The Rusted Scissors (God's Left Hand Devil's Right Hand) Is Absolutely Horrifying

- Kazuo Umezu is one of the pioneers of the horror manga genre and, while this isn't quite his best work, it does contain likely his best story.
God's Left Hand Devil's Right Hand is rather obscure today, despite it receiving a (terrible) movie adaptation and let's just say this is one that you have to see to believe. It's dark, it's disturbing, it's gory, it's scary and - like most of Umezu's stories, there's nothing else quite like it.

"...walks back into class as if nothing had happened." What in the Tomie?
The Curse of Kazuo Umezu is literally one of the only works of his that has been animated...
Here, for everything you do owl.
It's not much but I hope it helps
Thanks so much mate!
"He'll show you things that'll make your eyes bleed, what do I mean by that? You'll see..." b...but I thought my eyes would bleed, how could I see?
His works are certainly dark and disturbing, but his imagination is fantastical
Hearing a UA-camr reference Graham Masterton of all things wasn't something I ever imagined happening.
“Don’t read Baptism.”

Oh.
Man, I looked this up on your recommendation, and God, was it crazy! I don't know what I was expecting, but it sure wasn't the insanity that followed.
It's not even the nuttiest Umezu manga, amazingly XD
Owl! I'm trying to work. This really jacked me up. REALLY good find man.
Really good manga. Well, the first story anyway.
HOT TAKE I actually like Umezu’s manga “Orochi” better than “Drifting Classroom” as it plays better to his strengths, his themes about the inherent goodness in children and how many times they act more like adults than actual adults, etc…However, “the Rusty Scissors” has my fav monster design by far like even the monsters in “Drifting Classroom” have nothing on the evil spirit attached to the old lady goddamn (great video btw! love that Umezu’s work outside of Drifting Classroom is getting the recognition it deserves!). Reminds me of that one demon with the multiple faces in Devilman 😬😬😬
You are actually one of my 2 favourite content creators. If I want to have a laugh and listen to talk about terrible movies I watch RLM.
But when I'm feeling artistically drained and am in need of inspiration as well as entertainment brought by a very skilled and comfy sounding narrator I watch Frightranker.
Please keep at it. You sir, are awesome.
Have you ever considered doing a video about Suehiro Maruo? He is actually one of my idols. A fair bit controversial though as I'm sure you're aware of.
Wait a second this isn't duolingo
so actually a lot more of Kazuo's work has been adapted recently. Orochi just got a big release and is very good. It also had a translation of volume one released earlier in english. and as well as Cat Eyed boy which was released by Viz
Totally agree with Owl on not killing pets and kids. Especially pets. With the exception of stuff like Cujo and Pet Semetary, it just feels like the pet is the "first" to go for the sake of le spoopy (and honestly, it does the opposite for folks like me. We're reaching for the pit forks and ready to go John Wick on the monster instead). Why not let a pet become part of the horror show instead of just another body count, like Bad Moon, where Thor the dog is actually the protagonist. Honestly, the niche horror from-the-perspective-of-pets is a hidden gem more people need to use. I'm just waiting for Junji Ito to try, seeing how he wrote an entire manga about his cat. Like, imagine Uzumaki from the perspective of a pet cat. (They'd also spare any concern for "bad" or bland characters since it's an animal and you don't necessarily need dialogue lol)
Cujo and pet sematary both had themes about betrayal from someone “innocent”, and innocence in general, as well as inner and outer nature and how something innocent can be corrupted (by a natural virus in Cujo, and by someone else’s hubris in Sematary). Which makes sense why they’d both have a big focus on pets. Theyre both seen as morally, ethically, pure and vulnerable and sinless while also being seen as property and an extension of their owners. It’s not for shock value it was a purposeful choice.
Nice video. When reding this book, the first story was most enjoyable for me, at one point I even started laughing (probably wasn't supposed to) - it was when the tricycle came out. I also enjoyed the last story, even when quite often I didn't understand what was happening. The most frightening was the one about the little girl whose dad was a serial killer.
About the audial jumpscares in older videos - they used be quite loud, but now without them it feels like something is missing. Would it be possible to add at least some different, mildly creepy music during the scary scenes, or even that would be disliked by a lot of people?
That content warning music is just ♥️
You've well convinced me to give it a read!
Spooky Scary Skeletons Crawling out our orafice
Pfft.
You need to cover 14, it is the weirdest manga ever!
14 is my personal favorite of Umezu's
LEGALIZE MARIJUANA
Early Dean Koontz is the best Dean Koontz. 👍
I miss the jump scares, understand why they're gone, but definitely do miss them
I may use some from time to time, but just...so many complaints.
@@frightranker crossing my fingers you keep growing more successful till its viable to have scary and non scary versions!
I have a love hate relationship with this manga. It has really interesting monsters and situations and a lot of good Gore. However, the protagonist and who the story follows is 5 years old and I don't mean kid in the shining or a smart kid. I mean dumber than most other 5 year olds. The more you read of it the more you hope that he gets taken out by a monster.
It's an Umezu thing lol.
When you release Kazuo Umezu is the inspiration of Junji Ito ❤
"Fiddle-dee-dee! That will require a tetanus shot!"
I wanted to see a scene where various objects come out of Izumi's body.
Also, why was she naked?
She was in the hospital, but I can't show you those on UA-cam.
I couldn't finish that manga, the faces are just unsettling to look at...
Well...uhm...Yikes!!
Enjoyed the ride thanx.
very underrated manga
Also cover the manga obitsu
It's fucked up
Ohh man I really need that uncensored bloody version
The fact the ‘you’ve never read’ even exists for one of the most influential horror manga ever made kind of says it all about modern western horror fans.
It's a naming theme XD.
And no, I would not consider this influential at all. Drifting Classroom? Curse? Sure. Kami no hidari te? I don't think so.
Hi Owl, why won’t you read Baptism manga?
The entire seduction arc crosses too many lines for me.
Agree here
Let's go!
Commenting for the algorithm
Dang
The no killing kids in stories thing is stupid. People die and sometimes they die too early, it happens. Not making any horror with kids is such an odd taboo to me, having a child in horror can make for extremely interesting perspectives and outcomes.
