This is just a reminder that you STILL HAVE TO DO A CLONE WARS HONEST TRAILER!
The good 2003 one or... The other one?
YESSSSSS!!! CLONE WARS HONEST TRAILER YOU SHILLS! @screenjunkies
@@SmegulonPrimethey already did the 2003 2D cartoons and the movie… we need the 3D show now! And the Bad Batch for good measure cause why not.
@@SmegulonPrime The good one (only one that most people actually care about) was in 2008.

'cause it's true 😶
It really, really, does.
Until Andor happened
Phantom Menace may have been pretty meh, but it's okay... because so was most of the franchise. Jar Jar just made it easier to notice.
You forgot just how insanely good the Duel of Fates sounds. Granted, it's part of that sweet final duel. But damn if it didn't double its impact.
John Williams' music is often the best thing about the films he scored.
I was coming here to say that. For me, the Duel of the Fates instantly earned a place next to the iconic musical themes of the original trilogy.
By far, BEST part of the film.
It's the only reason that fight had any impact. Take away the music and you realise how much of the fight is just them spinning and twirling at nothing for no reason.
03:24 "- He's too old. - Maybe for the Jedi, but 9 is fine for Padme." Damn, that one had me good-- Props to the one who came up with it! 😂
It comes full circle. The first honest trailer over twelve years ago, now revisited.

"my Tesla killed more people than them" that was so wizard lmao
"Where the magic leaps from his first draft directly to the screen." 😂👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Actually, I think this was his second draft. I heard originally it was Obi-Wan's movie. When Obi-Wan gets to Coruscant he enlists Qui-Gon to return with him to help fight the Trade Federation (and Darth Maul) on Naboo. But Lucas had second thoughts and decided to make Qui-Gon the main character, I guess because he didn't think he'd do another master-and-apprentice movie.
I remember this movie being so hyped, people were buying tickets to Meet Joe Black just to watch the trailer (then promptly leaving).
For the younglings, UA-cam wouldn't exist for seven more years at that point, so we couldn't just look it up back then.
Because streaming codecs and bandwidth hadn't converted yet. The trailer was eventually available for download; but the best version was only available from Apple for QuickTime on their Macs.
You could, actually. Looking it up just took you to the movie's website. Unless you had DSL, actually watching the trailer took longer than downloading or streaming it.
My local theater had the trailer before Wing Commander. They wouldn’t refund any tickets once the trailer ran. (Also, it didn’t fare well for Wing Commander when the PC games had a much better cast-including Mark Hamill-than the film.)
Ohh the trailer! I had forgotten how huge the trailer was! "Wipe them out - all of them"
I do remember seeing it again and again, so i think you could look it up.

The Weird Al parody is often the best version of a pop culture touch stone.
Parody can never be better than the original at least because it couldn't have existed without it. It doesn't aim to be better.

The "Watto-gasm" was too funny!
"Nine is fine for Padme"...Brilliant!
I burst out laughing xD
12 years ago, the very first Honest Trailer bashed this film in just 90 seconds. It's great to see them come full circle, revisit the film, and bash it properly for 8 minutes.
All the time they need to properly tear this to shreds.
It wasn’t his plan. His master came up with it.
I can't believe it's been that long.
Rightfully? Or is it their own old biases?
@@Dagenspear Rightfully
To be fair, it's not just the lightsaber duel itself. It's also the music playing alongside it.
I gave in and went to see this last week. Seeing that Darth Maul battle on the big screen definitely made the whole thing worth it.
Palpatines plan is the most interesting part of this movie, but he takes 2 hours to do like one thing
He’s only in the movie for ten minutes
hmmm... you didn't like he podracer sequence, the lightsaber duels, seeing coruscant for the first time or hearing the music? Must be hard to watch a movie for you if to like one thing it must be perfect.

Hey, the Watto'gasms are funnier than Ahsoka's and Sabine Wren's extensive sighs from the show. 😂
I was crying of laughter at that XD
I think that one bit has just finally completely ruined this movie for me. The film certainly has its negatives but i actually enjoy watching it, but now it will never be the same again.
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be upset if the Ahsoka character was no more
That joke about Watto’gasms reminded me of the Star Wars episode 1 racer game. 😂
@@thedude4672 Agreed. Ahsoka after the Clone Wars (but before the Disney season) isn't good anymore.
"First draft to screen" pretty much sums it up
There was no one his equal to critique his script. Spielberg got a sneak peak but I don't think got the script. And when Ben Burtt sat in the editor's chair, it was all filmed and too late. Though he could have at least taken out the line about "another pathetic life form" which tells us to hate Jar Jar and Anakin.
But actually, I think it was second draft. It was originally Obi-Wan's movie with him meeting Qui-Gon on Coruscant and getting him to go with him/them to Naboo. But Lucas wanted a master-and-apprentice movie, so changed it.
The Darth Maul duel IS literally the only redeeming thing in it.
Fun fact: Jar Jar Binks is the only character in The Phantom Menace who has an arc of any sort.
I think Padme has a decent arc. She goes from hiding to fighting.
@@nbarbettini Hardly an arc when we never really see her challenged or see her personality change or develop in any meaningful way. She just reveals herself in the end and fights

@@Simon-xc5oyThat's all thanks to Lucas' direction. Natalie Portman & Keira Knightley are excellent in everything else they've been in.

"Where his magic leaps from first draft directly to the scene" Brutal
I just realized the Phanom Menace and the Obi Wan series can be described the exact same way. A slog with that one character everyone hates that is over used, with some really questionable dialog and story choices, but none of it matters because of the epic lightsaber fight in the finale.
Don't lump me with the haters. After IV, V, and VI, this is the only other Star Wars movie I like. And I quite enjoy the simple amusement of Jar Jar.
Everyone hates Obi?
"Prepare to overheat a warehouse full of Gateway desktops" - that hits too close to home because in 99 I had just bought a Gateway PC (Pentium IV 550 MHz).
I bought a Gateway in 2000. Hated it. It always crashed.

I subscribe to the theory that Jar Jar was originally suppose to turn out to be a Sith agent and was just playing the fool, but George got cold feet over how much people hated the character.
Jar-Jar is not only a "Sith agent", he is easily the hidden master of Darth Sidious.
At last, he will reveal himself, Darth Clumsy will rule the galaxy!

Please don't make me feel old!
The Phantom Menace is closer in age to Return of the Jedi than to the last sequel The Rise of Skywalker.
“my Tesla killed more people than them.” One of the funniest lines ever.

Darth Jar Jar remains the best path Star Wars should build upon
Leave it to Lego to make Darth Jar Jar a reality, and Ahmed Best is the GOAT for reprising the role.
"Messa absolute dream of so" :)
They’re actually using Darth Jar Jar in the Lego Star Wars movie. Using the same guy.
This was the first "Star Wars" movie I ever saw in Theater. I saw it with my Grandma.
We shouldn't criticize kids for liking their first time blockbuster experience. Had more kids had their opinions put on the internet in 1999-2000 then it would have brought balance to the criticism made by the older generation that had their childhood saved by the original _Star Wars_ after Vietnam.
I watched Episode I in theaters with my friends and family when I was 15; I really liked it.
Rewatching it for the 25th, yeah I definitely felt its dragging length especially since they used the NEW cut, but there was still a lot I enjoyed and was happy I saw on the big screen.
I felt the opposite. It's fast-paced and never bogs down.
@@JustPippaNY One thing I hated about “The Force Awakens” is that it never slows down. It’s just one action scene after another without a break.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd rather have a film go too slow than too fast
The reason this movie has been retconned into a good movie is that the pod race and the Darth Mual fight are some of the best moments in the franchise.
But at what cost...

I first saw this film at 19. I had previously only seen Empire when I was 12.
Without this film, I wouldn't be a Star Wars fan
I remember well going to see this movie with my friends and coming out in silence for a while afterwards. Kind of an awkward silence, where nobody was quite sure what we had just seen. Moments of this is cool, followed by moments of WTF Jar Jar and midichlorian count?! More Jar Jar!?! Oh cool light saber fight.
I think each of the prequel movies has its own major flaw. For Episode 1, it's the failed attempts at humor. For 2, it really drags in the middle. For 3, it's that there's no emotional attachment in the first half of the film. Oddly enough, years later, TLJ managed to combine all of these flaws into a single film. But I digress.
When I saw it with my friends, one of them commented that he believed that episode 1 was lighthearted to set a tone, one to contrast with the darker parts of the story to be told in episode 2 and 3. Personally, though, based on Howard the Duck and such, I think it is more a Lucas issue, with nobody on the team being able to say, "Nope, this sucks, George. It needs to change."
@@Axterix13 I feel that RedLetterMedia really nailed what was wrong with the Star Wars Prequels and it was a lot. There was just so much wrong with those movies and the Sequels being terrible doesn't make them better. Lucas is clearly one of those creatives who works best with someone supervising them to keep him from going full Lucas and not just surrounding him with a bunch of yes men.
I agree the prequels are nothing like the original trilogy, but I grew with them along watching the original trilogy, and they hold a place in my heart. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, rather they like the prequels or not.
But people are not entitled to claim MY opinion has changed and that I'm now one of millions who realize how wrong we were about this inept POS when it first came out. Thanks to HT for telling these toxic retconners that their plan ain't working.
The prequels were the beginning of the end for the Star Wars franchise. Shoulda left it at 3 movie

Qui-gon wants to spare Jar Jar from the other Gungan's punishment, so he takes him with them on the journey.
Qui-gon convinces Amidala to travel to Coruscant together. If he hadn't, the film would be much different.
Anakin steps in to save Jar Jar from Sebulba, offers the company a shelter during sandstorm and is willing to help them repair the ship, after which Qui-gon takes interest in Anakin, therefore opting for a risky bet that could get him both the repair and the boy.
After encouragement from his mother Anakin decides to leave with Qui-gon and become a Jedi. This results with the rest of the saga happening.
The senate's unwiligness to take immediate action and Palpatine's manipulation causes Amidala to make a vote of no confidence against the Chancellor and decide to take Naboo back with the help of the Gungans.
The Council's unwillingness to train Anakin causes Qui-gon to take him to Naboo and begin training him on his own.
Amidala convinces Boss Nass to make peace and aid her with taking back the capital.
