Crosby is the most advanced hockey player of all time. Watching him skate is poetry in motion. He has no weakness in any facet of the game. Best overall hockey player of all time.
The amount of skill craftsmanship and athleticism displayed in these clips is on a completely different level from everybody else on the planet. -Flyers Fan
+curtsher11 I have never noticed how he goes heel to heel to go around the net. the rest is clear. Although this video has showed me in greater detail.
The way he skates is far beyond the hockey we play today. It's truly blessing to be able to watch him sate and experience such a beautiful and solid style.
You should have see how he was dominating junior with the Océanic based on skating ability ALONE. Putting aside IQ, stick handling, determination, etc. That one skill was enough to dominate this league. At 16yo, not a 20 yo was able make him fall his skate. Kid had so much stronger leg, than anyone else, for his age. It translated very well to the NHL.
Yup, and Ovi is the greatest goal scorer of our era. Started watching nhl the year they both came into the league, it’s crazy how they’re both in their early 30s now and on the back end of their careers
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT. I AM A FREAKING BOSTON SPORTS FAN, BUT IT'S SO ABUNDANTLY OBVIOUS THAT WATCHING THIS GUY PLAY IS A TRUE PRIVILEGE. It perplexes me to no end when butt hurt fans can't stomach how profoundly he embarrasses their team, so they just hate on him instead. But their team's "star" players were playing Xbox and noshing on nachos when Crosby was putting in thousands and thousands of hours a year at perfecting the utmost nuances of his game. We should all just pause and appreciate that HE ROUTINELY DOES THINGS NO OTHER PLAYER CAN DO. It is special to watch, period. I knew about the kid as a phenom in Cole Harbor Nova Scotia back in 2002. When Pitt drafted him on 7-31-05, I was stoked beyond belief to see what this 17-18 yr old kid could do in the NHL, given how he'd been deking players a half a decade older and twice his size since he was 14. Crosby did not disappoint. It blows my mind what he can do with a puck and how he consistently beats several defenders, even when they're necklining him, slashing, doing a whole tonne of shit...It's just... anyone who claims to be a hockey fan, who doesn't love this guy, in my eyes, they are either stupid, morally and spiritually bankrupt, or else they were never truly a hockey fan to begin with. Okay, rant over. TLDR - Agreed. IMHO Crosby is the GOAT.
I can’t stand Sid but I will admit that his overall skating abilities are near unmatched. You know why? Because he has a skating coach, and works and works and works.
Right. You aren't a great hockey player unless you master the art of skating. Every hockey player should be working on perfecting their skating. Crosby is amazing to watch. IMO he will be the best player until he retires.
On the money. Watch mcdavid play, his skating ability sets him apart. He just blows by guys. Crosby’s edge work and skating allows him to do the amazing things he does. Awesome to watch.
These technical vids are great. It’s awesome that there is a player like Crosby who graced the NHL. This is the stuff I hope the new generations will review and practice to improve their game. The dude is just incredible and someone to really pick apart in terms of technique.
One of the best skills compilation videos I've ever seen, on top of the fact that Crosby's edgework is stunning. His ankle turnout and how he can swivel his pelvis on a dime is incredible, this really shows it off best.
I learned so many things from just watching Crosby and trying it by my self. This guy is my role model and that won’t change no matter which players will come.
I come back to this and the puck protection videos every now and then, to me they are still the best showcases of any hockey players talents outside of scoring and passing and speed. There are plenty of videos of that out there but these videos are unique and highlight parts of a players skill most fans dont pay attention to.
Steve keep doing what you are doing. I am a huge fan. You are an enthusiastic fan who brings common sense to things. I really appreciate that. I have been a die hard leafs fan for a long time. Thanks
I’m mesmerized by all aspects of Sid’s game. He’s still wowing us with unbelievable things. I watch this video whenever it comes up in my feed. My fav hockey player ever!
I try explaining this to people on why he’s the best in the world. But everyone is is caught by his puck handling and shooting skill. Skating is where it starts
Damn, that's incredible. I've never been a hockey guy, probably because I didn't do it while growing up. I am just learning to skate and I can now see why the sport deserves attention. It's a shame that most fans seem to reduce it to beer, fistfights, and broken jaws when work such as this is going on right in front of their faces.
Crosby is such a masterpiece. It amazes me how he mixes his natural skill with vigorous training on all aspects of the game. His footwork, shot, the way he reads the play is just insane. This is why hockey is such a great game. It takes people who start as average people with a will and determination like no other who push themselves to the limit to become the best and get into the NHL. Amazing video!
I'd say that he had a fair amount of innate ability. Look at old videos of him as a little kid (Squirts or PeeWee aged) and he is far and away the best player on the ice. Not saying that he didn't put in an incredible amount of work (he did), just that he has it all; talent, drive, intelligence, and an incredible will to win.
I love the look on the goalies faces when he scores those highlight level goals. They look around like how the hell did he get the puck in the net like that, they then look behind them to see who it was and the "ohh that makes sense now" face is just priceless. He's the one guy that no matter how stupid he makes you look be it player or goalie, it's accepted solely because the greatest player in the game did it to you.
These videos (excellent, insightful, entertaining) are a very good argument in favor of "diversification". Out on local rinks, I see a lot of people hyperfocus on a single aspect that brings them great satisfaction, which however distracts them from working on other things they might actually learn to enjoy, if they gave it time. A good example being exactly this video: footwork, edgework, skating sideways, pivoting for puck protection, using your skate blades as "extra stick blades" .... there's just so much to add to the toolbox. And Sidney shows it makes a massive difference.
Great video man! I watch your videos before every game and practise and I love how you highlight specific parts of Sid like edgework or backhands! Keep up the good work!
Wow, look at the sequence at 4:45 and the angle of his skate as he charges towards the goalie and the angling of the blade back down to not risk cutting the goalie! The speed and reflex to do that is just amazing, pure class!
I didn't realize how great a skater Crosby was until I saw this video. The heel to heel move allows him to leave the other skaters in the dust whenever he wants. The 3 strides around the net is ridiculous
This is such an important part of the game and I love how you highlighted it. My hockey coach makes us do a drill called side the kids where we work on his type of edge work
my brothers friend played with Crosby at St. Mary's. he was a senior and Crosby was a freshman and said that crosby was almost impossible to bump off of the puck even at 14. and this dude was 18. haha, I bet those guys felt like crap being schooled by a 14 year old at the time. now, probably not so much seeing just how good he is.
My power skating coach told me to watch this, he taught me the heel to heel move that he does. It is so useful and a great skill to have with the puck. As you saw, he used it to face the play while going around the net. Great for playmaking.
Surprisingly this edgework is actually fairly easy if you just practice it consistently. Anyone can learn some Of these moves in a few weeks if you keep training it. Amazing stuff and Crosby is surely the best at it 👍🏻
Sid's skate control is just unbelievable. Its going back a long ways, but reminds me of Yvan Cournoyer who also (for that day) had great edge and skate control. Sigh - I still miss the great Montreal Canadian teams of the 60's and 70's.
I’m really not a fan of Crosby but man does he have my respect. Incredible work ethic with a clear passion for the game. I admire his footwork so highly.
I must add that I've watched your 2009-2013 Ultimate Highlights like 50 times and have downloaded all the music you use for these videos. You're the fucking man
Crosby is a fast skater but his edges help him translate to a position which makes defenders hard to catch up with him including he is able to keep balance just like it showed in the video when he put his hand on the ice to protect the puck which can lead to a scoring opportunity
Crosby uses CCM / Reebok Ribcor ice skates. Probably one of the best skates out there special designed for agile, quick and extreme tight turns. I love those skates! I'm using one of those myself and ofc I'm not a Sidney Crosby but I feel like those skates fits perfectly for people who are using a lot of edges and instant sudden turns. Worth to try out if you haven't.
I was born into a hockey loving family, i was born at 7pm on a Thursday evening. It was the beginning of the game and they won that night! I have adored the pens ever since
Nah, That's still Gretzky, Gretzky is smaller than Crosby and he was even more difficult to get the puck off of, you could take away all of Gretzky's goals and he'd still be in 1st for most points ever, and he did it in 400 less games than Jagr who's 2nd in overall points. Gretzkys records are damn near untouchable. Crosby is definitely the best of this current time, but he's not going to even come close to Gretzky.
People must not let their blind hatred for Crosby cloud their judgment. Crosby is hands down the best player of our generation, and arguably a top 5 all-time. His skills are in every area of the game of hockey is practically a perfect 10, elite. Match that along with his mental strength and his character (other intangibles), he just leaves everyone behind in the dust. Most great players are even lucky if they are elite in a couple areas of hockey. But to be elite in every area of the game, that is what we call "special", something that we only reserve for a handful of players in the entire history of the NHL.
I'm one of those crazy people who likes the skating of good hockey players more than most figure skating. the fact that hockey players can do what they do while pushing a stick while trying to get a small rubber disk and fighting against other guys is amazing to me. I love watching videos like this. Crosby's footwork is mesmerizing.
Seriously I've watched so much hockey and so many player's highlights and just regular shifts by them in games, datsyuk and Crosby are the only two guys that I say to myself by myself out loud "wow". Like this video just is incredible. He is like if you had to build a perfect player he would be the stereotype for it, and datsyuk you literally just can't explain. He does stuff that literally you've never seen players do and to do it in the NHL just makes your jaw drop. As a Detroit fan I watched him every night and there were always at least like 3 or 4 plays that never made highlights but you would just laugh out loud because you had never seen it before. Sid and pav just always make good decisions with the puck, they make everyone on the ice with them better, and they both are threats on the ice no matter if they are in the slot, behind the net, or 180 feet away from the goal. I remember watching that assist I the finals and out loud said to my friend "holy crap, did you see Crosby rich there." I would give a slight edge to datsyuk because I truly believe there has never been a player with more skill than him then you combine that with being one of the best defensive forwards ever and his off the charts vision and iq I think he edges Crosby but Crosby is right there and then a big drop off to everyone else like mcdavid, getzlaf, Tavares, kucherov, and Kane. Again Crosby is like the perfect player. I saw someone describe it perfectly on watching datsyuk "it's like if you watch enough hockey you recognize all the plays, movements, and strategy as hockey plays and your brain processes it. But when you watch datsyuk it's like stuff you've never seen and your brain doesn't recognize it as hockey and you just don't know what to think of plays he makes." Great vid on one of the best ever.
After the double Stanley Cup wins of the last 2 years, it is worth taking another look at this hockey hero in action. Setting his moves to music is no problem - he does seem to take hockey to a level of art.
McDavid has great speed, a great shot and stick handling ability, but he doesn’t have this. Crosby has slowed down but he’s still incredible and still does this on a daily basis. Greatest player of the 21st century. Third best player ever.
This is a great example of why aspects of figure skating transfer over to make you a better hockey player, Plenty of Hockey players I talk to tell me edgework, balance, and flexibility that transposes from Figure skating is the biggest edge they can build over other players and any serious hockey player will invest time and practice hours into real edgework and balance, At my local rink at least half of all the hockey players take figure, or have taken figure skating in the past to learn these principals
I was living at Rimouski when he was playing there. Everytime the Océanic would play on week-end the city just shutdown. The city was either at the game or listening to it on TV. The whole city was living to the rythm of Crosby. It was unique and its saying consedering its was very few years after the Océanic won the Cup with Lecavalier and Richards. Remember working in a restaurant at the time and we used to call work night during Océanic era : Free money nights. Restaurant was empty everytimes. I know many people that met him at the time, every single person that told me the met him, spoke about him highly. Very kind and polite apparently, when he had all the reason for having the big head. Im so happy that the many hits he took to the head during his career didnt stop is career early. I was very scared at some point.
Hard for people who don't necessarily watch a lot of hockey to understand how impressive this is. Crosby has some of the best hockey sense and skill of our generation. Unbelievable ability to create time and space with his footwork
great, just great. that hell yo heel is great. Dang all these broken ankles. Edges are great. Keep it up sid. By a kid. I live in california and play for the California Wave 10UB last year for 10UB. Kings fan. next year 12UB.
I've been watching hockey almost all my adult life, but show me this video a few weeks ago and I would have been "meh..". My son started hockey this year. I never played hockey and my skating is horrible, so I go on the ice with him during his practice and try to do the same thing as them. Now after a few weeks practicing, watching NHL and i'm amazed on how good the players are. This video shows skills that I never cared about before, and now i'm freaking amazed..

@bone-snypa I did and I saw he's good but not better than crosby
@bone-snypa he beats guys with speed, Crosby beats guys with tecnique. Not saying McDavid is sloppy but Crosby looks like he was born on ice.
@bone-snypa Crosby is better in every way, McDavid is faster. Prime Jagr is up there too as far as keeping guys off the puck using his feet and body
@bone-snypa talk to us when he leads his stats driven teams to Stanley Cups...
@bone-snypa maybe he should take less than 12.5 million in cap space then.
The amount of skill craftsmanship and athleticism displayed in these clips is on a completely different level from everybody else on the planet.

Connor McDavid
+The Nuuge I disagree, Connor is much faster at top speed but he is not as agile or strong in the lower body
MLGXander you'll see ;)

I always new Crosby was great. But I've never really noticed his foot work. This is awesome, thank you.
How can one not notice?
+curtsher11 I have never noticed how he goes heel to heel to go around the net. the rest is clear. Although this video has showed me in greater detail.
One thing is for sure, you can't confuse him for anyone else when he's skating like that.

Most great players are even lucky if they are elite in a couple areas of hockey. But to be elite in every area of the game, that is what we call "special", something that we only reserve for a handful of players in the entire history of the NHL.
Sid the kid will always be remembered in canada for the golden goal! Gold medal in 2010 🏅
awesome video side. great clips and music. keep it up. had me watching all the way through
OMG I LOVE THE PENS AND THIS IS THE FIRST VIDEO IVE SEEN NOT CALLING HIM A CRY BABY!!! Skills are AMAZING!!!
It is simply the most difficult sport to master...and it's not even close.
Great job at getting these clips! Nailed it.
I love this editing! Just followed.
After the double Stanley Cup wins of the last 2 years, it is worth taking another look at this hockey hero in action. Setting his moves to music is no problem - he does seem to take hockey to a level of art.
Imo Crosby is the strongest skater/ top 5 of all time. So smart, everything he does has a purpose, so amazing
Might not be the fastest player, definitely the strongest on his skates, can't knock him off the puck
ex figure skater here thats why ive always been a fan if sid dude can skate.....
incredible power and balance, just insane
0:22 is my favorite Sid highlight - I rewound it probably five times when he did it live
What a great video ! Amazing job xXLaflammeXx . Thumbs up for sure !

It's one thing to have the footwork and stick handling, but the way he seems to always finish the play with a goal, that is very impressive.
He makes the D blow tires left and right I love it!
He makes pros look like beer league chumps.
McDavid has great speed, a great shot and stick handling ability, but he doesn’t have this.
Crosby has slowed down but he’s still incredible and still does this on a daily basis. Greatest player of the 21st century. Third best player ever.
This is a great example of why aspects of figure skating transfer over to make you a better hockey player, Plenty of Hockey players I talk to tell me edgework, balance, and flexibility that transposes from Figure skating is the biggest edge they can build over other players and any serious hockey player will invest time and practice hours into real edgework and balance,
At my local rink at least half of all the hockey players take figure, or have taken figure skating in the past to learn these principals
Yes excellent - agility in motion gives time and space to make the play or to hold the puck until just the right moment
Kings fan. next year 12UB.
sorry the heel to heel is sp great
He broke my ankles and I was only watching
I've been watching hockey almost all my adult life, but show me this video a few weeks ago and I would have been "meh..".
My son started hockey this year. I never played hockey and my skating is horrible, so I go on the ice with him during his practice and try to do the same thing as them.
Now after a few weeks practicing, watching NHL and i'm amazed on how good the players are.
This video shows skills that I never cared about before, and now i'm freaking amazed..
