    This video includes a lot of good info that compliments a lot of brake pad change video, as it goes in depth about the wear indicator and shows the difference between the thickness of a new vs. worn out pad. Also touches on checking the pads for unusual wear patterns.

    Hey man thanks for the video. I don't know much about cars but I'm living in my van so I'd better learn. My brakes have been feeling weak lately so I've been worried. I still wanna get the pads replaced cuz the mechanic said they were at 30% like 3000 miles ago.
    Thanks again!!!

    Another good video D2F. Also watched your Brakemotive video from 2014 with the Power Stop brake pads.
    I recently did a complete Power Stop kit with new rotors for all the way around a 2003 Jeep Liberty and am really happy with them. Power Stop really seems to be good stuff. Along with new Monroe struts, shocks and Moog springs, it handles and stops better than it did when new and was a fun project.

    great video. I started having this scarping noise 2 weeks ago from the front left. figured it was the brake indicator, but this video confirms it. Now the question is, do I only replace the front 2, or the back as well.....

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 років тому

      You always replace per axle, so either front two, or rear two. Or all 4 if all 4 brakes are worn.

    • @faraza7902
      @faraza7902 6 років тому

      Appreciate the feedback. I guess another question is, do I have to change the rotors too? I got both brakes and rotors changed on all 4 just 2 years ago. The rotors became fully rusted in a day. I washed the car and guess forgot to drive a bit to dry it off...

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 років тому

      You should change the pads and rotors at the same time.

      I've had the same issue the last two days, front left intermittent scraping but it stops when you apply the brakes. Did you experience this also?

    • @timothyhaug2060
      @timothyhaug2060 5 років тому

      I do all 4 at once so I can keep track of the number of miles on them to know when they are getting close. if your on a budget though, do at least the 2 on the same axle.

    I guess this is why the steering wheel shakes when on the freeway and braking? No noise just yet though. I want to do this myself, just not quite confident just yet.

    • @MapleLeafAce
      @MapleLeafAce 7 років тому +1

      GR8GUY54 your steering wheel should not shake because of the warning tab or brake pads. Wheel shake means the wheel itself is not spinning straight. This could either be poor wheel alignment or a CV or ball joint needs tightening or replacing.

    • @GR8GUY54
      @GR8GUY54 7 років тому

      MapleLeafAce you might be right. When the steering wheel turns too far right or left...small "clicking" sound comes on the goes away as the wheels straightens out.

    QUick question...is it safe to say the squealer will damage the rotor by digging into it?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  Рік тому

      If you continue driving like that, then it will pit the rotor. BUT for any brake pad replacement job, you need to machine the rotor surface or replace it anyways.

    I may have missed this but were these the ebay Brakemotive ceramic brake pads? Wife's odyssey is coming up on 30k miles and I'll need to check them.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  8 років тому

      You are right, these were the Brakemotive pads and I put about 30k miles on them which is very normal for this Nissan Quest as the factory ones only got about 27k. Also this van is very heavy with braking going to the back more which wears the back faster than the front. So on your Ody, should perform as well or better than stock.Good thing with the Brakemotive setup, no rotor warpage, so I don't need to replace it with this service.

    Does the break pad indicator squeak even when not applying the breaks?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  Рік тому

      At the beginning when it reaches the wear indicator, it only squeaks when you apply the brake, but as it wear more, the noise will happen more frequently.

  • @bobl78
    @bobl78 4 роки тому

    how much does the indicator Clip Damage the rotor ? Can you reuse it ?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  4 роки тому +1

      The clip doesn't do a lot of damage initially. But if you leave it scraping several hundred miles, it could scratch the surface of the rotor. If you are changing the pads, you should either replace the rotor or machine the surface.

      Cheap brake pads will sometimes squeal. Did you use high quality pads? I recommend Akebono pads or OEM pads. Another possibility is stuck calipers. Did you lubricate the slide pins? They should be lubricated each time the pads are replaced.

      Did you have pads with anti squeal shims on the rear?
      If not try to use a small amount of copper grease (this is a controversial method some people swear by it and others hate it) but if you have a google you’ll see just a thin amount smeared on the BACK of the bad should do the trick. Don’t get any on the disc or friction material.
      And and a disclaimer don’t do this if you’re not 100% sure what to do never attempt to work on breaks unless your 100% sure how to

      you have to polish the adge of it
      it happens becouse the sides touch the disc and not the middle
      if you don't do anything it will enentually use out by it s self (but this nose is so painful )
