21:10, this was the Tu-154 that did an "accidental belly landing" in Thessaloniki as Malév flight 262 in 4th July 2000. The crew initiated a go around a bit too late after they realized that they didn't extend the landing gear, causing the aircraft to skid about 650 meters on the runway before becoming airborne once again. After an additional low pass (to confirm if the landing gear was down and locked this time), the aircraft landed safely. The accident was caused by the pilots turning off their GPWS system (the mountain tops caused the system to falsely alert them during approach) and since there was a 757 taking off the pilots of the Tu-154 decided to not lower the landing gear and initiate a go around. However the 757 took off and the captain of the Malév flight decided to land anyway, but since the GPWS was turned off and the tower was occupied by observing the 757, no one realized the retracted landing gear until it was too late. Malév was already phasing the Tu-154 out of service and ultimately decided that it was uneconomical to repair the aircraft and donated it the airport's firefighter services who used it as a training vehicle until 2018 when it was cut up for scrap.
1999, these were times, two years before the awful tragic Event of 9/11,and the World screwed up in many things! Thank you very much for putting this wonderful Trailer of Nostalgie 🙏🧡 All the best, Josha 🙋♂️🛩

The Transavia B737-800 at 21:37 was delivered in April 1999 and was still in service for Transavia until April 2024, when it suffered a blow out of one main gears at Schiphol which damaged the fuselage.
29:50 Brought back memories... I was doing my military service in a camp just behind Heraklion airport in 1998 and we used to see such kind of amazing climbs from the Olympic airways pilots several times a day. People were saying that most of them were ex-fighter pilots not able to forget their old ways of flying. I don't know if it is true... :)
Actually, the 737 was not pretty safe back then. I’d say (controversially) that it is actually safer now. Back then it had multiple issues, one of them being the rudder problems.
Actually, the 737 was not pretty safe back then. It had multiple issues such as the rudder problem. I’d actually say (debatable and controversial) that the 737 is actually safer now than it used to be during the -200,-300,-400,-500 years.
WOW! 1999. The good old days... Before the euro, when we had drachmas in our pockets and could actually buy something... Before half of Asia and Africa had moved into Greece... That Greece is forever gone... Good bye Greece and thanks for the memories...
On props, sometimes to save fuel during taxi, they’ll use one engine, shutting it down right after landing, or alternatively, powering it on before takeoff clearance. 😊

Are you all still filming?
@@dillonlexington Yes we are. 90% of our filming is cockpits but we do still film airports on a regular basis.
All the different types, old and new! Not always the same like today A320/B737...

I hope the crew were redeployed to other duties ... like baggage handling 😒
The sound of the Boeing 727 took me back 20+ years! Beautiful old jet. 😍
7:09Edelweiss one of the few still operating, in more or less the same livery
But no A320 left 😢 they had MD-83 as well back then
1/3 of Aegean’s fleet is also in that livery still
@@kevgne6889 They have 14 A320

Cowboy flying more like.
Probably a former HAF F-104 pilot 🙂
Miss you my Olympic my love 💓
Blimey that 737 aat 29:48 started to bank before its undercarriage was even up!
What a variety of classics, beautiful
Wow absolutely amazing!! Very nice video from the glory times of aviation. What a variety of planes!! I flew once with a Crossair MD-83 to Heraklion.
My first ever time flying and first ever time abroad was from Manchester here to Heraklion with Airtours in 1999.This is really nice to watch , the good old days !
Same, but 2 years earlier on board an Air Atlanta Icelandic Tristar :D
Planes involved in accidents/Incidents or such events:
4:59 4X-ATK was damaged beyond repair after emergency landing with right main gear retracted
20:56 PH-HVV was flying under peruvian airlines when right hand main gear collapsed during landing rollout, damaged beyond repair
21:10 HA-LCR did an accidental belly landing during a go-around, minimal damage
41:45 OY-CNO was Flying under Global aviation when two tyres burst on take-off causing the aircraft to return for a safe landing, the aircraft however never flew again
53:17 SE-DUN was Flying under Eastern Airlines when the undercarriage collapsed on aborted take-off
Gosh, the old Crossair, Monarch and Air 2000 airlines. Worked with all of those back in the day!
To see some of them airlines exist today in 2024 is awesome.
8:58Two classic forms of transport there; Boeing 727 and Flying Dolphin hydrofoil
That air 2000 bought back memories, I remember the colour prior as well with the red lettering
I swear theres just 5 at a push 6 airlines that still remain in the game today out of all of these! Thats crazy! (Aegean, Israir, Edelwiess, Condor & Travel Service)
Dont forget Transavia.

a lot of airlines in this vid do not exist anymore
@@MrRocking4everwhy ? Is it cuz of 9/11 made close the majority of European and American Airlines ?
@@JazzyInTheAir_ No

29:50 Brought back memories... I was doing my military service in a camp just behind Heraklion airport in 1998 and we used to see such kind of amazing climbs from the Olympic airways pilots several times a day. People were saying that most of them were ex-fighter pilots not able to forget their old ways of flying. I don't know if it is true... :)

Agreed
Actually, the 737 was not pretty safe back then. I’d say (controversially) that it is actually safer now.
Back then it had multiple issues, one of them being the rudder problems.
Back then the engineers, not the bean counters were in charge!
