Miller is great at telling a story without dialog. Really respects the audience to be paying attention and actors to show what he wants. I don't need you to explain how shit is going all the time. In Fury Road their is the 40 minute-ish arc where Max and Furiosa slowly go from wanting to kill each other to trusting and relying on one another and they never talk about it but you 100% understand how their relationship is changing and its current status the whole time.

You have Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, Kubrick, Scott but so rarely does George Miller get mentioned. I sort of put George Miller in the same category as a James Cameron simply because he doesn’t make a movie very often but when he does, it’s like holy sh*t! This is on another level! Miller is pushing 80 years old and is making other action directers look like kids playing with sticks in the neighbors backyard. You'll rarely hear action/sci-fi directors put on "greatest of all time", sometimes even Animation directors get more prestige.
Which is funny because the core of cinema ia the ability to tell a story in moving images, even iver dialogue or any other words.
The one advantage of cinema is telling a story in moving pictures, while books and other mediums focus on words. But somehow, cinemaphiles have forgotten that and the many of the public give more credit to directors that give dramatic stories, even if their actual images on camera are bad stories scene after scene.

I dont think people on the interwebz have watched the movie and are simply judgmental just for the heck of it.
Furiosa is a cinematic masterpiece that has left me speechless!
The time and patience one has to dedicate their life, in making a lifetime work, coupled with an unquenchable thirst to provide sheer awe and cinematic brilliance technically and emotionally, stands out at every single minute throughout the movie.
Apocalyptic genres are quite easy to enact, since they require an astute understanding of how humans operate on baseline consciousness. George Miller did a fantastic job at delivering this exact sentiment. I am overall pleased with the aesthetic cinematic treatment compared to its predecessor for continuity and not overdoing with CG.
Dramatic pacing and character introduction is given justice with sufficient screen time to develop their story arcs and finale plot. The wasteland is merciless and spares nobody.

The only immersion breaking scene was a dog scene. Every other CGI scene seemed seamless

@@chibidakis1No... The moment Furiosa's mother climbs the horse, every bike crash, every car crash, everytime someone got shot out of a vehicle and so on and on... This movie was full of terrible CGI. I even though it was a totally different production crew that made it. It looker DC level of bad CGI.

Not really. In the actual film the vast majority is seamless and on par with Fury Road. Both had VFX in basically every shot but you notice just a handful in Furiosa which might have been rushed and those are the ones you remember.

@@JoeLancaster some day, when Furiosa comes out on streaming, or DVD, a person will make a list of noticably CGI scenes. Like Jack and Furiosa on the mountain. Or like what Jeremy showed with the bullets and Hemsworth. Or the entirety of Abundand town. But it is not today.

Does the movie explain how Furiosa ended up losing....
...the overly wide gap between her eyes?

George Miller was originally trained as a medical doctor. FYI

Mad Max 1 was supposed to be about an EMT loosing his sanity after loosing patients, friends and family. But his profession was changed to an MFP cop since it was unrealistic to have an EMT’s family be targeted by criminals.

Great review, can't wait to see this! I've already purchaed two IMAX tickets for this Sunday morning with my 17 year old daughter (it is rated R afterall) so I can share Mad Max with her. I saw the first one, The Road Warrior in 1982 as a 12 year old by when my older sister smuggled me in the trunk of her car to the drive in movie theater. Movie changed my life and I've been a fan ever since. I even have a Mad Max vanity plate. :). Well done George Milller, please don't wait another 8 years (he is 80 years old now) for the next one!

The man who sold the world is top 3 favorite songs of all time for me and I somehow did not notice it in the trailer. Thanks for pointing it out 👍

I always love your take on movies. I don’t know all the reasons such that I could list them out, but I only take my cues from you and one other reviewer (guess which?) and he always talks about filmmaker stuff.
You talk about what I want to know for sure. I don’t think we’ve disagreed once yet. Not that I can remember.

Imagine a Furiosa game, with her arm being upgradable for melee, the war rig with a full convoy of war boys, all her hairstyles and outfits, etc. it probably couldn’t be canonical but neither was the first game.
