😭 I’m waiting patiently to be able to wash , detangle and use a strengthening conditioner on my hair. We have gone through a lot this week with power and water outages in TX.
I promise I’ll be gently once I get this hands in this hair. 🚿🙌🏽

God bless you 4C gals. You all are super patient ❤❤. Im in the 4a realm, and it literally take me 1-2 min to detangle with just my shampoo. I would never detangle if it took any longer!!!
You're so right about trimming. When I was transitioning, detangling was TERRIBLE; Took me 30min. Cut those ends off ladies so the straight ends dont tangle in the curl ends.

My advice would be to dry finger detangle a bit outside of the shower (or use oil), add some aloe Vera or a slippery prepoo and concentrate it on the roots. Let it sit, finger detangle (twist is optional) then continue with your wash day. You can use a Detangling brush too, but break through the tangles with your fingers first.

I absolutely loved all the points you made but the one that stuck out to me the most was the trimming point 7. Girl can I tell you my last wash Day was disaster bc I was lazy and didn't want to trim my hair the last time before. I know most people on type 4c hair (not trying to hair type) but for the sake of conversation say trimming stops hair length retention. What I've discovered is I need regular trimming to keep my hair growing healthy, long and in it's best shape. I put myself now on a trimming cycle and looking forward to the results

Giovanni Conditioner is very cheap if you buy the big bottles and they have so much slip, the more water you add to your hair while having this conditioner the more it foams and gives you more slip to aid with detangling.

  • @_themodernnatural

I have been trying something new. Since I wash and deep condition my hair once a week, I decided to avoid unnecessary breakage by only detangling when deep conditioning and that involves using my fingers and a brush. So far its been working fine because to be honest my hair is left in chunky braids throughout the whole week (I tend to unravel them midweek to remoisturise but even then I only do light finger detangling). Basically wash day is when I focus on throughly detangling my hair.
(I have fine, low porosity, low density, type 4 hair)

I have spent a fortune in the last 1.5 years trying product after product. A fortune! So many oils! My hair does not seem to do well with oils, and I watched hours of youtube videos on all types of hair. I even tried to seal my hair with grease. No good. However, I don't want to throw anything out because my hair was transitioning and as my hair changes, something that didn't work in the past may work in the future. With that being said, I have high porosity hair, and live in a very dry climate (no one talks about climate's impact on hair???). I can take a shower and get fully drenched, and my hair is 80% dry within 20 minutes of getting out of the shower. TWENTY minutes!??? When my hair dries, it is HARD and tight like a prized fighter and crispy dry. What's worse is that my hair has different textures. It's 4c in the front and along edges, 4b hard waves on the sides, and then like 4a/3a on the top. So the same styling product doesn't work throughout. My point: adding pre-poo to my routine has been the best thing EVER. Even after doing a deep conditioner every week (with heat, without heat, all options) the soft results here don't last beyond a day unless I pre-poo. I use Atherna Cavier pre-shampoo, as my stylist carries the line. It's pricey, but it works. Love the tip about making the wash day a spa experience!!! I do rush on the detangling and I definitely lose patience when my wet hair has conditioner in it and still gets locked in a raised cuticle handcuff. Even when I gently massage the conditioner in to the ends to release the lock.....nothing. Perhaps I am using the wrong conditioner??????? Will bring in music on my next wash day. Thanks!
