As usual, forgot to pick Picks of the Week! Woohoo :) For this week my game interest pick is Death Roads All Stars My value pick is Spire's End Hildegrad. Soul Raiders is close but a bit more of an unknown.
Spire’s End has 2 levels of randomness. Randomness over randomness - That’s too much of randomness. I suggest that you will reconsider your enthusiasm regarding that game. It looks really cool, yes, I gave them this.
Thanks for your constant support and advice! Ike & Max have shared positive things about you and told me to be on the look out for your consistent and well branded username/icon during my first week with Bantam Planet 🤩 See you at 9:00am EST for our next KS Update/stop on The Nomad’s Voyage! 🚂
Would love a “kickstarters I can’t wait to get” video. I know you’ve done pledge manager stuff recently but it’s been awhile since you last did a specific round up of what you’re waiting on and why you’re still excited for it. Could touch on fomo/long term excitement.
Been thinking of lowering my Soul Raiders pledge and this convinced me to finally pull the trigger. With the money "saved", you talked me into backing Spire's End: Hildegard.
We'll probably have to wait until Bantam West irons out its final ruleset, but I'd definitely like to see a Bantam West vs. Western Legends battle in the future because I would probably only ever own one of those...
Just a quick and minor correction, Alex, pardon my boldness. For the Signature Blend Pledge in Distilled, the premium market playmat is not included. You have to add it for 6$. Which is totally fair, since that pledge offers a lot of content with a very decent discount.
Hi Alex, thanks for the weekly Update. How about a video about your Top10 Games u think deserve a remake or version 2.0? For me i have to say it would be scotland yard. The game itself is still great, it just needs a bit of a designupdate :) Have a good one!
Taelmoor I wanted to like better, I agree, I am not too confident in it. Also the artwork has all of the characters getting ready to do the limbo, not a bad art style but just humorous to me.
Have fun on the Mythic Mischiefs play testing venue! Seen some photos on discord and it seems like a big bunch of content creators hanging out, playing games. Good on ya.
@@BoardGameCo www.kickstarter.com/projects/mrmeeple/board-games-t-shirts-from-mr-meeple-season-3?ref=user_menu I have some shirts from last season and will definitely get some more :D
Alex, is there anyway you would be able to compare the two upcoming Masters of the Universe games? I love the 80's show, but no way I can get both games. I would love to see how each of them play.
Backing Spire's End: Hildegard since I enjoyed the first game and Greg Favro is great to deal with. I'm torn on Soul Raiders. It looks really cool and it'd be my first big "choose your own adventure" style game. But, I also don't really "need" it. :(
@@BoardGameCo But "Need" is a complicated word. It's a term that is too broad or too specific depending on how you define it. Most people rarely use it to only mean "I need water, air, shelter". But "need" also can get us into trouble, "I need more heroine," for example, and this probably would be classified under the same "need" as water, because an addict would die without some heroine from time to time.
Do you think the relatively high price for some recent games - perhaps Platformer or Soul Raiders - is due in part to VAT? In general I would be interested in a video about what all backers are footing the bill for beyond the design, testing, and components - like translations for games, VAT, customs, marketing, and your opinion if the practice of an all-inclusive global price for crowdfunding projects should change?
I was pumped for Death Roads but that shipping cost for US is brutal. I can't justify that much increase over retail for 3 more minis and some extra cards. Will probably be able to buy retail for $30 or less.
I wait until the end for the pick of the week and it was in the comments… I was thinking you choose distilled surprises you pick a car race game. Currently backing only Soul Raiders and Chronicles of Drunagor expansion…
Alex, you mentioned 7th Continent. how would you compare Soul Raiders with 7th Citadel since the late pledge is still open? Both on value and exploration value
I was going to mention this as well. EGG has pulled most of their games from standard retail channels and their games are only available through Kickstarter and direct from their website. They don't put their premium games (Lacerda, Rococo, etc) on sale and generally charge more after the kickstarter.
I'll probably back Spire's End: Hildegard. I haven't backed anything yet in July and I only backed 1 game in June because I know there is a ton of stuff coming in August.
The game has several awards and a lot of interest on Kickstarter. Hard to imagine someone won't try to bring this to retail! Very little KSE content, just the mini-expansion, though the add-ons may be difficult to acquire outside of KS. Surprised there isn't a German language version.
For Volyfrion Guilds; as a newcomer I genuinely do not understand what content is necessary and not necessary to get in the KS. Do I need decks of the old game? No idea.
The 2 games I am most interested this week are Distilled and Death Road All Stars but unfortunately won't be backing either for 2 different reasons. Distilled as you mentioned is just overpriced and here in the UK with VAT will cost $126 (All-in) and if I were to make a guess I would be able to pick this up at the retail for around $50 so the extra content is just not worth anywhere near $76 to me. Death road had a 24h early bird which I missed so already feel I have missed the best value so I'm not paying more.
The On Mars expansion is simply one bridge too far for me. Not only is it not the expansion they told us was coming, but it simply doesn't appeal to me. Oh and it is super expensive. They have a lot of cheek to be offering this up at that price for what is offered.
From 12:24: I would say that you could easily say the same thing about Awaken Realms recent "normal" titles, too, not only about Awaken Realms Lite. ISS Vanguard by no way looks like a game that should be 99 Euros without the Stretch Goals. It is 4 minutes, some cards, dice and a binder. Same point as with Platforner applies here. I'd say that AR in general has become a pretty expensive publisher due to their success, not only in total price but in value offered. 99 $ f. e. seemed like a big ask for ISS Vanguard even with stretch goals.
You mean that for approximately 100 hours of gameplay , 2000 cards and around 15 miniatures + narration 99 usd is expensive? I really could only name more expensive campaign games than that. The Isofarian Guards and Sleeping Gods are maybe slightly cheaper but they offer less in case of materials or gameplay hours. At least in my opinion Awaken Realms offer on of the cheapest campaign games nowadays. (I know that gameplays hours not necessarely mean quality but still...)
@@agnestoth2023 I wouldn't use gameplay hours, neither. Material is a better way of measuring value. Otherwise, if you really like Uno and play it for 100 hours, 50 bucks for a stack of Uno cards would be a fair price, which it isn't. Still, the rest are fair points. I wouldn't call it cheap, but there are worse offenders if you include SGs. Still, without them, ISS Vanguard has the same "AR-problem" as Platformer and still got backed...
1000 plays a year? That's almost 3 plays a day, every single day of the year, without exception.. That's not efficient, that sounds like an addiction, the sort that could become problematic 😅 I think you should not be jealous of that, I already wondered how the heck you structure your days to get 500 plays in.
@@BoardGameCo Pretty safe addiction if you have a good budget, and not causing other people harm. And if you can manage to also make some money or sell off parts of the collection as time continues, it's a pretty manageable addiction bordering on "hobby". haha
Nothing really appeals this month. Soul Raiders looks interesting but too pricey. Not heard of Bantam West so will check out your review of that, thankS Alex
PureArts poor communication, misleading marketing and general treatment of their backers concerns over things like VAT, and changing content of the games, has really put me off getting Orlog, not to mention the quite pricy add ons. Perfect example of how not to run a Kickstarter campaign.
Souls Raiders’s main thing is not the game here because it looks boring, but the story. The problem is that the story is so dumb and unoriginal. There are so many better games that are cheaper : Legacy of Dragonholt, Call to Adventure and Myrk

just a note for Distilled, the playmat is NOT included in any of the pledge.... only available as Add-ons.... per the FAQ...
Thanks!
Both Kickstarter and Gamefound should be the official sponsored of your videos..
For spires end I attempted to track a copy down and was met with 200-300$ opportunities. So I went to TTS which works great .
Sounds about right :)
I hate to say it, because the creator of Spire's End original sounds awesome, but this situation occurs to me like artificial scarcity.
Taelmoor I wanted to like better, I agree, I am not too confident in it. Also the artwork has all of the characters getting ready to do the limbo, not a bad art style but just humorous to me.

It's a blast, the people and the game.
Holy smokes, $97 for Bantam West base game. That’s insanity. Eyeballing that, looks like a game that would be like $75 MSRP.
Somehow hoped you'd mention the Boardgame T-Shirts I backed as I am hoping for more Stretchgoals when you talked about boardgame adjacent projects 😉

I think rat queens belong to the genre of heroes defense. It's a variation of tower defense where you control a hero instead of a stationary tower
To be fair EGG holds their MSRP pretty strictly...it would be rare to see the expansion got discounted a lot on any other platform.
