Great job on detailing your process. Very informative. Nice work.
Thanks JB!
Good Stuff!
Thanks!
I have noticed that you use both the miter gauge and the crosscut sled for square cuts. What makes you choose one over the other for theese cuts?
Great start to a beautiful project! I like that shirt also! ;)
Thanks Donny! Appreciate it
I very much enjoyed the video and your talk through the techniques.... Question please,,,, Shimming both male and female side of the dovetail is what you showed. Have you ever experimented with only the female side and varying the shim width?...Just curious. Thanks
Wouldn't that leave the rear of the dovetail loose? I'd think that would result in slight side to side movement of the unit possibly allowing the glue joint to break.
My question is, why taper the joint to begin with? Did I miss the reasoning in the the video?
Johnny West The answer to your question is IMHO best found in cutting one without a taper... I did many years ago, to find it simply won’t fit! A taper is necessary.
The taper is to make it easier/faster to assemble/disassemble the case for having to test fit the hinges and doors. It's not necessary for sure, and is a personal preference. I mainly did it because I had never cut the tapered dovetail before and wanted to learn the process. It does add time to the build though with setting up the shim and test fitting, but not too bad.
I've not tested cutting the taper other than what I showed on camera. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've never done a sliding dovetail before, so may just give it a go on some scrap. I like the look of this cabinet, so I may make one later.
So many great tips in this video. I learned a few new tricks. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
LOOKS GREAT SEAN
Thanks Dave!
