Only suggestion is that sutures (at least for dogs) should be neon green or some other color (not typically found in nature) that is easy to see amidst all the fur regrowth.
Doing any procedure in an appropriately well thought out manner decreases risks of any thing going wrong. There can however be several “correct” ways of performing any procedure. If your stitches have been removed completely, the scar has not gaped open, and you have not developed an infection, then the suture removal procedure was a success. Yes, often we do advise removing alternate sutures, then applying paper tape strips transversely across the suture line to support the incision, and then removing the rest of the sutures (either on the same day, or the next day), again using paper tape strips to support the incision (for one week). I advise this as sutured incisions and wounds are at their weakest, and thus susceptible to the wound gaping open, immediately after sutures have been removed.
My doctor did NOT do this, nor use gloves. He’s used small scissors across my wound to remove stitches that were not curved. I’m very concerned. Did he do this correctly?
Can i do this at home myself? I had an ingrown toenail surgery and have one thread over surgery site, i dont want to go to nurses because they treated my wound very roughly, opening the surgery wound when cleaning the site.
I sliced my hand carving leftover Thanksgiving turkey last year and my stitches scabbed over and I plucked them out with tweezers, bc I just turned the age I lost insurance from my parents thanks USA!!!!
03:41 yeah, that blade pressing against the skin is just going to cut the skin around the hole of the suture... not fun. clearly you never had a suture done to you otherwise you would not do it like that.
Thank you for your pertinent, although somewhat misinformed, comment. I understand your concerns, but the no12 blade is designed specifically for suture removal. Like any surgical instrument the blade needs of course to be used by someone who knows what they are doing, otherwise injury can certainly result. To use the no12 blade safely it needs to be held perpendicular to the suture but parallel to the skin. If not adept at using a blade one should use a pair of suture removal scissors, which has a tip with a similar curved tip like a no12 blade. I do hope this clarifies and allays any anxiety. I agree because he's pulling and yanking. I have stitches in my eyebrow, I don't want to yank and pull. I'd rather use the small scissors even if it's supposed to be pain free I don't want jerking and pulling like that 😳
Umm that is not the correct way to remove the stiches actually. You are supposed to cut at the opposite side of the knot but then pull it out from the knot side.
It may hurt a little, but usually, if done gently, just discomfort from a “pulling” sensation as the stitches are removed. I inform patients of this before removing the stitches, so that know what to expect and deal with the procedure better. But, because they of the discomfort, small children may not be able to tolerate stitch removal whilst awake, and may on occasion need this doing under general anaesthetic, especially if there are quite a few stitches to be removed or in a particularly sensitive area.

To use sterilised gloves is better. Bt that some dr just wash their hands and use anti septic liquid on their hands
