For slower moving shots, I usually just hold alt and drag a copy of the clip above the one that needs to be corrected. I shift the top clip over by ONE frame. Change the blend mode to Screen and drop the opacity by 50%. This doesn't work for fast clips as that one frame is enough to cause some noticeable unwanted motion blur.
Great, thank you! And yes, it never hurts to have another tool in the toolbox. Let's see that next tutorial!!! Or, better yet, can you arrange a ban on cheap LED lights at venues?!
Thanks Matt!! Never thought about applying this technique to video, would use it quite often on photos. Would love to see more videos on removing flickering🤞
Thanks Matt. I will remember this for next time I run across this! I usually run into faster flicker due to LED lights and shutter settings. If you want to upload a tutorial for that one I will watch lol
Hey, this is off topic but what is the most storage you used for a wedding and whats the average amount? And also im curious what bitrate do you shoot and/or how many hours of footage you end up with? Thanks Edit: i would also like to hear from the rest of you filmmakers :)
I’ve found that if I change from NTSC TO PAL or vice versa the lines disappear. Also play around with frame rate. I’d rather shoot 25fps than 50fps if it removes the lines all together
Artificial light beaming right down through the barrel of the lens is going to be pretty hard to remove such banding in this case, since artificial light never plays well with a digital sensor. Perhaps this shot should have been framed differently? But that is beside the point; if a fix is needed after the fact, you did show a way through this problem!
Why not do a quick test and playback? We always shoot a test clip when doing slow motion. Here’s a quick tip. Shoot a white card, or something uniform. Pull up the waveform in a monitor, most 5” have them. Record. Playback. If you see a pulse, go into the synchro scan and adjust your shutter.
This is really weird and a senseless extra step, but every other time stuff like this doesn't work....I have to nest the clip, and then it works, but when I copy and paste it to other normal clips that are not nested....then it works fine.......

Thanks, Matt. And yes to seeing how you edit out faster flickers.

I do this too and it works well and also works for quickly flickering lights!
We are editing wedding right now with huge fast flickering during the groom preparesю So, yes, we want to see that video as soon as posible)))
I remember messaging you about this last year. Clutch. Thanks Matt
thanks Matt...very helpful...and yes I would love to see more tutorials on flicker....I was shooting at a venue and got flicker even at 24!
Great tutorial! Yes, please do one for removing flicker on 24FPS :)
Definitely interested in seeing more flicker removal videos
I love the way you walk through tutorials: clear and concise!
Thanks! It works really fine. I'd like to see more tutorials on flicker removal, for sure.
Matt! Could use your thoughts on the M1 Macbook Pro/video editor buyer's guide. Whatchu got??
Planning on making one! :)
You saved my video. W man
Pleaseeeee cover more flicker videos!! They are the death of meeeeee!!

I wish you would make a video like this for Final Cut or Davinci. I walked away from Adobe eight years ago and never looked back.
Looking forward to the deflickering-video!
Hola Matt, saludos desde Tijuana.
I vote for a faster flicker one as well!
Thank you. Going to give it a try. Have you tried this with longer footage versus a small clip being shown quickly? Thank you.
Great solution, but what about a sequence with over 50 mins TRT? How will this work for that long a sequence?
Hi thank u all the way from Maldives. Speaking of the bands any tips advise on how crushed blacks can be fixed in PrPro. Thaaanks.

Will this preset work on Final Cut?
People still haven’t left Premiere for Davinci? 🤔😜
Great video for them ;)
How to prevent this because I have the correct 180 shutter and still does this on a7siii 120fps is the only time it happens with certain lights
.. and/or shooting to avoid the rolling bands?

Do you have a video that explains why those rolling bands happen?
Watch my shutter speed explained video :)

Seems easier to just shoot on the Red Komodo🤷🏻♂️
😂😂😂 you’re totally right
People still use Premier?
This isn't working. Following it exactly and it is ignoring the selected area and keeps adjusting the entire clip outside of the selected area too.
