Yes. My twins do this. We use the sleeper for one kid, but the other one can get out of the sleeper. So, we use overalls for him since he hasn't figured those out yet. They smear poop, eat poop, etc. One even tries to eat his actual diaper. Hyper-vigilance is our new way of life. Sending love. Also, we have to shampoo the couches like every other day. We just threw out all of the rest of our rugs. One kid doesn't want a diaper on at all and pees on a lot of stuff. It is overwhelming at times, but we are 2 weeks in to overalls, and we don't have to put his diaper on every 30 seconds (more than that, actually.) Thanks for sharing.

Oh my goodness YES. I relate on SO MANY LEVELS!!! Lol thanks for sharing. We do have one pair of overalls...also a good idea, I think the only reason I haven’t done more of them so far is cuz they’re more expensive. But def adding it to the list. And the eating thing: ugh yes. 😂😩😬

@@ellisfamlifeautistictwins5449 We just check at goodwill for overalls. They are so expensive.

You are not alone! I have a granddaughter from 23 months and since about a month now, she does play with her poop pretty often. We stay calm and let her know, not to do it, clean her and let her help to clean as well. She is a very lively child and sees it as fun. You can offer them playdo and let them play with mud and foam. But I don't really have THE solution either. Remember also that in this age the left side of the brain takes over alot, so I guess it's just a phase. Stay strong, you'll get there. We are from Germany.

My son is 8.5 and is going through another round of poop smearing. A couple years ago we finally figured out that when he regresses, he poop smears. Regression: poop smearing. Stabilized: will engage the alphabet. Thriving: engages foreign languages. He typically regresses because he doesn't like a caretaker/school persons/therapist. I can fire a therapist... but I can't change the people at school.
Things we've done to prevent the smearing: duct taping diapers on at night. Putting his sleeper PJs on backwards with the feet cut off (and a V notch at the neck) so he can't unzip the PJs. Not letting him go to bed until he poops. Sadly none of those tricks work now. It's like having a 2 year old non-stop... except that he gets bigger and bigger every year. I'm almost tempted to try doing enemas to control when he poops. It might be a good way to sneak in nutritional supplements that I can't get him to take orally. Still doing my research on that one, will probably decide if it's a good idea or not in a couple of years. :P

My son hasn’t been diagnosed, but I came to watch to find out what to do, he’s 3 he’s been doing the exact same thing for a long time! (2 years) it doesn’t matter what we do he figures it out! I’m struggling! This has been a minute since u posted this! Any updates? Did u figure it out? Does it end? I’m just trying to do this.. as a mom I beat myself up over this I feel like a crap mom that I cannot get this under control!

The only thing that worked for us, was just time. Also, making him clean it helped him some. He got bored of cleaning and realized what he needed to do to stop having to clean.

My kiddo did that forever, and that smell just hangs around for DAAAAAAAYYYYYSSSSS! My kiddo loved to smear it because he liked warm and squishy things. He likes the texture. You know how when you pass the squishy toys in the toy aisle and you just have to squish it? That sensation is what he was after.

    • @ellisfamlifeautistictwins5449

Hahahahaha chuckle and snort laugh-“warm and squishy” !!! 😂🤣💩 and yes that is an excellent way to describe it-makes perfect sense!!

What do they do when at school? Are they not having this issue at school?

  • @kwhite2505
    @kwhite2505 5 років тому +3

My son doesn't have this issue -- but we still have minor "poop" issues. My son doesn't like to "wipe" for fear it will get on his fingers. If he does get some on his fingers/hand he will immediately wipe it on the wall next to the toilet -- but it is only a small amount and rare because he has a fear of getting it on his fingers. Our "poop" issue is the not wiping himself completely for fear of getting it on his fingers and thus we deal with "poop" streaks in his underwear because he doesn't wipe very well. One thing we did was install a bidet onto our toilet (purchased at Amazon) so he simply turns a dial and his bottom is sprayed off. This has greatly reduced the streak problems. We also figured out that supplementing Nick with magnesium helps his stomach issues and keeps him regular. Anyway, I did go to an autism seminar years ago where the speaker talked about a child with autism who smeared that enjoyed strong smells so they tried getting some really stinky cheese and putting it in a sealed jar and allowing the child to smell the cheese whenever he had this sensory need. If the child enjoys feeling the consistency of the poop maybe having play-doh, slime, bubbles available to meet this need? My son absolutely HATED the feel of bubbles and shaving cream on his hands and when he was in pre-school they worked and worked on getting him to spread bubbles and shaving cream on a mat. When he graduated from pre-school they gave me a picture of him covered in shaving cream. Also I highly recommend "It's Potty Time" an old VHS tape from Duke University. I bet if you do a google search you may even find it free on the internet -- it's a pretty old tape, but it has helped potty train a lot of kids on and off the spectrum. Beware the song "I'm a Super Duper Pooper" will get stuck in your head!!!! Wishing you the best! Karen

Ok these are GREAT-all of them!!!
I never thought about it being a sensory seeking thing... sigh. Believe it or not I haven’t been able to move past my own irritation about it lol. But of course it’s sensory seeking like everything else...👍🏻
So I’m gonna have to more pay attention but I’m thinking at first glance/thought, it’s a texture thing for the twins, like what Jill was saying with warm and squishy (lol). So maybe i could go the route of shaving cream or something similar.
Also it’s funny you mention bidets...there is actually one in our house already!!!!! Maybe I need to start trying the boys in that bathroom...imma think on that one.
I’m excited to tell you too: I asked their teacher could they start focusing a bit more on going potty at school and she said yes. Yay! Their classroom is so focused on ABA and speech that they don’t do as many “life” skills as Linda used to do. So she is modifying some for us. An aside: I’m very thankful we are blessed to be in a school system that is trying very hard to help the boys. I’ve heard so much worse that I feel God put us in the right place for the boys to get the therapies they need.
Anyway, lol thanks for a great reply! I love love your stories!👍🏻❤️🤓

I made cotton suits for my grandson. Very simple . They zipped up the back and bias binding round neck and arms so can't be ripped. I fitted them under knees. This stopped.the behaviour. But I made them every 3 months or so as he grew. But this changed my daughter's family.life.

My white child looked like a black child this morning....he smeared nearly his whole poop on himself and coated the TV. Followed my a massive tantrum and him thrashing in the bath like a crocodile whilst I washed him. He has coated his whole bedroom and carpet multiple times... I find footless indies back to front helps....only way to keep his clothes on at some points of times. This definitely seems like fazes. I was so mad this morning so I'm glad I saw this. I feel a little less alone now. All the way from New zealand

Oh, we have been through this! Our son is 5 and goes through stages of this! We find it on the walls, in the carpet, and anywhere he can get a moment alone. I can’t give you any genius ideas because, we are still there too!! I will say I have a 19 and 23 year old as well. They are beautiful brothers too!

I have watched a lot if these videos as I am new bonus parent to my partners 8 year old autistic daughter. She doesn't undress but pulls her arms inside of every onesie. Does anyone know of a pj or clothes she can't pull her arms inside? I'm going to try something this weekend sewing a drawstring, velcro or something where the underarm is located. We cleaned her 5 times yesterday because she is very talented at sucking in her stomach to get under her belt after pulling her arms inside of her clothes. Any suggestions would be great!.

I regressed. Im living in very abusive organisation's that are banning all my activities as I weigh 33kg. The thing that tipped the balance was when staff refused to print of photo of someone I was very close to. I could technically do two minutes of swimming im not asking for much. Staff comment on food choices despite this reducing appetite very distresse and in pain using toilet because of very low weight at 5 foot 1meds not collected not allowed see public health nurse urinating in cups and throwing on the floor and putting poop on wall. I've no access to laundry facilities as doors are too heavy unablevto gain weight due to bad nerves.

Have you tried distracting them with smearing shaving cream or soap instead? Maybe it's a texture stim from the twins so maybe having soap or shaving cream nearby they can smear that instead of poop.

Yes!! Was just above seeing Jill and Karen’s comments about the same thing. I think the shaving cream excellent idea. Or you know what now that I’m thinking about it... maybe I’ll do cool whip or something else edible and tasty cuz they still taste sensory seek a LOT. 👍🏻😊

Oh yes, I follow them... I’ve left comments for them before, but I think their channel is so much bigger, they’ve never replied. But that’s ok... I actually watched their potty video, at least one of them... it was good, but their child was a lot older so I wonder if that helped. Thank you for the suggestion! I feel like they are doing some wonderful things on their channel and I’ve learned a good bit by watching them. I love how kind they are to each other. And so patient with their daughter. Very inspirational ❤️❤️🤩
