My view on the drams as a Witcher fan who has read all of the short stories, the book series, played the games, watched the show etc.: from a lore perspective, everything they've added with female characters is totally lore appropriate. If they had added female Witchers besides Ciri, I would have been really upset, but they made everyone happy. Mages are very much like mercenaries and follow coin, very similar to Witchers but a different path to get there. They don't form a more cohesive structure until much later in the timeline. Regarding Ciri, the third game establishes she travels across space and time. There is even suggestion at the end of the game she traveled to Night City in the Cyberpunk universe. Going back in time is definitely something established.

A great video and a very informative one. I love how you break everything down. Go On Board said that the neoprene play mat is going to be 20% bigger the the base board. They said that the play mat will accommodate the skellige expansion, the mage expansion, and the bigger monster cards and more room for the monsters to roam. As always, stay safe and happy gaming.

Question for you regarding the decision points in the adventure cards.
What makes a decision feel impactful rather than just randomly choosing an option and hoping for the best? Is there context for the player to make a somewhat informed decision and to have a general idea of what repercussions a decision will have?

    • @BoardGameCo
      @BoardGameCo  3 роки тому +2

Sometimes it will feel random, but as I played I got more of a sense of things. To give one example, there was one round where I knew that next round I wanted to fight a monster, so I wanted to be prepared. And I was given a choice of "you hear a ruckus outside, do you help or get a good night's rest". I figured rest might let me draw cards to prepare for next round....and sure enough, I walked into the fight with 2 extra cards based on an instinctive response. The other choice likely would have lost me a shield, but given me a reward...another time I'd want that...not before a monster fight.

And for the people who are not pleased, destroy the card that is not truthful to your law but let others have fun with the card or charakter. So you are happy and the others are happy, too. + Making a another 1 or 2 new Witcher Schools specifically for Female Witchers. For examples:
    - School of Siren. Mysterious Witcher School with possible female witchers.Excellent in aard signs & covert operations as bards.
    - School of Spider. Mysterious Witcher School with with possible female witchers. Excellent with traps & also use a multiple short javelin as secondary weapon.

You are right that a lot of people are forgetting about the IP licensing cut. CDPR is providing a lot of staff to this project (see near bottom of the page), mostly artists and story, but this project has A LOT more staff involved than most projects. This is a big production, and with big productions comes more wages, which means it costs more. A lot of people don't seem to understand this. The game is being produced in 15 languages. This is a huge game campaign. When this finally comes out, anyone trying to sell this will easily get their money back. As the TV show gets bigger, this will become a hotter property. When a new Witcher game gets released, this will just become an even more desired acquisition. Easy back.

I keep going back and forth between the standard and deluxe pledge. I think the minis would really bling out the game, but on the other hand they don't move or anything. The $70ish dollars is a pretty big jump in my opinion. Not saying it's not fair, but it's hard for me to justify because it's only cosmetic. Normally I would go all in...these expansions though are kind of a bummer in my eyes. If I get one it might be the legendary hunt at retail, but then again would it bother me if I didn't have minis for all the other monsters?

I can't say that I agree with some of the points you make here. I personally don't see myself enjoying this game from the many gameplays I've watched so I've went from a day 1 back at deluxe, to core, to 1 Euro to out. I also cannot support 3 exclusive minis only available at the all in pledge either, you should be able to pick what you want and not be held to FOMO ransom at the highest tier with items you don't want. You have actually argued against that in previous videos, so I'm surprised you are so positive on it here. At the end of the day, I just look at this and say, maybe the core game because those extra miniatures are way too much per piece, but the gameplay doesn't grab me. I generally like either deluxe or all ins, and I look at this game and say, "Is this worth well over $200 plus shipping for deluxe, and well over $400 plus the shipping for all in?(in my currency, not Euros) And in the end I say it's clearly not for me, it just has an IP that I'm fond of, and if it was for me I'd be at the core pledge and call that more than enough.

Theres a lot of content at the base pledge but I do feel as though the Deluxe Edition flair is necessary ha so that's where I sit. There is a lot of compatibility mess when it comes to the add on boxes. Considering that and the high cost of the expansions I've decided to stay away from them myself.

  • @firechickenreviews

Interesting review of the value, concur with your findings for this one. I would even dare say for the base pledge with no minis at 70 Euro with reduce shipping for each additional game that it may be worth those willing to risk it investing in an additional copy to flip or have excellent trade value.
I am currently in at All In for this campaign myself though I will say this is purely due to the FOMO of the ALL in kickstarter exclusives otherwise I would have recommended most wait for most of the expansion material at retail. Still a bit disappointed they chose that last 3 mini for all in only versus giving it as bonuses for those who got said expansions but I understand the marketing behind it and interesting enough for those who want raise value of KS exclusive since there will be significantly less people going all in they are technically more rare mini expansion.

Two card rows is not bad. There are a ton of games that do that successfully. If the minis are good quality (like, KDM level) then 2euros/mini is a steal, if they are more like Awakened Realms, it is still a decent price, but could be better. Been following this since the beginning. Totally agree with your assessment in the end. I'm going for the All-In (not the newest All-in with playmat, etc.) which is honestly not the smartest move. I am super disappointed that the Deluxe does not have 1 or 2 more things added to it that became add-ins. They've sold enough of this game where the miniature molds are not an issue in price anymore. To have only miniatures be the Deluxe content is a tough pill for me to swallow to buy a game centered around one of my favorite IPs. I was REALLY hoping the deluxe coins and even the new dice (revealed today) would have been in the Deluxe as the campaign moved along. I'm honestly super surprised they didn't include the coins in the Deluxe unless they are super high quality. Grievances aside, I'm hoping the expansions get tweaked (especially Skellige) to add a little bit more to the game and just hoping to have fun with this when it comes to the table in a year+. Thanks Alex for all of your constant updates from before the Kickstarter, to I'm sure after!
Edit - Also, great comment about the IP being owned by someone else. We have no idea how much of a percentage they will be taking in the end. This also should always be thought of with the total cost.

As someone who has commented in the comment section of the Witcher a couple of times (2 times politely asking if GOB could release more information on the Wild Hunt as it is completely opaque as to what this will actually do.... last time saying that if they can't give an update in 24 hours, I'm afraid I'll have to downgrade my pledge -> trying to be as civilised as possible) I also helped some people out with their questions. All comments I got back were nice & civilised - though some shared my disappointment in not getting any info on the Wild Hunt. But a very helpful person said: don't cancel your pledge, lower it to $1 - then you keep the access to the pledge manager. Which I've followed. I found it actually better than I expected.
My point is - I think a LOT were civilised in there... it's just some that are 🙄🤮- but if you scroll a lot, you'll see a lot of bile... which makes you maybe think that there is more of that there than there is.

For a game that is confirmed to go into retail and with the very little KS exclusives on offer.. I feel like there is a consideration that you overlooked besides the online price being 70-85% of MSRP.
That is for the adult audience here (or in fact anyone that generates their own hard-earned cash to buy BGs), there is a lot of value to hold onto your own cash for 1-2 years and then to buy the game in retail with the unlimited potential of discounts and supply since they confirmed retail and the low amount of KS exclusives to miss out on. Especially in difficult times of the pandemic or simply the fact that you'll be locked into 1-2 years of opportunity cost subject to that pledge amount.
For that reason, I feel the purpose of this video was really to express your appreciation of the game and your intent to support at this campaign stage. No right or wrong but it's just an observation.
I personally really wanted to back the game play all in pledge but pulled out the campaign entirely because I genuinely do not feel the sincerity that other campaigns and developers brought to the KS scene in comparison to GoB.

I want both! But $140 for both is expensive!!! I'm wondering which game feels more complete with all miniatures. Also, it sounds like to get the deluxe minis from the witcher one must buy the deluxe version, even later at retail. But the extra miniatures for VSS Vanguard can be bought later separately (oh no forgot about the stretch goals, not sure SG miniatures will be in the retail version)...

Just jumped straight to the "Should You Back it?" section because i don't care about that game anyways.
The only thing I currently look at is "Robot Quest Arena".
But here the price is insanely high for what one gets.
    7x painted minis 40mm
    7x player boards
    1x game board
    250x cards
    22x game tiles
    117x acrylic gems
    = $89 + $12 shipping + EU VAT
    Valor & Villainy Deluxe
    10x mini 30mm
    10x Standees
    9x Double layered player boards
    33x map tiles
160x small cards (spell / treasure)
    56x bigger minion cards
    142 cardboard tokens
    18x engraved dice
    1x 40mm metal token
    1x gametrays insert
    = 59$ + $14 shipping
I guess the painted minis make it so much more expensive.
Still for EU it will be over $100 which is quite a lot for such a small and simple game.

Other than value, there's the availability of the expansions at retail that is in question. Even if you can save $35 by buying them at retail (instead of the all-in pledge), you may not be able to get them all from the same place, especially if you don't buy them as soon as the stores receive them. Is it worth the risk if you consider the extra value of the KS all-in exclusive extras? I ran into this problem with my Marvel United pledge where I didn't get Sinister Six, thinking I'd grab it at retail, since it wasn't KS exclusive. I could have saved some money but it quickly sold out and now I had to order it at a premium in the new Marvel X-Men kickstarter.

I also don't like the argument thay because it's an IP the consumer has to pay for it. There are plenty of moves, books, video games that are based on other IP and are not more expensive. Them having to pay more money to get the license is not a consumer issue so the cost should not be passed to the consumer.

    • @BoardGameCo
      @BoardGameCo  3 роки тому

Honestly I'm not really sure how to reply there... Of course it's a consumer issue in the same way that the price of plastic, the cost of art, the cost of anything related to a game is a consumer issue. Of course the consumer doesn't have to buy it, but all those things contribute to costs that help the company determine the price. The IP is a cost that they have to pay just like any other, and as such it likely will factor into the price.

    • @seansmith2650

We are paying for the IP by buying the game. If the Witcher had a different name this Kickstart wouldn't get half of this funding. So we should not have to overpay for expansions.

On the addon side they sort of did it again between the gameplay all in and the everything all in. They priced the mat so that you may as well get all those other addons too. I dont hold that against them though since its a good tactic on a cosmetic upgrade.
In a perfect world Id just be buying the Deluxe pledge with some metal coins (always get the coins). Now it looks like Im all in.

I really dislike your agreement that people would be more polite in person that is not true those people would be just as aggressive if they meet them in real life but in there world they are most likely surrounded by like minded people so don't have to. That is why at protest and rallies that have counter-protests things get violent so quick. The person you are online is you or them.

I hear and understand your point...but I think you're referring to the fringes. The vast majority would have a hard time being equally rude/dismissive in person.

@@BoardGameCo I wish that was true but so far not that I have seen.
