    Thank you for this.
    I went a little overboard ordering molds on Ebay.
    One of the molds i ordered was chest pieces because a guy i am getting to know better loves chess and i want to make him fudge. ....but i already know once i am done making fudge the mold will get repurposed to my resin art. Now i know that if things progress i can make him a whole chess set.

      Thank you! The cork backing is just to protect the surface you put the board on. You can still see the gorgeous glitter not only around the edges but between all the squares too. Others options for backing are clear rubber bummers (which I use a lot) or felt. Thank you so much for watching!

      I'm sorry it's taken so long to answer you, things have been crazy lately. I've been asked about that corkboard a lot. LOL. The glittered back was pretty and you can still see it around the edges and between the squares. That corkboard backing was really a last minute decision. I had it sitting there for another project and just wondered how it would work as a backing for the board. I know it's not for everyone, but I think it worked. In my opinion, you need to have some kind of backing to help protect the surface you have the board on. I've also use felt and clear rubber bumpers for backing.

    Wonderful video. I just got the chess set with the board. After looking at it, it was kinda confusing as to how to do the board. Thanks to your video you cleared almost everything up. My question to you is; Why did you put the cork background on? Was it to protect surfaces you place the board on or, was it to strengthen the board itself or both? BTW, I would have used white as the accent color on the darker checker pieces, in my humble opinion, they would have really popped like the white pieces with the darker glitter. All in all, thank you for the video, it really helped!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much! The cork bottom is mainly to protect your surfaces. You could use the rubber feet/bumpers to do the same. The clear coat/flood coat of resin I put on both sides of the board strengthens it. I always have pieces that I look back on and say I should have done this or that... and then say oh well guess I'll do that next time... LOL! Thanks so much for watching!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! Those pipettes are really a PITA in my opinion. I don't use them very often and they usually just get tossed. To try and clean them push all the resin out of them and then put them in a cup of isopropyl alcohol. Let the alcohol soak up inside the pipette for a minute then push it out into another cup so that your alcohol stays kind of clean and your not just sucking resin back up into it. And, just repeat that process until it's clean. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity

      No, not a support for the board but a protection for the surface you're putting it on. I used cork for this one because I had it laying there. I've also used felt and clear rubber bummers. Thank you so much! Yes, you can use this board for a chess board. Where I got this mold they actually have a choice of chess pieces or checker piece molds. This is approximately because I always mix a little extra... The white and purple about 140 - 160 ml of each and the glitter part about 8 oz. For just the board itself, I would say a total of about 12 oz. Happy Holidays to you too! And thanks so much for watching!

Thank you so much! ♥️👍

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому +2

      @Spiritual Compass You're welcome. To try and keep the color cohesive, I would measure out the same amount of mica powder (or whatever you use to color) and put it into as many cups as you're going to need for how many batches you'll need to do. So like if you're going to need to do four batches, then measure out the same amount of mica powder into four different cups and then use the same amount of resin for each. That might help a little trying to keep everything cohesive even though resin does have a mind of its own. LOL. Best of luck! And I'm sure your daughter will love it!!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому +2

      In total, I used about 18 ounces of resin not including the top coats. For all the white (pieces and board) it's about 5 ounces and that's the same for the purple pieces and board. For the glittered back it's 8 ounces. The top coats are optional (but I do recommend them because not only will it cover any flaws from the mold but it also strengths the board) and only take maybe an ounce or so per side to do that. FYI - (this is what I do) just use a measuring cup and fill your molds with water to determine how many ounces you'll need for that project. Of course make sure your molds are completely dry before using resin. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching!

      The back was super pretty and it's one of my favorites I've made. I just put the cork backing on to protect any surface the board was sat on. But, if you didn't want the whole thing covered clear rubber bumper feet work well too. Thanks so much for watching!

    Did u wait for the purple to cure for 24 hours before u put the glitter on? I'm in the process of making one right now and I'm just curious!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому

      Yes, it was close to that. You don't necessarily have to wait that long, but you want your previous layer to be cured enough to hold the next layer so they don't mix. And, all resins are different and different environments affect resin differently so it's hard to give an exact time. But, 24 hours is a good number to make sure you have no problems with just about any resin. Thanks so much for watching!

      At that time, I don't think I knew what backing I was going to do. You need to have some kind of backing to help protect the surface you have the board on. Cork, felt, rubber feet... I've done all of those and they all work well. Thanks for watching!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому

      Couple ideas I would try... just a solid white background (but I would color my resin with either pigment paste or acrylic paint because that will give you more of a bold solid color than mica powder will), or maybe a glittered background (plain white or maybe a mix of blue and silver flakes)... hope that kind of helps and gives you some ideas. Well, I didn't know that I was going to use the cork until after I was done, it was a last minute decision. I was going to use rubber bummers but I ran out. My thought was to have some kind of backing to protect the surface that the board would be on. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому +1

      @katgirl8012 For just the board itself... The white and purple about 3oz. each and for the glitter part about 8oz. I would do one color at a time and let it set up so that you don't run the risk of the two colors mixing, and be sure not to overfill the squares. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you so much for watching!

    I've started making chess board and they keep warping is there anything you can tell me as to why it's doing that?

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому

      I've had that problem on a couple of pieces and usually it's the projects that are thinner like these boards, clipboards, bookmarks, etc. It does take thinner resin projects longer to cure. It could be the temperature or humidity you're working in... make sure your work surface is flat and level and wait a little longer before demolding so instead of the 24 hours wait 36 or 48 hours before you demold. If you have to demold then you could put your project on a flat surface run your heat gun over it to flatten it out and then cover it with parchment paper and something flat and heavy and let it finish curing that way. But be very careful doing that because your resin piece could be marked up very easily. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching!

    How long did it take you to do the whole set, minutes, hours or days or all 3?

    • @JSCreationsArtSanity
      @JSCreationsArtSanity  3 роки тому

      It depends... if I'm working on other projects at the same time and how the weather/humidity is. If I'm just focused on this project then usually about 96 hours for just the resin (that's pour the first color wait about 12 hours, pour the second color wait about 12 hours, pour the background wait 24 hours, demold, clear coat first side wait 24 hours, clear coat second side wait 24 hours). For the cork backing, I'll usually wait anywhere from 48 to 36 hours. If I'm working on other projects at the same time then I usually wait about 24 hours between each pour. And still wait 48 to 36 hours to put the cork backing on.
      Also, if I use Elmer's glue instead of painters tape when I'm doing the clear coats then I have to wait for the Elmer's glue to try which can take anywhere from 2 to 3 days.
      To cut some of that time down you could pour your colored squares at the same time. I've done this, but I don't recommend that you do that because you do run the risk of your colors just running together.

      I used what glitter I thought best at the time and what I had on hand. Hindsight is always 20/20. You could absolutely use white glitter on the purple and I think that would look very nice. I also think that purple glitter on the white pieces would have maybe been better, but again hindsight... For the cork backing, I had the cork board and thought lets try this and see if it works. It's just to protect the surface you put the game board on. I think it worked and you can still very much see the beautiful purple and white flecks of glitter, not only around the edges but in between each square too. Thank you so much for watching!
