  • Mountain Biking at Kettle Moraine in Southern Wisconsin on the trails that started it all. These are the very first trails that I EVER rode. Before I even knew what mountain biking was. Take a lap with Ben and I on the blue loop and orange loop of the John Muir trail system as I throw us back to 4 years ago. Tell us your thoughts and let us know where to ride next in the comments below!

      Thanks, Matt! Sometimes while editing, I'll question myself because I compliment trails so regularly - but it's just my passion for mtb breaking through. I simply love riding and nearly any trail in the world has something unique and positive to highlight! I'm sure that you can relate!

    Use to ride full on rigid bikes back in the early nineties. Then we got smart.

    Last summer was my first time ever mountain biking. This exact same trail. This summer I spent shredding Colorado, and it’s going to be so tough going back to the Wisconsin trials.

    • @GlobalTrailGuide

      Fully understand that! But WI still has plenty of trails worth appreciating, even the XC stuff. If you’re unfamiliar and looking for the real good stuff, be sure to check out Little Switz bike park In Slinger plus Cam Rock and Quarry Ridge near Madison

      @@GlobalTrailGuide Hey so I test rode some MTBs yesterday (good pricing in off-season) and I can't decide between 27.5 and a 29er. I'm 5'4" and new to the sport. Have you an opinion on this? Thanks so much!

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  2 роки тому

      @@bjkbaum it’s really all personal opinion, but the majority of riders now feel 29 is best. Very few are rolling on 27.5 anymore. I agree, especially for XC style terrain. Faster rolling and better for maintaining momentum. But as you’re learning the sport, it’s more important to be comfortable and go with whichever feels the most natural to you. That will help you increase your skills faster

    • @bjkbaum
      @bjkbaum 2 роки тому +1

      @@GlobalTrailGuide Interesting choice of words ad when I test rode the 29er, that actually felt more natural. Granted was on city streets. But my last MTB was a Klein Pulse Comp from 20 years ago so as it's all new to me, might just go for 29er and get used to it if I would eventually be headed that way anyway! Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated!

      @@bjkbaum if it feels good on the streets it will feel good on the trails! Sounds like 29er is the answer for you. Sounds like new bike day is in your near future - enjoy!

    Do you need any sort of mapping like trailforks as a guide or is everything well labeled

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  5 місяців тому

      Pretty well marked! Just choose the color of the loop that you want to do and follow along! Always safe to have a map on your phone though, just in case - never know when you might need to detour to get back more quickly. MTB project is helpful too.

    What kind of travel would you recommend for riding a place like Kette? I have ridden mostly in the rockies (Utah and Colorado) but will be spending time in Chicagoland again. Wondering if I can run my hardtail (100mm front fork) up at Kettle?

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  3 роки тому +1

      Pretty much any trail in the Midwest can be comfortably handled on a hardtail. I’m riding a hardtail in this video, Trek Roscoe. Depending on your style though, a 100-130mm full squish can serve you very well too. Especially for longer rides I enjoy the comfort of some squish. If you’re looking for fun, lift served trails - check out Little Switz in Slinger WI (hardtail is fine there too)

    I'd love to know how you think John Muir trails compare to Alpine valley trails?? Hope you'll be making that comparison some time soon? In fact, it would be great to hear your thoughts an what you think are the best 5 trails in Se Wisconsin and NE Illinois!!

    • @GlobalTrailGuide
      @GlobalTrailGuide  3 роки тому

      Hi Tim! Alpine has one of the toughest climbs I’ve found in the area, those first couple of miles just keep going up! John Muir is tough to compete with in regards to overall length and variety of terrain. Hoping to make an Alpine video this fall!
      Regarding the top 5… great idea! Though I might change it to a Top 3. The real question… does Madison area count as SE Wisconsin?? Because they’ve got some contenders!
