I wasn’t measured for the splint and it’s too big. I have to use lots of tape to keep it on. Nor did they use any gauze or show me how I should wash my finger. None of it is easy when you live alone and the injury is on the dominant hand. I’m so grateful for these UA-cam videos. Off to Amazon to find a smaller splint.

minor injuries didn't have any splints when I went in for mine so used a full finger one from the pharmacy until my eBay order Stack splint arrived today. Not sure when I'll get seen for referral but Google and UA-cam to the rescue in the meantime!

Thanks so much for the details. I was doing my splint wrong- immobilizing the whole finger. I’m going to buy that proper splint right now

Thank you for this. I'm on day 3 of my mallet splint and have difficulty keeping the splint on. The nurse taped it below my middle knuckle which was comfortable, but I've now been told the middle knuckle needs to be able to bend. But I'm on my own, so can't really cut the splint. I've also been given tube gauze but can't put it on my finger without my finger bending.

In mid may 2017 I injured the tendon of my hand little finger. The distal phalanx wouldn't straighten. I got a Stack splints and kept it for 6 weeks without removing it. After that time, on 6th July, I removed it. The little finger was straight for about a few days, but then it would bent at about 15 - 20 degrees. I was disheartened. The doctor said it would stay like this and there's nothing we can do. I couldn't agree with this. Instead of throwing out the Stack splints, after about a week from removing it, I put it again for another 5 weeks and I underlaid a little piece of fabric / cloth / cardboard paper in the Stack orthesis right under the top part of my little finger (distal phalanx) just to keep it a little higher than normal. And then in mid August I couldn't believe it. It worked. My little finger was straight again and has remained like this till now - two months after removing the Stack orthesis. I must say that I prayed to God and some saints every day to help me recover. My prayers were heard. It was a miracle! Therefore, do not abandon hope and keep the faith.

I did not get proper care on my diagnosed mallet finger. In this area that I live, there is no educated healthcare even if they are orthopedic surgeons. I went to three different doctors and didn’t get proper care about what to do and why to do it. I ended up treating myself with this video. I bought my own splints cheap from Temu. I trimmed them, taped them and switched them out. My custom splint made by a therapist is heavy 4mm plastic and to me it’s ridiculous. I wear it at night.

What an informative tutorial. I'm on day 1 of my splint and exact same splint. Our NHS nurse didn't use/inform to use Gauze tape and I'll be off to Boots to see if they have any!

Should it be put after swelling on finger subsides or right after injury?
