Me too, we had to do this in our cottage in Brittany with a beam but we nicked the edges so it wasn't so sharp on the edges and it looked great. I'm pleased Michael got his way. Hats off to all the Pethericks!

When I reflect on how far you've come in such a short time really. It makes me a bit misty. Coming from a life that seemed unfulfilling and going who knows where to being able to find your passion and exhibit talents that you may not have even known existed before. It's a joy watching you blossom! I'm so very happy for you and your amazing family! I'm quite literally on the edge of my seat in anticipation of your next chapter. 😘😘😘🥰

This was a near perfect episode Michael! The recap at the beginning and the trailer for what's coming up next were perfect bookends. And I cannot express enough how impressive the skills and self-sufficiency in your family are. In an age where people spend mindlessly, it is wonderful to see slow building, slow purchasing and respect for craftmanship.

He always wanted me to be a plumber ! Not a profession for a lady, my Mum used to say. I can solder, fix a tap, fix irrigation and a host of other things thanks to my wonderful Dad. Your Dad is now continuing teaching me the building trade. Thank you so much Mr Petherick. I hope you enjoy a beer or two after a hard days work. Bless you from North Queensland Australia. xxx

So glad you followed your heart and used the oak beam. For our first house 30 years ago we bought an 120 year old farm house. We were
so happy with it because no one had ever done anything to it. ( No remuddling as my husband used to say.) Cabinets and flooring and trim were all original. We stripped off layers of paint and refinished beautiful oak. We lovingly took the time to repair all the horse hair plaster walls, took out the giant octopus coal furnace, added natural gas furnace, reroofed the house and added tons of insulation, tore off a porch and rebuilt it just as it was, rewired the house, repaired old windows to keep the wavy and stained glass. We sold the house 14 years later but when I see the house today I am so happy we helped to take a run down house in much need of repair and turned itto a beautiful home ready for the next generation. I loved that house. Will always be happy with our choice to keep the house as it was. Wish I could be a patron and hope the small amount I donated will help. Hate that they take part of your funds but hopefully it will help to reach your goal.

Cherish your Dad Michael, I miss mine so much. He would have been 100 years old today(25thOct) but he died 30 years ago. He used to do lots of woodwork for me when I had my first house in the 70s.
