    Dump pouch all the way. I train 80% reloads with dump pouch. Very important for a civilian to have a dump pouch to retain all of your empty mags if used, if you can. You cannot buy more or be resupplied with more. You’re on your own.

    • @pb7087

      You can’t reinsert the mag into your mag pouches?
      A situation where you have enough time to put the mag in your dump pouch, but not enough time to put it follower-up in your mag pouch is ridiculously rare.

    • @mattbaker9836
      @mattbaker9836 2 місяці тому

      @ mag pouch use slows you down a bit in reloads. You have to look, there is a bit of extra movement. But it’s an extra second at most to use. Worth it.
      Putting a magazine back in a mag pouch would require too much time dexterity and effort if in a “speed” reload. If you have buckets of time sure why not I guess.
      I have the belief only magazines with ammunition are in your gear especially you ever find yourself in a shit situation using multiple magazines.

    • @pb7087
      @pb7087 2 місяці тому

      @mattbaker9836 If you’ve tried it out in training scenarios relevant to what you’re expecting and it works for you, that’s great. Always use what works for you. Just trying to provide alternatives to consider for your use cases.
      I just never found a need in any of the firefights I’ve been in. There were sometimes when I’d throw one mag in a cargo pocket. I tried the dump pouch many years ago in Iraq as just a conventional normal guy and it didn’t work well for me. Too much bulk, clanging around with mags in it, and too high of a propensity of shit to fall out of it when moving over walls or diving into prone and such like that.

    • @mattbaker9836
      @mattbaker9836 2 місяці тому

      @ yeah maybe I’ll give it a shot next time I run and gun.
      I know what you mean. Dump pouch is not ideal and can be cumbersome. But as a purely civilian it’s a life line to continued retention of gear. I’ve tried a few different dump pouches nothing is perfect but some are better than others, need to almost play around with some see what works best. So yeah. I would be willing to try getting them back in the pouch….ill be honest never thought of trying that

    1. Navy seals HALO jump everywhere
    2. They keep their cool soo MUCH the enemy cannot cope and therefore cannot return effective fire.
    3. Navy seals don’t even need body armor as they can survive 7.62 NATO ball from battle rifles inside one meter to the face and it only takes out an eyeball( now forcing the navy seal to wear a badass pirate eyepatch)
    4. A navy seal is the only warrior on earth that can take their own life when a Grenade is thrown at them and instead of simply pushing their buddies down or kicking the frag away, they decide to lay down on top of it, so that their fellow navy seals don’t have to lower themselves to the deck.

    First he’s right, the budget for DevGru is ridiculous so they literally had thousands of mags laying around.
    Second he was a SEAL and the DevGru seal, they aren’t having long sustained firefights. They are mostly doing DAs, KC, and hostage rescue.

    • @pb7087
      @pb7087 2 місяці тому +3

      Conventional infantryman here from GWOT. We had plenty of both mounted and dismounted patrols. We also rode in gun trucks and helicopters to our objectives. We didn’t just hit houses/compounds (though we did some of that), but we also did normal infantry stuff with fire and maneuver around farm land, palm groves, etc.
      All that to say I tried a dump pouch back in ‘07 on a deployment and hated it. It snagged on shit, clanged around with a couple mags in it, and I couldn’t use it for any sensitive site exploitation evidence because we needed to use evidence bags for that stuff. And when doing infantry stuff like going prone or climbing over walls (low profile style), stuff would fall out.
      Also turned out, it was just as easy to put my empty/low mags back in my mag pouches with the follower up. There was never a firefight reload with such immediate urgency that I couldn’t put an empty mag bag in my mag pouch. If I ever did encounter a scenario that meant I didn’t have time to put an empty mag away, oh well, I lost a mag but saved my life as I let it fall to the ground. But that would be a ridiculously rare scenario for almost anybody.

Then some genius invented dump pouches! How cool is that? No need to have irritating mags rattling around in your shirt. FFW to SF, fk yeah we used dump pouches. Unless you’re stuck on an object and you get a helo resupply or imagine an air drop resupply, do you think they’re gonna preload your mags for you?

Stopped using it since then. I’ve seen taller guys get snagged up on door handles etc. I haven’t missed it. Most of us reload with retention from the furthest mag pouch from our speed reload pouch which negates putting in a dump pouch. Not saying they’re inherently bad. When I was in the regular army I used one extensively and after a while figured out there was a better way to skin the cat by managing my gear more efficiently.

    Jesus Christ is it that hard for everyone to split the subject matter? DJ is talking about HIS experience and being a CQB pro!
    For SOF and especially tier 1 HR units where they aren’t on the objective long, speed and surprise is paramount. Do you listen or does it go in one ear and out the other? These dude are literally tailoring pants, not for comfort but for noise. All day everyday is training. Their budget is practically nonexistent and they don’t need to worry about dump pouches. For someone that has 11 years in conventional infantry you should know there isn’t a one size fits all approach. Primary HR units in the US military are on another level where dump pouches aren’t a concern.
    This goes back to the hydra mount. That mount isn’t for everyone. It is specifically for a short rifle where rail space is very limited. Everyone makes fun of it but for 9 inch 300 blackout. It doesn’t get much better if your unit is running NVG’s 24/7 with a laser.

    Thank you for your input. I saw the video about not having a dump pouch. Because I was searching for a good one to buy. Hint, in your description can you show some you recommend. For me it is application and resources. I shoot long distance, bolt gun, specialized magazines for 308. So yes I'm retaining my magazines. Second, a civilian has limited resources. And in a it hit the fan encounter. Does someone really want to go magazine shopping your dead enemy? While reinforcements might be arriving from their side. Because it reminds me of a trap from thousands of years ago. Leaving food in the camp and leaving. The enemy thinks you retreated and left food cooking, so you eat. Only to find out you played your weapons down when the attack you. And the noise issue. I think it rounds are going off, the enemy maybe knows your are there. So thank you for your rebuttal post. Im sure the French Resistance kept their magazines if they were luck enough to have an auto long gun magazine fed.

GBRS are speaking from a DEVGRU perspective. I served from 2007-2015 with 4 combat rotations as a grunt. My GWOT experience definitely sides with GBRS on this one. Dump pouches weren’t really needed especially during firefights. You can’t really speak on these topics if you haven’t deployed to a real combat zone. YES, the 75th Ranger Regiment has conduct multi-day operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, period. There are key lessons that Infantrymen learn when conducting extended missions (Training or Combat): establishing Patrolling Bases, Planning, Communicating, Conducting Platoon Missions, Battle Drills, etc. This is why, I encourage EVERY single 11B and Combat Arms Dude to go to Ranger School. I totally understand D.J.'s logic on not picking up an empty magazine during an engagement. Putting hands on an empty mag during a gunfight is probably not the best course of action. It will dramatically reduce reload time and decreases noise retention on a patrol. Unnatural noises in heavily foliaged areas such as woods and forests is a fire teams wet dream (Hey Toto, we're not in Ramadi anymore), plus having empty mags on one's person under stress could lead to a unintentional dry fire situation (which could set up a premature meeting with the ol reaper). Should you wear a dump pouch? Sure, but there is plenty of enough time to go back and lace up your shit after the smoke clears because nobody wants to get clapped with an empty mag in their hand.
