MC's birth mom was physically abusive towards both of them. MC didn't have a great relationship with her sister, who became reclusive and depressed after awhile, though she loved and cared for her due to their shared circumstances. the sister tried to run away from home, and MC was terrified to lose the one person that understood her pain. so the MC stole her sister's dead mother's keepsake - a pearl necklace - and presumably destroyed and discarded it. all in attempt to stop her. the sister is unable to leave, and takes her own life, something MC did not want nor expect. the game takes place in MC's recurring nightmares, where she tries over and over again to collect the pearls in the necklace to return to her sister. MC is an adult now, but she still feels heavy guilt and shame over her actions. the mark on her hand is the mark of cain, who killed his brother abel.
