Judy, you have a beautiful, kind, thoughtful voice, also. Thanks for sharing your memories and research of Earl Hamner, Jr. Well done, keep up the good work!
It's wonderful how grounded Earl Hamner was. Earl opening the door to his life helps to remind us of our past and to appreciate every minute. It is nice though you can go back and watch the Walton's. It is a calm place. Judy thank you for sharing all Mr. Hamner accomplishments. Loved everyone on the show. God bless♥️
I myself watch the show to calm down and chill out at the end of the day! As you said, he opens the door to his life back in the day and for a few moments, you are transported back to another time and place. Though fictional and idealistic, it helps one's nerves settle down in an otherwise fast-paced and tense world.
I love the way you put that Tammy. !! Very accurate !! Its amazing that a tv show and the wonderful cast had so much meaning to so many and it reconnects us immediately to our past. So touching💖you really get to know his family in a way that makes you feel like your own family. Earl has a great talent. Now that's success. RIP Earl🙏
Why am I crying!!!!! When you were reading, I heard Earl's voice. The softness in his voice wrapped his words in tenderness and love. I am an amateur writer and I hope with practice and skill, I will be half the writer Earl was. (Jeez, I'm still crying). Those images of the blue ridge mountains are far from the surroundings I grew up with, but somehow Earl made those mountains feel like home. I know I mentioned this to you before, your voice is so soothing, I could see you doing ebooks.
What a timely and beautiful Eastertide tribute to Mr. Hamner! Thanks so much, Judy! I second the book recommendation! In the 1990s, I hosted a local live radio interview program where I live in Pennsylvania. A colleague at the station asked if I could interview anyone in the world, who would it be. Earl Hammer, of course. And, John Boy, Richard Thomas. My friend encouraged me to pursue such an interview. Not in my wildest dreams could I imagine Mr. Hamner would agree to such a small scale interview. Not only did he agree, he inconvenienced himself to be interviewed at 3:00 a.m. California time! My show was at 6:00 a.m. EST! Mr. Hamner sounded exactly the same as on TV ! The radio call-in board lit up like the 4th of July with local callers wanting to personally tell Mr Hamner how much they loved him and the Walton's! I could hardly believe I was talking with the original "John Boy" and struggled to maintain a professional demeanor. People here have asked about Olivia's family. I learned in interviewing Mr Hamner that his mother's ancestors were the Giannini's, hailed from Lucca, Italy, and came to America as part of Thomas Jefferson's effort to establish a thriving vineyard for wine! Mr. Hamner's maternal ancestor grew Thomas Jefferson's vineyard! Here's a funny coincidence: My own great-grandfather came from Lucca, Italy! I wondered if that had anything to do with my fondness for the Walton's. Mr. Hamner was so gracious to the listeners calling the radio show. He patiently answered everyone's questions and took as many questions as time allowed. He was/is the epitome of a gentleman and about as dear as anyone can possibly be. Richard Thomas, too, sacrificed his sleep to answer countless questions from his many, many fans! And, Richard Thomas, too, could not have been more gracious! Such generous and humble people. Again, this quality of kindness and generosity just overflows from the very first broadcast of The Homecoming. You are all very special people. Much admiration and much love. Easter Blessings to you and your family, Judy, and to Walton's everywhere. ❤️📝📚📽️🎬📽️🌹❤️🕊️
Loved your reading from "Good night, John Boy" , and hearing Earl's own words about his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. That was quite special. Thank you so much.
Hi! Judy, I'm glad Earl Hamner did The Waltons about his family. It's a warm and heart catching show that brings a family together on Thursday nights. He picked the right cast to play his family.😁👍
I'm so glad earl hammer created the waltons you did a great and smart choice to create the show one of the best shows ever in the world judy definitely is
I remember watching Spencers Mountain as a very young lad before the Waltons came out. I always liked that movie. As a child it was always nice to watch movies with kids that was my age. Thank you Judy for bringing the pleasant memories of my own childhood back to me with these walks down memory lane with the Waltons. I sincerely say the Waltons was my all time favorite show I watched and still watch it.
I love the episode “The Journey.” How lovely to discover that Earl played Michael MacKenzie in Maggie’s flashback scene while dancing with John Boy! That episode still brings the waterworks! 😊
Thanks again Judy for another great video. Earl Hamner jr. had such a soothing voice. I hadn’t heard of that book before. I went on Amazon and ordered a copy. As you were reading I have tears in my eyes. You read it beautifully.
This World could use a lot more Richard Thomas's and Earl Hammer's during this pandemic since March 2020. We miss you all Will Geer, Ellen Corby, Ralph Waite, Earl Hammer Jr and many Others including our own Loved Ones. Thank you Judy for sharing these memories. Happy Easter Weekend to you and your Family.
Wow! Great video Judy! It transcends that homey feeling from Mr. Hamner through you, to us. And it makes it perfectly clear why we fans love the Waltons so much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories.
Earl's voice is the perfect medium to listen to a comfortable story of his family that sounds similar to so many of us with our families. It tugs on our heart strings now even more than when we were growing up. If you have been with the Waltons since the beginning then you too know the hurt of losing loved ones that comes with the natural passage of time. Not long after my mother passed my dad took his leave of us as well. They rest now under pine trees with scented needles all around and warm sun on them. It was very difficult having to sell our family home because none of us kids could take it over at that time in our life. When we watch the Waltons I think many of us see our family too.
Thank you Judy. You have become quite a gentlewoman and your series is bringing forth much love for so many people. You are a very fine person and I admire your integrity. If my jabs about your nurse uniform caused you any discomfort, I sincerely apologize. Giving compliments today is so fraught with danger. Give me our days that you and I grew up in where we could speak openly. 😇
I visited his home and the museum in Schuyler. I picked up and read Earl Hamner From Walton’s Mountain to Tomorrow that I purchased on that trip. I am now reminded that I want to read Good Night John Boy. I so much enjoy your videos and am able to occasionally catch a rerun on TV. It all warms my heart. Thank you for your part in all of that. Your work then and currently are very much appreciated.
I HAVE TO NOT LET MYSELF GET TO CAUGHT UP, TEARS IT BRINGS TO ONES EYES , ONE CAN FEEL HIS FAMILY AND OUR OWN, HOW TIME WASHES IT AWAY, YET IT'S CAPTURED FOR EVER
Thanks for spotlight on Earl Hamner Jr. Judy. Loved Spencer's Mountain. Mr. Hamner was a gifted writer and master storyteller. I didn't know he cast such a wide net! Writing was truly his bailiwick and life calling! I wonder if he ever envisioned he would become so successful doing something he truly loved! Happy Easter Judy! 🐣and thanks!
Love the Heartwarming stories Earl wrote. "Though the tethers may have been stretched as we went our separate ways, they were never broken". Earl's writing about the Walton children grown and gone their separate ways in the world. Earl had an elegant and eloquent way of wording life he wrote about. I could always picture in my head what he wrote. I related so much. Judy, thank you. I love your videos. And you look Beautiful after all these years.
So interesting to hear more about the man who created The Waltons! Earl had such a beautiful way with words and I always love hearing his voice at the beginning and end of each episode. Thank you for talking about him Judy, his memory and legacy will live on in The Waltons.
For me, Earl's narration is part of what makes the show unique and special. His gentle voice is that of a true storyteller and the brief descriptions he gives at the beginning and ending of the show provide a snapshot of his life and his family.
I’m watching The Vigil episode (9/30/76) right now where grandma got sick in the hospital. You had a big part in that episode. You were crying in the episode. As an actress did you ever have trouble being able to cry on film? Actor asking an actor. By the way, you are the prettiest Walton girl❤️
This was great! I loved finding the video on UA-cam a while back where he goes home and we see his mother and all of you talk to the real siblings you are playing. Just listening to you read I wanted to cry thinking of that time gone by. Thank you for making these wonderful videos!
Just lovely Judy. How wonderful to hear you read Earl’s words. Just a moving tribute to him. It made me sad but grateful that his words and this show are here for us to enjoy. ♥️
He was such a beautiful writer. Hearing his stories of parental and familial love was a dream I clung to during a difficult childhood. I held his stories tightly to my heart of what was possible, although not my personal experience. That it was possible to have family support and feel safe in a home was a dream that gave me hope for my adult future, when a child trapped in a home with recurring violence and trauma. The Waltons every Thursday night where the family of my dreams.
I'm glad that we had Earl Hamner & the cast of "The Waltons" to truthfully portray the American family experience during the Great Depression. I'm sure many European families can relate to the show also. "The Waltons" family made it through the Great Depression with their virtue & dignity intact...Or, as Hamner put it, "living through a depression but rarely knowing what it was to be depressed".
We were truly blessed to have this writer, Earl Hamner Jr, as a gift of American history. Whenever people ask me about the Great Depression and World War II, I suggest they watch The Waltons. Thanks for this video Judy.
Judy, thanks so much for sharing Earl’s words! So comforting was and is his narrative during each episode! My favorite episode of Behind the Scenes so far!💫
What a lovely and moving tribute. I grew up with this show. My parents were from Earl’s generation but we lived north. I just lost my mum recently so I feel like my link to those days is gone.
Beautifully done. As I'm sure millions have told you. The Walton's are an escape I still use to get away. I think that show is my absolute favorite. The one program I would love to travel to.....if that were possible.
Thank you, Judy. You stirred up emotions that we all feel when thinking about home, if we were lucky. Some sad but mostly happy. His writing is so sweet & heartfelt. So are you!
This was beautiful! I will read his book! I didn’t realize his vast talent! He was truly gifted. I think it takes great ability to develop a character of a living person. I’m sure there is a very fine line to walk... wanting to add dimension to the character, but being careful not to offend them in any manner. Thank you, Judy, for bringing such uplifting information each week!
Earl was certainly a gifted writer as proven by these words you just read. My wife and I, she 70 and me 73 now, still watch The Waltons on TV syndicated shows. It takes US back to our childhoods. She too came from a large family of 9 children. They never had a lot and were not "rich" by any measure except love. I have one sister but I am closer to all of my in-laws (I like to say in-loves) than I ever was to my own family. Thank you for sharing and bringing back some fond memories. I Love the "Behind the Scenes" videos. You do a great job.
. Related to this particular episode but on this Easter Sunday I downloaded the Easter movie where John Boy and Janet had their twins. I particularly loved this episode where you were portrayed as a doctor and delivered the twins. This particular story about family needing each other really resonated during this time of the pandemic. I think you did a particularly good job in portraying a physician during this time. Happy Easter
Thankyou for sharing Judy. I loved Earl Hamner. I have read all of his books. He was such a special man. Everyone needs a gentle man just like this in their family. 👍❤️
Love the movie Spencer’s Mountain! Isn’t is wonderful that Earl Hamner’s writings were so well done that we have several insights into the time period and his family life.
I loved this one so much Judy 💕 I honestly don’t think the Walton children would have been as special with those other names & I think what holds so much love for the most of us,is it brings back special memories of our past & I adored hearing earl talk about his past, it brought tears to my eyes as well. And I had no idea he wrote charlottes web, now I love him even more😊 🕷 🐷 Thanks for sharing this wonderful memory of earl & his family 👍
Sooo Beautiful Judy....We should all have an Earl Hamner in our lives to bring balance, hope and love to all of us...things so many of us have put aside these days...Thank you for this...and being you!!!
Judy...very nice and sincere tribute to Earl...those special people we meet along the journey have a way of shaping our own lives....perhaps without us even realizing it until years later...thank you for sharing...
Thanks for these behind the scenes descriptions. My mom grew up on a farm in rural New Jersey, during the depression. I enjoyed watching The Waltons growing up, as it gave me more insight into my mom's experiences. Your descriptions make the stories richer.
Earl also appeared in an episode about John's high school reunion. It was a tribute to John and his accomplishments in life. Thanks for sharing your videos Judy....
I'll have to watch that episode again. The only one I remember from New York was the woman real estate agent....one of John's love interests before Olivia.
Oh, Judy-- How beautiful your tribute to Mr Hamner. His beautiful, poignant words-- and your sensitive and sincere reading of them-- brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat, for i am a huge fan of The Waltons and of Earl Hamner, Jr. Your reading here makes me want to read his books again, and to watch the series again with renewed wonder and appreciation. Thank you for posting this. Your videos are so well done and enjoyable 🎖🏆♥
I grew up in a white clapboard house in the 50s in Connecticut. I was the oldest of seven children. So many fun times and stories that I share with my beloved siblings. We had a barn, chickens and a huge vegetable garden. We swam in the creek down the road. We walked and biked for miles. Earl was such a great story teller. I wonder what his siblings thought of his stories?
I loved Earl’s soothing narration - it was a constant, from “The Homecoming” in 1971 all the way through to “A Walton Easter” in 1997. Even when NBC tried to modernize the series a bit in 1982 - with new titles and theme song and brighter/less grainy film - they thankfully didn’t tinker with Earl’s narration, which still opened and closed those specials.
He had the perfect voice for this show, really added to it!
Yes he did.
People have tried to tell me it was Ralph Waite narrating. They're accent deaf!
Merci beaucoup pour l'histoire de Walton fil avec Earl Hammer Jr. et Judy Norton❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Best line in The Homecoming "Why go around the world to find heathens to preach to when the Blue Ridge mountains are full of them."
One of my favorite scenes!!
A lot of people's definition of a heathen is someone who's religious views differ
@@jeffreydevoti7000 The definition of the word is not the point of the scene. I was meant as a joke in the movie.
@@jeffreydevoti7000 It's really someone who doesn't know God, or have Jesus as their Lord and Savior..

Beautifully done. As I'm sure millions have told you. The Walton's are an escape I still use to get away. I think that show is my absolute favorite. The one program I would love to travel to.....if that were possible.
It takes you to another place. Yes, a true escape. What a good thing IMO! It is Therapy.
So glad to hear that.
Thank you Dear Ms. Judy. You're a gentle and precious soul! :o)
Wow, thank you!
Thank you Judy for this
You're welcome
Thank you, Judy. You stirred up emotions that we all feel when thinking about home, if we were lucky. Some sad but mostly happy. His writing is so sweet & heartfelt. So are you!
Thank you so much. He did indeed create a beautiful show.
You're welcome.
That was wonderful, Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you Judy! You can almost hear in his narration of the show and then as you speak about Mr. Hamner that he must have been a gentle soul.
You're welcome. Yes he was.
So glad you enjoy them. Yes Earl was quite gifted!
Best video yet! I was choking back tears at the end!!
Ahh, thanks
Goodnight, Judy. And, thank you.
Good night Jules.

I never new he was involved with falcon crest. I watched that every Friday night. Thank you for all the "behind the scenes". ☺☺☺
You're welcome.
Thanks. Hope you had a wonderful Easter too!
I never knew he wrote Charlotte's Web. That was the first movie I ever went to see in a theater.
He did not write Charlotte's Web. I believe he wrote the movie screenplay.
@@RamonaBreeze I misspoke. I knew the book was by E.B White. I didn't know he wrote the screenplay for the original cartoon movie from 1973.
A lovely tribute 💕
Yes, he was a very talented writer.
Thankyou for sharing Judy. I loved Earl Hamner. I have read all of his books. He was such a special man. Everyone needs a gentle man just like this in their family. 👍❤️

@@judynorton2598 come on Judy, how can you not? It was brilliant and timely.

Great subject, Judy! Have a great weekend!
Thank you! You too!
Thanks for these behind the scenes descriptions. My mom grew up on a farm in rural New Jersey, during the depression. I enjoyed watching The Waltons growing up, as it gave me more insight into my mom's experiences. Your descriptions make the stories richer.
Thank you so much
Hi Judy THE Waltons Love my favorite one fan BIG Hometown 💖 Love my favorite one fan BIG 💖🎶🦋
🥰
It’s wonderful to learn more about the voice of The Waltons.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Earl also appeared in an episode about John's high school reunion. It was a tribute to John and his accomplishments in life. Thanks for sharing your videos Judy....
Who did he play??
@@loveablegigi1961 He played one of the Students who apparently was successful and came down from NY (although I'm not sure if it was NY)
Thanks for the info!
I'll have to watch that episode again. The only one I remember from New York was the woman real estate agent....one of John's love interests before Olivia.
Loved Earl and his work.. His Son Scott wrote for the young and the restless
Thanks for sharing.
@@judynorton2598 YW i enjoy your videos :)
So happy to hear that. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! I think they enjoyeyed them.
Lovely tribute to a great man. x
Thank you for this.
You're very welcome
I loved Earl’s soothing narration - it was a constant, from “The Homecoming” in 1971 all the way through to “A Walton Easter” in 1997. Even when NBC tried to modernize the series a bit in 1982 - with new titles and theme song and brighter/less grainy film - they thankfully didn’t tinker with Earl’s narration, which still opened and closed those specials.
Yes, glad they didn't change that.
Beautiful job Judy of reminiscing about Mr. Hamner and reading the passage from his book.
Thank you.
