Another common pregnancy-related injury is called trigger finger, where the finger bends down and gets stuck as it’s coming back up. It gets stuck because it moves through a pulley at the base of your finger, and as the tendon glides underneath that pulley it then gets caught as it comes back through, and the patient can’t straighten the finger right the way out. This commonly happens in pregnancy because of inflammation and swelling, and one of the best ways to treat it is using a small splint. So this splint still allows you full range of motion, but it protects the trigger and stops it from getting more inflamed.
