I always had a jacktheripper hook knife specifically for cutting lines. Fortunately, after over 1000 jumps I never had to use it. In the paramotoring world u typically retain your glider when u deploy a reserve... this has never made sense to me for the exact reason shown here. A partial inflation can fly into and collapse your reserve. Some say if its inflated at all, leave it out. Other say pull it in after under reserve... i dont get why there isnt a cutaway system for paragliding like there is for skydiving.
Likely due to the massive spinning blade behind your head, which you do not want to bind a wing up in, or you're now in a motor out situation as well as no glider. Add the fact that in a paramotor you aren't going to go into freefall and have the same level of control as an ordinary skydiver. In the moment of cut-away, you'd probably flop straight on to your back due to the weight behind you. Cutting away in paramotoring would be far more dangerous than cutting away in skydiving. The rig is also different, which is important to note. Finally, you should 100% always pull your main glider in the moment your reserve has fully deployed. If the glider is still inflated, then sink your brakes as far as possible and hold it. If you can't reach the brakes, then grab whatever line you can reach and pull it in. Failure to collapse your main after reserve deployment can result in a downplane, which is nearly as bad as having no fabric above your head at all. Look it up for some heart rate increases.
Why aren't hook knives mandatory? I would have a lanyard around my wrist and the hook it self velcrowed to the back of my hand. Always there and difficult to lose.

When was the last time we took it out its pouch with a rig on our back? Most likely never or once or twice when you got it, those hook knives can be tricky to snap out. Give it a try. 4) If you do have have a hook knife, make sure it's one of those nice steel ones. The plastic ones tend to break easily and you wouldn't want that happening when you actually need the bloody thing
