It's really frustrating to see someone come on here and bash a family business that's been around for over 90 years, especially when you're spreading false information. City Fish is all about using fresh fish-always. The only time they might use something that's not fresh is when certain items, like sea bass or shrimp, aren't available. But even then, they maintain high standards.
You told your viewers the fish is frozen, which just isn't true. Spreading lies like that not only hurts a business that's been committed to quality for generations, but it also misleads people who might want to try it for themselves.
About the fish and chips-you need to understand that traditional fish and chips aren't meant to be heavily seasoned. The whole point is to let the freshness of the fish and the crispiness of the batter shine through, with just a bit of salt or vinegar to enhance it. That's what makes it a classic dish.
As for your comment on the lobster roll, you said it tasted "sandy" and needed to be cleaned, but then you complained it had no flavor. Which is it? Do you want flavor or not? Because over-cleaning seafood can strip away its natural taste.
Honestly, your review seems all over the place and doesn't really make sense. It’s important to be fair and accurate, especially when you're talking about a business with such a long-standing reputation for quality.
P.S…Also another thing you got wrong is how long they’ve been in business. 30 years? Did you even do research before you posted this? They’ve been opened 90+ years. 5 generations.
You know what’s interesting? We can ALWAYS tell by one’s comment who has been a long time viewer & commenter of my reviews and then who might be close friends, family or even employee of a business that gets a negative review.
If you read MOST of the comments in this video, THE PEOPLE could actually SEE for themselves exactly what issues I had and then others also had bad experiences here as well.
There exists more negative comments even in Yelp and as MANY who follow me and this series, they KNOW that I go hard for any restaurant that received negative feedback, all to give them good feedback but when food is bland…. It is JUST BLAND and there’s no way around that.
When I said it tastes frozen and NOT FRESH, I was most certainly speaking of the lobster for it didn’t taste like FRESH LOBSTER to me 🤷🏾♂️
Everyone’s experience here WILL NOT be amazing and life as we know it goes on. I am NOT going to sit here and give a Mom & Pop praise only (simply because they are a Mom & Pop) That doesn’t make sense and it’s NOT what we do.
Seemingly this is your only comment after 8 Seasons of this series on my channel and so if you are (Family, Friends and or an Employee) of the company, we understand your frustration with my review BUT AGAIN, read the other comments here and see the trend of MOST of my long standing viewers that do comment on MULTIPLE REVIEWS of mine and can tell where the problems are at with certain foods; feel free to read their responses as well because we DO NOT SPARE ANYONE just because of their “time” in a Business, who they are and or their “Friends, Family or Employees”

That in itself says a lot about your approach. The fact that something might look unappealing to people who lack knowledge or understanding doesn’t mean they’ve actually taken the time to try the food themselves. Your video and whole chanel gives off the impression that your main goal is to find reasons to criticize small businesses and restaurants, likely just for the sake of getting more views.
It's baffling to hear you talk about 'negative feedback' when City Fish is widely recognized as one of the top seafood spots in Connecticut. Yes, they have a few bad reviews, but that's true for any business. The overwhelming number of positive reviews they have far outweighs the negative ones. And to clear up your misinformation, City Fish certainly does not sell frozen lobster. If you had done any proper research, you’d know that.
While you’re entitled to your own opinion, it’s important to back it up with facts. Otherwise, you come across as uninformed, and your entire video reflects that. The fact that you're silent while trying the food speaks volumes, you’re clearly searching for something negative to say, which makes your critique feel disingenuous and forced. Next time, perhaps consider a more balanced approach that actually adds value to the discussion instead of just tearing down a reputable business without proper justification.

Right.. $10-$12 tops, $35 hell nah.. fish is cheap & super easy to cook, just pour your fish fry in a ziplock bag, season it with a little tony's or slap ya mama, throw the fish in & shake it up, fry for a couple minutes each side, done.
If I had paid $50 for that and it tasted like blah, I would be upset, especially when they came in those small boxes.
In Connecticut there should be no reason that the lobster sucks.

If you're still around in Connecticut try Gulf Shrimp on Atwater Street in Plantsville on Fridays and Saturdays they do lobster rolls add fried fish,scallops, shrimp, strips.I will make sure they take care of you.Tell them Russ sent you!

55 dollars is a crime
The fish should've been fried a little harder for a crunch factor and seasoned to perfection with a combination of old bay, lemon, basil, dill, and a hint of smoked paprika.
The fries should've been hefty russet or Idaho potatoe wedges fried with dices of applewood bacon for ultimate flavor.
Lastly, the lobster in the roll should've been lightly steamed with fresh garlic butter (heavy on the garlic) tarragon sauce and sweet vidalia onions. I promise you, those ingredients would have set that entire meal off.

I live in the city of New Haven and knowing you as a foodie in my backyard, I respect the one to give me low on what to spend my hard earned money on within the CT food industry. I relay on your word because spending $50.00 on myself means maybe I had to work 3 hours of a eight hour shift just to think of enjoying 2 entries. Sorry to bust your bubble but you should have seen it when the employee looked and had a generic response to your question. That’s disappointing…I’m a CT native and have visited City Fish Market many times over the years, although it’s been over 10 years since my last visit there…. I hope they consider the suggested improvements and implement some changes… btw, Daym have you tried the lobster rolls at Lobster Tails in Windsor CT ? If not, I suggest you check it out. 😃
Any fried fish meal should come with at least 4 fillets. They gave you 1 and a quarter, what's up with that. Cheapos.

I've never had their cooked food, but I've purchased lobsters and little necks from city fish for many years during the 90's and 2000's. It was always good product. Sad to hear their restaurant side of the business is sucking wind.

As a british ex patriot living in the US, fish and chips are done so wrong here. There is one place in New York City 'A salt and battery' is the only place so far that has done fish and chips the right way.

You're absolutely right Daym. There's a place near me that has been around forever and the community loves it; generations of families have eaten there. But the food is ok at best: you can tell things have been stuck under a heat lamp, or were canned, or bland, etc. Retirement home type food. But the place will likely never make small adjustments to really improve because they're so established in the community.
