There are not to many filmmakers that do brilliant projects like this.. I don't know if I would have went to Savanna if I didn't see this. I know I wouldn't have bought the "Bird Girl" water fountain for both my homes if it wasn't for said movie. The only problem, my raccoons love playing in it!
I worked on this movie for a few weeks. Just for the record: Kevin Spacey was kind and a perfectly respectable gentleman during the entire time. Sorry to hear of his recent troubles ...
Might you shed some light on which house was used for the interior of John Cusack's carriage house room? I know it seems like he stays at that tall Comer House, but the views from his windows aren't from that location. I thought it was on East Jones Street (across from Joe Odom's house), but the windows don't match any of those on that side of the street.
That's how abusive people are. They're not abusive to everyone or else they'd not have the good reputations they do. Him acting one way to and around you doesn't mean he acted that same way to everyone all the time
Daniel Appleton yes, the opening scene of the leaf falling is a shot of Savannah and the bench he is sitting at is Chippewa Square which is in the heart of Savannah’s downtown historic district.
What a great movie-adaptation of the book, well done by all and such a lovely place, Savannah, I had always wanted to see it. This movie absolutely made me go. I was not disappointed.
John Cusack in his thirties, had the ultra-cool look and now I saw one of his latest interviews in which he looks like Werner Herzog 😂😂😂 Although I still adore and admire him a lot!
Two days ago, I stood in the actual room where Jim shot Daniel "Billy". The house looks exactly as Jim left it. His niece now owns the home and lives on the upper level. When I originally watched this movie as a teen, I never thought I would actually stand in the home of Jim Williams. To say it's a beautiful home is a understatement. Everything was surreal.
Remember getting sleep in the Cinemark theater (Plaza milenium in Guadalajara México)z back in 1997....and i was the only one in the room, i will search some day this movie in the streaming apps
What the hell happened to Cusack’s career? The man was steady from his youth for years and years, then it all went downhill and I can’t figure out why or how.
Kevin Spacey is an excellent actor, one of my favourite ones. Good movies he played. Do you remember AMERICAN BEAUTY ❤PAY IT FORWARD ❤ HOUSE OF CARDS ❤ SEVEN ❤ etc. Hope to see him soon in a new movie.
I’m embarrassed to say that I saw the movie a couple of times but didn’t know that it was a book first. I just returned from my first trip to Savannah and a visit to the Williams-Mercer House. The docent told me that I was standing in the exact spot where the murder took place! I bought the 30th anniversary edition of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
The movie was in Savannah, but it's based on Summerville Georgia's Bobby Lee Cook, Esquire. Matlock (Andy Griffith) was based on Bobby too. He lives in Summerville, but has a large practice in Atlanta, Chattanooga, Summerville, Savannah, many places. He's represented the Carnegies, Rockefellers, and other large, well off families. He's close to 90 years old now.
For whatever reason I never saw this movie until last night (weird since it is everything I love: murder, John Cusack, Clint Eastwood). And I thought it was so good! I loved it.
More non southerners in this film than ever before... It's a stars of tomorrow preview. Also IDK... makes the whole area look drunk and campy which is a shame.
This is by far and away one of my favorite movies ever. With it's incredible cast...the Lady Chablis TOTALLY steals the show...this tale of Southern decadence is extraordinarily GOOD. An enormous contributing factor to the movie's excellence is the unquestionably brilliant acting skill of Kevin Spacey. Now, that having been said, I want to take this opportunity to pour scorn on the shark tank feeding frenzy of EVERY SINGLE ONE of the so-called terribly traumatized men who came forward in a veritable flood of #MeToo mentality, claiming he'd done dreadful things to them DECADES after the event supposedly occurred. For MY money, I personally believe that ANYONE, male or female, who supposedly suffers a "horrible traumatic experience", then sits on that knowledge for more than a week, either cares more about "what people will think" or the damage coming forward might do to their career or reputation than they suffer emotionally from the experience they supposedly endured. If your goddam public image or your career means that much, that you'll keep such an awful experience secret, then you're kind of a gutless wonder to begin with...a perpetual victim. These men who have come wailing and beating their breasts about how Mr. Spacey supposedly traumatized them are, each and every one, the living embodiment of Andy Warhol's prediction that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes. IF you've suffered an emotionally destructive experience, why in God's name would you hug that knowledge to yourself for 10, 20, 30 friggin YEARS, and THEN finally grow a set--I'm speaking of these so-called excuses for men--especially when you're the second, third, fourth etc. to publicly do so? Did you HAVE to wait until someone needier, or a worse failure came crawling out of the woodwork? Looking for pity? Looking for some good old fashioned blackmail money? Looking for a boost for your flagging or non-existent career? You phony whistle blowers are just another verse of the song that has been sung since #MeToo gained momentum. I believe that, unless the person making the claim was PROVABLY in actual fear of his/her life, or was a pre-adolescent child, they should have to suck it up, accept that perhaps their lifestyle or social behavior put them at risk, but NOT be able to ruin a person's life DECADES after the so-called trauma occurred. The only crime which DOESN'T carry a statute of limitations is murder...and there's a good reason for that. Now, I'm not saying Mr. Spacey is entirely innocent of the accusations. I'm saying that NO ONE should be the target of knife, after knife, after knife in the guts because some pathetic bunch of attention-seekers are trying to boost a flagging career, or place the blame for being a lifelong failure on someone else.
OMG.....being from the South, it's so annoying and almost funny to hear actors try to immitate a Southern accent. I do have to say, Austin Butler did the best job of getting it right in the movie Elvis.

That trailer sucked. I lost interest 30 sec in when I saw Cusak. Googling the book was more interesting than that. OMG it was so bad it made me go learn something. lol
You based your opinion off of a trailer? 😂 Jokes on you. The book influenced a well known movie star to direct it. The movie starred 2 well seasoned actors (Kevin and John), a show stealing, well loved drag peformer and writer named The Lady Chabliss and an upcoming young actor who went on to become actor. The movie did so well in 1997 that here I am in 2024 in a Airbnb in Savannah responding to your comment after going on a tour based off of this movie. So this movie that you consider to be so boring it's still making the city of Savannah money in 2024. It's a cult classic. People still come to see places that were filmed . So with all that being said you might want to watch it before you judge it.
One can tell that Kevin Spacey truly enjoyed playing this role.
One can only assume
In a rump roasters paradise
He also enjoyed that young boy he got caught with.
Kevin Spacey is a pervert
This is in our top 10 movies. Great cast, and great performances.

This has to be one of my most favorite movies ever❤
The movie that will finally help you tell the difference between Kevin Spacey and John Cusack.
ONe likes to sexual harrass people and the other doesn't?
The difference on acting style. Spacey is more consistent, but Cusack is widely dispersed
So that's not Edward Norton? Oh ok
This is where Daniel Craig got the accent.

ha! Who would have thought we had all seen the real Kevin Spacey in the 90's already. Talk about typecasting.
I was born at a memorial , no one talks like that here. That Virginia tide water accent is long gone.
It’s alive and well in far northeast NC, both inner and outer banks.
I love this cast

Sonny Seiler. Bought a UGA bulldog from one of his champion breeds. Named him Herschel.

One of the top movies of 1997, but got a bad rap because of "ways" the writers took the story away from the book to the screen.

No it's not. It's based on a book by the same name. Which is based on real events that happened in Savannah.
