Options/Test does 'not' back up your files, as you stated @7:30. It saved the OBD2 connection and interface is all. Also, folks, keep in mind that this was 5 yrs ago, and VCDS is now on v23.3 (as of today) and a lot of these functions he's doing are more intuitively named, and the door ding is a separate thing (depending on the model/yr)
The dinging isn’t so you remember your door is open, it’s to remind you your key is still in the ignition or that you left your lights on, so you don’t lock yourself out of your car, or so that you don’t leave your key in the car and have someone drive away with it.
My only issue with DRL’s is some vehicles don’t bring the rear lights on when in DRL mode. Because dashboards are so well illuminated these days, people assume their lights are on and in adverse conditions or bad light the fact they have front lights only only is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. People forget to turn lights on so why not just forget about sidelights and have DRL’s that have the rear lights on as well and then main headlights when required. Volvo preempted DRL’s by decades by just having their lights on sidelights permanently until main headlights were required. There was no option for no lights, this was the subject of much derision at the time but it’s now considered the safe thing to do. Nice video.
Man! You are the most amazing video tutorial I found,, the best, very detail very clear, Amazing! Please keep making videos VCDS tutorial for us! Thank you 🙏
this was a great video, thank you! just got vcds, was using a cheap cable with 'car port', worked ok for years, but couldnt ever import label files. have the 2.5 jetta 2005.5, love it so much.
With the VCDS you only pay once but with OBDeleven might have to pay to do various things. With VCDS it is $300 one time and no subscriptions are needed. It was made to be something we could buy easily enough.
Now that's a nice explained, valuable video ! 💯 Man, I totally appreciate your work and info's you shared with us ! 🙏 Thanks a lot, Keep it up the great work ! 💪
Ross Tec allows you to buy more vins If you buy the cable with three vins you can upgrade to 10 if you buy it with 10 you can upgrade to unlimited you do not have to buy a second cable
you dont need to change the VCI interface if you want more VIN's you just upgrade your current VCI to enthusiast - 10 VIN or Proffesional - Unlimited 👍 i own the Hex Net Proffesional btw 👍
Thanks for the video. I recently purchased the HEX v2 for my 2018 Golf R. I followed your clearly laid out directions however I’m seeing that my current long string of “current code” are all zeros. And when I click on long coding helper I get the following message. “coding is NOT supported by this Control Module variant. Replacement Control Modules must be parameterized by using the Factory Tool and Software Version Management (SVM). Would appreciate any help. I’m using version 20.4.2 of VCDS software.
Hey, this a great video! I've got a '14 VW Jetta 1.8t APR Stage II with quite a few interior mods. I purchased a RNS510, a Golf R steering wheel and am looking into getting an upgraded instrument cluster. I don't want to purchase a brand new one, but I've heard used clusters can be a headache; can VCDS program the cluster so it shows the correct mileage for my car and not the car it was taken from? Hoping you can answer this, I've scoured the internet with no definitive answers. Purchasing this set up is definitely an investment, I didn't think the cable was going to be so expensive.
Hi Lauren! Very cool mods. I have looked through the various VCDS options and I found somewhere where it said mileage in KM. It appeared that you could change it. I’m not sure what the law is, but just be careful there! I’ll take a look soon to see exactly where it was, can’t remember at the moment. I think though if you change your cluster it might stay the same as the odo is set at the ECM. I could be wrong there but that’s my presumption. I’d change it out and just see if it remains the same. Hope that helps and I’ll look for it soon and post back.
Great video! Just wanted to ask, was your ignition on? If so, how can I go about using VAG-COM if my car has a push-start button? Just keep car off and plug the cable? Thanks in advance.
I have a 2012 VW Jetta TDI and the key blade broke out of the fob swing arm. I took the battery out and replace with a type 2 swing arm (note: arm will not swing properly but it will hold the key). After putting the remote back together the remote buttons works, but now the car is saying "No KEY" when I try to start. It is not a keyless start. I thought that the IMMO code would hold even if the battery was removed. The remote held the ENVIRO codes to open and close the doors. Any help? I only have the one key -and I am stuck.- (A local eastern block VW specialist told me to separate the remote board from the key casing an place the board right up against the area around the ignition switch while using the mechanical key to start the car. It took 5 tries but it worked. Once the auto starts and reads the code you can remove the bare circuit and drive normally. WOW!!!) TDI Love from Chicago...
I had the same issue popping up on my jetta a couple years ago but I had accidentally washed my keys with my clothes. The best things you can do are either customize the codes with vcds (idk how but you probably can disable the immobilizer) or just go and do the proper thing and buy the $250 key from the stealership.
The funny thing is that washing key should not make any difference on the (2009-2018) ones with the pin holding the halves together), but the older two-part keys with the glass RFID (from 2001-2005) could break and have you stranded. No simple way to disable Immobilizer with VCDS even with a working key. The Black RFID chips are solid too. ALL the RFID circuits and chips get their power from the reader ring around the ignition switch or designated keyless areas and not the remotes internal battery. So, on the newer remotes, you can damage the RFID board and reduce the range of the RFID to transmit. I did this when I forced the pin in to try and repair a broken swing arm. I had to place the RFID(removed from the key) in just the right spot around the ignition switch to get the immobilizer to read the damaged RFID. but it worked and I was able to drive the car to the locksmith. He said that that little trick saved me $500. Apparently, if you have no working remote and just the mechanical key blade is cost 3x more at a locksmith because the computer will not accept immobilizer coding without a working key. (note: the above date ranges might be a little off) TDI Love from Chicago...
awesome video sir ! i have one question though please.. can the jetta 2016 be programmed to have electronicly folding mirrors? i dont seem to have this option although i have the fully loaded jetta model
i have a 2021 jetta gli autobahn, i have obd adapter (carista-if your familiar with that at all) it does not give me the option for lane change which the default is set to 3, can this be changed to 5 ? thru the vcds ?

Hello thanks for the video. I have a 2017 jetta s 1.4t I believe it's still a mk6 where is the best place to get coding options available? Thanks again
my 2013 VW JETTA TDI....why do my dashboard lights go off when the headlights aren't on ...so when its gets dusk outside my dashboard is totally dark until i turn on the head lights? is there any way to have park lights on without the head lights
The reason your dash lights gets dimmer during dusk or passing thru a tunnel is to sort of inform you that its possible your may need to turn on your head lights.... this only applies if the car isn't equipt with automatic lights.
nivasyl - You might get away with using an alternative, but just keep in mind you won't get any support, and I believe it's limited to read-only so you can't update codes like in the video. May be better to rent the real-deal on eBay. Check the links in the description. Thanks for watching!

WARNING! Never knock(or push) the pin in on a remote that you wish to keep the board. I don't care how good you think you are. The pin MIGHT knock off a micro resistor on the immobilizer RFID side of the circuit and will render the RFID unable to communicate inside the remote casing. You will see "NO KEY" on dash and the car will start and stop immediately. To remove the board: Drill a hole under the pin and pry the remote open. This mistake costs me $400. I like the old two part VW remotes. If you can find a way to pull the pin out, without tearing up the case, please let us all know. TDI Love from Chicago...
Thanks for the tip GallowayChicago! Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm not personally familiar with remote reprogramming, but appreciate the tip here. Glad to hear you got it working in the end despite the cost! Some things are best left to the dealer I suppose. Thanks for watching!
Here is the thing: of the two dealers closest to me (one in Indiana and one in down-town Chicago) the prices are widely divergent. Highland VW in Indiana charges $135 key + $100 programming and -I-NEVER-GO-THERE- VW in down-town Chicago charges $165 key + $171 programming. For those keeping count; That is $235 vs $336, roughly a $100 difference. You might say well each dealer has to pay different amounts to VWoA and must charge more/less in relation to that cost. Nope each dealer gets the same keys from VWoA distribution and the keys come already cut and ready to be programmed. The lesson boys and girls is: "Don't expect all dealer to have the same pricing." Respect your families treasure and shop around. (BTW: Each dealer requires you to tow the auto in and show proof of ownership then wait 2-7 days to get the key(s) from VWoA authorized distribution). In Chicago I went to ChicagoCarKeys.com. They will come to you and make keys for ALL cars even Ferraris/Maseratis/ & Land Rovers. TDI Love from Chicago...

Ross Tec allows you to buy more vins If you buy the cable with three vins you can upgrade to 10 if you buy it with 10 you can upgrade to unlimited you do not have to buy a second cable
Thanks Kevin, that is great to know!
True it's $170 per upgrade
I think for the heated seats, active for ten minutes means that they will turn on for the first ten minutes of driving and then shut off
you dont need to change the VCI interface if you want more VIN's you just upgrade your current VCI to enthusiast - 10 VIN or Proffesional - Unlimited 👍 i own the Hex Net Proffesional btw 👍
Can this do diagnostics and clear codes?
Great video! Thanks!
Can you please send link to the cable and the software.
