hate how WB is getting in their own way, the game is solid fun and has so much potential but is bogged down by greed smh.
That’s the painful part. Player First Games at their foundation made a fun game. WB and their disgusting practices made this unplayable. The grind + the blatant “spend 4x what a game is worth to get some of the roster” has even made my kids say no thanks.

We only have ourselves to blame for this. Everyone complains about micro transactions, but we don’t stop spending real money to get in game stuff. People need to stop using micro transactions, or stop complaining about them. That’s all there is to it. If they don’t make money off of micro transactions, we can potentially make them go away.
Hard with free games, if the game itself is good fans want to support it, to grow, only way it will.

Screwing over players is basically the model now for most of the Video Gaming industry. From insane prices to micro transactions they've dug their own greedy little graves.

Being honest I probably won't play the next Elder Scrolls game because it will likely be loaded down with loot boxes and micro transactions. I'll stick with Skyrim where I can play the game without having to keep paying over and over again.

@@majrgaming2633I’ve been playing religiously and I’ve also completed 3 rifts to completion “basically”. The problem is the time. I had zero fun with them after the first time and really sat and considered how long I’d have to force myself through the rest to get a character two weeks early. It immediately killed my interest. If agent smith was a month or two wait then maybe it would have been worth. But as it is now it definitely feels like your choice is only play rifts indefinitely or wait and pay. That being said, I’m more into the pvp aspect so maybe it’s not so bad if you are only interested in solo stuff. To each their own but this game isn’t exactly built for pve as much as it’s meant to be an addition. It’s not sitting right with a lot of people so there’s definitely an issue there.
@@chad540996 I only took issue with the “seemingly impossible” part at the time, I wasn’t trying to speak on how fun it is, even at that i will say crushing difficulty can be pretty difficult at times, so I have to see how this rift mode plays out before i can say if it’s too hard as a whole or not, it can be very repetitive so I’m not saying it’s perfect or anything, but it’s also optional so it’s not like it’s required or anything

WB is in the race to the bottom.
The main two issues I have are the frequent desync I and other people have during matches and progressing through the battle pass. You can only progress by completing the limited challenges. Once you finished them, there's no reason for me to play until the next day.
The desync issues also count towards loses which really sucks. Even if your teammate wins, you still lose. Not to mention rift battles count towards your total wins career wise

The EU I think has done a much better job actually addressing these issues than other governments. What these usual suspects game companies, EA & WB, are doing is tantamount to gambling targeting children. There is no other way to describe it.

If you didn't get the Founder's Pack you're in for a terrible grind to get characters. Those tickets were so valuable they discontinued them, yet they're still on accounts for Founders with their Golden Toast banners.

The best Free-to-Play game I've ever played was Gotham City Imposters. Super fun, didn't beat you to death with currencies, and then it was gone, like a memory of a dream....

The very final point you made bares repeating... just like you said WB did this with MK11, MK1, Suicide Squad, etc. They're going to keep doing this door-in-face style "negotiation" with their customers because it keeps working. Fans keep coming back time and time again. So why should they change their business model. It's working for them for now. And that for now part is extra insidious, because as a mega-corp their only concerns are quarterly earnings. So they're going to gauge now and worry about the fallout later.
Don't comment often on this channel but have to give credit that these guys are so down to earth and spit facts which is such a breath of fresh air.

Thank god people are talking about this stuff. Everything they have in the game is so expensive for no reason like skins were so cheap in the beta idk why I have to pay like 25 bucks for a terrible skin now. Hopefully people don't buy anything and force them to lower the prices.
The grind for Smash Bros Ultimate was quite timely. However, I paid $60, and although grindy, I never had to pay a dime more. Then they had a pass for the other 6-7(?) fighters. Why does Nintendo have this down pat but no one else can figure it out?
40-80 hours to unlock a character is definitely false. I played for a couple hours and was able to unlock a character. Ive played only 8 hours in total and can almost get Joker. Would've already gotten him if i didnt use some of my currency to get a couple of other characters.
I think the game boosts newer player's XP gain to give the illusion of easier unlocks until you're already hooked.
@NarfLarf idk cuz other players have put a lot of hours in and still unlock characters pretty fast.
@JayAG313 people did the math, and it should be around 32 hours if you are super efficient, and close to 80 if you aren't. If you or anyone else got it faster, you are either getting boosted or lost track of time because the math seems legit.

It's 100% false. I played the beta on my Xbox, and the full release on my PS5, and it says I have 6 hours on PS5. In those 6 hours, I have over 6000 Character tokens. They're doing something wrong.
It does not take 80 hrs to unlock Joker LOL. These dudes did not play that much. If you do the Rifts, Daily Missions, Events, and Level up the fighters you get that 6K currency pretty quick
The main issue currently is the Battle Pass progression and not able to use all the Fighters in Training mode
Exactly in the past week I’ve only managed to play around 2-3 hours a day probably not even that and I’ve got nearly 3 and already had 3 beforehand which I used to get Rick

This is how Warner Bros Discovery is. Making as much money as they can in the short term is their entire business plan right now, because they need that money on hand to pay off the massive debt hole they're in. So any product they put out is going to be geared, first and foremost, toward making the most money possible as quickly as possible - even if that means cutting short the lifespan of that product. Multiversus is doomed to be monetized aggressively, it's players milked dry, and then being unceremoniously shut down the instant that it isn't making enough of a profit to justify keeping it running. Which is a shame because it's a fun game and both the players and the developers deserve better.

Some games don’t even allow you to unlock characters Via progression hints to call of duty and MK I’m happy that progression based unlocks are back in video games regardless of the time

Games like this should have to reclassify themselves as Demos and not Free to Play. A consumer will never have a quality, full-game experience without paying. These video game companies are drug cartels, offering a consumer a free taste and hoping to get the consumer hooked, and then pushing their product on the consumer as much as possible to get them addicted and constantly buying as much as possible. It's gross, primarily, as many of these games are targeted toward children.
So, I heard a story a few months ago which shows how BS the Free to Play arguement is in reality. Apparently, a Minister got arrested for stealing around $48,000 from the church coffers. The Reason? He was playing Candy Crush Saga.

Damn, Warner Brothers! Trying to one-up EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2. Not only by a little bit, but actually doubling the amount of time to unlock a character in Multiverses than what was needed in Battlefront 2 (80 vs 49 hours).
Somebody is trying to reach the top of the leaderboards for being the biggest stain on the gaming industry.
I paid for the Batman skin and I emailed them and still haven’t received an email back . Still no clean Batman skin.
The only thing you “have to” pay for are cosmetics. You can earn all characters by playing the game. All perks can be earned by playing the game. I played the beta I got 99% of my content back I’m only missing a banner that I’ve noticed. As far as fighter currency while you don’t get much per match by doing quests you get lots I’ve earned like 20,000ish in a week and I work a lot I haven’t been able to invest as much time as I wanted to. The whole idea of monetization ruining the game is blown way out of proportion
Path of Exile always comes to mind whenever this F2P topic comes up.
That game made millions just selling cosmetics and bigger player stashes. That's it. You can play that game over and over again with any build you want 100% for free. You only pay to look cool and hoard more items.
Having to actually play the rifts to to progress isn't my problem, it's the gem leveling to unlock harder difficulties. Rifts are pretty unfun at the lower difficulties.
I was able to get Iron Giant after a few minutes of playing.

Yeah you can get enough currency for one character quickly at first but after that things really slow down
What makes this game great is that PFG is generally transparent and they care about what the community thinks a lot more than a majority of other game companies, but, it WB is behind the scummy monetization, PFG has very little control over it. Theres a lot riding on the shoulders of the 16 devs who made this game to fix it, and I hope they do.

WB's video game division needs to be gutted and reorganized when corporations like Ubisoft, and especially EA aren't doing half of the greedy cash grabbing that WB is doing with their latest projects is just sad.
i just realized that since u cant practice with the characters u dnt own it means that u have to save up the currency to unlock a character u may never even want to play.
The game plays like garbage now. It was so smooth, fun, and competitively layered before. Now everything is slow, stiff, unengaging, with horrible input buffers and deadspots in the control stick if you dont manually change controls.

I am so glad I never get into these types of games. I play solo. Just got back into PS stuff a few months ago with a PS5. Played Spiderman 2, GTAV (hadn't played since XB360), and now focused on Yakuza Like a Dragon. Pay once, play a story for 40+ hours. No needing to keep paying $ to unlock constant new stuff like a simple figure. A full DLC story? Sure I'll fork over some money for that. But a fighter for a game? Nah.
Thank you for speaking on these issues. I loved the beta this new release is so grindy especially only being able to level up the battle pass via challenges and not gameplay. Also character progression is so slow and grindy. The multiverses content creators aren’t even speaking on the monitization issues. They want to talk about theories for new characters instead of the real issues plaguing this game.
It doesn't help that some players are asking if they'll be able to just purchase tiers/unlocks in the future because they don't have the time to play (aka grind the 40-80 hours to unlock some content).

This is why I keep saying the PS2/XBox/GameCube era was the peak gaming era. Once the 360/PS3 era started and online gaming became more prevalent and widespread, it's been all about catering to shareholders who have never held a controller over catering to gamers. The "chasing trends" era started in full force with that 360/PS3 era. It's also the start of the microtransaction era, which has only gotten worse since.
As a free to play player and having a 40+ hour work week i have already got joker and halfway to a 3000 character so i think the whole 80 hours is a bit disingenuous and you can get character tokens from multiple different places than just the pvp battles

Edit: each day was about an hour of playtime so I guess that 80 hours they are talking about are real time days, not playtime
Exactly. You get a ton of the necessary currency by just doing the simple objectives and events. Hell, you get stuff for even just logging in lol
personally Ive enjoyed the rifts as an inclusion. it gives me a way to knock out mostly of my dailies without having to worry about super sweaty people in multiplayer
What kill it immediately was that on the beta you could use all characters on local multiplayer. Now you can't. So whats the point
Remember when it was just gold and gleamium? Yeah when the beta is better than full launch we really gotta look at leadership. PFG is extremely communicative with the community but to rebuild the game for the sake of the Netcode on a completely different engine is wild to me. GGST initially had delay until they reworked it for rollback but MVS was already on it so iterating and improving doesn't require the changing of UE4 to UE5 is inefficient and poor leadership. The beta could've benefited massively from features present now and incorporated into the foundation the UE4 Open beta established. The battlepass progression was not egregious as it is now but could've used some work. The real topic of conversation amongst the monetization present, but was the engine swap justified?
Please look into and make another video about how many beta/founder players are missing some/most/all of the items they bought/earned in the beta, yet the team is remaining silent about it.
The really sad thing is if you push back the investors (the actual customers) will drop off like flies, that's happened to a few games like Diablo 3. Plus pump and dumps are all the rage in finance these days, they're literal get rich quick schemes. So why wouldnt they do that to games they dont care about?

The best free to play models for gaming that I have encountered are Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel and Team Fortress 2 (before the bot apocalypse ruined it).
Master Duel makes it pretty reasonable to collect cards and build decks to challenge the meta or be casual without spending a penny. The option to buy the gem currency with real money is there but the game doesn't make it a grindy time sink as it is very generous in awarding players with gems for free just for playing the games various modes normally
I find the free to play model of master duel to be a gold standard for reasonable ftp models with in game monetization; The most reasonably designed ftp game I ever played. I got every card and deck could want and got it all for free with minimal time expended to acquire said cards
After putting 25 hours into the release, completing two experienced rifts, completing daily and event quests everyday, playing a multitude of PvP games, and leveling up 5 characters to level five, I was able to unlock the joker. I could not imagine trying to unlock a character without doing ALL of these steps. I enjoy the core gameplay but at this point after the failures of MK1 and SSKTJL, WB is going to monetize this game into the ground
Its wild how normalized its become to even spend that much money for a character or skin. Before when this all started it was like $5-10. And even that was deemed a stretch by some people. Youd be hard pressed to find them that "low priced" now. And people will die on that hill and justify this stuff is the crazy.
Another thing is that, under most circumstances, most people would play these types of games for hours and days on end normally. But because the battlepass has added a latee of FOMO and "gotta get it done quick", to the point it becomes a job and you have to log in constantly and play constantly to unlock stuff it makes it more stressful. Ive heard more people talk about playing this constantly for unlocks rather than them having fun with it.
The thing is though, this will never change. At least not here in the West. The only way for it to change is if the govt was the step in and force a change like what some other countries did for Battlefront loot boxes. The industry and the people who run it and have power cannot be trusted to make those changes and realistically have no reason to make significant changes or stop. But when the govt steps in to stop them, normal people, not even the execs, but normal freaking people get tight about it and that they are overstepping their boundaries even if its to their benefit. When again, the industry isnt going to change itself. Even if they listen to an outcry and make some changes, its always minor and more so them finding loopholes to do it, but to a smaller degree.

As much as I dislike the new monetization it's nowwhere near 80 hours to unlock a new character. I'd say maybe 10ish hours a character possibly less depending on what challenges you do, just wanted to clear that up
Kind of crazy. I work a 40hr/week job and was able to unlock joker no problem with like 4 other characters. As far as the rift system it's great and it having missions locked behind certain prerequisites isn't a problem. You eventually get them as rewards. Blah. Such a fun game
I don't get the grind part. I've been playing for a week (I have a life btw) and have all but 4 characters unlocked. I did the 1st 2 levels on the 2 rifts and 1v1s.
Insane companies
The game doesn’t even control that well. The controls are super clunky and the flow feels staggered with animation delays. The hits don’t feel like they have much weight to them.
Im enjoying the game, but im starting to notice that it does take forever to unlock stuff without paying. This game is very greedy and i know it but i enjoy it too much to stop.
What else is new?
I wonder if capping salaries and bonuses for executives to 10 million a year would allow the developers to get paid better? Then the executives would only be making an exorbitant amount more than the president, not borderline infinitely more, but they'd get by
I always thought F2P games had a stigma around them. I’d say the game should’ve been $30 from the get go and all the monetization BS gone.

it does NOT take more than 10 hours to unlock joker...if you choose to ONLY play PVP and not the rifts then that's the players fault....I got enough currency to buy joker after like 5-6 hours of playing....ive done like 10 PVP games and finished a rift fully and started on the other 2..Just do challenges within rifts and PVP and play rifts in general and your chilling with fighter currency and unlocking characters. However its still really shitty that their keeping stuff beta players unlocked such as characters and cosmetics away from them.
Literally, just use fighter tickets or whatever they’re called the little tickets that instantly unlock whatever character you want to spend them on. I already have a joker already have every character visibly showing on the roster at the moment. didn’t have to pay a thing, and got all of them on day two of the games release. Why day two because that’s about how long it took me to figure it out for myself that that was a possibility. I didn’t really look into it that much before that so it’s kind of my fault, but come on people it took me less than a day meeting. It’s really surprising if there wasn’t anyone who figured it out on day one.
They already lied, i was annoyed when they took the game away after i paid a special package for it. Oh how naive I was. No more pre-ordering for me. That game can close as far as I care.
30+h as a freetoplay and i'm close to unlock my 3rd character. This game have so many problems and missing features
Free to play/pay to win is just an absolute grift... They show no respect for fans and their time/money, but also the ethos of fun that is supposedly at gaming's core.
Proper, functionally supplemental DLC is where the line should be. Not this insodious crap.
I think the only games of this monetization trope I've played a Pokemon Go and Unite, and Mario Kart Tour. The only microtransaction I've done was pokeballs in Go, and I felt so crap I turned away from it.
Original cuts of games should be totally "on disc" or under subscription, and microtransactions etc really should be reviwed/possibly banned.
