Leonardo Dicaprio wasn't supposed to be casted in this movie. They just
found him randomly laying on a beach in Japan, after 13 years of
swimming in freezing water all the way from the Atlantic Ocean and Titanic, and made him the main character.
He drowned in the North Atlantic. He would have ended up in Americas. Not in Japan.😃

"If Cobb couldn't enter the country, couldn't Michael Cain just fly the kids out to him?", i was ROFL after that. That actually made sense.
+Steven nani To be fair, most countries will extradite murderers. Michael Cain would have had to bring the children to a dangerous third world country or something and cause a lot more upheaval in their lives on top of losing their mother and their father being on the run.
Pera Medina you know, FYI i'm a huge fan of the movie and I know there are complication that made leo do what he did in the movie. But you were supposed to watch these videos for fun, not for a practical discussion.

Michael Caine couldn't fly out the kids to him because, a.) the grandmother doesn't like him and she doesn't even want to speak to him on the phone. B.) He was talking with Ariadne and remember what he said in the movie? He said, they think I killed her.

Well the reason they couldn't dream anything like a tank was because they needed the guy (who's dream they were infiltrating) to accept the events realistically. So if they were to say dream up a giant robot then the guy would think it's a dream and wake up, they needed him in a constant state of realism.....as much as they possibly could anyway. I'm sick of people comparing Inception to Matrix, calling it a rip-off, just because it deals with the subject matter of surreal worlds.
Simon Yip It's really not a rip-off.
The Matrix isn't a dream world. It's a simulated reality that people are plugged in to. Nobody is dreaming the Matrix.
Inception has people going into other people's dreams. And planting ideas there.
Literally the only way in which Inception and The Matrix are comparable is that they take place in worlds which aren't, strictly speaking, 'real.'
By the same logic, Alice In Wonderland is a rip off of The Matrix.

HOLY SHIT! I never thought of that, lol
Don't you need a consent form signed by both parents to take children out of a country?
Adrian Baciuc but it's a movie lol. Who's thinking of legal forms if going into people's dreams is a real thing?
Adrian Baciuc In cases where a parent is dead (Mal), it only needs to be signed by a legal guardian.
While the movie doesn't specifically mention who the legal guardian is, it is implied that its Michael Caine. We know the kids have a legal guardian with an American VISA, cause if they didn't they would have either been deported or sent into the foster care system.
Adrian Baciuc Also a consent form is only required if the child is leaving the country without a parent or legal guardian present with them while they are leaving. Which means the kids could have, in theory, left with Cobb when he was fleeing the country.

"... just a Matrix."

But "Paprika" heavily borrowed from "The City of the Lost Children" (the way the villain is defeated in the end is exactly the same), so I'm not sure if you really want to go there... (Of course, "Matrix" borrowed the coats and the helicopter finale from "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man", but that is not the same).
@@alleespach havent seen that movie tbh and I know that Paprika movie ending is different from the book one, so cant argument about that
@@danielwordsworth1843 It is not a very good movie but it has its moments... and in the end, the old guy who is a dream stealer and dream manipulator thanks to a diabolical half-sentient device is defeated by the young heroine, who duels with him in his own dream and makes him shrink, etc. It is exactly the same thing.
I watched this again earlier today and realized that last point you made. It makes absolutely no sense that his kids couldn't come visit Paris.
They live with grandma, in the United states you need full custody to legally have someone else's kids living with you. If that is the case and am almost 100 percent sure it is. Then here is the Info. The grandma Hates Cobb she wont even let the kids talk to him for more than a minute what makes the viewer think she will let them out of the country to visit whom she thinks is responsible for the death of her daughter.
Eh, passports are hard.
A lot of things in Inception make no sense.
The whole movie is a dream, even tho it's not 100% clear who's dreaming. As Cobb states in the movie, dreams feal real while you are in them, only when you wake up, you realize that something was actually strange.
He is in a dream, so he doesn't realize that it's strange his kids can't simply visit him in Paris. If he woke up, he would realize that.
Inception is a huge metaphor. The "kids" are Cobb and his wife, being young again (more exactly, the feminine energy and the masculine energy). The Japanese guy is an all powerful being, trapped in solitude, without his beloved woman by his side (the feminine and masculine energies are separated, life stops). The older Japanese guy wants to reconnect with younger Cobb, and younger Cobb wants to reconnect with his kids (the masculine energy is seeking the feminine energy, as the masculine is the active element, and the feminine is the passive element, extremely simply put)
You could say that this is an old man's dream in the last second of his life. Or a desire, an impulse, of the man at the end of a love affair. The cycle of life/love has been completed, and the dying one wants to be reborn, start a new life / romantic relationship. You'll understand when you'll get closer to your old days, contemplate suicide, or when you'll get closer to parting ways with someone you once loved deeply, but for whom you don't feel the same flame anymore, or when your lover leaves you, because he/she doesn't feel love for you anymore, or simply both reached the end of your once fiery love for each other.
This honest trailer is funny, but takes Inception at face value (otherwise there wouldn't be anything left to make fun of). It's like watching Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel famous God creating Adam fresco, and making fun of Adam's tiny dick, while completely missing that God is the human brain.

JGL's job was to explain the plot without his character, you would have been lost. And apparently Nolan doesn't dream about black people either, because I don't think there was one black person in this movie, maybe an extra.I have yet to see one, still a great movie though.
Well it wasn't completely lacking in diversity. It had an East Asian and Indian characters. Most films have only have one obligatory minority character.
some of the projections were black? e.g. the guy in the hallway fight
Tom Chambers and Birdie Wolf you are both right, its just a lot of films just don't represent the world as a whole-but their is only so much they can do if diverse extras don't volunteer but still-i wish cast were more diverse.
It also has to do with auditions, if barely any black people applied then you'll see a lack of black people

I don't understand??
@@ekdumhatke6590 back when this video was released, elliot page was a woman. They predicted the future.
What most people don't get is this movie is not about a matrix type mindfucking story.
This movie is an artistic sketch of the process of movie making:
- Leonardo DiCaprio is the director (who direct the scenes, and putting his own idea into the movie);
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the producer (who organize the crew);
- Ellen Page is the scriptwriter (who lay down the background of the story);
- Tom Hardy is the makeup artist (who transform everyone into their character);
- Ken Watanabe is the investor (who pays money to make the movie with their own motives);
- Dileep Rao is the technical personal (who set up all the technical stuff);
- Cillian Murphy is the audience;
a movie is a like a dream, it takes the audiences to a fake journey and put idea/inspiration/excitement into their head at the end.
The movie Inception is complex not because its plot, but because the thoughts go behind it. It is like people will have a hard time to appreciate the artwork of Manet or Jackson Pollock if don't understand the thoughts behind those works.
Wow, I need to see the movie again now
Andá a ponerla
An excellent movie but man words cannot even begin to describe how much of a mindfuck it really is
I don't understand why people insist on saying this is a difficult movie to understand. Matrix was way harder for a first-time viewing. If you're really watching Inception focused then you'll get all of it the first time. That said, the very final scene is a joke.
+AmorthOfficial Oh you think the Matrix is hard to understand? Try Perfect Blue.

AmorthOfficial The Matrix was actually pretty easy to understand. Who knows, maybe i just didn't pay enough attention during Inception.

I was merely illustrating why, the first time I saw it, I didn't fully understand it. My girlfriend started making out with me. The theater was dead, and we alone at the back. So why not? I'm not gonna turn her down. Besides we were just kissing a lot. What's the harm in that?
"The small boy". My guy predicting the future. He really is a boy/man now.
"...this small boy..." 12/2020 - When the dream became reality....
Pretty amazing how anyone who dares criticise the film is always met with "you just didn't _get_ it, you're stupid!!1", while there is nothing to "get". The plot isn't deep, nor is it difficult to follow or understand. Inception is basically Paprika mixed with a heist film.
Not to say that it's a _bad_ film, I actually found it pretty entertaining to watch and technically very well executed.
The only really jarring thing to me was the very last shot of the film, looking at the spinning top, where the film seems to imply doubt whether it will stop spinning, which doesn't make any sense.
The ending was left for the viewer to interpret themselves. I saw the top wobbling and a wobbling top cant wobble forever. So it cant be a dream.
However other people question why there was a cut to black before it is shown what happens to the top, and i think that was just to leave you mindfucked
You see, some people think the end was a dream. That cobb was in limbo when he met his children and dad. Wrong, because you see 1) there was the wobbly top and 2) wether or not he and saito die in limbo or not, they will wake up eventually when the effects of the sedative they took on the plane wore off. It maybe 10 hrs inflight but 100 years in limbo. They would eventually wake up. Thats why i think the end was real and the director made the cut to black to let u think about the stuff i said above.
krelshell4 The thing is, IIRC there's no possible doubt in the ending because the top was clearly explained to be originally Mal's totem, not Cobb's. Why would it work for him? I remember Cobb saying to never show your totem to anyone, so he didn't. I personally interpreted his kids faces to be Cobb's actual totem, in which case the ending is clearly reality. I guess Cobb just kept the top around as a memento to his mistake of letting Mal believe she's always stuck in a dream, and his inability to let her go.
This is why I thought it didn't make sense for the film to create doubt around whether the totem will fall (other than just to mindfuck people), because it doesn't matter. The top doesn't work properly for Cobb anyway. In the end he leaves it behind because he has finally gotten over his regrets.
Maybe I'm going a bit too deep here (badumtish); if you do take the top to be Cobb's real totem I think the ending still doesn't revolve around whether or not it is reality, Cobb clearly chooses for his kids whatever it might be.
to me it was a dream. you happen to re-unite with your kids in a day that looks exactly like the one you always remember/dream about? come on...even the light of the sun (the position of the sun in the sky) looks exactly like his dream...
just like when the matrix was new and in... all my mates would go philosophical about a movie who's only complexity is that it doesn't make a point except for in a few moments that are: machines control the humans - neo has to save them - by killing smith - end. It's actually funny how easy you can trick people into thinking there's actually something complex behind it.
Shut up
People that criticize Inception for being a scrape of the Matrix obviously don't understand Inception. It was am amazing and original movie which makes you think about dreams and reality, so unless you don't understand it you cant say it's a bad film.
Yes, because The Matrix didn't do that. To each their own but in my opinion this movie is massively over-rated, and so is Christopher Nolan.
Barry Gormley no he's not, he has made some of the best films in the 21st century, most people do recognise that nolan is a master of his craft.
Tom Chambers I don't care how many people say that; doesn't make it so. Nolan's movies are all riddled with flaws and plot-holes that the audience doesn't notice because he distracts them with mountains of exposition and scenes that race by before you can really think about what you're watching. This creates the illusion that you're seeing a "smart" movie when in reality it's no deeper than the typical summer blockbuster. Even his Batman movies, which are among my favourites, aren't nearly as good as they're made out to be.
Barry Gormley trust me Nolan is not your typical director who just churns out money making blockbusters. The only reason there are 'mountains of explosions', is because he is under pressure from fat cat executives to make a film that will attract all audiences. And they aren't 'riddled' with flaws either. I'm not saying his films are perfect but he has produces some of the finest pieces of original cinema i have ever seen.
Barry Gormley
inception is some really really tight story telling :/

A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world."
For some reason I understand the concepts in Inception.
“This small boy”. Turns out they weren’t too far off...
'This small boy' Looks like Honest Trailers knew before Elliot did.......
2:36 i died right there
Seriously! I paused and laughed for a minute.
😂😂😂
plus Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is Robin, Hans Zimmer who made the music and Christopher Nolan who shot the movie. Srsly, they're all the same xD
The best part is that in the TDKR honesty trailer they say "starring... The cast of inception"
please do an honest trailer for John Wick
What about Joseph Gordon-Levitt he was in the dark knight rises too
I'll never get why people thought that movie was so mind-blowing. It's a fairly basic sci-fi twist on a heist movie with 1-2 characters literally completely dedicated to explaining every nuance of the premise over and over and over. It's genuinely not complicated, and the two sentences required to describe the dream stuff is explained ad nauseum. It's not complicated narratively, and it's not complicated in world-building. It's a one-note sci-fi concept that is explained to death throughout.
The sound design is amazing, though.
"This small boy" huh i guess he is now xD
"This small boy" I lost my shit
Sam A - Nearly died at "fivehead"!
"...even though it's just The Matrix."
Um... how?
magmablock Not to be insulting but kind of yes :) It's one of the important elements of science fiction . Inception is a better film than the matrix trilogy . However the first matrix will always remain one of the best in the genre
magmablock Both films are about the nature of reality, and the difficulty of determining what is 'reality' and what isn't. Both films are about moving in and out of alternative realities, for some sort of plot based goal, with lots of violence and action. Both films allow for the laws of physics to be bent by realities controlled by a human mind. The ultimate goal of the lead character in both films is ultimately an internal, mental one - Neo must believe he is the one, Cobb must deal with his past... But I agree, the differences on the surfaces of both films are so huge to say that Inception is the Matrix is a bit much.
magmablock Actually Matrix is ripped off another Japanese Anime "ghost in the shell"
magmablock This, if anything it's more like Paprika or that Donald Duck comic with the exact same plot as Inception. HOW is it like the Matrix...
Wang Yingsen Which ripped off 20 films from the 1920s and 30s :-P
"This small boy" and "tooken" from Taken might be my favorite honest trailer line readings. I've watched both like 25 times.
“Five Head”
Omg 🤣
I don't get it
Isn't Joseph Gordon-Levitt one of the cast of The Dark Night Rises?
+MsVictoriousrocks I'm guessing they wanted a different joke for him
Inception came before dark knight rises
@@thegreatherox this honest trailer didn't
The only thing I don't understand is that when Cobb reminded Mal their world (Limbo) was not real/death was the only escape, it was inception, and that idea was implanted in her mind when they came back to reality. However, when Cobb tells Saito that their world (Limbo) is not real/death is the only escape, that idea was not implanted in Saito's mind when he wakes up on the plane. Can someone explain this paradox?
doody magoob Well its never really revealed if Cobb was still dreaming when he reached home so ...
We don't know that it didn't?
This is not contradictory or a paradox in the film. This might be a little long, but i'll explain why
The reason is because Cobb is the one telling Saito that limbo is not real, he is directly telling him that, he didn't perform inception on him because with inception, the subject has to be the one to discover the idea and realize it themselves, they have to think the thought originated from within them, not from someone else planting it there.. They explain this in the scene earlier in the film when trying to explain to Saito why inception is so hard to pull off, Arthur says "Don't think about Elephants" and then asks "Now, what are you thinking about?" And Saito as anyone would, says "Elephants" and Arthur goes on to say that it's not his idea, because he knows the origin of the thought was not from himself
But with Mal, she didn't know Cobb planted that idea in her head, he never even said anything, he just spun her top (her totem) that was in her safe, and by doing that, he altered her perception of reality (if you remember, a totem loses it's purpose if someone else knows how it operates, like how only Arthur knows the weight and balance of his loaded die, so obviously no one would be able to alter it, or fake it in a dream, because only he knows the truth of how it feels in his hand)
And please no one say that he reveals the truth to Mal at the end of the film, because that is obviously not actually her, just Cobb's projection of her within his subconscious
Thank you so much! I love this movie and now I understand. Bricksquadswag92
Bricksquadswag92 I love how this brilliant response comes from someone named "Bricksquadswag92" You were really helpful by the way.
Honestly speaking you were right about 'the small boy' who can suddenly learn to make complex dream mazes...
I’m happy see that everybody remembers this joke Lmaooo you know what I’m talking about..
I liked Inception.
yeah that movie was really good
But that horn..... A little warning would be nice! I had to leave after that... which was funny because I was watching it at home.
JapaneseVixenofArt
you forgot to mention half the movie takes place while a car is falling off a bridge
The fact that the actual honest trailer only took up only about 2 mins and 30 seconds from this whole video really speaks volumes. Demonstrates that Christopher Nolan’s Inception was a true masterpiece, so much so that you couldn’t find too much to pick on it
2:26 "Seriously, they couldn't just dream up a tank or something?!"
I think if they did that, then it would alert more of Mr Fischer's subconscious security then they'd be in even more danger
Cobs real totam was his wedding ring.
That's what makes the ending of inception so genious.
I love how I love this movie, but totally laughed at this trailer. So freaking true.
Aha I just made you remember you made this comment
Trent Fredrickson I don’t even remember making this comment.
@@davidr1620 exactly
@@davidr1620 Well, now you do...
@@SSS20025 and now I don’t even remember making my comment about not remembering the comment.
2:03 Witness leonardo DiCaprio fight his way to any physical challenge but struggle to squeeze through an alley way 😂😂 I lost it when leo was try hard to get out I was laughing so hard 😂😂
"If Cobb couldn't enter the country, Michael could have take out his children to him"
Last line Spoiled the movie forever for me.. 😣😣
Eh. If Michael caine tried to fly the kids, the government would probably keep track of where they were going. After all, their father was a wanted man, they would want to keep tabs on his family
Why did you watch the honest trailer before the movie. Sorry if I sound harsh but it’s all your fault lol
Who would send kids out of the country to an accused killer?
Wow good job, watching an honest trailer of a movie you've never watched and then claiming that the movie has been spoiled for you.
0:27-0:34 Hilarious. Also loved the Starring portion, but that's a given. South Park's Insheeption episode was also great.
Do The Great Gatsby!
0:30 Honest trailers knew it the whole time...
“This small boy.” how... how did they know???
the director of 2 good batman movies: batman begins and the dark knight rises
How do you not think "The Dark Knight" was a good batman movie? It had one of the best acting performances of all time!!!
The Dark Knight is the best movie of the trilogy
Batman begins is not better than the dark knigth
Or maybe because this video was made before the dark knight rises was released into cinemas...
I was actually just trolling in my original comment because i think it's so smug how they tried to write-off the dark knight rises with that joke. dark knight *is* probably better and i was such a huge fan when it came out, but now it gets so over-hyped by people which is annoying. there are just as many stupid things in TDK as in TDKR, but honest trailers seems way too biased towards TDK and trashes Rises way too much.
"This little boy" - lololololol
Even though in reality, dreams generally feel a lot shorter than the actual time you're asleep for.
‘Including this small boy’
You called it honest trailers !
That's why they're called honest trailers
