If anyone has seen Erased, I think this could have a fantastic anime adaptation with that general ambiance and energy

I was really holding hope that it was yet another fake out of some kind even after she had been waiting for over an hour. But the exact moment I saw the suitcase I gasped and just, shut down. I read the rest of the story in a trance until seeing the water bottle got me actually crying.

I impulsively decided to stop the video before the reveal with the dog and read from there myself, and oh boy. It’s a great story, but it reallly got to me. How dare you make me experience this. I was constantly going back and forth in my mind on whether this would be fantasy or pure realism. I desperately wanted the mermaid stuff to be true, but as I started putting things together (roughly at the same speed as Nagisa) It was becoming easier and easier to explain away her lies with something more realistic. And the realistic answers were starting to really unsettle me. The foreshadowing and repetition used in this is so well done in a way that I didn’t even notice until attention was brought to it later. And I was doing fine until they showed the water bottle in the final chapter. Instant tears

Adult swim is going to be premiering the Animated series of Uzumaki coming this September and I’m excited! I found the series Uzumaki to be one of my favorites outside of Junji Ito’s short Aragata Fault, just the concept of a ‘spiral’ turned into a omen of horror and destruction was always fascinating to me. Violence Jack is my favorite manga/anime of all time, but I will also admit… parts of it are more of a slog to read rather than actually being horror or disturbing. So it’s definitely dated, but it’s also 50 years old, so that lines up lol. I find it’s not usually edgy for the sake of being edgy (the manga that is; the anime definitely pushes into that line). When it focuses on the things it does right - the cool and unique characters, concepts, storytelling, artwork, and just Jack himself - it’s really, really good! It gets bad when it focuses on the more sensitive subjects, which Nagai is notoriously very poor at handling. I wish it was a bit more well-known, but that makes it more like a hidden gem. Or a hidden piece of… black coal, I guess lol. There’s also a lot of misinformation about Violence Jack, likely because of its relative obscurity, so I really appreciate your in-depth research here! I wanted to rewatch the entire OVA trillogy, I just remembered it since used to have the DVD far back nearly 2 decades ago and found out by Wiki that this series was inspiration for Shin Megami Tensei which is my personal favourite JRPG series including spin offs Crazy to imagine that if it wasn't for this awesome yet F'd up series then Stephen would'nt have made a demon summoning program while looking boss in a wheelchair, demi fiend wouldn't be punching god and lucifer and we wouldn't have Persona tearing up the dance floor lol.
