I have a few Kimbers and they seem to be hit or miss their quality control. However if you get a good one, hang on to it. Also this is the first time I've ever seen a Kimber with an external extractor. Happy Thanksgiving guys!

Thanks for the look at an interesting Kimber. I own 7 Kimber 1911s - one made in 1999, the others made since 2012. I’ve never shot one with an external extractor, but my Sig and Smith 1911s with external extractors all run just fine. All of my Kimbers are highly reliable, though I did have to break in several. I hope the BERETTA9mmUSA family has (had?) a peaceful and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

I remember back in the early 2000's many cops in my department bought these pistols. Never heard a single complaint about them until around 2009. I was at a point shooting course, an NYPD ESU was using a 1911 Kimber. He kept having issues FTF , FTE and was ridiculed by the instructor for listening to people at the gun shop to not use a Glock buy a Kimber. I own a 2017 Kimber 1911 Target 9mm which is a fine pistol. I compared the Kimber to Ruger, S&W, Remington and Sig. The Kimber had the best fit and finish.

Hey there, hope you are having a good evening Sir. I think you are correct. I have 3 Dan Wesson Commanders now that are exact competition for these alloyed Framed Commanders. My Dan Wesson Vigil Commander and my unfired TCP, and ECP.... I bought them in 2018. Maybe someday I will do a VideoReview on them. I hope you are enjoying Retirement. Good to see the old Kimber Commander with alloy frame 45 featured in this video, although not a true 4.25” commander but that’s how Kimber & Springfield Armory do it, I’ve always liked Kimber’s for their overall beautiful finish & while true they have had some reliability issues on some models at certain times, i also learned that the crappy Kim-Pro magazine that used to come with them was a great part of the problem, i would basically disregard those & use Wilson or Mec-Gar mags & like magic problem solved, they have improved on their mags but i still just run Wilson or Mecs, the newer alloy framed models come with ramped barrels to protect the frame & feed hollow points very well, i think one of their best bang for the buck series they offer is the TLE ( Tactical Law Enforcement) family of pistols that are available in every configuration imaginable for about the $1200 range you get a very well crafted 1911 with all the bells you would want or need, i know for a fact, i own several in different calibers & sizes. I want to get the Rapide model that came out about a year ago & I’m also curious about the new EVO striker fired alloy framed model, hope it’s not a failure like the Solo was a few years ago, anyway thanks again for the video, i always look forward to the notification on my phone when you guys put something out, also nice to see another member of the family that’s into the 1911 platform of firearms & thank God Senior came back to his senses & didn’t give up on 1911’s, Saint JM Browning forgives him. ( lol)

I absolutely loved your comment. A total 10 in my book and filled with honesty from a real Kimber 1911 owner. I wish Kimber the best and I hope they get back to the elevated 1911 they were known to make. If anyone can do it, it’s an American company. My best to you, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃🍽🥳👍🇺🇸

@Beretta9mmUSA, you are absolutely right about the Kimber’s & the fact that they are a great American Company from Yonkers NY. That in itself is crazy & originally they were out of Seattle or maybe Oregon, anyway the fact is they know how to make quality production 1911’s but i think part of happened in the early days of U Tube when Glock ruled & nothing against Glock I own various Glocks & appreciate they were the standard for years, at the time the UT community just didn’t understand the old workhorse 1911 & to a certain extent didn’t give it the reverence it’s due, i think that’s changed & channels like yours have made a difference & changed the perception & the facts of why to this day the 1911 is still the main platform for competition & precision shooting, also don’t forget the CZ platform, that’s The other amazing contribution to the world, me im 1911 all the way, what can i say it’s my passion, thanks.

I look at it truly as more of an ignorant person, who just simply does not know better. It’s not their fault that they are uneducated. It takes guys like me to help them out, and try to show them the way. No I am not trying to offend anyone, it’s just the way I look at things. They do not know any better, and when they get a chance to shoot a high-quality 1911, or even a 2011.... their eyes are wide open in disbelief. I have Cop friends that are the same way. It’s a Glock or it’s not worth owning. I ask if they have fired a Dan Wesson, Les Baer, Wilson Combat or any current 1911...... “no not at all”. I tell them they are missing out Big Time! Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁🍽

Excellent video, guys! I had one of these back in 2005. Great shooter. It came with blacked out sights and after a few years I wanted to put night sights on it. I turned it over to a gunsmith for the work and somehow, he cracked the aluminum frame. He was/is an honorable guy, so he bought me a replacement...and gave me the option to go the HD path, so I did. Still have that pistol. I swapped out grips and other than that...and the night sights, it's stock.

Man, I wanted my Pro Carry II to be a great gun but I had a lemon for sure. Bought it brand new around 2007-2008 or so and had nothing but issues. I put nearly 500 rounds through the gun and had a jam every few mags at the least. I talked to the store I got it at and they also recommended new mags. I got a few Wilson’s and Chip McCormicks but they didn’t help. I called Kimber and they told me that I still needed to break it in and refused to send me a tag to pick it up and look it over. I finally ended up selling it to a friend who I made well aware of the issues I was having. I was so bummed with it as I loved the look and feel of the pistol. At the time a local PD (Tacoma PD) allowed some of their officers to carry that model but they dumped them pretty quick when they ran into issues with them too. I ended up picking up a 5” Springfield Loaded Parkerized 1911 that have been 100% flawless for 500+ rounds. I’m so glad that you guys got one of the good ones.

Thank-you so much for sharing your ownership story. Lots of folks give us crap for not recommending Kimber 1911’s and it is ownership experience like yours that prohibits us from recommending Kimber products. I wish they would get their shit together, and put out a great 1911 for the American public. And if you have an issue with a product they should pay for its return to the company to get it fixed. We called Les Baer out on this in a Public Video and I will call Kimber out on it in this instance to. Take good care of your customers it’s the only way to fly! Our Springfield Armory 1911s have been great so far, and they have fantastic customer service is my understanding thus far. 🥳👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@@BERETTA9mmUSA Thanks so much for the reply. They do seem really hit or miss. I have a friend that has one of the earlier Kimber 5” standard 1911’s that has been 100% reliable however it has one of the worst finishes I have ever seen on a pistol. I nicknamed it “rust bucket” haha. No matter how clean he keeps it he always seems to have rusting issues on the slide. He lives in eastern Oregon too so he’s in a pretty dry climate. Just seems to be pretty hit or miss if you get a good one or not. I don’t think I would buy a new one right now as I hear the quality has not improved and their service is still on par with what I experienced. I appreciate you being honest and not recommending products that you don’t find to be up to snuff.

I dont typically hear people get jazzed about the 2002-2006 era of Kimber production. Pre 2001 was the series 1 era, which is widely considered the best. The troubles, in the minds of many, began with the intro of the series 2 and external extractors. Some worked, many did not. I have a 2008 custom 2 that runs like a top, and I believe recent production has been decent.

BERETTA9mmUSA mine was 7-8 years ago but the kimber was used so i dont know exact date of the gun, i know they went back to traditional extractors now. I also had alot of problems with a desert warrior by kimber as well. I have had good luck with springfields, sig and dan Wesson for 1911s with a DW Vbob being my daily carry...

Beautiful pistol, have two 1911’s, but stay away from new Kimber because of reputation. Recently picked up a cz 2075 RAMI, if you ever get a chance to review one it is a sweet pistol. It was my first cz, and probably will not be my last. It has a 3” barrel but shoots like a 5” barreled pistol, amazing.

I’d stay away from a Taurus 1911 and buy a Springfield Ronin or Mil-Spec. The Defend your Legacy
Mil-Spec Springfield “GI Style” 1911 is around $550... at that price it’s honestly the best entry level 1911 on the market because it has a Forged steel frame. - YB

Considering this or the Desert Eagle 1911 for my first 1911.. any suggestions !?

    • @BERETTA9mmUSA
      @BERETTA9mmUSA  3 роки тому +1

Both seem Excellent to me. Kimber is having some quality control issues with some pistols, but my son and I are having some quality control issues with our Les Baer 1911s and they have an average price of almost $3,000. We worked through our Les Baer issues.
The Kimber is American Made, but the overall quality 1911 has to go to the Desert Eagle 1911. The DE 1911 would also be about $200 less then the Kimber 1911, I think. If you can find both in a large Gun Store and then directly compare them side by side that would be very beneficial too. Good Luck. 🥳👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. Beretta Sr.
