it can be like Far Cry type game.
Far cry type mean full of side quest and collectibles which make game more big in terms of length and sometimes repetitive
I don’t mind being open world as long as the fear factor is there. I would prefer a semi open world just like God of War where u come back multiple times to an area with multiple scenaristic events happening not only on the destination area but also on the way. The evil within 2 was nice implementing that. They could improve upon that. I feel like that is how RE 3 remake should have been.
Interesting
RE9 = Fallout 4 survival w/ horror mods
I hope that this time, there would be more action like resident evil 4..I loved resident evil 4 remake.
My concern with open-world Resident Evil is: how are they going to maintain the tension? Nevertheless, I'm intrigued by the idea.
I’m currently playing through the RE games for the first time!! They’re on my channel if you wanna watch, I couldn’t play them growing up so I’m joining the fandom late 😅🙃
Open world depends.. I mean Racon City open world similar to Arkham.. sure maybe.. but that wouldn’t be possible as a sequel 😅
I’m of two minds. The supportive side of me appreciates they want to try something new. The objection side of me thinks “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
Nope no custom characters.
Only RE characters
I can’t fuckin wait
Everyone keeps flipping out about it being OPEN WORLD!!!! Every RE is essentially open world, just very, very small ones.. open world is something you can explore, and go back to areas you started in.. it's not linear like something like Uncharted where you play through a level/chapter, and can't go back. The Spencer mansion is a sense is OPEN... now I wouldn't consider them OPEN WORLD.. but Village basically is.. there's a lot to explore, and wander around, and retrace your steps... I think RE9 is just going to be slightly bigger than Village, and give us a bit more freedom.. I'm thinking an open world upgrade similar to Arkham Asylum to Arkham City.. People expecting this to be like a GTA open world are out of their minds. Not happening. I doubt there's drivable vehicles even. I bet it's just a small city to explore, ditching the VILLAGE, or WOODS vibes the previous games had, and go into a more urban environment. As someone who makes VR content, I can't WAIT to see more on this, you KNOW they're making it in VR as well.
Blood bourne style might be decent
I don't do gore well, because blood makes me sick. So this isn't my usual jam. But I will say, I'm very confused by everyone hating open worlds so much. Anybody who can explain what's wrong with it so long as the story is good, and there's lots of stuff to do, I'd appreciate it. You say open world I think YES GIVE ME! I'm actually way less likely to buy something linear. Or is this more about this particular franchise not being a good fit for open world? Not harping on those who love linear games. Just curious as to why open world is so reviled.
The reason why people are wary is because what capcom does amazingly is level/map design it gives the game an incredible atmosphere it gives the player a sense of immersion but people are scared that it’s going to be alot of nothingness and basically a walking simulator like alot of games recently
Which honestly after the recent resident evil games I’m confident will not happen capcom have been absolutely smashing the new games and remakes out of the park
Hopefully they just start a fresh with the characters.
Opportunity to create new legends
Make it like out brake that would be cool 😎
Going to feel more like dead rising if anything
I'm not sure if I like the idea of an open world RE game. How will it impact the horror elements of the game?
Im not sure that theyd be competent enough for good traversal.
Adding to that, im stunned that scott didnt like the traversal in horizon, hands down the best traversal in an open world game, gta, red dead, elden ring, witcher 3 arent nearly as good.
Give us more RE!!!
Days Gone is the best open world ever for me. I hope RE9 does better
I need more Dino crisis.
Im skeptical on this move of course. My concern is that it is going to absolutely destroy the core feeling of the genre: claustrophobic fear inducing, dreary tight spaces with unknown horrors waiting to snatch you up.
I am NOT a fan of this idea, but also intrigued.
I just hope it’s optionally local co-op or online I’m tired of the solo stuff now need more games to play with friends lol. Hell just go ahead and make a resident evil online I will be ok with that too lol
So Dead Island?
Se dice que lion será unos de los protagonistas del re9 estoy emocionado:)
We want all the characters verity in open world hunk Leon Chris Jill everyone add tanks aswel
resident evil outbreak remake please
Give me Resident Evil 4 remakes environment with a day and night cycle with weather implemented, and we are good environment wise.
If they want to this "open world" give how much lore resident evil spans back. They have be on par with how the new god of war games did it. With the story telling, lore bit, áreas, how during gameplay the characters talked and interacted. It has to be that quality to be successful.
Resident Evil has used world story telling through design and in-game messages long before God of War. Alot of chatter will kill the sense of tension especially since they would have to sacrifice more time with said tension for talking. And you can't get attacked until after the talking. Then it becomes formuliac and scripted.
It's about time ...
Horror literally can’t work without heavily curated encounter design, That’s why P.T was the best horror experience ever made. So it will just be a gory action game but it could be cool.
an open world game will NEVER be scary EVER that's why village isnt scary at all... how can you be scared when your just sprinting around a giant empty village looking for collectables.
You sure know a lot about the game, considering it hasn’t even been announced yet. Maybe wait until we see the game first before making definitive conclusions about it?
@@matthewzang6688 NO, I prefer to have a discussion about it so if you don't mind f*cking off then.
@@matthewzang6688 All im saying is the game will not be scary bro, how can you build suspense when there is no way of knowing how the player will navigate the world. Its just common sense, RE8 and RE4 remake aren't scary either, which is fine because they aren't supposed to be. I'm sure the game will still be good it just won't be scary.
I hope it's an interesting open world at least, and I hope there isn't a custom character creator. That wouldn't fit RE in My opinion.
Resident evil outer space 🪐 would be great
It better not be 1st person. Keep it over the shoulder 3rd person.
If they just keep trying new stuff every time I’m afraid it will fall into an assassins creed type rut but ima play it cuz I always do…
I feel like open world is fine
Most of the resident evil games are kind of open world already just not 100% what u would call open world as in a huge map other resident 8 was the most open world one they kind of already made and I’m sure the new one will be like that but bigger probably just more areas
Can't wait 🔥🔥🔥
I’ll give it a miss then. Gave up on FF7 rebirth because of open world fatigue.
Oh god. Why? Of course…
We need Jill Valentine as the main character of RE9
This is a monstrous mistake. I had hoped they had come to their senses by now…
9:40 HELL NO!! If they are going to do a another Remake. DO CODE VERONICA!!!!! We don't need RE5 or 6.
If the RE franchise starts sporting huge open worlds and "customizable characters", I'll hold you both personally responsible. Watch your back.
I really hate the idea of open world RE.
RE3 original you could argue was semi-open world but it still had a linear story.
This will probably be the first RE I would pass on since the very first RE for PS1 was released.
Why do they keep fucking with the formula?
Did RE6 or RE: Verse teach them nothing??
Why do they keep changing things 😫
Open world RE with RPG elements? TAKE MY MONEY!
Resident Evil 3 Remake should’ve been an open world environment imo but instead we got a piss poor remake with an online multiplayer game that no one asked for.
how about GHOSTWIRE TOKYO?? thats open world horror?!!!!
It might seem obvious, but it will depend on the quality of the open world vs. size. For RE, I picture something like the smaller open world segments of Uncharted 4, and Lost Legacy. Big enough to where you need a vehicle to get around, but not as big as something like Horizon Forbidden West, or GTA. More curated, but with enough space it doesn't feel like it's on rails. If they can strike this balance, I think a lot of fans will be happy? But again, it comes down to the quality of the open world, and how Capcom curates that experience to deliver both action and survival horror.
