Feels like you're taking into account the "boxing" situation as "solo"...I confess I skipped the comments until ya got going on the list. So I'll take this list as not really a "solo/molo" list as much as a "Boxing" list. So as a "Boxing" list I'd agree mostly, but from a "solo/molo" list some of the choices are WAY off IMO. Bard especially. I'd also disagree with Ranger as either a Solo/molo list or Boxing list...I camp rares...I grind...and I group with others pretty rarely. I've been playing a Ranger/Shaman Boxing duo and that duo can take down most rares I've come across, as well as absolutely slaughter trash mobs super fast for aa xp grinding. I was doing about 1mil dps without even trying the other day with a friend playing his Monk. Ranger solo/molo, you can forget killing rares in current content in T3 level gear....but give me a good supply of humanoid trash targets playing solo and I'll put on a show that'll make your jaw drop! Humanoid targets are not as hard to come by as Undead and other mob types. (ToV being the latest exception) Solo/molo, I'd also drop warrior and cleric down to the bottom tier, for sure. They are basically "raid only" type classes, but you're 100% right about wizards...I wouldn't even have them on the list at all...they are so broken, don't even consider playing one for any reason. A sad state of things, for sure. Nice different type of video man, rock on.
A note on the Beastlords having no real crowd control/escape. They do, in AAs, get a Feign Death. Since they're part monk. One of their AAs gives them the ability to Feign Death. It's like later. Level 85 or higher(may be lvl 100?).
My ranger was fast from PoP to Prohecy... then when I came back about 90 keeping along with headshot was far too easy and stuipd fast. Before the exp nerf in FM I was taking people from 85 to 110 in about 6 to 7 hours while I was pulling about 150aa an hour. I haven't played the current xpack but when your pulling 6 to 9 mil dps stuff melts. Rangers are super safe now with the parry proc buff... I could tank all ToV missions, the next one... CoV I think. I tanked and soloed that 2min mission everyone did but I did tank most of them but the one with the golems. ToL i quit mid way before I got many upgrades but I almost solo the mission with the little aliens that need to get punted, and tanked all the rest. But each xpack had great headshot areas with either too much or just barely enough room to kite. ToV I was kiting frist in rygro mines untill I found out I could keep my tank merc alive myself. a well played ranger can do alot, I was raider so I had gear to go with me and I was top 3 in damage ... if you don't count necro damage. Once you reach headshot rangers cant be beat... you murder everything so far and never take damage. You can swarm pull and burn you mana with the twincast aa buff and tab dot then go back to headshot and drop large groups. Leveling from 75 to 110 super fast.
Haven't played the game in...... a long time. Dark elf Necro, hundreds of days /played. (I completed the coldain prayer shawl, look it up 😅) When i quit, i think max level was 80? Some of my favorite memories from eq are kiting stuff in PoP that groups were struggling with. PoValor, halls of honor, eventually getting flagged for entrance to PoFire. As a very very undergeared level 65 Necro, i could kite multiple mobs at once in pofire, no issue. I had a few items from vex thal, almost no planes gear.i could kill 2 mobs solo in the time a group could kill 1. Always full mana. Just.... Endless mana. Soloed in plane of fear just to flex at like level 62. I think i had maybe 3000hp? pofear might not mean much these days idk. This was back when death was a bad thing. Your corpse stayed where you died, and would decay if you didn't loot it soon enough. Soooo mobs that could summon you and death touched every 30 seconds could become an issue, especially when there are multiple of them. End game necros back then kept quiet about the things they could solo kill, because they didn't want to get nerfed.
From strictly a solo aspect, I've played a mage on and off sin e 1999, and a necro for only about 3 yrs, ignoring other classes i enjoy like ranger and shaman. Necro can definitely handle splitting mobs easily while the mage is f#$%÷#, however, a decent geared mage at 120 with most aa's can easily handle 2 mobs and even three if you're careful, but a necro is generally best at one on one. I am impartial to mage but i love playing my necro as well. One advantage of mage is cc. You have several abilities to mitigate aggro during lengthy or multi mob encounters and can even wipe aggro as needed every 5min. I love my mage, but i wish i could split 3 tough mobs when necessary. It does make solo dungeon crawls very frustrating.
I would donate or subscribe to someone who actually dedicated the time to do a 1-120 series on a Ranger, or a Beastlord. Let alone a bard. People like to come out of the woodwork when you mention their class and talk about what they did at 120, or 115. Or what they did at 60 two decades ago. With no regard to how that journey would feel to a fresh player with nothing but a merc. They don't have that experience, they just have good memories of how strong their class was in a snapshot of time.
I’m doing beastlord 1-125 atm he’s 40. Rogue also. I got challenged to do ranger so that will be soon. Each one will have guides 50 and every 5 levels after that. Some are accelerated starts(twinked) others are fresh starts/ personas
When you say solo do you mean boxing a full group solo or actually playing the character solo/molo? I molo with a merc and I've always defaulted to playing a necromancer. I'm very interested in knowing how good a shadow knight is molo to max level on a live server. Any thoughts? Is it a terrible experience or what?
Solo = 1 character + merc(optional) SK is god tier like necro. Just requires more gear. As long your not cutting edge on content you should fine. Once you are in full raid gear you should be able to solo anything outside of raids and missions. At 100 with Hobz my SK I can solo all content in house of Thule - call of the forsaken. TBM / EOK are rough but they are 105 content and require a group for me.
ya would say try the high end ench charming there monsters there also really good pullers splitters lots of utility that isnt only charming or mezing at 120
Enchanter also gets a MAJOR DPS bump on their DD/DoT spells, and pet durability, post 100. Before that, they really fell off after Level 65 and I started to question why I kept playing mine as my main character when I could also box a Cleric, Shaman, and Druid (all 75-80 at the time.)
I haven't played in a few years but list seems solid. One thing I'd mention about clerics (which was my main) is they're amazing at farming lower tier content and powerleveling. There's something very satisfying about getting DS on you and grabbing 100 mobs to hit you. Good plat, good mats farming
@@hammackj Quick question. I didn't watch your videos in order so I'm confused. In many of them you recommend SK/shaman, but in other videos you say shaman is overrated and can't keep up. Which is it? were you saying they're good early like on TLPs but become worse over the later expansions?
totally agree with the wizard part, i main one and started to raid with him recently, none of the tov and tol stuff that i ran was solo, even now id say i couldnt take a whole lot of hits, and kiting is not what it used to be. Dps seemed amazing with self buffs but we get absolutely destroyed in dps compared to rogues or rangers, and magicians, necros, and beastlords makes wizards look really bad on the solo content as far as what content can be done, would love to see some sort of pet buff (we get swords as pets but they do little damage and cant tank) or a damage/tankiness increase
I've never played one at all. I know they rocked back in the day, when 75 was the cap and Anguish gear was top tier, even in the Darkhollow expansion; but I quit playing shortly thereafter and have no idea what's been done to the class since. 🤷♂️
If its supposed to be a solo/molo list, not considering grouping or raid …. S tier - SK, Nec, BST, Mage …. A tier - PAL, SHM, RNG …. B tier - MNK, DRU, BRD, War (not bad with healer merc)…. the rest of them dont bother trying to solo/molo lol …. The ENC however CAN solo some heavy hitters using charm but its not something you would want to do as an everyday play style for all your time. edit: I would also add the SK is a solo machine but its real power only happens after a significant AA investment into tanking and lifetapping aa's. That's when they turn into the beast. I would rate them equal to Pallies for soloing up to the point AA's come into play
Interesting I agree with the SK. I keep seeing every one rating beastlord s tier, going to be starting a fresh beastlord up soon to try out the solo hype lol
@@hammackj Bst is another IMO that is a decent soloer at lower levels but they improve a lot with aa’s and a raid level pet focus. Their DPS becomes top tier with a good player.
I think if you play a Ranger correctly you would move him up to at least A. They have massive utility and with AA it are able to put out dps at a top notch. They do have some healing ability, they can't be a main healer but they can save the tank or healee in a pinch. As far as solo play, if you can't solo on a ranger you just haven't figured it out yet. Rangers are very nuanced as are bards. A poorly played ranger or bard are just crap. But a well played ranger or bard are top tier.
After a long break from the game, came back and made a ranger. Wish I would have done some more lower level quests, but did a hero 85. It is just a matter of finding mobs that do not summon. Snare, root and shoot. Rinse and Repeat. 113 right now, doing max aa before leveling. Going to level up a box shaman. Some quests take more then one and a good number take a greater dps then I can solo. For the most part say 90% of quests I can solo, and have ran solo from level 85 and maxing out aa at each level.
Nice, how are you soloing the ranger? Ranged/melee? I am going to be doing a ranger solo playthrough soon and would love to know any tips. Haven't played one since classic.
I have a Enchanter and Mage duo, for me it's the perfect 👌 duo, even more so after lvl 100 as the Enchanter gets better. I am able to take away the mage weakness and the same with the enchanters weakness, I can take on rares at higher lvls with ease. I am having a blast 😊👍
Melee classes are more gear dependent for soloing. A raid-geared character will take hits and do more damage, and be much better at soloing. If they're only in group gear, you might move them down a notch compared to the casters.
Late reply but with mercs soloing with Rog is definitely higher than C tier. The reason most classes (like Cleric) are bad at soloing is lack of damage, something a rog never worries about. I definitely think Rogues are on the same level as Monks/Zerkers when MOLOing, imo no class gets a bigger benefit from a mercenary than rogues do.
@@jeffkoenig7402 if you use a tank merc it's fine but the moment you rip away threat you die. Rogue is great in a duo with a healer and tank merc a combo you can do from 1 to 120 with no down time
@@Grinningfartking6969 I don't completely disagree, but as much as much as I hate to say it, I do think that's a case where the difference between F2P and All Access matters. How squishy you are if you pull aggro (at least in group/levelling content) is heavily affected by the defensive AAs you'll have if you use auto grant, but probably won't have if you're grinding your AAs through xp.
Pretty Spot on altough may offend with this, but I don't think Bard is A maybe B. Once you're a little higher level, same as enchanter getting a pet is very risky. Also, their melee damage ain't very great. They got some burn power but not A. Their buffs are amazing, but to carry solo nah, uh. Bash and stun hurt bards alot.
If you focused on playing one character to max level/ max(ish) AA, for the sole purpose of using that character to power level your other toons from 95ish to 120, which class would it be, and what strategy would you use to PLevel your alts with it? I wonder what the charm kiting options look like for a bard at 120?
Necro with highest raid earring. Or a SK in full raid gear. My necro can power level pretty fast since the pet can solo 120 mobs and dots just let me do multiples. Bard would be slower. Mage would be good also. Tank would be good but raid gear would make it work better than group gear so you can tank more mobs. Sk has nice dps and can solo every mission in raid gear 95-120. Best exp 111+ is quests not grinding. You can grind gribbles to 105-110 depending on the exp bonus also and tank works best for that too but again sk has high tank dps unless 100% undead
@hammackj I was always such an alt-aholic, that I never *really* got anything done except farm twink gear, and clickies/Illusions for my bard main. I'm debating on making a comeback to EQ (again, lol) and I'd like to focus on one character to get them maxed for once, then use it to PL my old mains so they can see current group content without having to box it haha 😅
I have a 125 Rogue with 8/8 Spectral Luclinite, and max Luck. 600k hp, 5364 dex. Double Eternal Reverie daggers (Laurion's Song raid daggers), and because of that good gearing, I'm able to Assassinate (molo'ing) just fine in TImorous (which is a Tier1 Laurion song). He's able to do this with 68% slow poison, the crazy 10mill assassinates going off and his stun. I save the stun for when I'm getting hit hard. I don't die. So Rogue molo is great, and in a group, he's awesome, super high dps. Rogue is S tier as well. I haven't seen the rest of your rankings yet, only 1:43 into your video, but my Main (the Necro) BETTER be S tier as well. That's the more powerful class in the game and never needs a merc.
With group gear can your rogue do the same? Thanks for the info about raid geared, this video is kinda old and i should update it. Necro was the only S+ if I recall, I don't think anything beats a necro. Mages/beast are close but Necro is just to good =)
Thank you for bringing the Druid deficiency to light. I got so frustrated with the lack of efficient mana regeneration that I gave up last year. The only useful thing they bring to a raid is debuffing. I really believe darkpaw do not care for either Wizards and Druids.
I've left this comment several times already but Paladin and Ranger is an amazing combo. The enchanter is a good choice. I find crowd control difficult to manage with the bard. The ranger off tanks very well
Do you have a video about group composition and fitting solo players in it. Im thinking about playing this game after 20 years lol and want to play a character i can solo with when needed but built to be slotted in most groups.
@hammackj I've decided to start with live. Just to get used to the game and then if I like it. I'll move to a TLP server. Preferably at the start if a new one.
Can a Bard tank damage while healer merc heal past level 100? I would think they'd get wrecked. Not sure how to solo it unless kitting but it would take 20 mins to kill a mob lol
Not sure what the charms are like at that level (just play Progression these days) but charm kiting once you get to the second spell in the series is usually pretty powerful. Charm a critter let it get hammered down to a hair of it's health, break charm then deal the killing damage for the full exp. Need the Goblin Gazhugi Ring (any invis will break charm and the Goblin ring is instant) but pretty reliable exp that way.
@@TheGlyrion You dont need a vid, all u need is a grp geared 120 bard with not even half way maxed NoS grp gear and go molo some stuff...Bard is a plate class with slow etc, best puller in the game so always get singles etc etc.....
How does a Mage not make S tier? Stopped at 105 with level cap with my Mage but the Mage DPS was arguably top 1 or 2 at the time Their pets are amazing tanks as well . I feel they can solo tougher mobs faster than Necro.
I made this in TOL I think it was and use my 120 necro and mage as the tests I did. The necro was unstoppable. Mages are strong and maybe I’ll do some solo tests with my 125 mage vs 125 necro. I haven’t soloed a character in a good while at high end. For me it also boiled down to the kit each class gets. Necro has so much utility that makes then the solo kings from classic to current. Mages have pets/nukes and group utility. Boxing mage is s++++ and necro is f. Again it’s just my opinion from 2-3 years ago ;)
Thanks for the reply. I enjoyed the list and comments. Been out for 5 yrs and this makes me want back in. lol. Love my Mage of course and had a 98 Necro too I enjoyed. BLs are crazy powerful as well Imo
The main thing wrong with what he said was the shaman was a better healer than a cleric. I will most definitely have to disagree on that. Yes in an undead zone a cleric can solo well. But the necro is the best Solo class.
This isn't really a solo tier list =) You talk about the group game a lot and place classes based on their group performance. I think you should do two more of these videos! One based on group play and one truly based on solo play. There are also two aspects to solo/molo play. 1) soloing for xp per hour and 2) soloing for progression. If you did this based on xp per hour, the list would be way way different.
Fair enough, I will do updates to this in the future with more detailed data. This was just mostly a fun video to make to see the reaction. Everyone will rank everything different. I have every class at 120 except for Wizard / Ranger / Paladin, I don't think I am missing any other. None of the classes could do what I can do with my Necro
@@hammackj That'd be awesome! Your videos are always fun to watch! I'd love to see a bard video. It'd be cool to see some of the stuff you can do solo. Beyond charm stuff, I've always felt my bard wasn't a great soloer. But you rank them high and I know it's a complicated class, so I'm definitely not getting everything out of it!
The bard heroic 100 and a bard level 95 setup guide are on the way in the next few weeks. If I had gear on my 120 bard still id run them around and do some stuff.
I like your list a lot. I would personally rank Ranger A tier though. With those bow AA's they can snare kite mobs all day with little trouble. They have fantastic bow dps damage.
Ranger is S my friend. Yea 15min snare, we can tank, and with headshot locations 2 to 4 shots will kill. At 120 I was doing 15mil damage headshots pushing 200aa an hour on my own and in a group we would pump upwards to 500 making heavy money for people wanting more aa.
Have to partly disagree with the druid. I have a druid, solo all the time (made it to 47th level so far without grouping once). Yes, it's hard to keep the mana up, and you have to rest often, but with a bit of work you can solo all day long. I even go without a merc, just because it's easier to not manage a merc (In my opinion anyway). Perhaps when I get up to needing to do raids, I might maybe have to group, but so far I am solo all the way.
@@hammackj Indeed, you are correct, no class should have mana problems under 85. However, with that said, what you describe is not solo'ing, its multi-boxing. Solo'ing is playing with just 1 character at a time, and if you did rankings based on that, this video would have been quite different.
solid ranking list , having an alt army of all but a war i would make 2 changes. move chanter up a tier while not as good as a shammy they are better than monk / zerker ... honestly zerker might need to go down a tier even with rogue both are pure melee dps with almost no utility.... second change move Mage up to S tier almost nothing in the game a mage cant solo , mages doing less dps than everyone ?? those mages dont know how to mage then 5 mages in my guild 4 of the are always in the top 5 spot's ...... only Necros when they show up push them out, .............................look on any ( im just going to solo what class should i play ? forum post ) the answers are always SK , necro , Mage ....... and some times Bst
I put bst / mage / etc in A because they just don’t have the extra stuff that necro and sk have. Hell a sk with raid gear can solo some group missions. I just value necro soloing more than others. My mage is strong but I can do more with my necro. I mostly did this video for fun, but I’ll update it sometime with quantitative reasons.
You underestimate the cleric class. They can solo undead very well do to undead dots and root. They are also hands down the best healer and rezzer. After lvl 39 they are the only healer you should want in a group thanks to complete heal.
My best in slot 75 pally is 40% less dps than my equally geared 75 sk. I could burn mana on the SK to push that gap quite a bit further. Paladin needs some dps love across all eras. SKs are fun, but I can never get into them as it feels like such a basic b**ch class. It's just too easy =)
My wizzy has never had a mage out-damage him, unless they were higher level than him....mage + pet, sometimes. This is supposedly a solo ranking, pets not included. Wizzy should have been higher....mage lower. I've never had trouble soloing with my cleric either. The summoned hammer procs like crazy.....both "B" tier. (Cleric got to 73 before I heroed him to 85 for free. Wizzy 52, neither raid equipped.)
Solo would include pets. That is apart of the class and all pet classes can out solo all the non pet classes by far. How does your wizard fare solo at 120 against named?
@@hammackj He is 52, as previously stated....so a mob 68 levels higher?? It is fine to use pets while soloing, my BL does that....but the wording you used in the video precluded pet damage. As for how he faired against a 52 mage with a pet at level 50?? We both attacked 10 blue con mobs. I got 10 blips of xp, he got zip. The game says I out damaged him and pet....yes it was a "race". It is relatively easy to snare, root, and nuke. I usually stay with even cons and lower....I don't enjoy pushing things.
Wizards are red-headed step children at all levels in EQ. People want them for ports, but beyond that and AOE power leveling, they don't exist, and it's a long wait to be wanted in Luclin from server start. When a new TLP drops a wizard can't even use their lvl 50 spells on raid mobs. They just get auto resisted.
The ones I raided with on TLP were always near top DPS. I understand what you mean tho. For the last few years Wizards have been a super joke as lowest DPS but if I understand in LS they are on top. I am leveling one at the moment so I will know soon ;)
Player for years and went off long ago. Had 4 Accounts and that was very much fun. Mage enchanter wiz and cleric was awesome. I could always evakuate and the cleric kept the mage PET up. Chanter for the mana Thing and haste and crowd control. Eq was never solo able.
Always been soloable...Just harder and most people can't do it. It's not efficient as say a group of 6 or boxing but possible. Hell I soloed with a cleric in classic due to scheduling issues...
Necros definitely a strong solo class. But its situational. A mage can solo mobs that summon. Not so much on a necro, either kite or root rott. The 3 pet classes are definitely the top solo picks.
SK/Necro best solo classes. SK not as strong, but way more user friendly. You have to really really know what you're doing with a necro, but if you do...... The potential is off the scale.
No class can solo the endgame of EQ1, period. Sure you can solo (with a merc) up to a point, but you will never solo the endgame. This is why most people 2-5 box, which is a royal pain. PS: P99 sucks
My necro can solo without a merc 1-125. The probelm with pure solo No merc is it’s terrible. Even with a merc it’s terrible. Duo is better but 6 box is even better. Personally it’s not worth my time to play less than 6 characters. Best would be all support out of group with all dps in group so 8boxish. But that’s a lot of worth without software
@@hammackjyeah.. but then you're not really playing them are you? =) I've dabbled in that, in the end it just felt like I was playing a mobile auto-scroller and I had no attachment to the chars. It was too easy. Or if you manually 6box it feels like more work than my actual job does. I think 3+3merc is the sweet spot of what you can do and how much effort it takes.
At high level you won't be soloing anything with any class, you need to box or group... (Been playing EQ since 1999). Duo with Mage + Enchanter works but is still hard... PS: P99 blows
@@neilcarlson72 not that it matters to me I was number one sk on my server but I quit...the game is too easy designed for old decrepetng hackers...... raids are designed for 90 year old men to run scripts on macroquest 90% of the player base are afk botting or in underfoot ghost killing its a trash game they are just milking people for microtransactions and recycling the same mobs and raids for last 20 years
Enchanter is a powerhouse if you know how to play it Mezmar of Xegony is/was a beast he could solo tank and kill reds and yellows as an enchanter using runes and self buffs back when I was guilded with him at 105 - 110 the guy was unstoppable it was amazing to watch I was a good SK and he could do things that I could not dream of doing with ease
Ill have to revisit the listing, I didn't have the same experience with my 120 enchanter but I am leveling a new one to get the feel more. I power leveled my other to 120 so I missed out on some clear lessons that I could have used for this listing.
Ranger with headshot in a place that you can HS is S class..... Wizards if you area effect kite with run speed can grab groups of mobs all you need is space.
@hammackj head shot was nerfed in the rangers snare spells break easier. But you can load up 3 snare spells. Plus an AA snare to aoe snare. Wizards can still aoe just not 30 mobs at a time like back on old EQ. Think it's 8 or 10 they are really effective against.
@hammackj use snares on rangers. They have atleast 3 that snare and temp root in place. Plus rangers get root. When I solo on ranger. I don't like the aoe stuff not confident enough to try it lol. But you can keep resnaring the same mob you are trying to headshot. Then root it as well if need be. Gives time for that first snare to come back up normally. Then rinse and repeat. Until mob is dead. Endless quiver AA is good to have. So you can get an ancient arrow and use that for range
"Rogues would be B-tier, too, if it wasn't for the positional aspect of their class". That's a strange comment on a video about solo ranks. Yes, rogues are built to reach their maximum DPS from the back and that's critical for group and raid play, but with autogrant AA's, rogue DPS is perfectly satisfactory for solo play from any angle. The real weakness of a rogue for solo is that they're not great at taking hits.
@@hammackj I'll be shocked if you can evade onto a healer merc consistently. Don't skip on poison either way, though. You can stack one utility poison (I normally use slow) and one DPS poison at the same time. Eventually you can get unlimited free DPS poison by pulling it out of your... pants.
Yes always mercs, free pets for all classes. I'm my experience I had an easier time soloing as a tank than as my 120 Rogue or Druid. Also Paladins can solo certain group bosses where as Rog/Dru cannot. Its all subjective though.
@@hammackj I main a Rog/Brd two box, so I'm admittedly biased. I also have never played a pally to end game, so my experience MOLOing with them is limited to HoT and lower. Just felt like every fight took forever. Whether we ever agree or not though (and it IS subjective and dependent on multiple factors), I appreciate the reply. Thanks for keeping the game alive through content. Channels like yours do more to get new players in than anything Daybreak does!
Obviously you did not play enchanter, from start to GoD it is the Best dps and the most important buffer with shamans. + abilities to break camps, duo and soloing (it is one of the 5 best solo class).
@@hammackjWe got a major bump to our DPS post 100, but you're right, it's still not a competent soloing choice. Enchanter is still best in a support role, enhancing the DPS of other classes and doing all those little things that make splitting and pulling in groups easier.
The ADPS druids provide is so valuable for a mage/wizard =) But since this is a solo video, my druid solo as well as my necro just more downtime due to the mana consumption they have to deal with.
Play a cleric man there not what you think even pre don when they get there ward line 71 they get there vow line they one of the best solo guys in the game I swear ! So much fun and dps. Just had to hit ya with that lol.
so i dont know about that high lol currently only up to 80 on mine on mischief i know it gets weaker over time aka they do something to nerf the swarming ability of it.@@hammackj
There is such a huge gap in class power based on a players knowledge of a class. Someone may be an expert Monk but that doesn't mean they could swap to rogue and see the same results. It takes time, research, trial and error to really understand a class. Nobody can be a master of all classes. So any tier list, for EQ1 at least, won't probably be terribly accurate.
@@marshallcierovola376 well there are raidplayers that are in the top parses with all classes today even with boxed toons since there is info avalable on pretty much maxed set ups for all classes today so all they need to do is copy it with the macros, mash keyes and even wich order to use what etc..When you have all that anyone can become really good really fast... When that's said he said many times this is HIS take with his experience with the classes. All i did was point out a specific class that he might want to take a closer look at since he most likely box several rogues in diff grps and settings. I might not have done it in the best diplomatic way but he is not dumb so he obv knows where i went with the comment.
@@MrKveite1 Yeah, there is plenty of info that a person can learn to get good at their class in a short time frame. But in my extensive experience, most (9/10 players) don't bother. Thats why two rogues with the same gear, AA, and aDPS setup can be as much as 50% different DPS. I'm just saying - peoples milage is going vary wildly.
Imo. Paladin should be A teir. Biggest differences i noticed between sk and pally is sk can single pull and the SK epic. Pally epic is trash unfortunately. I have heard pally DPS is a little short of SK but undead pallies own it. Was nice on aten ha ra group mission my pally was tanking with 2 hander while burning boss. Rooting the adds and splashing. Very fun class.
Your words are encouraging. I am leveling up a Paladin and I will be redoing this list in 2024, with more data/examples to back up my claims. Ill be able to compare 125 PAL vs 125 SK much easier then also.
Next expansion is a level cap expansion. They alternate every other year, they added achievements for 125, and spell focus caps for 125. I would be shocked if it doesn't increase the cap and goto 125.
Rogue and cleric at same tier... This has to be a joke. 😀 Rogue is absolutely D tier, simply the worst class to solo with, for rather obvious reasons. Cleric is arguably B tier, close to A tier against undead. Just felt like voicing my disagreement. 😉 Edit: Druid tier C... for groups sure, but isn't this a solo tier list? I'm confused. Did you mean "single box"? That's very different from "solo", which means "all by yourself".
This is based on my opinion and experiences. This was during terror of luclin with level 120 characters. I was able to solo better with my rogue than my cleric. I lowered the druid due to the lack of mana mostly. For them to do damage they blow their load. I’ll give another shot at cleric solo but I plan on a updated 125 version when I get all classes 125 and I’ll provide more evidence.
@@hammackj I see, thanks for the clarification. Some more context in the video might have been useful. And yeah, I'll admit I was also biased by TLP standards due to being in that mindset before Teek launch. :)
@@olivierlabrosse3126yeah same 😂 im like wizard can solo jus fine. soloed to 52 no issues once i could quad kite on p99. n think all melee minus monk is hard to solo till u get gear, where casters u really dont need
Looking to get back into the game after like 15 years of not playing....any recommendations on discord channels or guilds that would he willing to help me get back inyo the loop?? And are there still fresh progression servers starting??
I have a discord with helpful people some of the classes have discords, but other than that I don't follow much else personally. There will be a new TLP in May 2024 and the ruleset will be announced March/April probably. Feel free to ask anything.
When you say solo... you don't mean solo. You mean in a boxing situation? You mean with a merc? Because a druid quad-kiting is an easy solid solo class, and would be A or B tier pretty easy. I realize this was a year ago... but man, it might be time to revisit a list like this and actually make a solo class tier list. And learn to make chapters ;p
Mercs are solo. To me solo is a single character. This video is what 3-4 years old? The target was either 115 or 120. Druids ain’t quad kiting at 120. Druids dot/rot and druid damage spells cost so much mana it’s not enough close to being worth it. I plan on updating this video once I have every class at 125 with max AA so I can give more concrete evidence why some classes are terrible at solo. I have yet to find anything that can solo as well as a necro with its toolkit some are close like shaman but necro trumps them all by a mile. I made this video when I manned a necro. The target was group geared also. Raid gear is completely diff. Raid geared melee can face tank named without any worry.
berserkers are one of the squishiest classes and are terrible at soloing. i dont know what kind of information you got here, but i played a zerker (so far) from GoD to currently Rain of Fear at level 100 through all the expansions and each expansion soloing is absolutely terrible. Easily D tier you definitely need to retake a look at wizards. "their damage isnt high"? are you crazy? they are the highest ST damage there is. Outside of the 70 era where everything is insanely magic resistant of course. Wizards can quad kite, root kill, and mass aoe. There are a few expansions where they aren't that great, but all in all wizard is always a solid choice.
This was for 120 era. TOL/NOS. My 120 zerk could solo about the same as my 120 rogue. Wizards were in a bad place before the LS changes. This video focuses on the 120/125 era of content anything before that doesn't matter to these videos. Keep in mind all these types of videos are subjective and the player behind the class matters more than the class a lot of the times.
@@hammackj if this is for the 120 era how do you forget that beastlords have FD =x and what are you killing at 120 on your zerker? you can't tank any TOL trash, so you just farming frontier mountains with decap?
Pretty sure it was ME. I sold all its gear during NOS when I canceled 20 gold accounts. Honestly I didn't solo my beastlord as much as I wanted before selling her shit off either. Beastlord would be way higher if I remade this video today.
Rogue is dead last at soloing. I would say even F tier. Played a Rogue in current expansion raid content from Luclin to OoW. It is a fun class for groups even for raids.
Thank you for the info, I had trouble soloing with mine at 120 but gear was shit. Chalked it up to bad gear and power leveling it to 120 vs playing it to 120 and not know wtf to do.
Ok for a solo list I feel like you are WAY OFF!!! You talk about mercs, groups, ulitity etc which isnt solo but group classes ability. Druids can solo kill red and yellow mobs SOLO up to 125 (I have done this), yes you cannot do every missions or quest solo but you can get him up to max. Warrior has a TON of utility and is just so damn tanky (plus they hit hard) that even solo they can kill stuff. A geared monk can solo most stuff with some challenge. Mage is S Tier easily, they can solo most group missions easily, they dps, their pets are insane, Paladins, I am levelling one now, and 2 hand paladin is damn good, a powerful A at best Rangers can solo well, and I have levelled one up to max solo with enough ease. I feel like BSt should also be S Tier too, they have amazing pulling, their pets are insane and they are dps machines.
This is from cov/TOL era fairly old and I haven’t made an update to it yet. Yeah bst/mag would be up some. Other classes would change. I consider mercs solo as they just dumb pets. I’ll do an update video when I have all classes at 125 so it can be more accurate but these were fairly good in cov/TOL for rankings
@@hammackj The big change between mercs and solo is this. One, Mercs steal your EXP, using a merc can slow down your EXP gains swiftly. But when I use a ranger or druid or bst (and you could add necro or mage here), solo solo without a merc is pretty solid gains. When you do make a ranking list, I would love to see a dual ranking. Like one set for solo just exp gains (fast/easy way to level/kill), and one for solo "able to do merc/partisan/missions"
After 70 they drop hard and never recover their strength. From classic to omens they are SSS tier but after that nerf town till 85ish but never back to full power due to the way they change charm.
Terrible ratiings. I have so many disagreements I dont know where to begin. For a solo tier list you need to look at a LOT more than dps. You need to consider splitting mobs and handling adds, cc, and handling all the times when the SHTF. Which is often.
Oh goodness. You can tell you haven’t played all the classes. For ACTUAL solo activity, the Beastlord is just king. Hands down. No mercs, no boxing, the Beastlord pet can handle 4-6 normal mobs at a time. No mage pet toys. Self buffs. Can handle named mobs solo no merc. No other class can do that. Prove me wrong.
Self buff only, group gear only you are telling me you can kill 4-6 120ish mobs? With a Beastlord and just a pet no merc? And kill t1 / t2 Night of Shadow named?
So some classes you refer to the specific title (shadowknight, paladin, necro, etc) and others you generalize (rogue, mage, warrior, shaman, druid). Awfully confusing. Botched this one bad dude.
And this guy should keep his mouth shut. Anyone who has played EverQuest for any length of time, can see what certain classes can do without playing them lil
Well, I wouldn't really shut him up. He is correct in the end, but everyone has an opinion based on their experience with every class, whether you yourself have played it or not. So yeah, talk to a well played (class here), and you will have an idea, but if you aren't personally playing that class, it just isn't fair to really grade them vs ones that you do play.
(ToV being the latest exception)
Solo/molo, I'd also drop warrior and cleric down to the bottom tier, for sure.
Yeah I forgot about the FD =\
@H.H. what?? Never heard of this. Do you know the name of it?
@@hammackj Playing Possum and Falsify Death, they get 2
Totally agree! I have been playing for years but never to 120. Certainly 100 level and lower I would agree 100%. TY again.
Nice, I can't wait for 125 =P
Thanks, I'm glad my two ALTs are a shadowknight and necromancer (mainly play solo)
Nice.
Thank you for the post. About how I remember it also. Necros have always been S tier. ;)
Solo = 1 character + merc(optional)
SK is god tier like necro.
I love to pull on enchanters, I did that many years ago. Had a blast.
Loved the info, thanks
I haven't played in a few years but list seems solid. One thing I'd mention about clerics (which was my main) is they're amazing at farming lower tier content and powerleveling. There's something very satisfying about getting DS on you and grabbing 100 mobs to hit you. Good plat, good mats farming
Been playing my 125 cleric more and really seeing the power. Def will have updated rankings once I finish all the classes to 125.
I plan on rolling a wizard soon to see how it fairs. Never played the class past 60. So I just guessed on them.
I've never played one at all. I know they rocked back in the day, when 75 was the cap and Anguish gear was top tier, even in the Darkhollow expansion; but I quit playing shortly thereafter and have no idea what's been done to the class since. 🤷♂️
sounds like user error my dude. maining a wizard on aradune atm in rain of fear, and obliterating the content and dps.
@@abominay ya i got better ovet time, LS buffed wizards a ton (I'm not playing eq though at this time....)
Ack...prolly shouldnt have made a cleric for my first ever character. But i have been looking at SK. This helped 😊❤
Soon a new TLP will start. I highly recommend that for the best experience. You will be able to group easy as a cleric or anything.
This exciting, I am doing a Ranger soon solo so this will be fun to learn.
@@hammackj What level are you planning on starting out at?
as a enchanter going thru the lvls, it should be next to the glass cannon wiz.
THank you for the input.
Do you run 2 healer mercs? Charm? Do you play from the enchanter? I can see that being a strong combo.
Good to see you're still part of the EQ ecosystem
Thank you. Lots to do ;)
Melee classes are more gear dependent for soloing. A raid-geared character will take hits and do more damage, and be much better at soloing. If they're only in group gear, you might move them down a notch compared to the casters.
Yeah with raid gear this would have different results =)
Mercenary I'm very curious how well a Rogue performs. I've watched them so many times fill the role of tank
Druid dps is costly, I either do dps or everything else normally lol
Druids are really good at coming in Number 2. But they also have mana regen on their Skin, on the subject of no mana regen.
The problem is it is not enough mana regen to sustain anything. I will put a video together of my necro and druid duoing and it shows pretty fast.
Excellent content as usual. looking into boxing but for now it's just me and a merc. maybe an SK + Cleric merc? or Necro and cleric merc?
SK + merc is good same with NEC/merc
I've left this comment several times already but Paladin and Ranger is an amazing combo. The enchanter is a good choice. I find crowd control difficult to manage with the bard. The ranger off tanks very well
I had a blast with my Paladin / Ranger duo, really strong. I plan on doing a series with a Ranger trying to tank to 120.
Do you have a video about group composition and fitting solo players in it. Im thinking about playing this game after 20 years lol and want to play a character i can solo with when needed but built to be slotted in most groups.
On live or TLP?
@hammackj looking into the differences now.
A bard can straight tank 120 content with a healer merc so yep they can.
@@MrKveite1 hm i seriously doubt that...guess i'd need a video for that one too :P
@@TheGlyrion You dont need a vid, all u need is a grp geared 120 bard with not even half way maxed NoS grp gear and go molo some stuff...Bard is a plate class with slow etc, best puller in the game so always get singles etc etc.....
Perfect group at least for me. Me Warrior, Enchanter, Monk, Cleric, Druid, Wizard. That was a power house group.
How do you like the druid and wizard combo? Seems like a nice combo
Don’t get me wrong mage is fantastic. Necro just has so much. You will be fine with whatever you pick. Welcome back ;)
Clerics train solo bro. They definitely a b their at l least.
clerics should be B tier imo. They have good dps with the ward line so just hunt undead mobs. Also they have pacify to split spawns and can root.
Interesting points. I plan on a updated video soon to back up some claims
Is this viable 59-120? My experience with ranger is limited atm.
@hammackj yes sir. Ranger 59+ is really when the fun gets started. Under 50 they are D tier.
My rankings are mostly focused at the 120 game. No class on live should have mana problems below 85.
@@hammackj Indeed, you are correct, no class should have mana problems under 85. However, with that said, what you describe is not solo'ing, its multi-boxing. Solo'ing is playing with just 1 character at a time, and if you did rankings based on that, this video would have been quite different.
Level 47 is limited experience, not even half the level cap yet
solid ranking list , having an alt army of all but a war i would make 2 changes. move chanter up a tier while not as good as a shammy they are better than monk / zerker ... honestly zerker might need to go down a tier even with rogue both are pure melee dps with almost no utility.... second change move Mage up to S tier almost nothing in the game a mage cant solo , mages doing less dps than everyone ?? those mages dont know how to mage then 5 mages in my guild 4 of the are always in the top 5 spot's ...... only Necros when they show up push them out, .............................look on any ( im just going to solo what class should i play ? forum post ) the answers are always SK , necro , Mage ....... and some times Bst
I keep contemplating coming back to EQ, lifelong SK. My jaw dropped when you put SK as S tier, can you tell me what the deal is or what has changed?
All around best tank for group content and they have super lifetaps so they cant die. On top of the epic 2.0 which gives more lifetap =P
You underestimate the cleric class. They can solo undead very well do to undead dots and root. They are also hands down the best healer and rezzer. After lvl 39 they are the only healer you should want in a group thanks to complete heal.
TLP sure. I play mostly live.
What are you soloing with a monk?
Honestly not a whole lot.
The slay undead upgrade aat 96 is nice, really boosts my undead damage. You are right they they have way less DPS.
Now do this ranking for classic and each expansion :P
Good idea!
@@hammackj
He is 52, as previously stated....so a mob 68 levels higher??
Rangers fighting non-summoning mobs are easily A-tier. Anything else they drop down to like C lol.
Thank you for the info. I will consider this in the update video
My necro has no problems soloing summoning mobs. 1-120 zero issue with that. :/
SK/Necro best solo classes. SK not as strong, but way more user friendly. You have to really really know what you're doing with a necro, but if you do...... The potential is off the scale.
@@hammackjhow? Pet tank? Actual solo or molo?
also beastlords can snare pull boss
Tell me more please. The only snare I could find on my 88 and 120 beastlords was the pet proc snare. Please enlighten me =)
No class can solo the endgame of EQ1, period.
I've dabbled in that, in the end it just felt like I was playing a mobile auto-scroller and I had no attachment to the chars. It was too easy. Or if you manually 6box it feels like more work than my actual job does. I think 3+3merc is the sweet spot of what you can do and how much effort it takes.
Shamans hit the biggest targets soloing. Necro cant slow but their mana efficiency + dps make them better faster soloers.
I don’t think you play the modern game. Necro can slow and out solo shamans.
i can Solo named NP with my beastlord and even if i run a merk i run DPS merk for faster kills
NoS t1 and t2? Group or Raid gear?
Make an outline, you wander ALL over and babble about uh umm uhh.
Thanks for the feedback.
At high level you won't be soloing anything with any class, you need to box or group... (Been playing EQ since 1999). Duo with Mage + Enchanter works but is still hard...
PS: P99 blows
I hate to break it to you but you can solo to 125 on a lot of classes. Now being efficient that is a whole different story, that's why I box 6.
@@hammackj Hate to break it to you but no, you cannot.
*Laughs in shadowknight*
Yeah I was thinking the same, but I was going to keep quiet. I don't want to piss off an sk.
Bard would be S class if they were either a little tankier, or more dps
Facts.
I agree with it
Thank you
sk can solo every named in group content with no merc
I’d like to see that one.
So can my mage.
@@neilcarlson72 yea but I do it with out cheating
@@neilcarlson72 not that it matters to me I was number one sk on my server but I quit...the game is too easy designed for old decrepetng hackers...... raids are designed for 90 year old men to run scripts on macroquest 90% of the player base are afk botting or in underfoot ghost killing its a trash game they are just milking people for microtransactions and recycling the same mobs and raids for last 20 years
@@LemmingSee I don't cheat. I do not use MQ. What would be the point?
Enchanter is a powerhouse if you know how to play it Mezmar of Xegony is/was a beast he could solo tank and kill reds and yellows as an enchanter using runes and self buffs back when I was guilded with him at 105 - 110 the guy was unstoppable it was amazing to watch I was a good SK and he could do things that I could not dream of doing with ease
Ill have to revisit the listing, I didn't have the same experience with my 120 enchanter but I am leveling a new one to get the feel more. I power leveled my other to 120 so I missed out on some clear lessons that I could have used for this listing.
which enchanter?
Ranger with headshot in a place that you can HS is S class..... Wizards if you area effect kite with run speed can grab groups of mobs all you need is space.
Have you tested this recently? I have heard rumors about this being nerfed
I am planing on doing a rogue solo run soon. My goal is gonna be evading to the healer merc lol
@@hammackj I'll be shocked if you can evade onto a healer merc consistently. Don't skip on poison either way, though. You can stack one utility poison (I normally use slow) and one DPS poison at the same time. Eventually you can get unlimited free DPS poison by pulling it out of your... pants.
I don't know if you were considering Mercs or not, but the idea that Pallys solo better than Rogues and Druids is definitely a stretch imo
Channels like yours do more to get new players in than anything Daybreak does!
is this all based on like.. P99 or PoP or something? Seems off...
Live.
Obviously you did not play enchanter, from start to GoD it is the Best dps and the most important buffer with shamans.
+ abilities to break camps, duo and soloing (it is one of the 5 best solo class).
Enchanter falls off a cliff after 70. Has no baring on a 120 ranking. I have a 120 and multiple 60+ enchanters. 1-70 ain’t even half the game.
I can do TLP 1-60 ranking. Which wouldn’t be the same as this list. ;)
@@hammackjWe got a major bump to our DPS post 100, but you're right, it's still not a competent soloing choice. Enchanter is still best in a support role, enhancing the DPS of other classes and doing all those little things that make splitting and pulling in groups easier.
Rogue and Warrior should be down with wizard in the Z tier
haha, probably.
Druids do everything and excel at nothing. D is for Druid.
Can yo go a little more in detail on the Cleric process? I had no luck soloing with mine at 120 =P
so i dont know about that high lol currently only up to 80 on mine on mischief i know it gets weaker over time aka they do something to nerf the swarming ability of it.@@hammackj
Hmm rogue cant solo lvl 120 content, since when`?????, Are you sure u get max out of your rogue?
@@marshallcierovola376 i think it's more like 99 of 100 but yes.
@@hammackj did info come out that the level is going up to 125?
Next expansion is a level cap expansion. They alternate every other year, they added achievements for 125, and spell focus caps for 125. I would be shocked if it doesn't increase the cap and goto 125.
i am on TLP server 95 is max level i solo kite 6 to 9 mobs at a time with my wizard FYI & maxed out all AAs at this point but must have room to kite
At 95 is that beasts domain or some where else?
@@hammackj i kite in Outdoors City of Bronze
Rogue and cleric at same tier... This has to be a joke. 😀 Rogue is absolutely D tier, simply the worst class to solo with, for rather obvious reasons. Cleric is arguably B tier, close to A tier against undead. Just felt like voicing my disagreement. 😉
Edit: Druid tier C... for groups sure, but isn't this a solo tier list?
Just put everything in C tier and SK in S. That's what you want to do.
I don’t agree with that assessment.
Easily D tier
you definitely need to retake a look at wizards.
@@hammackj if this is for the 120 era how do you forget that beastlords have FD =x
and what are you killing at 120 on your zerker? you can't tank any TOL trash, so you just farming frontier mountains with decap?
I like the list clerics s tier for me and beasts a
Yeah these lists are really subjective I am going to do an update video when all my chars gets 125 and make it more scientific against the same stuff.
@@hammackj yea I think you did great tho
Ok for a solo list I feel like you are WAY OFF!!! You talk about mercs, groups, ulitity etc which isnt solo but group classes ability.
Druids can solo kill red and yellow mobs SOLO up to 125 (I have done this), yes you cannot do every missions or quest solo but you can get him up to max.
Warrior has a TON of utility and is just so damn tanky (plus they hit hard) that even solo they can kill stuff.
A geared monk can solo most stuff with some challenge.
Mage is S Tier easily, they can solo most group missions easily, they dps, their pets are insane,
Paladins, I am levelling one now, and 2 hand paladin is damn good, a powerful A at best
Rangers can solo well, and I have levelled one up to max solo with enough ease.
Noted Thank you for the feedback.
mages are not A tier?
I'd probably move them up to S tier at this point.
Wow Enchanter C tier?
After 70 they drop hard and never recover their strength. From classic to omens they are SSS tier but after that nerf town till 85ish but never back to full power due to the way they change charm.
Yea on wizards just suck you can't even ae kite passed like 60 so single target non summoning mobs unfort
I am loving Wizard the 100 Heroic is strong and they feel strong leveling up. I do not have one at 120 yet tho.
Terrible ratiings. I have so many disagreements I dont know where to begin. For a solo tier list you need to look at a LOT more than dps. You need to consider splitting mobs and handling adds, cc, and handling all the times when the SHTF. Which is often.
What is your ranking? Nothing beats necro solo IMO
Boxing is not solo.
can you timestamp what I said about boxing in this video? its been a few years and I have no idea what I said.
rogue is c? no.....next video lol
Where do you place rogue?
@@hammackj i'd make a F tier and stick rogue under that...i tried making a rogue back in the early 00s and god i hated my life
Oh goodness.
@@hammackj Of course not. You just hurt his ego a bit.
So some classes you refer to the specific title (shadowknight, paladin, necro, etc) and others you generalize (rogue, mage, warrior, shaman, druid). Awfully confusing. Botched this one bad dude.
Sorry you feel that way. I’ll try harder next time.
You should not rank those class you have not played。
Just a list for fun? What would you change?
And this guy should keep his mouth shut. Anyone who has played EverQuest for any length of time, can see what certain classes can do without playing them lil
Well, I wouldn't really shut him up. He is correct in the end, but everyone has an opinion based on their experience with every class, whether you yourself have played it or not.
So yeah, talk to a well played (class here), and you will have an idea, but if you aren't personally playing that class, it just isn't fair to really grade them vs ones that you do play.
